It depends on your preference. I love tempered glass but I went through a lot of screen protectors o find one that worked out well for the nexus 6 (the curved glass creates a problem)

I personally love the Jelly Comb it's been revised and fits on my device perfect. There's no "halo-effect" if you put it on right the first time but because I had to take mine off I did create one when re-applying it.

In terms of cases I bought a few and found that I like one that covers the whole phone and doesn't leave a cut-out for the motorola Logo.

I'm currently rocking a Rinke Max case and I love the way it shows off the nexus logo while still protecting it.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions. :)

I use the Ram Mount Universal X-Grip with mixed results. If you're looking to do the same, buy the Large version.

  • Expensive, but modular. You can buy arm extensions, motorcycle mounts, and a range of other accessories to fit everything from iPhones to tablets.
  • Camera is free to record the road.
  • The Medium grip (listed above) is an uncomfortably snug fit with Shamu. If you add a case, like my Spigen Slim Armor, you'll be extending the mount fully and forcing the phone into place every time - not recommended.
  • The Large grip fits the phone and case quite well, but is more expensive.
  • Ram mounts allow some slight rotation when locked in place (+- 5 degrees or so), and this is more pronounced with looser fits than with tight ones. However, there's enough friction in the mechanism to keep it from rotating on its own, even on bumpy roads.
  • The suction cup holds its own against the Texas heat, but won't stick to anything besides glass. I've tried it on a smooth, polished hardwood dining table, a dry erase board, and a stainless steel fridge, but my car's windshield is the only spot where it doesn't fall down. Don't even think about attaching to a plastic dashboard, even if it's smooth and flat. For this reason, I've seriously considered 3D printing a longer arm for my old iOttie mount that clings to any surface you throw it against.

There's no wireless charging, either, though I tend to shy away from car chargers due to the potential for current spikes and other idiosyncracies that lower my non-removable battery's lifespan.

    TL;DR
Not the cheapest or best, but it holds the phone in place when attached to a windshield. Buy this if you like modular mounts with a good grip - it's easy to extend the length, switch to a motorcycle, or upgrade to a tablet by swapping a few parts. Look elsewhere for wireless charging, dashboard mounting, or cheap prices.

I am currently using a white Ringke Slim but I don't have that many drops so it's more of a low level drop and prevent scratch /gunk case.

If she is dropping it often then she probably needs some kind of "double layered" case, where its like a rubber case inside a plastic / metal frame.
I like this case as a "fuller coverage" case. But it does add thickness.

And for fun these look nice and have good reviews.

Another case I would recommend the diztronic case. It's currently on preorder. I've had one on my last three phones and though it's a boring matte black, it feels great in hand and is very minimal. It's got a nice grip to it and isn't sticky or slippery. Normally their cases are available with prime so you may want to wait until release to find out if amazon will have them in stock for prime

I've had this phone holder for multiple long distance trips and has not failed even once. Easy to use, easy to setup and adjust. Don't lose grip, doesn't jiggle and doesn't slowly lean.

Amazon.com also sells all North American versions. It's backordered, but they expect stock by February 10. Plus it's cheaper than Motorola and the Play store. All four models are $599.99.

Midnight Blue:

32GB (00632NARTL)

64GB (00636NARTL)

Cloud White:

32GB (00630NARTL)

64GB (00637NARTL)

While all the listings other than the 64GB Midnight Blue model don't specify their storage, you can look up the "Item model number" to confirm it's the correct one.

These are the official listings by Amazon, since they're listed as being shipped and sold by Amazon. I'd expect a price increase soon, at the very least on the 64GB models.

The RAM X-Grip is what I use. Absolutely love it. It's also great that RAM makes their mounts modular, so if you get a different phone in the future that won't work with it, you can use the same suction cup and arm and just buy a different holster piece.

Just watched your first two videos and they're very informative, thank you for that. The Ringke slim does look very good, though I personally like the design of the Spigen link more for that category.

I'm really glad you reviewed the Casebase as I had it bookmarked and was considering it, but after seeing your video regarding the problems with the folio itself getting in the way for taking photos and the flimsiness of the top part I'm not as interested in it. Honestly this was why I liked my G3 so much, the folio case that you could get from LG has that circular cutout in the front for the clock quick widget, but at the same time it made it so when you flipped it over and took a photo the camera lens was in that hole with no obstructions.

u/abd1tus · 2 pointsr/nexus6

I'm pretty happy with the RAVPower. It's only $24.99, about the same size as the Nexus 6, so it looks like it was designed for it, and has no problem charging through my Spien thin fit case.

Motorola support have no idea when they will be ready. They need to undergo more certification for Australia apparently.
Funnily enough the turbo charger is on the play store for Aussies but not available yet.

I'm going to go naked most of the time, but I did pick up a custom sleeve off Etsy to protect it while in my pocket (sometimes I accidentally throw in my keys or tools in my phone pocket): https://www.etsy.com/listing/207297847/google-nexus-6-organic-leather

I also picked up a couple heavy cases for when I'm going to be working outside, these will have to get me by until hopefully Lifeproof comes out with a Frē case.

> So I should just take a wireless charger with me everywhere I go?

And you're not doing that now? Can you just plug your phone into any random wall outlet? NO. You need a USB charger. Just carry around a wireless charger instead of that.

Want a battery? Here you go.

> And how would that work on long car trips?

Qi car charger.

I found this tempered glass protector by "Orzly" on Amazon.de already, I'm thinking about ordering it when I finally get my phone. I don't think it's on Amazon US currently though.

u/angelrenard · 2 pointsr/nexus6

Since you mentioned Amazon, they're actually cheaper ostensibly new rather than refurbished. I ordered one, it came in brand new condition (albeit in a mangled box).

I've had this for over a year in my work truck I use it with a nexus 6p. Thing takes a serious beating and has never failed me yet.

I ordered the Rinke MAX which doesn't look too bad in my opinion. I think it will offer some decent protection. It should be shipping today or tomorrow. Here's a link.

I was really hoping Lifeproof was going to make a case for it but I'm a bit doubtful that's gonna happen.

u/mooburger · 1 pointr/nexus6

I dropped my N6 once too many times last year. It cracked in an non-essential part of the screen the first time, the second time it would just not power on. The screen + digitizer was very easy to replace, the instructions are on iFixit. I didn't even need the "iOpener", I just bought the correct micro torx driver; I had a thin metal putty knife and whittled down the end of a wooden chopstick for flipping the micro connectors.

The main step that the iFixit guide doesn't mention (I learned about it from youtube instead) is: Use a hot pack on the edges and back panel to loosen the glue until you can get the putty knife in there, work it, peel the rear panel (don't worry, it's actually semi-bendable), take out the screws, 2 connectors and you're good to go. I mean you've replaced the battery once before so you should know what to do...

The ebay sale that u/ggfools linked to came with tools, which is a good deal for the $70. Doesn't matter 1100 or 1103 the screen and frame are the same. Remember that when buying the screen it should come with a frame holder (it's a single piece). If it's way cheaper than $70 I would not trust it. I paid $100 for my replacement screen, got a SUPCASE and an OMOTON Tempered Glass Screen protector, which was actually the hardest thing to correctly install (the N6 screen is just so slightly concave so you have to basically drop the protector onto the screen centered to within 0.1mm - I had to put the phone in a jig after the corner didn't stick on the first one I tried.

I had no problems at all with the aftermarket screen (especially because I have the glass protector on it). But I have a feeling you should have just cannibalized the screen from the XT1100 the second time it was the wrong model, if you really really wanted an OEM screen.

u/SoSquidTaste · 2 pointsr/nexus6

I've got an Orzly FlexiSlim in white and it looked good on the MB that I briefly had. It went back and this case will look even better when my proper Unicorn finally arrives.

It's flexible like a TPU case, but is slightly more rigid with a soft-touch feel. It won't be worth a damn in heavy drop situations, but I doubt that many slim cases would be anyhow.

u/Toofah · 1 pointr/nexus6

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OMGXW08/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_6SVyub1Z7KM0J

I ordered this but will only be using it when I'm diving, mountain biking, or other activities that carry risk. Otherwise, going naked.

u/HailFromTheShire · 1 pointr/nexus6

I have the Spigen Air Bumper & a TechMatte Qi Wireless (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F1SHFJA/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This combination works with no issues.

u/ninjawa · 2 pointsr/nexus6

I ordered the Diztronic case and iSmooth screen protectors for now while I wait for some bumper cases and a bunch of tempered glass screen protectors to come out.

I got a notification yesterday that the screen protectors shipped and that I would be receiving them on the 19th (I have Prime but selected the No Rush Shipping option).

u/tofu28 · 3 pointsr/nexus6

I can't really take a picture of it, so I will try to describe it to you. It is a very tight fit on the sides to accommodate the curved screen. It is quite easy to mess up the application. The way I applied it, about a fourth of a millimeter on the width of the screen on the left side is uncovered while that area of the screen protector is to the right of the screen. I was very off the first time so I tried to remove the screen protector and reapply it. It seems to have bent in the process as there is a permanent area which does not touch the screen on the corner which I removed it from. As a whole, the screen protector looks kind of awkward on the face of the phone. As it is significantly smaller than the face, it looks like you used a screen protector from a smaller phone. To be honest, I am not very happy with it, but not rightfully so; some of my criticisms stem from my poor application job.

Edit: There are pictures if you look through the Amazon reviews (not my pictures).
