If you were a virgin on both consoles, I would say 3DS just for simplicity sake; but since you already own a 3DS, I think the wii is a good choice.
Just like Dominic4523 said, make sure it is one of the backwards compatible models if you plan to play gamecube games.
Also, you need to know that you will need a lot of stuff to fully enjoy what the wii has to offer.
You need a wiimote + nunchuck for most wii games. Some will only need the wiimote, but most will need you to have both, for every player too.
If you plan to play gamecube games, you'll need a gamecube controller and a gamecube memory card to save your progress. Those games are not playable with the wiimote.
Last, if you plan to get virtual console games, you'll need a classic controller model 1 or model 2; and also, the wii shop channel will not be selling points starting next Monday March 26th, so you'll have to check the store asap for potential purchases.
If after knowing all that you still want a wii, go for it, but it is definitely way easier to just got a new 3DS.
You should really consider getting some GameCube controllers and games for some good local multiplayer. Most of them are a lot more competitive than the more family-oriented Wii games.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! offers better co-op and competitive play than Mario Kart Wii.
Super Mario Strikers is crazy fun if you are willing to spend some extra time to get a good grasp on its mechanics. (I wouldn't recommend Mario Strikers Charged)
The N64 Mario Party games (Which are available at the Wii Shop Channel) are famous for being the best by many, though I have never played them myself. GameCube controllers can be used to play the game.
Good quality GameCube controllers might set you back quite a few bucks since their supply is declining. The best I could find online is here
There hasa been a confirmed list of the 17 games:
9, Mario Bros.
from the amazon uk listing
For The Legend of Zelda, there's (as others have said) "Hyrule Historia". There's also a book called "Legends of Localization" that details the localization process of the original Legend of Zelda from Japanese to English:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/legends-of-localization-zelda-book
If you're into manga, there's a whole set of Zelda mangas:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/mobile/p/the-legend-of-zelda-box-set-akira-himekawa/1104178239/2683774677098?st=PLA&sid=BNB_DRS_Marketplace+Shopping+greatbookprices_00000000&2sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP24049&k_clickid=3x24049
There's also "Legend Of the Hero" by Kari Fry, which is essentially a field journal of sorts about the Legend of Zelda franchise, with some gorgeous artwork:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/legend-of-the-hero
Kari Fry has also made similar things for Pokemon and Animal Crossing, titled "The Field Guide to Kanto" and "A Guide to Village Life", respectively found here:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/kanto-field-guide
And here:
http://www.fangamer.com/products/a-guide-to-village-life
Another fun title is "Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America", which is about the history of Nintendo of a company (although you could probably find all of the information online, it's definitely a nice book to have on the shelf), and you can grab that one on Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Nintendo-Conquered-America/dp/1591845637
Those are all of the ones I know about, but I'm sure there are more out there!
It’s from the old Nintendo Power Comics that they had back in the day. There’s a Super Mario Adventures comic, too, which is actually great fun and my favorite of all of them.
Game Over is pretty much the definitive work. The early chapters talk about all the before stuff. I don't think you get to Donkey Kong for a while. It goes into a few different ventures that Yamauchi was trying. Including a light gun shooting gallery and love hotels.
Super Mario is pretty good as well. It covers a lot of the same events.
[Play Value(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ge1UzO2AQc) did an episode on it. It's pretty light and lacks the details, but it could whet your interest.
Do your self a favor and buy Super Mario Adventures off of Amazon. Its hilarious

I am in the market for a portable charger for my devices. I want to get one that will safely charge my Switch. I've found a few so far through some research. Which should I get? Help is greatly appreciated!
!st power bank
2nd power bank
3rd power bank
4th power bank
Not sure but this is PDP's Switch "case" (also on BotW version) and, by the looks of it, it's just a semi rigid pouch.
I'm probably getting this one once I can see it in person or a nice review; it looks like it will have some kind of foam (as shoulder buttons would tilt the switch and yet it seems to be in a horizontal position) and I think it's made by the same company as a pretty similar looking NES mini case.
As some people have said, there are a lot of noncompliant chargers and accessories out there that can damage your devices.
Luckily a Google engineer, Benson Leung, took it upon himself to test and analyze a lot of the true compliant USB-C accessories and cables and detail them. Here is list to help out. Plus it has Amazon links
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wJwqv3rTNmORXz-XJsQaXK1dl8I91V4-eP_sfNVNzbA/htmlview
This is the one that I have and love it:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Ultra-Compact-VoltageBoost-Technology/dp/B014ZO46LK/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=nexususb-20&linkId=8bf513253dff03fb723a622dafeaa57d
Yeah, they're nice. I picked up the 20100 because I have new carry-on luggage with USB ports built in. You use a battery pack inside the luggage to power those ports. I know, crazy.
Here's a link to the larger battery without the USB C wall charger: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014ZO46LK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&sr=1-10&m=A294P4X9EWVXLJ&tag=ianker-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B014ZO46LK&keywords=battery+charge&qid=1485119219&kwr_id=179
Anyway, I'm curious to see how much faster charging from the USB C port is on the larger unit. Good luck making your pick!
I mean I'm talking about this. Not the WiiU Fightpad
For the release of Super Smash 4 WiiU they released the adapter, and started reproducing the original GCN controllers, only with a different face plate with the Smash logo inside of saying "Nintendo". The wire is also like 8 feet instead of the 4ft the original had.
I use a Hori clear duraflexi NN3DS case with my Majora's Mask 3DS, and I keep it in Hori's retro Zelda zipper case. The duraflexi slips on and off real easy and cleans really easy, and it shows off the MM paint job really well. I also got a Hori screen protector, and if it gets scratched too much I just replace it; doesn't leave any residue. Hori makes good shit.
Duraflexi:

No, you can't play 3DS games on a PC legally.
I would suggest getting a New Nintendo 3DS XL.
You can play both 3DS and a select few SNES games on it, with those being...
As for Pokemon, you really don't have any "large screen options", but the New 3DS can play...
Now the current generation right now is gen VI, which consists of Pokemon X and Y, and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire.
However, on November 18th, Pokemon Sun and Moon, the first games of Gen VII are coming out for the 3DS.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE.
I just bought the same one (except the original XL one). It has a great feel to it, and you can find ones with great designs on it. It's made of silicone, and is soft and flexible, but it keeps its shape. It doesn't add too much bulk to the device, but it seems protective enough.
10/10 would buy again.
So, I've been getting my daughter(almost 5) in to the NES Classic Edition (Kirby is by far her favorite game). I never thought of reading this book to her. You win at parenting and I am going to copy you!
Edit: To answer your question, what about the Mario Comics?
The reprint was a collection of all the comics simply titled "Super Mario Adventures" after the comic. Here's the Amazon link if you're interested!
Just get the new line Nintendo makes for wiiu smash brothers:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O9GW8VK/ref=pd_aw_sim_63_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=518Z8rDdJEL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&psc=1&refRID=E3MVMS7BVGYGRVR6KBK6
They are 100% identical to the original gamecube controller except they have the smash decal. I just played mario party 6 using one of these last night. 23 bucks is hard to beat as well.
You could use a service called Tenso. It gives you a Japanese address (Their warehouse), so you could order from Japanese websites (Like Amazon Japan), then when they receive it, they'll ship it to you. Haven't used it myself, to be honest, though I've heard good things about it.
There's also AmiAmi and Yesasia which you could use without Tenso. Though, again, I heven't used them myself. Only one I have used is Play Asia, which only has the LL bundled with Smash Bros.
I've been eyeing up this power bank but idk if it will be a good fit. Not really knowledgeable about Watts and power conversion....
I read the book Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America earlier this year. It's not just Mario, either - it goes through the entire history of Nintendo and it's rivals. A pretty good read.
I did see Anker as a more reputable brand. Any specific model you would suggest?
I noticed pretty good reviews for the Anker PowerCore 20100.
I didn’t like it and bought a new left joy-con from Hori. It works great and has a traditional d-pad. Only downside is that the joy-con can only be used in handheld mode (attached to the switch), but this doesn’t effect me since I only play in handheld or docked with a pro controller.
This is the one I have: HORI D-Pad Controller (L) (Zelda) Officially Licensed - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AJRN4CE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_FJe6BbGGBS1Q5
[Nyko] (https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506493417&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252) is releasing a portable dock for the Switch. It isn't as small as I would like, but someone could definitely make a smaller one if they removed some of the USB ports or arranged them so they aren't all on the same side of the adapter.
A dock at $60?! Pfft! Try $90 MSRP!
I agree with you one million percent, though. There is NO way the dock is worth nearly $100 after tax.
I have a pre-order in for the Nyko Portable Docking Kit, which I was luckily able to get for $44.99, before the price went up to $49.99.
Honestly, I still think even $45 is high, but I'm much more willing to pay $45 than $90.
If we were dealing with literally any other company, I'd agree that the JoyCons may go down in price as technology improves, demand decreases and manufacturing costs decrease. Since we are talking about Nintendo, though, I really doubt they'll drop the prices... ever.
Just look at how much a new Wii U Pro controller still costs today ($50+), for a "dead" console. I can get a new DualShock 4 on Amazon for less than that every day, often around $39.99.
I picked this up:
https://www.amazon.com/Gadget-Coating-Nintendo-New-3DS-LL/dp/B013JDH8J0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469498606&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+grip
At first it was incredibly awkward, but now I can't play without it :)
As for games, I got Xenoblade Chronicles X and Star Fox Zero(Double Pack) for $23.99 each at the Best Buy sale and I got Warioware for GBA at a local used game store for $8.
I have this zelda case I got from GameStop. It has a ridiculous amount of slots to hold your games, not to mention the design is really nice so I recommend it :) Here’s the case
You'll need the Wii Remote anyway (the Wii U's Pro controller doesn't work for Wii games either). This is the controller I was talking about that you'd need for the VC games.
Personally, I'd recommend you get all 3 (Wiimote, Nunchuck, and Classic Controller), but if you can't then the one you get will depend on which games you'd rather play.
So I really like the Hori D-pad Zelda design (Here!), but I also really want to have a bluetooth controller.
Do you think it's possible to do a shell exchange using the hori d-pad as the shell i'm taking?
Worth mentioning is that "Playing with Power" is MUCH cheaper on Amazon than on Gamestop
direct amazon link (not a personal reference link like some reddit scumbags do)
https://amzn.com/074401767X
that package is a ripoff... you can buy the parts separately from Anker and its $10 cheaper...and you get a second usb-C cable.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014ZO46LK/ref=psdc_7073960011_t1_B01G6SHOBC
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charge-Type-C-Charger-PowerPort/dp/B01CJ90J6O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485192090&sr=8-3&keywords=usb-c+wall+charger
and if you don't want the extra USB-C cable you can save another $10 by getting the wall adapter w/o the cable.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016LO4UTA/ref=psdc_12557637011_t1_B01CJ90J6O
Careful, those are probably knock-off, and might be bad quality. For the best experience, I'd stick with Nintendo (though used should be fine too, as long as it's first party).

What is the current situation for Switch travel docks? The last I heard, the first commercially available travel dock will be available by Nyko starting October 31st.
Are there any other docks that are now/will be available that are worth checking out?
Just an FYI they have controllers available on amazon right now. No adapters though.

I have the Fire Emblem: Fates N3DSXL, and I think it's beautiful. I had the same concerns as you, so I purchased the Hori TPU case for it. I've been using it since launch, and it's still in perfect condition. I carry it with me everywhere in my laptop bag, it's been on countless flights and business trips, and the TPU case keeps it pristine. The only exposed point while in sleep mode is the hinge, but that's remained in near mint condition. My only complaint with it is the TPU isn't colorless, so it changes my console from white to off-white, but that's a minor complaint. I'd recommend going this route before you buy a second 3ds.
WHILE ITS NOT PERFECT, SINCE THE SWITCH USES USB-C TO CHARGE YOU CAN BUY A BIG ASS USB-C BATTERY PACK AND IT'LL LET YOU PLAY FOR 3-4 TIMES LONGER THIS WILL CHARGE THE SWITCH 4 TIMES OVER
AND SINCE USB C IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY POPULAR, YOU CAN BET THE PRICE ON THESE THINGS WILL KEEP DROPPING.
well... there is one on amazon, but the price is 449...hope they didn't refer to this one...

i recently found a cheap NES Mini and consider getting a guide since i don't have the time to re-learn and find everything again.
i found these 2 guides

any recommendations?
new white ngc controllers can be found (here)[http://www.amazon.com/Official-Nintendo-White-Classic-Gamecube-Controller/dp/B0017KIBAI]
If you do end up ordering online, I suggest getting this Mayflash adapter instead since it works on both Wii U and PC (there's a little switch on the back that sets the mode).
I own both the Nintendo adapter and the Mayflash adapter. Literally the exact same thing (build quality is very similar as well) except the Mayflash adapter is typically cheaper and also works on PC. You can finagle with software to get the Nintendo one to work on PC, but the Mayflash one is recognized as native D-Input.

Why wait?
Hori makes one, but I believe it lacks HD rumble. Or you can buy third-party shell replacements, which is the route I went.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT8SWKC/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
EDIT: it is actually the switch version, it said wiiU in the header, but in the order summary it is indeed the for the switch.
I bring both because I have different games on both and I may have an itch to play a particular game that may not be available on one or the other.
> Short Battery Life (somewhat irrelevant since I'll have a battery charger)
At worst it's about 1 hour shorter than the 3DS battery life, and that's if you're talking 3DS XL. It's about 1 hour longer than regular 3DS.
> Cons to taking both:
>
> Takes up a lot of space
>
> Potential to lose both if bag is stolen
Unfortunately only thing you can do to prevent the latter is to not take both (or any), but you can mitigate it by not advertising what you have. I use a messenger bag style case that's non-descript (no Nintendo or Switch logos on it, just gray/black with a zipper flap), and it's large enough to hold my Switch, 3DS XL, all my game carts for both, chargers for both, an Anker battery pack, the Switch's dock, and a Switch Pro controller. It's not a huge, bulky bag either, just carry it with the strap going across your chest instead of over the same shoulder you're carrying it under. If someone is really determined to steal it they can probably break the clips with enough force and struggle, but it's not going to be an easy snatch 'n grab. That's usually enough deterrent to prevent the attempt in the first place.
It's also small enough to fit into my 17" laptop backpack or my carry-on suitcase with plenty of room to spare for several changes of clothes (or a couple of changes of clothes if I'm also bringing along my DSLR). If I'm going somewhere for longer than a week, I'm planning on washing clothes while I'm gone, I never pack more than a week of clothes, less if I'm staying in one place the whole time. I can either carry it in the backpack/suitcase, or if I'm staying at a hotel and don't want to tote the backpack/suitcase around all the time while I'm out, I can just carry the messenger bag case. That mitigates the former issue.
Edit: Immadumb.
I think that the Amazon rep was confused and just looked up "new 3ds xl" clicked the first one she saw which is this one http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Metallic-Black-Japanese-Version/dp/B00NAW5DT8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421720736&sr=8-1&keywords=new+3ds+xl it says right there that it will be in stock on January 22nd and thats probably where she got that date from.

You can buy the adapter by it's self for 20 bucks.
http://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ1FI/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1408243922&sr=8-9&keywords=Smash+Brothers
Then buy the new game cube controller for 30.
http://www.amazon.com/GameCube-Controller-Super-Edition-Wii-U/dp/B00L3LQ4B4/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1408243922&sr=8-10&keywords=Smash+Brothers
Or you could buy the adapter and find an old game cube controller for much cheap I bet.
Don't know about the coming Bomberman game, but the originals were a ton of fun if playing with others. Not so much solo, but for new game, they did mention some sort of campaign story mode.
Basically in a timed VS game, when you died, you still had a chance to come back, since you'd be put on the sidelines, but still be able to chuck bombs. And if you killed someone that way, you went back onto the board. I noticed the previews of the new game having someone floating on the sidelines, so I'm thinking they're bringing that back.

As an aside, get a grip for your n3dsxl, makes it a lot more comfy if you're cramping. -cough- also get Monster Hunter 4 :D

They're shipped from Japan, so take a long while to ship, but they're worth it. They got a lot cheaper too.

Last week this page was filled with "Will ship as soon as it arrives" bullshit, so a bunch of idiots must have bought those $400 new 3DS's.
This was posted here already.
In any case, this story looks sketchy as all hell. It's on Indie-Gogo and supposedly rolling out in four months, yet they have nothing but a few renders and an obviously-empty 3D printed case to show for it.
It's also wickedly expensive, even at the "early backer" prices. $85 for a 12,000 mAh battery? I mean, you can get a 20,100 mAh battery (over 1.5x the capacity) for less than half the price.
