Which is why I carry this. It can not only jump other people, but it can safely jump my Prius as well. It’s actually very easy to jump start a Prius. The only tools required are a jump starter, or jumper cables and another car.

Yeah my 2012 has this amazingly inconvenient USB plug in the bottom front wall inside the console. You cannot see it, only feel it. When I can get my iPod Nano plugged in to it it does show up on the audio and I can browse and select any playlists or album titles. Podcasts and audio books show up as "albums".

But however, an older model with the cheap stereo option might have a cassette player, and if so, a cassette adapter like this works fine. Actually, it works better because you control the audio with the ipod or iphone screen.

I got my self one of these from amazon. It works great. I've got a Gen2 (2008), so I can attest to the clearance on the Gen3 that the OP has. Still a pretty handy too.

-Even metric sockets/wrenches from 8-14 mm
-#2 Phillips screwdriver
-flat blade screw driver
(All above are used for removal and disassembly of the battery)
-multi-meter (for testing battery voltage and checking to make sure you're not grabbing a hot lead) You can get one super cheap at Walmart. You don't need a $100 meter for most basic multi meter usage

I change my own cabin air filter, then decline that at dealer services and save a bundle.

You can get a filter for less than 4 bucks on Amazon, changing it is easy, requires no tools, takes a minute or two.

You're doing a good job. I'm the only owner of my 2010 prius. Got it with 3 miles. One of the first ones to hit the US soil. Besides oil changes, tire rotations, filter changes, wipers, etc... I haven't done anything special. I did get the trans fluid drained and replaced around 60K and the brake fluid replaced a little after that probably.

If you want to keep your internals clean run a bottle of Techron through your car once every 5K miles or so. https://www.amazon.com/Chevron-65740-Techron-Concentrate-Cleaner/dp/B00092893E/ pour it into your gas tank before filling up and let it do its job. You can find it at Walmart or any auto parts store.

https://www.amazon.com/Red-Line-Complete-System-Cleaner/dp/B000CPI5Z0/ This is better but I can't find it anywhere locally and have to order it.

I don't think it really matters, but people say to use these before oil changes so any gunk that is broken up from using them will be removed when the oil is changed. I don't think that matters though since it gets thrown out of the exhaust anyway.

Good luck!

You could try this:

get control contact cleaner (not eyeglass contact cleaner- this stuff is meant for electronics) like this

(do this stuff with the car off)

remove the volume knob.

spray contact cleaner where the twist part of the volume control meets the rest of the car

spin the volume knob a lot

replace knob

repeat as necessary. Try to keep the contact cleaner out of your cd player. Also, I would wear plastic gloves. edit: maybe even shield the area with a rag- the contact cleaner almost always splashes back, this stuff sprays way harder than it needs to. I've got it in my eye more than once, even with glasses on.

I have used this filter wrench on my 2014 prius:

https://www.amazon.com/Motivx-Tools-Filter-Wrench-Engines/dp/B00Y5JWW1W

with this 27mm socket:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NPPCH8

It has worked pretty well for the 2 oil changes that I have done on my prius. I learned on the first oil change to jack up the front of the car about as high as you can to keep the plastic panel out of the way, and have room for my big socket wrench on the oil filter casing.

So if the labor will be performed by someone else, the only thing I need is the oil to replace the existing oil and the oil filter correct?

if so,

Genuine Toyota - Prius Oil Filter 1/2 Case (QTY 5) - 04152-YZZA6

http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyota-Prius-Filter-04152-YZZA6/dp/B007OW6JEI/ref=pd_sbs_auto_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=06E9BPECFS0QV83TREH9

it says qty 5, how many do you use per oil change?

2010 Prius oil change
~4 quarts so

or is there somewhere cheaper I can get same product?

Mobil 1 only please

Something like this. Just hook it up to your backup lights.

Most people will tell you to just buy a reman pack from one of the aftermarket suppliers or go to Toyota to get a new pack.

But if you know what you are doing, you can probably get a dead battery up and going again for a couple hundred bucks.

The first thing you want to do is remove and disassemble the pack. There are some good videos on YouTube for it. ChrisFix has a good one.

The next step is checking the voltage of every module in the pack. Anything less than 7.2V is most likely trash. Depending on the charge of the battery, they will probably be 7.4-7.6V and they should be relatively close to each other. If there is one that is more than about 0.2V away from the others, I would replace that as well.

Once you know which ones are bad, order some replacements from your supplier of choice.

For balancing, you will probably want a battery cycler like this one. You want something that will discharge and fully charge NiMH batteries. You want to slowly discharge each module to 6V then charge it back up. This will take a long time because you’ll have to do it 28 times.

Depending on how long it takes, you may also want to charge them all again at the end. This should put them close enough in balance that the car would be useable again.

This is not guaranteed to work. But typically there are one or two bad modules in a pack causing the red triangle. The replacement modules are most likely not going to be matched to the rest of the pack. And you may end up in the same spot a few months down the road. But $100-$200 is better than $1200-$1700 if you just need to get by for a while.

I put a Pioneer 4100 NEX in my 2011 Prius II. It can use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Here are the parts I used to install it.

I buy parts on Amazon when I've needed them. I recently bought these and found a guy to do the work for relatively cheap. Dealer wanted $300 just for the parts, I think.

u/tesladriver · 2 pointsr/prius

If you're a do-it-yourselfer, I bought these rotors: http://amzn.com/B001FHXFTA, and these brake pads: http://amzn.com/B002PL582W

Well, in case any other poor schmuck runs into this, I think what I need to do is buy a tool to scan the sensors wirelessly so that I can identify the actual TPMS sensor IDs. I've bought this tool from Amazon. I'm planning on using that to ID the sensors that I jacked up on my car's computer, and then re-program them to the actual sensor ID, which I think should do the trick. I'll post an update if this is successful. I'm then going to return that tool and I think this will save me from having to pay some outlandish sum at the dealership or tire shop.

Have those ramps at home, and had no problem changing the oil on my 2008 Scion xB and my fiance's 2009 Accent.

I'd get the rear wheel chocks just in case too.I actually forgot there were there and tried backing off the ramps, those chocks did exactly what they were supposed to do and held that car right in place
