There's nothing bad about your halogens; they're actually quite good, technically. They just need fresh, high-performance bulbs. Your stock bulbs are long-life H7 bulbs. This is how much improvement you can expect from new halogen bulbs alone. Can we say yes to 60+ feet?

And that was a test of previous-generation, high-performance H7 bulbs. The Philips XtremeVision, the king of the aforementioned test, has been dethroned by the even more savage Philips RacingVision. You can safely expect 70+ feet of additional sight distance with the RacingVisions. And they're super white to boot.

----

And if you want to go retarded with the output, remember that your typical H7 puts out 1450 lumens. There are special bulbs coming out in the next few days which are basically H9 bulbs with a H7 base. H9 bulbs put out 2100+ lumens. The H7 base allow them to fit into your Subie. That's a 45% increase in lumen count. That's only if you want to go full-retarded with the amount of light coming from your Subaru. Me, personally, I'd stick with the easily found Philips RacingVision H7 from Amazon. The special H7/H9 hybrid bulbs are more expensive and not on Amazon.

If you also upgrade your high-beams (9005) to HIR1 bulbs (9011), you'll put putting out 2500 lumens per bulb, per side, instead of a mere 1870. The total lumen count of your Subaru will be 2500+2500+2100+2100 = over 9000 (9200). Again, only if you want to go full-retarded with light.

Here you go. :)

The inlet is bigger than my car has, but the exhaust shop is taking care of it for me. It was buy one that fit perfect for $100 and getting it installed for $45 or or getting this one (that looks and is more what I'm looking for) for $40 and installing for $45 as well. Seemed like the better option. :)

How about some stuff other than bling like a Group N pitch rod: https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/product_info.php?products_id=1477

Or perhaps some nice Sankei 555 ball joints: http://www.42autosports.com/Sankei-555-Front-Ball-Joints--Subaru_p_258.html

A set of fender braces: http://www.paranoidfabrications.com/shop/2008-super-sweet-cowl-stays-aka-fender-braces/

Crazy idea here but an extended timing belt guide: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/product/tom-191263-tomei-timing-belt-guide?ymm=2003-subaru-impreza-wrx-2-0

Some hella sweet DOT4 brake fluid: http://www.amazon.com/ATE-706202-Original-Brake-Fluid/dp/B003VXRPL0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449629716&sr=8-1&keywords=ate+type+200+brake+fluid

Waterless coolant: http://www.amazon.com/Evans-Cooling-Systems-EC53001-Performance/dp/B00TPVI2TQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449629782&sr=8-1&keywords=Waterless+coolant

I can go on. I guess the point I'm making is a person could buy a car girl or guy something for under 60 dollars that could make their vehicle better. Not hating on the coasters or tie or cups, different people like different things. I'd just rather spend my money on gifts to my close car friends that will make their driving experiences and cars better than give them a Subaru pint glass.

Edit: words

When what dried? Did you seal it? If you used a sealer before you buffed and polished the lens that's what could have caused this. What you need to do is restart. Sand the sealer off, and then take it easy with the sanding. And by sanding

I mean wet-sanding. I hope you weren't just using sandpaper and no lubricant lol.
Wet-sand it back down till it's smooth and hazy. Then take some rubbing compound and then buff the hell out of it till it's clear. I went crazy with mine and buffed them for a couple hours each, but i go overboard on everything. After it looks clear, wipe off the excess and let it dry. Then spray your sealant on it. Like spray paint if you get too close it'll drip, too far it won't cover fully.

I actually wet-sand mine with the 3M restoration kit: https://www.amazon.com/3M-39084-Headlight-Restoration-Kit/dp/B006VB8JTQ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1493511799&sr=8-4&keywords=3m+headlight+restoration+kit

And for a sealer i used: https://www.amazon.com/Presta-137306-Headlight-Sealant/dp/B0082LFOFA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493512126&sr=8-1&keywords=renulite.

Expensive sealer I know. But I did research on it and a lot of shops use it. They actually give 3 year 30k mile warranties with it when they would redo headlights for people. So it's a good product. I used it on mine about 4 years ago and it's just starting to come off.

Hope this helps!

WRX and Shepherd owner here, proof if needed and because she is cute...

I don't have the limited package for my WRX, so hair can be quite an issue with her tagging along in the back. But someone mentioned to me a while back on this sub to pick up a pet hair removal stone (yeah, weird concept I know), which along with a vacuum works pretty damn well.

I wouldn't recommend the stone for delicate cloth, but my seats seem fine and it really does a good job of loosening the hairs and picking them up for easier vacuuming.

Also, good looking Shepherd and color combination on the Subie!

u/nova1313 · 1 pointr/subaru

Yeah. You'll need to bend the posts for the rear map light slightly outward.

You can watch videos here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuNYkivrWts

I was planning to buy them from SubiSpeed but they wanted $40+ for a pretty similar set of lights. It's possible that theirs are better quality, but I can't imagine they are $30 better.

I grabbed this one set: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HMJIIQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's part 1 of meaty's 5 part guide. It covers the DOHC, which is the type of engine you have and slightly more complicated that the SOHC.

As for parts, here's the belt kit you'd need. If you have access to basic tools (wrenches, ratchets) you should be ok. You will need a 22 mm deep impact socket and a breaker bar to get the harmonic balancer pulley off, but you may be able to rent these from a place like AutoZone. Also, you'll need some new coolant since you'll have to drain the old to change out the water pump.

Its not too hard. Just time consuming. Be patient and follow all the steps. This diagram shows you how to line the cam wheels up. Its sucks to do it, but once you do, you're good for another 100,000 miles and you'll save hundreds of dollars doing it yourself.

My battery and terminals just looked like that and cleaned it up last weekend.

Take the battery off and use hot water to clean most of the battery up.

Used hot water on my terminals as well.

After that i used a hot water/baking soda mix to neutralize the acid.

Bought a few things off amazon as well:

https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Tool-W147C-Terminal-Cleaning/dp/B004BTV82U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1520547692&sr=8-3&keywords=battery+terminal+cleaner

The dielectric grease should help it from getting moisture and corrosion on it again.

Yay for STI and GSDs.

Car selection aside... get this rock to help with hairs.

If you go new, I would also recommend negotiating in rear bumper cover, trunk mat and all weather mats. The rear bumper cover has at least protected against scratches from my dog getting in and out.

Found this on Amazon in another thread: https://www.amazon.com/Subaru-Fixed-Crossbar-Impreza-E361SFJ000/dp/B008216AVM

I'm in the same boat as you, 2012 Impreza hatch. Last season I just threw skis/snowboards in the back, but I'm looking into making things a bit more comfortable for my passengers this season. Looked on the Thule website, and the crossbars alone are $500+ so this looks pretty good.

u/Riplakish15 · 3 pointsr/subaru

I installed the OEM roof rack for my Impreza. Plus, I finally installed the LED light strip that /u/cuterocky recommended. Bonus: the roof rack came with a nice torx driver.

There is n n1 muffler that sells for like 30 bucks..it sounds pretty low and rumbly if that's what you're looking for..ill find the link in a bit

Good tires. I like the General Altimax RT43. Regular oil changes. Regular tire rotations. Fresh fluids all around. The simple easy shit we all should be doing really.

You could also hit up your local walmart/auto parts store and buy the 3M headlight resto kit. Will get the haze off the lights and leave them shiny new for a bit. Helps a ton when there is no haze on the lenses.

Awesome! I'm thinking about this one as a beginner step. I wanna learn more about led bars and what makes them good. If the cheap light bar fails I dont have a problem with pulling it apart to see what went wrong ant attempting to repair it. Thanks for the input!

u/finitelement · 3 pointsr/subaru

3m stuff is the best and it comes in all sorts of colors and patterns (carbon fiber or wood). Installing it yourself isn't too bad. You can watch a video on youtube for it.

Those bulbs are shit. See. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/blue/good/good.html

You went to 1380 lumens, which is rather low. You could be at 2100 lumen, and see everything.

H11 -> H9 low beam mod = 55% increase in light output
9011 high beam mod = 48% increase in light output

Your best is to do a little mod, which can be done with a nail clipper (you just cut away some metal from the bulb housing. And use H9 bulbs instead. (http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/138-gen-5-2015-present/186450-headlamp-modification-h11-h9-retrofit.html).

These are the best fucking halogen low beams bulbs you can fit into a Subaru (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Standard-Halogen-Replacement-Headlight/dp/B003YMPN3A).

If you want to do the same mod to your highbeams, you can do so by swapping to an HIR 9011 bulb.(http://dastern.torque.net/Mods/HIRmod.html) (https://www.amazon.com/Philips-9011-Standard-Replacement-Headlight/dp/B00480J5CW)

u/BoyBlunder99 · 1 pointr/subaru

Yeah, I see that the big pain in the ass would be getting the skidplate off, but after the first oil change, I'll be installing a Fumoto valve to make draining oil easier (http://www.amazon.com/Fumoto-F-105-Engine-Drain-Valve/dp/B003VCELCW), hopefully making the process a bit smoother.

u/aredcup · 1 pointr/subaru

They're the OEM racks for 08-11 Impreza, 12+ Fits STI and WRX only I believe. I've actually got a set sitting here from my old Impreza if you're interested in buying them. Here they are on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Subaru-Impreza-Roof-Rack-Carrier/dp/B004HGXMYE

u/Slacktron · 1 pointr/subaru

Did you pick up a wiring harness adapter to splice into the Pioneer harness? The colors should just be a straight up match.

Something like this:

u/enderx475 · 1 pointr/subaru

Sure, here you go: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0033DH9SC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I found amazon has the best price. The Gates kit is extremely popular and comes with a timing belt, hydraulic tensioner, 4 idler pulleys, and a water pump with gaskets. With the exception of the Mishimoto bits, the rest of the maintenance items I listed earlier were Subaru OEM.

I just had one of the Mishimoto hoses spring a leak on me actually :(

u/95688it · 1 pointr/subaru

you need the fixed crossbar set from subaru. it's made by thule and exact same parts as the set bought from thule but like 1/3rd the price at about $175-ish

My first oil change I went 5w30 Synth, ont he next change I have some 10w40 synth for the hotter South Florida Summer Temps. will probably go 5w30 in winter.

A Fumoto valve would be a worthwhile investment, imo: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VCELCW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Rotella used to be the go to but they changed their formula. Now I use Motul 8100 paired with a Subaru oem filter and crush washer and have had no issues at all and the car seems to enjoy it.

Edit: spelling, and I get the filter from a dealership as well as the crush washer which I believe is around $7-$8 for the pair

Amazon linky: http://amzn.com/1933390077

this is totally in my cart now.

u/arthropal · 2 pointsr/subaru

https://www.amazon.ca/Metra-70-8901-Wiring-Harness-Subaru/dp/B0002BEQL6

This is the one you want, I think. You can always look at the back of your factory deck to confirm.

When I got my old outback I went out and played in the mud and whenever I went through a big puddle the engine would miss a beat every once and a while for a minute or two. So I went through the entire engine and put dielectric grease in all the electrical plugs and that solved my problem. Maybe something to try

u/BoostedFL4T · 1 pointr/subaru

3M actually makes it, got my roll from amazon

u/Wolfs_Claw · 2 pointsr/subaru

OEM oil filters are so cheap there's no reason not to use them, in my opinion. Amazon sells a six pack of them for $27.

Also, the oil could be burning because it's too thin. I have been using Motul 8100 xcess 5w40, which my tuner Yimisport recommended, in my 2012 STI and I've had basically zero consumption over the last two years.

Finally, a big step toward solving oil consumption is using an air-oil-separator. The stock configuration returns oil to the engine via the intake, which ends up getting in your intercooler and ultimately burning in the combustion cycle. An AOS strips the oil from this air and returns it via a drip back into the engine block. It never needs emptying like an oil catch can either. Crawford and Perrin both make them now. Grimspeed makes a cheaper, smaller design but I've read it doesn't work as effectively.

u/mindless900 · 1 pointr/subaru

Thule's guide doesn't give me a solution, maybe they discontinued the product?

Yakima looks good but damn they are expensive.

OEMs are cheap and will do what I want. Probably go with these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HGXMYE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2LIUC6TMTLQAD

I can just lash the skis to the roof with bungies or tie-downs.

u/QueenAlpaca · 1 pointr/subaru

Used this to give my Bob some TLC. There was only really minor yellowing, but I'm shocked what a difference it makes. Now he looks a little more hip.
