This. I am a big flashoholic and am in /r/flashlight alot. People need to realize that a light with a very tight hotspot in the center is going to appear much brighter if shined into your eyes or on a white wall because most of the light coming out of the light is concentrated into a tight area. I have a couple lights that put out over 3000 lumens, but they are very floody and have no hotspot. They are bright, but some of my lower lumen throwy (tight hotspot) lights still look brighter on the wall. People should do what I did if they are worried about the light affecting their eyes. I got a couple of these see though scope covers. They make them in different sizes and will fit over your light. I took the plastic lens out and sanded it down turning it into a diffuser. Now indoors, it lights up a huge area and it's not going to hurt your eyes. If I'm outside and need to see further, I just flip the cap down and now the light can reach out further.
