I added one of these to my light on my rifle, but I didn't leave it clear. I took out the lens and sanded it down and turned it into a diffuser. So indoors or up close at the range, it diffuses the light and lights up a big area. If I need to reach out further with my light, I just flip the cap open. Plus it helps protect the lens if I'm shooting during the day.
