And this is precisely why I ride with two cameras, one forward facing on my helmet and one under my seat rearwards facing.
It won't prevent this from occurring, but they will give you some justice afterwards.
That sort of accident is basically my nightmare. :(

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Handlebar camera. Every ride.
You really, really should. Out of all the things I've purchased for my bike, the helmet cam is, IMO, the best decision I've made. It's been my witness when no one else was around more than once (once in a crash, once when an officer tried to run me off the road and then cited me for driving in the bike lane). It's saved me far more money than it's cost.
Plus, it's fun to have on group rides and the like. :P
I use the Contour ROAM 2. Friend of mine just got the ROAM 3. He loves it.
There are secondhand ones that should be alright. But other than that, I would highly recommend Contour. The latest model, Roam3, is just $199 on Amazon.

Not trying to be rude, but contour is $128, new on amazon. Helmet is $70, new on evike (on sale for $45 right now). Putting retail @ $198 new.

+1 on the dash cam. I use two Contour ROAM3 cameras. 1080P and wireless; when the battery on one dies I swap it out on the go. They have helped me out a few times when I've been in accidents that were not my fault.
I also just had a Street Guardian installed in my daughter's car.

I know a lot of people will recommend a Go Pro but personally I got the Contour Roam 3. I think it's a lot more convenient to use for a personal body cam than the Go Pro just because of it's shape. Being water resistant also helps. It's been a really good camera so far, it's not a dash cam but you can get attachments for all sorts of uses, even a shoulder mount. I have used it to record a trip by attaching it to my car dash mount and then used either a shoulder or headband attachment while I was walking around.

Is this Amazon posting legit? Reviews of product and seller look good, but it's way cheaper than the list price on Contour's website.

I have the roam3 by Contour. I like the profile over the boxy look of the GoPro's. I've had mine for about a year and have been very impressed with it.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a recommendation as I'm still shopping for one myself...
Can't speak on your choices but I have a contour 3 and really like it for cost and form factor. $200 and its already waterproof and comes with the mounts you need. Image quality is not as good at the gopro but you are not warren miller, not many people are going to watch your vids.
One thing to consider is if you really want to do anything with the footage, you will need good video editing software and a PC powerful enough to run it.
Edit: apparently you can get them for $89 now. Thats a great deal
