I just bought it a few months ago from nashbar for $400 shipped. I like it but I also realized going in I would have to buy a new fork at some point and rear suspension. I'm still riding everything stock but I will be upgrading as the current fork is like a pogostick haha. Unfortunately on most biking forums and subs everyone prices out cheaper bikes because the components aren't as good stock as bikes that are much higher priced, but since I bought a new bike for $400 I now have much more room to get the bike exactly how I want it. Sometimes you just have to do your own thing and realize what your priorities are.
I have the same exact bike, I love it, also new to MTB, first thing I did was swap out that annoying rear suspension. Found this on a DB forum, such a blessing to have the ability to lock out the rear suspension on the fly:
