If you have the means, I'd say get a good air rig and a cheap chinese made airbrush from Amazon to see if it's for you.

I'm currently doing the opposite; because of what someone else said on another thread, I'm building a 1/72 BF-109E4 using nothing but brushes to see just how difficult it is to get it right when you don't have more advanced tools.

The only concession I made to that build was that I sprayed it with a coat of primer on all parts. (I assume that pretty much anyone can get ahold of some Krylon or spray primer, and I know the paint I'm using has severe adhesion issues, so if I didn't even low tack masking tape would lift paint), and plan to use a coat of flat when I'm done.

This is the one I use: http://www.amazon.com/0-3mm-Gravity-Dual-Action-Airbrush-Paint/dp/B005H3FMBW/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1394566734&sr=8-7&keywords=master+airbrush

It's perfectly serviceable, and cheap. I can tell you that swapping to "spray primer/flat coat" only has largely shown that you can get good results (assuming it's not German mottled camo), but it takes a lot longer, requires multiple carefully controlled coats, and paint quality matters a lot more. Certain paints are just much harder to brush than others.

If you do get that cheap airbrush, you MUST keep it clean, and strip the head each and every time you use it if you don't want constant jamming issues. Even then, it will probably be more of a pain to use than the average. I would also recommend (regardless of what you get ) gravity feed over siphon feed, because they require lower operating pressures, which allows more control.

What's the difference between a cheapo one on amazon and a good one? I got one of those expensive ass michaels ones but never got it to cooperate. Meanwhile, I'm loving the cheapo one I got on amazon, and can hardly find anything I cant do with it.
