> 1 How many of you checked the head space before you fired your gun? I've seen a few message boards where people claim you will die if you don't and other say not to worry about it. If you did check it did you buy head space gauges or take it to a gunsmith?

I checked mine using this So far no issues. If you are still worried take it to your local gunsmith.

> 2 I have a 1891/30 made in the Tula armory in 1934 and then Arsenal refinished. From what I can tell there is little to no cosmoline in it. Do I still have to go through the process of breaking it down scrubbing the hell out of everything?

I would if it were mine - that craps gets everywhere in every nook and cranny

> 3 How many of you use surplus ammo? Is there any reason that I should stay away from using it? I understand it is corrosive and will have to thoroughly clean the gun immediately after using it.

Ammo is fine I have had 2 misfires out of approx. 400 rounds. Most gun rages around here (SoCal) don't seem to like the steel core ammo so I usually shoot out in the desert, which suits me fine.

As for cleaning after firing corrosive ammo. I used this guys guide No issues as yet.

Have fun with your commie rifle, odds are you'll love shooting the damn thing.

Edit: I still suck at formatting

Heres one on Amazon I'm
surprised to see those on Amazon. You might be able to find for a few bucks cheaper.

So borrow them. Pay $10 for a gunsmith to check for you.

If you are going to check the headspace, do it right. The gun can still work with bad headspace, you can't reliably check it by firing rounds through it.

$25

With headspace gauges, like these, or you can ask a gunsmith to do it for you, but it may cost more than the gauges themselves.

Brownell's is a good primer on how to use them.
