Relax. I grew up in a house with no safes, no trigger locks and plenty of guns. We just had them in gun racks in our closet.
Personally, I prefer to have them put away because it keeps the dust off them. This case is $25 and looks like it ships free from Amazon. It also probably accepts a lock.

It won't stop a thief, but you can slide it under your bed and hopefully a would-be criminal won't find it. And if they do, it is the fault of the criminal, not yours. Plus, as someone else said, it's a long-gun, so it's more likely to be sold for drugs than used in a crime.
TL;DR get a cheap gun case to transport and store gun or how you are doing it now is fine.

It's perfect for a 10/22 budget. I would advise against only if you plan on using it for air transport as you would probably want to use all 4 padlock slots to make sure it stays closed. Overall, I'd say its 90% as good as my $100 case.

Well you can just go buy a simple gun sock for $10 or you can go to any sporting goods store and buy a plastic case for about $20-25. We are gonna need more information about what you are looking for to make a good suggestion. I gave you a link for the case that I have. Its simply and works.

The red oxx soft-cases are above your budget, but they will last you forever. They custom made an extra-oversize one for my palma rifle, best case I have ever owned. Fits all of my precision rifles with bipods, scopes, extended buttstocks, etc.
You could get a cheap case for it I suppose, not really sure how well desiccant would work though. Moisture isn't a problem I have to deal with, so I'm not sure how well it works in that kind of an environment.
