I used one of those electrical socket pass through kits and they definitely work. I went from having 0.8mb/s download on wifi to 5.2mb/s using them on a 18MB connection.

The one i used.

Nope. Setup is pretty simple, just plug them in and they will either work or not. You don't even have to pair them, but you should for best security of course. So just connect and do speed and latency test.

I'd recommend this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01G5Q9E0O/ref=twister_B01K4BV594?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Has pass-through so you can use the sockets for something else still, or get the kit without pass-through if you don't need it - 10 pounds cheaper. I'd recommend powerline over wireless, and most house wiring will support a decent connection. Though of course ymmv.

Absolutely!

I live in a 100+ year old house and had issues with wireless. These sorted me right out before I ran CAT6e to every room and then installed a MESH network.

They dont "boost" the signal, they just send it down the wiring in the house. If the wiring is old, it might not work or work properly but its definitely worth a try! However, it also sounds like your wireless card could be faulty. You could buy a new card and try that but power line adapters (if the wiring in the house is fine) would probably be better as you won't get any wireless interference

Something similar to this. Mine has 2 ports.

Yes, buy a set of two and put one next to your router, and one near your PC - these kind of things are worth a look, as the passthrough design means that you don't 'lose' two sockets as a result of using the adapters.

For best results, the adapters should be plugged directly into a wall socket (rather than an extension cable) and any device / appliance you plug into the passthrough should be relatively low-power, for example a set of speakers or a phone charger, as opposed to your main PC.

thank you for the response!

I had suspected that was the case

My friend recently told me about an ethernet into mains thing (which I had no idea was even possible). Do you think this would get around the interference problem?
