edit: You will not be playing games with a full screen on a standard TV. Part of the picture will be cut off. You really need a HD TV to enjoy this generation's games.

Here are the steps I would have taken:

Edit: u/Egleu pointed out that an RF modulator is still required. Sorry but I'm a stoner.

Plug everything in and it should work. Btw, you want to use the Yellow RCA from the HDMI to RCA adapter.

Tip: Screw the RF adapter onto the RF input on your TV first. Then all you have to do is twist the BNC part of the cable on instead of trying to twist that tiny little nut with your fingers while the cable is attached.

There are so many problems with this setup.

First, you won't be able to send HD signal over those coax lines. You need something like this modulator to send a signal over coax. Most of these things only have composite(red, white, yellow) or s-video inputs.

If your bluray player and satellite box have s-video or composite out, I would recommend just buying a used receiver that can handle these formats and forgetting about hdmi.

If hdmi is your only option for the sources you could get a cheap receiver to handle the inputs. But... You would need to convert the HDMI output to SD using before modulating it to the coax cable. I would seriously recommend running the receiver in Mono audio mode if you have speakers all over the place. And you would still only end up with 7 speaker connections. If you decide to wire more than one speaker to a terminal make sure you do it in SERIES not in parallel.

The final chain would look something like:

HDMI Source --> HDMI Receiver --> HDMI to Composite (or s-video) Converter --> RF Modulator --> Coax splitter (i forgot to mention this) ---> crappy tvs

And after all that effort you will still have a ghetto system with terrible sound and video. Might be time to look into overhauling the system.

I have used this box and it works for most things - but the end result is not very good compared to native output.

Well damn, then I would recommend ViewHD instead. This is not the same model I had, but I'm sure this may work for you, but I can't 100% guarantee anything though I'm confident.

HDMI out of your laptop into that converter, Composite out of the converter into your VCR’s composite input (yellow RCA plug), record as you please.

The drawback is that it could potentially introduce input lag (though HDTVs have input lag too.) Also keep in mind that the Switch will likely display in 16:9 widescreen only, so your video will probably have black bars on the top/bottom of the screen on a 4:3 TV.

A few notes. You're also going to need an HDMI cable and an analog video cable. S-video will give you higher video resolution than composite, but neither will be great by today's standards. If you need audio, make sure to connect that too since HDMI typically include audio, but with analog video it is broken out into the red and white composite connections (which should work even if you're using s-video for the actual video signal).
