Is shine on a reference to wish you were here? This photo looks a lot like the album cover

That's a killer solo.

Steely Dan has had some AMAZING drummers work with them, my favorite is Dennis Chamber on their Alive In America live album.

Buy a used copy of the CD for like $2. There are 6 different versions of the song, not surprised that the streaming services don't have every version.

I like to take this surf music compilation when I'm beaching: http://www.amazon.com/Cowabunga-The-Surf-Various-Artists/dp/B0000033S4 Pretty much any tunes from that set would be a good fit for sun & surf - if you're into reverbrant surf music.

The guy on fire is a reference to the Wish You Were Here album cover by Pink Floyd

I don't think we can consider this solved if we can't produce an example of Steely Dan being "booed off stage". That sounds incredibly unlikely to me.

I have "Steely Dan: Alive In America" and it is blisteringly good. The idea of them being booed at all, let alone booed off stage, is crazy.

Gaucho came out after Aja, right? Yeah I remember Babylon Sisters and Time out of Mind. My Rival doesn't sound familiar, but it has a nice groove.

I'm on amazon right now looking for the remasters. What is the live album you're talking about? Is this it?

u/TheAlienDog · 1 pointr/70s

See that's the thing -- I kind of love all of it, even the so-called "crap" stuff from the decade. I love the rock stuff and the disco stuff and the soul stuff. All of it. (well, mostly)

For lesser-known soul stuff, I like the What It Is! box set. And there's some amazing stuff in the 70s-era part of the Quincy Jones box set. But as far as straight-up groups, Earth Wind & Fire and Sly & the Family Stone are where it's at for me.

Rock stuff, I have a soft spot in my heart for Big Star, but I'll take the more popular stuff, as well, like Bowie and Zeppelin and former Beatles' solo stuff, or even the so-called "lighter" Doobies or Steely Dan. And goddam if Loggins & Messina's "Sittin' In" isn't just the most blissful. And holy crap, of course there's Harry Nilsson and his entire catalogue.

But the thing I love most about the 70s is discovering all these bands that are relatively under the radar these days, or groups that artists were in before they got big. Relatively recent discoveries for me include the band Lake and Klaatu and Brian Protheroe.

But I'm honestly equally happy putting on the 1970s station and listening to Brandy or Amie or Angie Baby or pretty much whatever.

EDIT: cleaned up some links

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You by Led Zeppelin is my current favourite song, and I hope you like it as well! The lyrics to this song are in the video's description, by the way.

If you'd like to hear more Led Zeppelin, here are some of my favourites.

Do you have the 3 volume CD set that was a remastered re-release, or do you have the original Queen - Greatest Hits?

I'm not sure how much shipping will be for this, but here's one of my favorite Zeppelin albums for under $10. :) http://www.amazon.com/Physical-Graffiti-Led-Zeppelin/dp/B000002JSN/

Thanks for this contest! :)

I didn't even realize how many dual types normals there are, since the normal types I think of as normal types are almost always pure, like Zangoose, Chansey, Dunsparce, Teddiursa, Spinda, Miccino, etc. but now that you mention it, pretty much all of the birds are normal/flying, things like Snubbull and Clefairy are pure Fairy now, and Jigglypuff got retyped as Normal/Fairy. there are still a lot of pure Normal types, but it's a pretty even split between dual type normals and pure. I think I have enough things in my boxes of shinies to make a full team of normal types. I'll definitely be experimenting with that.

I'm personally not too fond of any Sony controllers before Dualshock 4. I never used the giant Xbox controllers, and I only have experience with the redone one, which is a massive improvement. the 360 controller is up there as one of the best game controllers that exist. I would also place the Gamecube controller on the top of this list. but as you said, you don't actively dislike the Gamecube controller as much as it is that you didn't give it much of a chance. all of my Wii homebrew emulation takes place using my Wavebirds, which are easily some of the best and highly sought after Gamecube controllers, since they're literally wireless first party ones. I like the N64 controller, but I wouldn't put it near the top of a best controllers list. for some, it was very awkward, and I understand why it can be. I do like that the left handle was basically designed for puzzle games, and I always find myself using the left handle instead of the middle one when playing Pokemon Puzzle League for that reason. the controller was designed around Mario 64, but they didn't want to completely drop the D-pad, so I guess what we ended up with still works perfectly for what it does. it's not something I would try to map to any game, but it is something that works perfectly with the N64's software library. a lot of thought was put into that, and even if it isn't perfect, it still works great and doesn't deserve as much hate as it gets for the design.

I looked, and Discord apparently has a Linux version in the works. I tried the Windows version in WINE, but the installer crashes immediately. once there's native support outside of the web app, I'll definitely be giving that a try. I don't think I'll have any trouble with it; I'm usually pretty good at figuring this kind of stuff out. based on what everyone has been saying about it, I think I'll like it, but I'll be patiently waiting for my official native desktop support.

I'll be skipping down to the discussion about Steam and its DRM here, since I went over the character limit with all the computer stuff. seeing that I work with tech all the time and this is something I'm pretty passionate about, there certainly was a lot to say there. I'll be cutting that off the end of this comment and sending that separately as another reply, since that part by itself is still really close to the character limit.

I definitely give Steam credit for its massive discounts, and chances are if I buy anything outside of Valve's own games on Steam, it will be during the giant sales. I did already know about gog.com, and I would be using that and humblebundle.com if I were to purchase any digital PC games, since both offer DRM-free versions. I don't need a desktop client if I have full control over the game. I'll just install it and make a shortcut to it on my desktop. I get that you don't really care, and Steam's DRM isn't nearly as bad as some others. I'm looking at you, Games for Windows Live. however, I feel that just because something isn't as bad as the alternative, that still doesn't mean I enjoy the restrictions. it's still tied to an account, and if I lose that account, I can't play any of the games I've purchased. Steam's customer service is a nightmare, and they've admitted it. if I ever get locked out of my account, or get it falsely reported, I would lose everything. I'm not planning to buy anything on Steam if I can get it elsewhere. as far as physical PC games, I agree with the general impracticality of it at this point. the market simply doesn't exist for it anymore. there are very few physical PC releases that I see nowadays.

I definitely agree with your affinity toward special editions. I love my Metroid Prime Trilogy steelbook, and I love steelbooks in general. I want to import the European steelbook for Pokemon Omega Ruby, and if the US got those instead of the extra potions, I would have been all over it. the US got a steelbook for Sun and Moon if you buy both games, but as of right now, I only want Sun, so I'd probably import the European one for that as well. now that I have homebrew and region-free stuff on my 3DS, and I have the spare one that I'll refuse updates on just to keep this homebrew, I might actually look into importing those, and if I end up seeing one for a fair price with the game, I'll be able to actually use that game. I want to eventually get this steelbook for Smash 4 also, and there are a few other special editions on my radar, such as the copy of Fire Emblem Fates with all 3 games in one physical release, rather than the two physical releases and one digital one to finish that story. I've gotten a few things that are special editions that aren't video games, such as my Blu-Ray Box set for The Endless River. as someone who regards Pink Floyd as my favorite band, I was very hyped for this, and this was the first Pink Floyd album released in my lifetime, so I wanted to go all out with it, especially since this is supposed to be the last thing released under the Pink Floyd name. I like David Gilmour's and Roger Waters' solo albums as well, and I was also considering the special edition for Rattle that Lock, but I spent my money elsewhere instead during its release. there are quite a few special editions that are worth the money, but there are others that simply aren't worth the difference. like the Hoenn remakes packaged with a code for extra potions. everybody was disappointed by that, when Japan and Europe got steelbooks and figurines as their special editions. recently Europe has been getting a lot of stuff that the US hasn't been. it's a little disappointing, but the opposite was happening for years before, so I guess this is still fair.

Hemispheres is one of my favorites, I have nice memories of the time that I was listening to that album a lot!

I want to suggest that you get the Different Stages 3-CD live set. It's a well-rounded look at the bulk of their catalog. I prefer many of the tracks on this set to the studio versions; they've very dynamic and the songs have had some improvements made to their arrangements since the original recordings.

Look, it's like $7. You won't be sorry.

"Cowabunga! The Surf Box Set" and "Surf Age Nuggets" have some really great songs on them. With Nuggets getting pretty gritty and garagey. Some of the bands are terrible, like you can tell they picked up instruments a few months ago as they go through a guitar scale... but some of the songs are really special. The thing is that there aren't too many super complete albums from the same bands since there are so many flashes in the pan, but see what you think.

Cowabunga: The Surf Box. Click on the 'see all tracks' for some ideas. This is a good set if you're throwing a surf themed party.

Seems to check out. The most popular Queen greatest hits album doesn't have those songs in that order, "Another One Bites the Dust" is track 2 on that album and "We are the Champions" is track 17.

But there is another one where Champions is 2 and Another one Bites the Dust is 3
