Thanks! Hilux 167 snorkel, yes it is plumbed in and the air box is sealed. Great value, but a PIA to install.

You are correct. $139 on Amazon. I have a hunch this same kit probably goes by different brand names around eBay and Amazon, like these things tend to do.

The quality is good. I was impressed by the packaging, instructions, and powder coating. I work in the coatings industry. I didn't expect the finish to be good at all and I was prepared to re-paint it on arrival. I was happy I didn't need to.

The main tube is 3". It has a 3.5" elbow at the end where the sensor mounts and the cone filter attaches. I don't know how this compares to other intakes where actual dyno research was done (like Mishimoto), so I don't have a clue if 3" is actually bad or not. My guess is that the intake doesn't need to be bigger than the compressor inlet diameter and being too big might even decrease velocity, but I'm not an engineer. LOL I didn't choose this for scientific reasons. I chose it because it was affordable and I'm glad I did.

I had a crack in the factory intake at the mounting bracket that holds the 90 degree section where the plumbing goes into the filter box. I didn't dislike the factory intake, it actually looked like it was adequate But that cracked piece was enough motivation to make me shop for an intake. The more I disassembled, the more problems I found. Cracked rubber pieces, mostly.

The pieces fit well. It included a simple filter shield box with heat protective paneling. The cone filter looks like the cheapest part in the kit, and I intend to replace it right away. It just doesn't seem like it was manufactured well. Everything else included in the kit seemed well made.

And I was very happy with the sound when I was done. Other than this, the engine and exhaust are stock. With this intake it's really not louder, but I can actually hear my turbo and bypass valve for the first time. I use my car for work and I need to make phone calls on the highway. With this intake, it's basically as quiet in the car as it was before. You only hear a little whoosh when you get into boost.

Performance-wise, I wasn't expecting to notice a difference, and I don't. But at least I didn't notice a decrease in performance. And I am happy to report that my mpg has neither suffered nor improved in the two days I've had it installed.

All in all, I recommend it! I'll make an imgur album tomorrow.

Here is the one I got, and I chose it because it is a 3 1/2” head on it. I just think the skinnier ones look a little cheap and this one is nice and beefy.

I did install it myself, it only took about an hour of actual work, and about an hour of just figuring it out since it does not come with instructions. If you have a sawzaw or skill saw you will be set. I had a lot of trouble getting the nuts on the back end (closest to the cabin) so I just did the front 4 and the connector for the neck of the snorkel. It seems super stable even though I omitted 3nuts on it. I feel like you might have better luck mapping it out and cutting the holes on the body panel then taking the panel off to finish the install so you can get all the nuts on securely.

My rig is a heap of rust so I don’t really worry about the specifics a whole lot. I’m changing everything over to a cleaner parts rig next year anywho, and I’ll probably pull the body panel then to make it perfect.

So I’m not sure if you’re considering a cold air intake or a short ram but I would recommend the HPS 27-122BL short ram intake . Personally I thought that it was very easy to install on my 05 TSX and it has held up great so far. It really gives the car a great sound when accelerating and improves the driving experience overall. I would highly recommend it.

The template isnt perfect because its for a hilux but you can make it work. Here is a T4R install guide.

You can do a taco snorkel too but you have to swap from a powered antenna and add a intake piece from the taco behind the fender. Here is that install guide.

Cold Air Intake. Boosts both horsepower and mileage - one of those things that's kind of a no-brainer for pretty much any car. Super easy to install, too. I had one on my tC as well.

I have a 2016 base model SR5 and first i installed the TRD Cold Air Intake and with just the intake i felt like i could feel the difference in power, you can definitely hear the difference from the stock intake to the TRD CIA.

Its supposed to give you better MPG but because of the sound it makes when you really step on it you wanna floor it all the time so my MPG went down lol.

Then i got the Borla Catback exhaust and honestly its only a little bit louder then stock but you can hear the difference and it did add a little more power i feel. I researched on some different forums before i got it and it seems like a good amount of people preferred the Borla over other brands.

Supposedly if you do those two mods together it can add anywhere from 5-20 Horsepower. For both mods it set me back about 1000 dollars. Heres the links to wear i got them.

We bought the K&N for ours and love love love it! We definitely saw an uptick in responsiveness and mpg (almost 2mpg). It adds a little bit of aggressive sound to accelerating as well.

Here is the cold air intake I purchased about two years ago. Same model and trim as yours too. I love the sound it makes, and it does not add much cabin drone at steady mid RPMs. But it does sound pretty amazing with the windows open and a full pull.

HPS short ram intake. Last owner install actually. 07-13 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 Turbo HPS Red Shortram Air Intake Kit Short Ram Cool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J7WDC16/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6-2xCb3C0RZ5W

This one I think. Exhaust is a borla catback.

u/Chronocide315 · 1 pointr/camaro

I did my CAI before my exhaust. It had a very noticeable impact on the sound above 2500 rpms. Much deeper and more aggressive. I have an insulated box. I believe this is it on amazon. Hi. I have a few things I'm trying to get rid of. If you're interested, I'd prefer to keep our communication to reddit. I haven't posted here before so forgive me if I'm slow. I haven't posted any of these items on CL or anywhere else (yet). Cash only please. I'm going to try to be straight up with you, so if you're interested in anything here, please be straight up with me. I'm open to negotiation, but I hope I am putting up reasonable prices. So don't lowball me like crazy.

u/games0124 · 1 pointr/cars

I have this intake. However I talked with this tuner recently and he said a drop in filter with the stock box could be better. Because the metal tubing of the short ram intake would increase temp's even though you are getting more air. The plastic with the stock system wouldn't transfer as much heat. Anyone know what's better?

This is just my suggestion/recommendation, the very next thing I would do to it other than any repair/restoration you might have to do being that you just got it would be a Cold Air intake, I just got this one from amazon and it makes a world of difference and you absolutely can’t beat the price.
Spectre cold air intake

How many miles does she have?

Is there any kind of noticeable ticking sound at idle/low rpms? If there is I got slightly bad news, your gona have to get some lifters replaced some time in the future. OR you could do a DOD delete and get rid of the problem forever plus get her ready for some real upgrades to the engine.

These are absolutely amazing cars and can go well beyond 200k miles if taken care of. I’m at 150k+ miles and she still drives like a brand new car. I have had my car for a little over a year now and I still have the dumbest grin on my face everytime im behind the wheel.
