I'm not 100% sure! I've been thinking of using it there as well as under my tits (Double D's cause some serious underboob sweat), but I'm a bit nervous just because they're sensitive areas. I'm going to try under my tits starting tomorrow and will report back.

On another note, I've been using this DermaHarmony Zinc soap and it has helped the surface of my skin appear less oily all over and has helped the texture of my skin, especially in crevasses like under my tits, butt crack, etc.

I tried to go off minocycline a million times. But my face would erupt. But I noticed the EXACT same thing you did and, tada!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VQMU3S/ref=pd_luc_rh_bia_03_03_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I get my hands went, I rub them over this bar, I pat my face w/my water/salt hands, I count to 60, I wash off. Acne begone!

The only thing I need to sheet mask to make sure I don't dehydrate my skin.

Hey there, I've got all kinds of eccentric natural beauty/health products that I can suggest:

I don't use body soap at all -- I just scrub in the shower with an asian washcloth.

I do use soap on my hands, as they're exposed to all sorts of yucky stuff and then I touch food and other people. For soap, I use Dr. Bronner's. I also use it as body wash if I get something unusually gross on my body (engine oil, for example).

For deodorant, I use one of those crystals. I like this one just cause it's shaped like regular deodorant.

I make my own lotion with shea butter and jojoba oil from Amazon. I weigh out 70g of shea butter and 30g of jojoba oil in a bowl and melt them in the microwave. Then I mix them up and put the bowl in the fridge for a few minutes to cool. I use an electric mixer to mix the lotion and then put it back in the fridge for another few minutes. Eventually, the lotion cools to the point where I can whip it (kind of like whipping cream). I also add some essential oils once it's cooled but still fairly liquid (coconut and lemon is my current jam) so that takes care of perfume :)

For toothpaste, I actually use tooth powder. (It's also good for the whole TSA nonsense.) There are a bunch of brands, Ecodent, for example.

I'm including some product links, just so you can see what I'm talking about. I haven't purchased that particular brand of shea butter, but it looks nice :) You might try going down to your local health food/hippie store and see what kind of products they have in their beauty section. My local store has stuff like soap, shampoo, and conditioner in bulk, so you can buy just a bit and try it out to see if it works for you :)

Read this pretty long post about DE shaving. The "HERE" link inside that post has good information as well.

Some comments about the products you have chosen:

> So I've been looking into buying a DE starter kit and looked at all the suggestions and I've sorted out this much so far.
Razor: DE86bl
Blades: Sampler
Pre-Shave Soap: Glycerine
Alum: Alum
Styptic: Clubman Pinaud

The Edwin Jagger is a very good razor.

The sampler comes only with 2 blades per brand, which could be enough but in my opinion 5 blades per brand would be better. Blade samplers in amazon are somewhat expensive.

Clearly natural is a pre-shave soap which is not necessary, but some people do find them helpful. You use it to wash your face before you lather your shaving cream/soap. You are missing the shaving cream/soap from your list.

Alum again not necessary, but some users like it.

Styptic pencil, do you bleed a lot? I ask because I hardly ever bleed, my blood coagulates really fast. So I have never seen a use for a styptic pencil.

> So for brushes it sounds like boar or badger, which I believe is preferred, hair is the way to go, but then the recommendation for the $75 level is bamboo and at the $100 one of the 2 recommended is synthetic.

The Ecotools bamboo brush is a women's makeup brush. Using it for shaving seems rather extreme. However I'm not sure how its making process differs from a shaving brush, do they use different glue or what. But I have seen threads posted where people say that the brush has died on them. If you are on a very tight budget and want a very soft brush that you can also find locally, then I think the Ecotools is a good option. That being said you can get Omega boar brush for about $10 from various online stores.

> I was looking through some of the threads and somewhere I found someone recommend this set which seemed nice, has a badger brush a little cup for lathering and a thing to hang the brush on to dry and comes with little starter shaving soap (although I have no idea if the soap is any good). So thoughts on that set and any inputs on brushes would be appreciated.

I don't think that recommendation had many upvotes. The brush is a pure badger brush and it's also prone to excessive shedding. The soap is nothing special. A brush stand isn't necessary. After you are done shaving thoroughly rinse the brush with running water from the tap, shake out the excess water, and use a towel to dry the tips of the brush, leave the brush standing on its base in a open space to air dry. The apothecary mug is not necessary either. It's mainly intended to hold the soap puck. However most shaving soaps will come in their own containers. The mug can also be quite small so when you are loading your brush you end up banging your fingers against the sides. I wouldn't recommend this set.

> And then lastly, how important are aftershaves? Are they just to smell nice or does it help you skin take a breather after threateningly rubbing sharp stuff all over it? My main mental picture of aftershave never having used it before is the scene from Home Alone, so feel free to educate me.

There are many different kinds of aftershave products; alum block, afershave splash, aftershave balm, moisturizing cream, moisturizing oil like jojoba oil, unrefined shea butter, and witch hazel. You pretty much have to try which works for you, but I'd start with a cheap aftershave balm like the Nivea sensitive aftershave balm (if you get satisfactory results with it you don't have to explore the other options unless you want to).

In the Home Alone he used aftershave splash. I'm not really a fan of these, the alcohol can be too drying for your skin and they are often more heavily scented which can irritate your skin. Some users do love them though, but I'd say they are for normal to oily skin. I like to use the other type of products, such as the aftershave balm, it soothes/heals and moisturizes your skin.

Yes. I've had psoriasis since I was 17, I'm 25 now and it's been spreading that entire time. It's a bummer but I've learned not to let it get me down as much as I used to.

Unfortunately, /u/blackmarketbeagle is correct - because psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder, anything you do from the outside is only addressing flakiness and plaques. There are shots you can get from the dermatologist (enbrel, etc) that work wonders for some people but I've never tried them personally.

That being said, my current routine is working really well to keep the flakiness and plaques at bay on my face! I'm actually really impressed with the difference. I believe it is the Hada Lobo Gokyujyun Lotion, Benton Snail Bee Toner, Snail bee essence, and Steam Cream are making the biggest difference. I use the first three twice a day (in that order) and the steam cream only at night. My face has no more flakiness from the plaques and the redness is greatly reduced.

Other things that have helped are sunlight. Direct sun exposure works wonders. Also, salt water. It sounds super weird but swimming in the ocean cleared things up for a while too. I use this salt bar to cleanse in the shower. Also, coconut oil. :)

  • Get a shampoo that is SLS and Silicone free. Most of the times, the breakouts are due to them running down the skin while washing hair. Same with conditioner if you use one. Google will give you some brands that have them.

  • Wash your body after you shampoo with a Sulfur and Salicylic Acid Soap.

  • Moisturize with Cerave SA Lotion For Bumpy Skin. It has Salicylic Acid and that will be your leave in treatment for acne.

  • If the above doesn’t work, you can add a stronger active like Benzoyl Peroxide once a week.

    Good luck!

Edit: I just saw u/Scumteam14 adding a few notes about what you tried that may make my answer irrelevant, so please follow with what they said, They know their stuff. I will leave the recommendations if someone else has a similar case and is not sensitive to the actives I mentioned.
u/whyamisosoftinthemid · 3 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

I find that using glycerin soap reduces soap scum buildup. Also, you probably are carrying a lot of dirt in on the soles of your feet. Scrubbing with comet has probably created lots of little scratches that now hold the dirt :-(

u/Scaramouche_16 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

There's liquid African Black soap! I don't know how much the ingredients differ from yours, but they have this particular brand at Whole Foods if you happen to be near one.

u/majortomsajunkie · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

I use a fair amount of scented products (i.e., soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, hair product) and try to make sure they all "go together", so I use all spicy/herbal/earthy scents. I usually use Aveda for hair, not because I think it's the best product necessarily, but because I love the smell. Also, this soap is cheap, but smells incredible:
http://www.amazon.com/Bee-Flower-Chinese-Sandalwood-2-65oz/dp/B000K74USQ#. Sandalwood is more of a unisex scent, but I'm sure the rose or jasmine would be good too if you wanted a more feminine scent.

u/Ffbethrowaway6 · 3 pointsr/SebDerm

Looks like a lot of scaling/dry skin built up.

While you have the ketoconazole shampoo on your head, scrub with something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Shampoo-Scalp-Massage-Brush-Brushes/dp/B00SNF1O90/

If there's a cheaper pack grab it, but get one that just like that. The ones with the big squishy cones in place of bristles won't scrub well enough.

Keep using the medicated shampoos. Scrub at least every other day until the scale is gone, just don't scrub too hard, you don't want to break your skin. It might be worth using the 2% shampoo more often until your scalp calms down (assuming it isn't to harsh for you, everyone reacts differently of course).

I wouldn't use conditioner since virtually all of them have bad ingredients, and are likely too occluding. Maybe someone else has a good recommendation.

You could also try pre-washing with a sulfur-based soap. I've recently started using one for the dry flaky skin on my face and under my beard, and so far the results have been great. It really helps break up the flaking skin/scaling, and does a very good job of removing the oils. It might be too drying for you, but it might be worth trying. I got this one, though I'm sure other brands are just as good:

https://www.amazon.com/DermaHarmony-Sulfur-Salicylic-Acid-Soap/dp/B01MCR5XB0

u/proraso · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

Has anyone tried this?

I like the sandalwood scent and want to keep it, but my proraso red doesn't lather well for me.

hi.. ty for the advice. I look up towel and order, I have question to ask: Recommendation for moisturizing soap..

I have link below, is possible you help me choose good brand? I see a lot but I narrow down to few:

Miracle II Soap(22 oz.)

u/electroskank · 2 pointsr/Psoriasis

Of course! I didn't realize there were multiple kinds. :)

Revitaderm I use :
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I7XJ9GI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_F7ncAbF5J343N

And here's the soap:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QU12NIA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_U8ncAb4A82B25

I would shop around for better prices. I just grabbed the first result on Amazon. I buy them at CVS. I think Amazon had it for like two dollars cheaper than I've found it in store.

u/forestouroboros · 2 pointsr/SebDerm

I use a zinc soap bar. They are a bit expensive, but gentle on my hair and work very well. I can't use shampoo, but I needed a way to treat my scalp. I do a rotation of this and baking soda/bentonite clay. I'd say I use the zinc soap maybe once a week on my scalp.

You might wanna skip out on the Musgo at first. You don't really need it, and while it can help soften your beard and moisturize your face it is kinda a luxury. If you really want a pre-shave soap you can pick up a $2 bar of glycerine soap at CVS or Walmart that will work just as well. Something like THIS would work fine.

The Omega brush & Proraso are fine to start out with, but if you want to save a bit more money you could start out with a Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set. This will get you a decent soap, brush & bowl for $10 or less (Walmart sells these for $8). The VDH puck is also very easy to lather which makes starting out a bit easier. Once you use it up you can start ordering - samplers or switch to Proraso if you want.

The blade sampler pack & Merkur 180 looks good. Personally I have never gotten a good shave out of my Edwin Jagger DE89 which has the same head as the DE86, however the EJ DE8x series are pretty highly recommended here on WE. My Merkur razor on the other hand (1904) gives me very gentle shaves. I would actually recommend the Merkur Classic instead of the 180, just because you probably don't need a longer handle, and it is easier to pay attention to maintaining the proper shave angle with a shorter razor. But the choice is yours. :)

Alum can be useful, but personally I find Witch Hazel to be more soothing which is important when you are starting out. If you go with a Witch Hazel look for one with the lowest alcohol content you can find. I use a cheap dollar store brand (Swan) that is 86% Witch Hazel to 14% alcohol and it works really nice. Thayers Witch Hazel is well regarded but a bit more pricey.

As far as aftershave.. again this is personal preference. If you have an aftershave that you are currently using that you like I would recommend you keep that for a while. Personally I like Nivea for Men Post Shave Balm, as it is very soothing and lightly moisturizes my face (I use is all over my face).

In any case, good luck with DE shaving and keep in mind it is a skill that takes a little while to learn. Don't be discouraged if your first shave doesn't live up to the hype. :)

u/ruger9shooter · 2 pointsr/shaving

What is your routine and gear? I would suggest by mapping the grain of your beard first. If you are using a safety razor make sure you aren't using any pressure. Do a with the grain pass followed by a relather and across the grain.

For a preshave I would suggest a shower and wash your face with a pure glycerin soap like Clearly Natural(can be found a whole foods and sometimes walmart).

Post shave depends on your budget.

Chatillion Lux makes fantastic toners (no alcohol), aftershave (contain alcohol), and post shave salves (more like a cream). What I would recommend from them depends on your skin type.

The cheapest way to go is store brand witch hazel. You can pick it up at almost any box store or pharmacy for $1-$3. It does tend to have an unpleasant smell that disipates quickly. It also contains alcohol. Thayer's alcohol free unscented is a lot more pleasing but comes with a higher price tag.

The mid level option is Nivea Post shave balm. It can also be picked up at any box store or pharmacy. It's very nice for the price.

It used to take my skin a solid week to recover from a bad pimple, but for the past year I've had a pretty good system in place that means I literally have not had a pulsating, visible, red spot on my face for more than 24 hours. For example, for the past two weeks there has been this thing under my cheek. Invisible to the eye, but when I touched the spot I could feel under the skin a horror growing (there was a hard lumpy thing and it hurt to press down). I applied tea tree oil at night. I used my salt bar religiously, once in the evening, once at night (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VQMU3S/). This salt bar was single handedly how I went from minocycline to no minocycline without my skin freaking. But I started using pocket derm and it made my skin a bit dry so I slathered on aquaphor two days ago...and the next day (yesterday) what had been an under-the-skin horror finally erupted to the surface. It was red. It was swollen. It was horrible. I don't know if it was pocketderm or aquaphor that finally brought it to head (at least 90% of these never even erupt with my tea tree oil + salt routine), but there it was.

I followed my general regime of salt and tea tree oil and must've reapplied this (http://www.burtsbees.com/Herbal-Blemish-Stick/88799-00,default,pd.html) 20 times throughout the day at work. By night it was slightly seeping pus. I took two q-tips and VERY gently popped it, making sure I was making zero indention or 'forcing' anything. I then did my salt and tea tree oil thing again and applied emu oil all over my face (http://www.amazon.com/Emu-Oil-Pure-Premium-Golden/dp/B001MWV40U).

For 24 hours a had a throbbing red horror on my face that both hurt and was very very visible (even my supportive boyfriend could not deny this pimple). And today I have a slight raise on my skin that is slightly darker than the surrounding skin and it doesn't hurt at all. I've also applied jojoba oil today.

Also before using salt or the tea tree oil I wash with either cetaphil gentle or cetaphil normal cleanser.

Anyway, that's my routine for handling pimples and beating them back quickly and it's worked great for me. Even my bf was surprised how quickly I was back to normal looking.

Hi!

I am the same, always bring a flask of whiskey. I also always bring a pipe and tobacco, cob pipes are pretty light.

Anyways, here are my suggestions:

  • Your backpack is very heavy. You might be able to find one on the gear exchange or something so you could potentially do that before the trip. You could also get the Osprey Levity which would save you about 2 lbs. The 3F UL Backpack is also a quality, very inexpensive, UL Backpack that would save you some weight.
  • Lose the sleeping layers. You can use your hiking layers to sleep in as long as you keep them dry.
  • Lose the camp shoes.
  • You can get a flask like this and save a few oz.
  • Camelbaks or hydration bladders in general are really inefficient for carrying water as far as weight goes. Consider just bringing another smart water bottle is you feel like you need more storage.
  • You will need a wind screen for the BRS
  • Your tent is on the heavy side. If you aren't ready to splurge on something else, The 3F UL 1 person tent is a great, fairly light, tent for a great price. Also, I have never found a footprint to be needed. You can also get similar tents on amazon if you are on a time crunch but I can't attest to their quality.
  • First aid kit and hygiene kit is very heavy. For the first aid kit you could probably bring less of each thing to get it down to a little over an ounce. You probably don't need deodorant. For hygiene I only bring a toothbrush and little 15ml eye dropper of Dr. Bronner's soap, I brush and wash with it. Maybe consider the weight difference between bringing glasses and the contact solution? I don't wear either so i'm not sure.
  • If you bring the Dr. Bronner's you don't need hand sanitizer.
  • Looks like you have a heavy knife. There are much lighter options. I really like my Opinel No.6, weighs 0.9oz
  • You could save weight by bringing a Picaridin spray pen.
  • I don't know about you but I have found that I can get 5 days on one full charge from my phone if put in airplane mode and only used for photos and minor navigation. If you were confident and didn't absolutely need your phone you could go without the power bank.

All together these adjustments would save you around 10.4lbs. Hope this helps!

Good luck and have a great trip!

  • Rockwell 6s with Stainless Steel Stand - Go big or go home right? Shaved on 1 setting and as said, no discomfort. Shaving sides and top of the head was easy enough but barely cut anything at all in the back simply because I haven't developed the muscle memory to hold the razor at a proper angle. Hopefully it develops fast enough so I can give disposable razors a kick for good.
  • Maggard 24mm Synthetic Brush - Really soft brush.
  • 75 Blade Sample Pack
  • Cracked/Broken Alum Block - Both blocks I got were perfectly fine except one had something yellow on one side so I chopped it off. Come in their own case.
  • Barrister and Mann Latha Shaving Soap - I've only had 3 shaves so far and my first soap so can't compare to others and comment on how good of a lather it creates but it does smell really nice. Also developing lathering skills.
  • Fento Deluxe Razor and Brush Stand - Heavy base so it's not going to tip over or anything.
  • NIVEA Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm - Probably is the number one post-shave solution in this subreddit and now that I've used, can agree.
  • NIVEA Smooth Daily Moisture Body Lotion - Does equally as well as the Aveeno lotion I had been using but dries faster and has a nice scent.
  • 24 Scented Glycerin Soap Bars - So far using the oatmeal scent and it smells better than the lathering soap and lotions. Bathroom smells really good for quite a while after a shower.

That's everything really. Thought I'd link what I bought and why or what I think of it now that I have it.

I know this is a bit of a late reply, but I've had great luck with two soaps.

1)Grandpa's Pine Tar Wonder Soap! (3 pack) Scent is strong while showering, but mellow after. A nice hint of campfire in the woods! (Some hilarious amazon reviews for this one too).

2)Defense Soap (2 pack) Lighter crisper scent. Tea Tree / Eucalyptus.

Both of these soaps have done wonders for my dry skin. I use them as all over soaps usually. No more dandruff/beardruff issues for me.

Same here. I've noticed that the key is consistency. When I skip a day everything goes to hell. Even with my routine my skin isn't as good as it was before pregnancy, but I find it helps a lot. As with anything, make sure all of this is okay with your doctor. I find that opinions vary across the internet and even across doctors. This is my current routine:

Morning:

  • Splash face with water,
  • Paula's Choice BHA (this is salicylic acid, which my doctor says is fine during pregnancy but some disagree)
  • Moisturize with Cerave PM moisturizer and The Ordinary rosehip seed oil (mixed)

    Before bed:

  • Remove makeup with Farmacy Green Clean balm
  • Wash face with Cerave moisturizing face wash
  • Moisturize with Cerave PM moisturizer and The Ordinary rosehip seed oil (mixed)

    Every few days:

  • Use sulfur face mask (leave on for about 20-30 minutes). I use the Proactiv mask.
  • Sometimes I will also use a Zinc pyrithione on my forehead because I tend to get fungal breakouts there. You can find the soap on amazon or just use head and shoulders shampoo.

    For the body:

  • Make sure to exfoliate! I find a good physical exfoliation, especially on my back, works best. I've seen the best results with this brush and some good old bar soap.
  • Edit to add: Don't re-use bras if you can help it. Get a few cheap, comfy sleeping bras that don't cover much and let your skin breathe at night. Wash after 1-2 uses.

I've heard Joe rogan say good things about this soap brand. I guess a lot of jiu jitsu people swear by it.

Actually, it's a well-known fact that coconut oil soap is moisturizing - see https://www.amazon.com/Moisturizing-Pure-Coconut-Irritated-Itchy/dp/B01I0L0492?th=1 and countless other links if you search. It's partly because of the fatty acids it contains. I find it to be true personally, too. Trust me, this recipe is different, it's moisturizing and you can cut it after 12 hours. I've made 100's of these batches.
