Mora makes a hatchet. Haven't ever used one but maybe it's for you.

The Cold Steel is by far the cheapest, and a heck of a value for the $20 you should pay for it. I make polymer training blades and it isn't worth my time to make something to try to compete with it.

I did a couple of mods on some by removing the spike, it made it more of a standard hawk.

> The Feller KLAX is the answer for anyone who wants the utility of carrying an ax on their adventure but doesn’t want to actually carry one because of the weight and bulk.

> The KLAX is a reinvented tomahawk, with a host of added utility features. A hand held device with 7 different tools that can be used without a handle.

> But when a hammer or axe is needed it can be used as a hand tool to make its own handle from a branch found in the field.

> Stainless Steel Axe Blade / Patented Clamping System / Includes a Ballistic Nylon Sheath
Handle is either made from a branch in the field or purchased separately (not included with KLAX Axe Heads)

Well I have two knives. One an opinel 8 that I EDC. Then a Condor Nessmuk. A Silky Gomboy Saw and a Hults Bruk Torneo Axe. And an actual multi tool Leatherman Signal. That's my full load out on tools.

Most of the United Cutlery M48 products are 2CR13. One of the tomahawks is AUS6.

The United Cutlery UC2836 M48 Ranger Hawk Axe with Compass is made of 7cr17.

I love my Hults Bruk Torneo Compact Felling Axe! I put a helko handle guard on it. Beautiful lifetime tool. 99$ on amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011ZY1PDU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mYDBCb4WF62QW

This is what was recommended to us by my league. It's decent.

I would probably get the Mora combo that is a Companion and Axe for like $50-60 then spend the remaining $140 on a ZT flipper or Spyderco.

u/Any0nymouse · 2 pointsr/Bushcraft

Take a look at Marbles on Amazon, ~$42 for a Hunter's axe and with a little work getting it up to sharpness and making a leather sheath and some neck wrapping and it's a fine axe to work with...

Edit>> Found it out on Smokey Mountain Knife works for $23...

I wasn't aware of the Kershaw Filter before you mentioning it had me Google it. Looks very Chronicles of Riddick. Personally not super into it, but a knife is better than no knife.

You might find having one of these pry bar tools would be better off being used for the random gum scraping and box opening and whatnot. Doesn't have to be that one, there's variations with a lot of overlap depending on which one of those you find.

I don't know if you're still considering a fixed blade or not, but I really like my CRKT M.U.K. which I just learned was discontinued. I bought mine for like $12 on Amazon several years ago. It's meant to be used around water and used on seafood prep with MUK standing for Marine Utility Knife. That link lists a black handled MUK for $35 on Ebay. Not quite the bargain it was, but still cheaper than a lot of knives! You can also use it as self defense, though I wouldn't recommend that. Your Filter or some equally affordable knife would probably be best since that knife may be taken away from you, damaged, lost, etc. Hell, you might just need to use it and then throw it in a river lol.

To be used axe? For wood?

I have the SOG Tomahawk here but maybe you'd prefer the SOG Camp?

I just discovered the schrade scaxe10 hatchet. It’s full tang, looks pretty “tactical” I’d say, and it’s under $20 on amazon.

Prandi are relatively inexpensive and I enjoy the one I got.

u/Darth_Helcaraxe · 1 pointr/AxeThrowing

For the general axe I just go with the Axe Gang or the Cold Steel Comp Thrower. For big axe, HB AGDOR Montreal pattern works best (in my opinion).

Also look into getting a whetstone or a sharpening puck too to keep those edges razor sharp.

Once you get a season or two under your belt then start looking at better axes. They probably will need to be profiled as the blade profile will be thicker and prone to bounce out.

I recently started bringing a hatchet with me on my backpacking and camping trips. I was super hesitant for a long time, all I kept telling myself was it isn't the ultra-light thing to do. But I'm grateful that I changed my mind. They are super useful around camp. I use it as hammer, trowel, and as a firewood splitter. The link below is what I use, its a bit pricey but well worth it. I recommend it because its longer than most hatchets, 20" (2.75 lbs). I agree with the other user who stated that a hatchet's short length can be a bit risky. This longer handle helps me out quite a bit.

I had never seen it either - they have an amazon listing for it with reviews back to 2014 so it's not new, just un-noticed I guess.

Doesn't have the best reviews. They make decent knives, I may have to give one a shot...Really weird I've never heard of it. No youtube video reviews, nothing...

Yeah, fair enough. I have the ESEE-5 and even it is really a bit too big for most of my camping needs. If I am going to carry something as heavy as the RTAK II (~2 lbs), I'd rather just have a camp hachet and a smaller more practical knife.

u/SvengeAnOsloDentist · 1 pointr/dndnext

There’s this one, or you could go all the way with this one

u/aphrodite-walking · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yeah! I got him this one and so far it's been pretty good. My only complaint is that the paracord comes unwrapped too easily but that's pretty minor.

u/thebrandedman · 1 pointr/Bushcraft

Well, if you want a heavy hawk...

Try this

I've owned one of these for 2 years now. One solid chunk of metal, heavy as sin, but it will never break, sharpening is cake, and you'll quit before it does.

u/Lolwutdafuq · -1 pointsr/WTF

No, just spike that fuckers tires with your tire iron or knife or tomahawk and leave a note that reads "It takes one to know one. -An Asshole"
