Not OP but I just got this rear view mirror dash cam with the rear camera for about $60 plus $20 for a memory card and it seems to work pretty well with great reviews that are actual real reviews according to fakespot.com

There's some more expensive fullscreen rear view mirror options but I'm cheap so the former is what I went with.

u/RutD0g · 4 pointsr/uberdrivers

To the op, that sucks. I'm sorry. It's wrong.

But now I hope you and everyone reading this will protect yourself by recording a video of everything that happens in your car!

GET A FUCKING DASHCAM

You don't even have to decide which one.
> The model I believe this driver used (and that I and a bunch of other old-timers in this sub use) has been sold as the Falcon Zero F360, Wicked HD WCD-5801, Black Box M1000, and now the Pyle PLCMDVR52.

> A year ago they were $150, now I see them going for as low as $75 (Pyle). EDIT: that was summer 2016. Prices have gone up again, perhaps because more people a buying them. But there are still some available for $100 as of July 2017.

> Some include an SD card and some do not, so take that into consideration for price comparison. Specs says it only takes up to 32gb cards, but I put in a 64gb card and formatted it in the camera (apparently that's important) and it worked fine. YMMV.

I bought this dash cam last year on a lightning deal. It probably isn't any sort of "top of the line" but it's easy to use and install and I have a lot of fun with it! I literally installed it myself in 15 minutes. Though I did have to drill a tiny hole in my trunk for the rear camera. 😬

Idk. Looking for a dashcam sounds overwhelming to me. There are so many features and blahhhgh... This is just a simple cheap one if you're interested. Good luck! 💗

If you don't mind, I recommend to you a rearview mirror dash cam with dual lens https://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Dash-Cam-Backup-Camera/dp/B07CBVR8R8 . Although this mirror dash cam has no comments at the moment, I guess it is a new seller. I bought this dash cam in April and experienced the summer heat, it is still stable until now. And it has included SD card

That’s why I have something similar to this in my car. There’s a good chance a cop doing something similar to this won’t notice it’s a camera when the vehicle is in park.

I'll be getting one of these for my car soon. Extra nice because it records audio and the forward-facing dashcam can be turned around to face the interior of the car relatively inconspicuously.

No live streaming, unfortunately, though... But hopefully the cops would be too dumb to think of ransacking the rearview mirror while looking for evidence to destroy.

I,d do wired for more reliability. Ive installed a bunch for friends, they usually buy the cheapest one and they all work fine. This is the ine i use with my tesla as a backup dashcam, works great only $40.

Yea i can't imagine a phone backup camera being handy at all. IMO the biggest benefit of having a backup camera is having it immediately and automatically switch on whenever backing up. I would probably vote for the rearview mirror options. The cheap $30-50 ones are pretty clunky, but i've seen nicer $100-150 options that are actually pretty slick and have a bunch of other features, including being able to be used as a dash cam (front and rear). This is the one that made me think of it:https://www.amazon.com/Vantrue-N3-Rearview-Waterproof-Reverse/dp/B074M2R81W. Saw it in a Youtube video once.

I havent owned it but features like an auto record when it detects motion when parked, and the ability to record hit and runs by recording when the car is hit, and hand gesture operation look interesting.

For $100 on Amazon, which is a half days pay, you can purchase an android smart mirror that fits overtop your current mirror. With some minor work, you run one of the cameras included under your rear license plate. Now when this happens the next time, the camera will detect vibration in the car and record the front and rear cameras. When you return to your car, you simply remove the SD card, take it to the police, and have the person arrested for hit and run...

I have one similar this and it has worked great.

Amazon has a bunch that use a mirror camera/screen like this one.

u/ElonMesk · 1 pointr/dashcams

You're talking about one of these right? There are a ton of cheap knockoff ones on Amazon but truthfully Vantrue is the only reputable brand I'd go with from those.

  1. they will stay in the truck, the trucks come back to office at the end of each shift so 8-10 hours
  2. Yeah that should be fine
  3. I do NOT need hd recording, so i figured I could turn down the resolution as much as possible.

also looking about 10-15 cams, we tried Jumbl dash cam
    https://www.amazon.com/Jumbl-Existing-Interior-Exterior-Recording/dp/B015S218O6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483110167&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=jumbl+dash+cam&psc=1
Which worked and I was able to turn down the res so i got close to 30 hours, but they just dont last and they were cheap and junky but hey it was our first trial, and they did save us from a damage claim
u/BronyTheBarbarian · 1 pointr/uberdrivers

Ordered the Jumble which is basically the same, except the newest version places a camera on each side of the mirror instead of the same side. (I bought the 4.3" version for $99, but it appears to have increased in price now)

Unfortunately after powering it up I noticed one of the cameras heated up and the video would begin flashing for that camera and was therefore unusable. I'll be sending it back for a replacement and will try again.

Pyle Rearview Mirror Dual Car Dash Camera Recorder For Security Night Vision HD 1080P (PLCMDVR52) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GNL6R7Y/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_18zZxbN8TZV4B

Picked this one up about 2 weeks ago. It's been working great. But like others have said, night vision on the interior is a lost cause, but at least the audio is covered down. If you're on the fence about what to get, I'd lean this way. About $50 cheaper than the falcon.

I have the same truck and I haven't figured out a way to do it yet. I was looking into a rear view mirror with the screen built in and an aftermarket camera but never did it. My dads truck has the screen in the mirror and its better than nothing.

Apexcam ($40 USD)

  • Not discreet, has silver ring, and looks like a camera.

  • Has a suction cup, adhesive mount preferred.

  • 170 degree super wide-angle lens - Experience with the Yi dash cam tells me that 165 degrees or greater will cause fish eye, motion blur, inability to read plates that are not both stationary and directly in front of you.
