Ah, that's a good point there's a weasel word in there people are overlooking.

However:

You can overdose on dextromethorphan one of the active ingredients in Dayquil which was specifically mentioned by name by the OP.

Take three of these packs, open them into a blender, add some nice fruit, ice and yogurt and enjoy ODing on this gross ass 50$ smoothie.

Edit: I have been informed you might need to use 6 or more packs to OD on that particular chemical and you might OD long before on some of the other ingredients so don't try and use this recreationally, it'd be bad.

Np! Soak it in hot water to soften it and apply this. Let it dry and put a bandaid on it. Apply in the morning and at night. Every day you can take a knife and carve away the dead skin so the acid gets to the roots easier. Mine was gone in a few days.

Every 3 times you use hand sanitizer, you need to wash your hands with soap and water. Hand sanitizer is not a substitute for hand washing.

Get clorox wipes or the lysol hydrogen proxide. Wipe all of the handles every day (door knobs, sink handles (if you have them in your room), paper towel dispenser, etc. Wipe down the desks everyday. Every week wipe down the tops/back of the chairs where the kids grab them. Before break, take all of your manipulatives that can handle it (legos, blocks, poker chips, etc) put them in a 10% bleach solution and let them soak for a bit and then rinse. Spray everything else with lysol. Wipe down your mouse and the kids mouse everyday. Same with the keyboard. Spray your class with Lysol every day.

If you have to touch a kids nose or a tissue, use gloves. When you are done with gloves, wash your hands with soap and water. Take off the gloves the right way.

During cold and flu season, drink a ton of water. Make sure that you are getting enough fruits and vegetables in your diet. Get a flu shot yearly. I know a lot of people are against immunizations, but trust me they are worth it, even if it doesn't cover all the strains.

If you get sick, I totally suggest Alka-seltzer Cold Medication. It is amazing. Tastes bad, but its worth it. I also will slam Sudafed 12 hour (the good stuff from the pharmacist), Mucinex (the good stuff from the pharmacist), and Delysum (grape flavor only).

I work mod/severe special ed where my kids are disgusting when they are sick, don't understand general hand washing, and can't blow their nose without help. We refer to any cold as the plague and we attack it as such.

I had my hemithyroidectomy done a week ago and had never been under general anesthesia before so was also concerned. Pre-op, they gave me a gown, robe, skid-proof socks to wear, put in my IV. I was able to put my curly hair up in a top knot with a silk scrunchie (no metal) so it didn't tangle (listen its the small stuff!). I was walked to the OR (it's not like on TV!), give a hair net to put on, greeted all the surgical staff and then laid myself down on the table (again - SO WEIRD!). The anesthesiologist gave me an IV "cocktail" which felt like I had one too many drinks and then I was out. I came to when I was wheeled into recovery and complained about being woken from a REALLY good sleep ;)

The surgery itself was not nearly as bad as I thought it to be (and you read a lot of the negative experiences here). My voice is fine, my parathyroids are fine and I feel so much better than I did before. As someone else stated, the sore throat is 100% the worst bit of all of it. I didn't have to stay overnight but I only had my right side removed but I wasn't sure if I would go home so things I recommend:

- Have some good numbing cough lozenges (I had Cepacol: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWS60RG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or throat spray (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L4XC3I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and keep chewing ice, it'll help.

- Do not be afraid to ask for the good drugs from the nurse - it'll help to sleep a lot of the time.

- Wear comfy clothes. I was able to dress myself and lift my arms up to put things on (but they were super easy stretchy & loose clothes) but my sister had to help tie my laces as bending down wasn't as easy.

- Get some PJs that button down: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0772S54GH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Comfy slippers/skid-proof socks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M24S9OF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Comfy pillow to prop yourself up for the first few days - its easier to sleep sitting up higher as there's less pressure on your neck. I could sleep lying flat and on my side after 4-5 days.

- An ice pack that can stay strapped around your neck. I wrapped mine in a pillowcase first then used a velcro hair band to keep it in place. I got this from Amazon (so it can be used cold or hot): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CHLS3B3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- Silicone scar sheets for post-op (I can use them in about 4-5 weeks post-op): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P5G9PQD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- If you're a woman, I got these front close bras so I wouldn't have to lift my arms: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KKVLP2D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- A good thick lip balm. I like this one from Laniege but honestly anything you like will do: https://www.amazon.com/LANEIGE-Sleeping-Berry-Treatment-Qunce/dp/B00VR0Z0I4/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=laneige&qid=1571934520&sr=8-1

- I took my Vicodin, Stool Softener (yeeeep it can cause constipation) with 1 Aleve (it's not acetaminophen) for the 1st 5 days at night only to ease my sleep but I didn't need pain meds after that.

Outside of sleeping a lot (recovering from surgery will do that), I was back to eating well chewed solids on the 3rd day post-surgery but that will all be on personal preference. You won't be able to shower for at least 48 hours so make sure to do that morning of if you can.

Most of all - good luck! You will be OK and the relief from having it out will be well worth it. I haven't had my bloodwork done yet to determine whether or not I will need medication (I know you will since its a TT) but that'll be the tricky part from what I've read. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions!

  1. You have missed an awfule lot of snapchatting and the shameless complimenting of /u/skinslip1's beard.

  2. I did notice. I also noted the lack of snaps.

  3. I miss /u/Aerys1...feel like we haven't talked in forever

  4. Fourth thing

  5. You need this and this and these and finally this to help you feel better :D

You get electrical contraptions for steam inhalation in medical shops.

www.amazon.in/Healthgenie-Steam-Sauna-Vaporizer-Superior/dp/B00SYF6KOI/

Sinarest would provide relief. However, you should do gargling (salt, dispirin) and also steaming.

Sinarest already contains something similar to cetrizine - so don't take both cetrizine and sinarest.

>The placebo effect is pretty powerful.

Agree. It's almost weird how powerful it can be.

>If they start to feel better because the cold is naturally ending, many people will attribute that to a pill that they took that actually did nothing. If it's just the placebo effect, they'll still attribute it to the pill.

Agree.

>...you can probably find the homeopathic remedy Oscillococcinum next to the Tylenol PM and other actual cures.

I see this stuff everywhere.

Interesting how much money is being made in this segment. I've often wondered if a lot of it is also driven by lack of health care and/or little interests in dealing with doctors and traditional medicines.

By the way, check out the reviews on Boiron Oscillococcinum on Amazon.

I should add that in addition to the rinses, I use a sinus medicine that helps tremendously! (link below) Make sure to use the night time version. The regular non drowsy versions do nothing for me, even at prescription strength. I normally get it from Costco but my Costco has not had it in recent months but luckily its on Amazon. I am sure though that you can get something similar at the grocery store. There is a very small amount of antihistimine in it (just 2mg, not enough to make me tired) I have been tested for allergies and I do not have any btw. I know of several other people who swear by this stuff for sinus related issues.

This stuff is the only reason I've been able to function for the past few days. Get some.

This is the deal I got when I said 1,440mg of DXM

I can swallow tablets only, not gels. The taste and texture of gels makes me gag, then puke. The most DXM I've taken is 300mg at once, and 120mg takes me to the 1st plateau which is quite nice when you have weed.

I would definitely recommend the little red liquid gels - http://www.amazon.com/Special-pack-ROBITUSSIN-COUGH-GELS/dp/B003LZQ47O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343179108&sr=8-1&keywords=robitussin+cough+gels

A lot of drug stores like walgreens and CVS also carry generics of those.

Sorry it’s zicam. It’s an American thing I guess! But if you had a lot of complex carb food that would cause it to rise slow. Also if you are laying down. All that does it for me! And the only time my stomach hurts is when I got to low and over eat and drink lol

u/NutellaIsDelicious · 0 pointsr/dxm

I personally took 360mg. I'm pretty slim though (125lbs, 5'10"). It was a pretty intense experience.

That said, this was my first ever trip. I would not recommend just taking my advice. Maybe create a topic here about it? I'm sure there are people willing to help you out :)

Have fun and be careful! DXM proved to be incredibly intense and is not something to mess around with :p

I DO however recommend this as a source for DXM. This is 30mg of DXM per pill. I took 360mg so that's 12 pills. I was told for my size, an intense trip would be 360mg, so I decided to do that (it was worth it). My friend who is larger takes 480mg for an intense trip. Seems like an intense trip would be around that range.

Have you ever heard of Zicam? It's homeopathic with the main ingredient being Zinc. Zinc has been proven to stop the reproduction of the cold virus and as a result Zicam shortens colds.

I first heard of it from my boyfriend, who is a firefighter and the guys at the department swear by it. So when I first started my student teaching experience and felt the signs of a cold coming on I used it right away. Seemed like the next day I was already better and I've used it ever since.

Zicam is available in tons of forms, here's what I use.
zicam spray!

Also you can take vit C supplements, wash your hands frequently, and refrain from touching your face while at school!

One more thing- my mentor teacher swore that he NEVER got sick because he gargles peroxide ! I don't know how much truth there is to that though!

Hopefully you get better soon!!

DANGEROUS!

This is what your friends need to be taking if they desire to get high on DXM.
