Amazon. I was searching for cheap shorts and jerseys to stock up on. Funny thing is I paid 45$ for my first two pairs of Canari shorts.

Anyways the prices vary a bit day to day, and are dependant on size and color. I got XL jerseys and shorts for 8$, ordered five jerseys and six pairs of shorts at that price.

Also snagged a wind shell for 5$. Already had a few but for that price I grabbed it to throw in my locker at work for days it rains unexpectedly. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B012Z41WB4/ref=sxts1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472932291&sr=1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65

I'm into trying out extremely inexpensive Chinese off brand gear available on Amazon. It's been hit or miss, but I've found a few things I really like.

These "Baleaf" shorts are good quality and great for the money: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071CTVPG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mpJNzb844WH80

Haven't had as great luck with jerseys, but these 'ARSUXEO' jerseys are OK: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JEBS12E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rtJNzbEWQ8J7W

These "RUNMANER" / "Coconut" jerseys I like a little less but they come in fun designs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KMBXR5Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sCJNzbY46NPYY

Tri shorts are typically made with side or hip pockets, like these:

https://www.amazon.com/Pearl-iZUMi-Elite-Pursuit-Shorts/dp/B010IGOKZG
https://www.amazon.com/2XU-Active-Short-Black-Medium/dp/B073JRXSH5

Note that tri shorts also have thinner pads than other cycling shorts, I've used different 2XU ones and they're very comfy.

First, look at adjusting the seat angle in addition to the fore/aft position of the seat. As /u/Kraphtyone notes, you want to make sure you are on your "sit bones." Your seat can rotate, and the angle position of it is going to determine your comfort.

Second, look into acquiring some inexpensive cycling shorts. I recommend these:

Bike shorts all day!

Best ones are mountain bike liner shorts. All the package cuddling comfort, butt padding, and perforated to keep everything cooler.

$35 Amazon MTB shorts have all you listed and have been awesome for me so far

Amazon is a great spot to find cheap cycling gear, especially if you go with the "made in China" route. You can use a men's chamois to start with; something like this one in US size 3X would likely fit OK!

Light-weight windbreakers are good for riding, you can totally start with something from the thrift shop. A cycling-specific one will be longer in the back (to cover your buttcrack) but I got started with an oversized one I got from the local Goodwill.

Maybe you could go for something like this as your outer layer, then layer warmer tops (especially thermals) underneath:

Everyone will have marginally different results is what I've learned quickly.

I'm awaiting spexcel gear from AliExpress at the moment (bibs and a few jerseys). I love their Jersey designs for the price, just hope they arrive as requested.

Definitely peruse seller details before ordering, things can seem a little messy there.

Reiterating the fact that everyone has different results, [these] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FF1G2KA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LaRRAbN4W3RXK) happened to work well for me and Santic makes bibs with the same padding. I started with shorts and am transitioning to bibs now.

I'm sure someone hates them though so it's just about testing things out, unless you've a seller near you where you can try them on. Good luck on the search!

Edit: I suck at formatting more than climbing

I know pretty much everyone in here is saying that they don't, but I guarantee you that some people do. I've had people made snide comments to me on group rides before when I wasn't all kitted out.

Those people are assholes though, so don't worry about their opinion.

I would also agree though that bike gear isn't just a tribal display. It really is very functional. A jersey that you can unzip halfway in the front to allow airflow is just better even than a moisture wicking shirt for keeping you cool. Padded shorts can keep you comfortable in the saddle for longer than gym shorts by a huge margin. And if you care about your speed, the tight fit of bike clothes give you maximum aero and allow you to go faster with the same amount of work.

So yeah, I agree, wear what you want. Jerks will judge you. Don't worry about jerks. But I'd suggest trying gear out and seeing how you feel riding in it. It does make a difference. You don't need to spend a mint either. Grab starter-level stuff on Amazon. Like this and this. You can even get jerseys at places like Goodwill sometimes, though they usually smell like someone else's sweat.

I'm a skinny 5'4" and wear these $25 shorts from Amazon in a Small size. They fit me really well. The inseam is above my knee.

I got a pair of these and I really like them

These are the shorts I have: From Amazon

I road the bike just over 500 miles in the second half of the year after I bought it. I would say maybe 150-200 were with the shorts.

u/BadBrainsCT · 1 pointr/MTB

This. You can score awesome stuff on the cheap. Also, Amazon. THESE shorts are cheap, comfortable, and last.

u/HotTabascoSauce · 1 pointr/MTB

I have these two

Cycorld Men's Water Repellent MTB Baggy Cycling Shorts, Loose-fit Bicycle Biking 1/2 Pants, Outdoor Sports Leisure Bottoms (L, Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LFSKYBJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KhyYCbRZ4P235

The first ones are better imo. Bigger pockets, better stretch. The Arsuxeos have weird pockets and are longer than I like. I wear a L in the Cyclords and a M in the Arsuxeos and the waits are about the same, so check the size charts.

These are the ones I got, I don't think $30 is too much at all! https://www.amazon.com/Baleaf-Mens-Cycling-Shorts-Padded/dp/B00YQU2B2A

Is that one way or round trip? Maybe not the most necessary if that is a round trip total, but if you are going to doing it every day, it will makes things a little more comfortable.

If you want something a little quicker to get in or out of, you could pick up some MTB shorts which have padding in them.
https://www.amazon.com/EZRUN-Padded-Mountain-Lightweight-Cycling/dp/B07H7ZKM17/ref=sr_1_3?crid=OLFL1I1ALU5Z

Seat is trickier, ideally you'd go to a bike shop and try some out, but my shop doesn't carry many seats. So I did all the research I could for seats that were good for bigger riders and I had narrowed it down to a Brooks or the ISM. At the end of the day, it seemed like the ISM was made better for longer ride comfort.

The seat that came with my bike was a true ass hatchet and was awful only a couple miles in. So I knew it was the wrong one for me.

Your local bike store might have a try before you buy and they can probably help get you fitted. That might be a legit part of your problem is that the seat you have isn't awful, you just need a proper fitting for your bike. At one point, I was having some knee issues from riding and a seat adjustment fixed all that. Also, you can hit up a site like www.bicycleseats.com where you can buy a few options and they will accept returns of the seats you didn't like.

Hope this helps!

I've owned a pair for a better part of a year, but eventually, the clip button thing fell out and vanished into the abyss, which I fixed and the pocket threads were unraveling. They are super lightweight, but like was said, I'm not a fan if I have anything big in the pockets.

I've worn them for roughly 25-30 rides and are very satisfied with them, especially considering the price.

I switch between those and some older Fox Shorts with the drawstring legs and flaps over the pockets. eBay is good for getting some decent shorts that were $80 for $25-30.
