I would just use blank dice. (Also, I'd be sparing about it. It'll be funniest if you do it rarely.)

I own this set. Real heavy rolling, so bring a pad or dice tray. I'd trust anything these guys sell.

u/hankakusai · 10 pointsr/rpg

step 1: get a dice tray.

step 2: announce any rolls made outside the dice tray will not count.

step 3: watch every player roll the dice.

step 4: profit ... or call the cheating player out in front of everyone, they'll either quit or wont do it again,
embarrassing people in front of their peers is a good punishment.

I have similar sized dice!

My friend mainly plays Orks and Tryranids in 40k and at one point needed to roll 120 dice for a single squads shooting phase.

The marines were not happy with that turn.

Since you're using minis, i dont know if this would work or not, but my crew has a bunch of tiny D6's like these and when I DM with large encounters, I'll use the different colors and numbers so like Blue4 or Red6 to label mine.

Alternatively, if most of your monsters and npc are going to be fighting one another, say the Knights are gonna take the zombies while the Party&Pally take the Necromancer, have the Knights roll one solid attack roll for all their zombies, and have the zombies in turn roll one solid attack for all their Knights.

Say we have the 8 knights take on 2 zombies each. Set a DC for a hit, and a number of hits for a kill. Imagining your knights are in plate I would say 5-8 hits to take them down and 3 to take a single zombie down.

Roll a D20. Add base attack modifier.

On a 1-11 the group misses completely

On a 12+ they get a hit

On a Nat 20 they kill one zombie each.

Then do the same thing for the zombies with the knights AC. If you wanna kill a few knights off, make the rolls lower.

Lemme know what you think.

You’re also going to want more than one set of dice. If you look around on Amazon you can find some pretty cheap dice from Smartdealspro.

Oh, also:

  • Print out multiple copies of the character sheets, one for each player, plus maybe one or two extra in case one gets messed up.
  • Pencils, and some erasers. Pencil sharpeners if the pencils aren’t mechanical.
  • A pen & notebook for you to keep track of stuff.
  • Plenty of people have made up cheat sheets with all of the reference material they find useful in one place. Maybe print out a few of these, see which you find most useful in actual play.

Added luxuries, if you’re flush with money:

  • Dice trays, to keep the dice from rolling off the table and under the couch.
  • It can be really handy for each player to have a clipboard to hold their character sheet, so they can write on it without taking up table space. (Can you tell I live in NYC, and game in small apartments without a lot of table space?)

Some players will bring this kind of stuff on their own, but if you’ve got a group that hasn’t played before, it’s better to be prepared.

Basically regular dice with a Planeswalker symbol around the numbers. One die has 1-6 and the other is numbered 7-12.

I've been playing a little bit of Ironsworn, with a new character (Milla Ravenmark). I've also have just learned about "narrative dice". I honestly had no idea those were a thing, and I was surprised because I love rolling polyhedrals! I mean, the first thing that came to mind were Rory Story Cubes (which of course I own), but nope. Narrative dice are different, and they are used in the Genesys system and a couple of Star Wars RPGs that I haven't tried. A quick google search gave me some new info on the topic!

Thanks to Runehammer's video on narrative dice, and his DIY system, I have just bought a couple of materials from Amazon in hopes of creating my own custom set: 100 assorted color blank six-sided dice, a simple electric engraver that can be used with plastic, and a set of paint pens. The paint pen idea came from this video that teaches you how to color your custom engraved dice. His system looks PERFECT for a solo rpg approach! Now, I'm hinking on how to use those dice with USR rpg.

I'm also working on creating my custom dice tower on the cheap using a can of Pringles and some other easy-to-get items.

I'm looking forward to see how things go!

u/Invader_Stef · 3 pointsr/boardgames

Usually we use dice towers.
In games where dice are rolled multiple times in succession or have to be picked out often dice trays like this one are pretty useful.

u/Crimsaen · 3 pointsr/DicePorn

I got it in the wiz dice bag of devouring, but I believe you can also get them here https://www.amazon.com/Die-Polyhedral-Dice-Set-Forbidden/dp/B00BR3XHX6?ref_=bl_dp_s_mw_6165401011

I think compiling a list of tools used for prototyping would be useful to add to the list.

Free Software

nanDECK (script based card creation tool)

GIMP (free photoshop-esque program)

Inkscape (another visual editing program)

Adobe Suite CS2 (requires adobe registration, but "free")

[Google Docs] (great resource to store files, create spreadsheets, design diaries, play-test notes, rulebook versions, etc)

Physical Tools

Super 77 Spray Abhesive (far better than any glue stick and easier to use)

Blank Assorted Dice (awesome when combined with pre-set sticker labels for fast custom dice)

Sticker Labels Paper (great for random stuff, templates available on the Avery website)

On that note, anyone have a recommendation for a good paper guillotine? I got burned by one of the cheaper models from Officemax and have been nervous to buy a more expensive one.

But seriously, buy a bunch of d6s; something like this is a good start. A starting character will be throwing 12-16 dice for something they're good at.

Welcome to the shadows, omae. Watch your back and never deal with a dragon.

Edit: replaced mobile link with desktop link.

u/wat_is_this_readit · 2 pointsr/dndnext

A nice dice tray would be a good gift, unless they already own one ofcourse*. Depending on how much money you have to throw around theres something like this. Which is really practical since it folds up nice and fits in a back pack.

Otherwise I also use one of these which is a bit sturdier but trickier to transport.

And if you have that cash, Wymrwood are know for their quality but it's really expensive.

*And if they do, an upgrade won't hurt.

u/Cubbance · 2 pointsr/boardgames

There's Zombie Dice Double Feature which adds three new dice. It adds a red die that represents Santa (yeah, I know, weird) and a black and white die and pink die that represent the teenage boyfriend and girlfriend who are fighting the zombies. You can play with just Santa, or just the two teens, or all three. In each case, for as many dice as you add from the expansion, you take dice OUT of the base game, so you still always have 13.

It adds a few new mechanics that freshen gameplay, and it's pretty fun. The big yellow die is the school bus expansion, and I've never played it. I don't think it replaces dice, though. I think you roll it in addition to the dice, so it wouldn't solve your problem at all.

u/UnfortunateTruths · 2 pointsr/Shadowrun

I ended up kind of doing the opposite. I got these non-gloss white dice and used red and blue sharpies on the relevant sides. They may not be the prettiest dice ever, but they work ridiculously well for Shadowrun and they were incredibly inexpensive. 100 dice for about ten dollars.

A guy in my game group has this tray from Amazon and it's really helped us a lot when playing on a crowded table. The dice get to roll naturally, and when we play games with lots of dice it helps keep them corralled. A neat side benefit is that it serves as a place keeper and signal that the turn is passing to the next player.

But really, at $22.00 it's pretty overpriced for what it is, at least we think so. He's moved away taking his tray with him, and I think I'm going to construct one myself.

I just DM'd my first session of the starter adventure on Saturday. I ended up using this graph paper pad to draw out battle maps, and I got these blank dice to use for minis.

First combat, I had everyone choose a color, then gave them an extra to keep in front of them so I could easily see who was who. There are 9 total colors, so depending on how many players you have, that gives you some wiggle room for your own NPC's and monsters.

You can get bulk dice pretty cheap on Amazon as well (I think I paid around $11 for 6 sets), and pencils are a good idea.

u/watrbombr · 1 pointr/boardgames

I’m hoping that sharing these dice trays will help. After using several of the rectangle ones for gaming, including with KoT, I can highly recommend. One of these square-sized ones will fit laying flat in the box. There may be some lid lift depending on what organization solution you go with.

I also have the Broken Token insert for KoT. I waited a while to get it, even using my own homemade foam core insert for a while. Happy I finally bit! I store all the expansions along with King of New York and some upgraded components/bits. Although no promo monsters and only the power-up cards for KoT, not KoNY.

I really love the Chessex sets, speckled in particular. Contrasting or at least colors that are easy to read. I also have a set of brass d6 for rolling stats. In general I like to have a few extra dice from the same set for specific cases.

Like an extra d20 for when rolling with advantage or disadvantage.

http://chessex.com/Dice/Dice_Home.htm

From their normal Speckled dice sets I have the Hurricane, Air (Not a fan of the Air set really, so substuted Hurricane in for 4 elements), Water, Fire, Earth, and Ninja sets. I also really like the 'Golden Cobalt' bit do not own that set. I also have the Out of Print Primula set, but am missing one die from it.

I have a bunch of extra Ninja D6 as well for playing Shadowrun.

I had a few pieces of the Mercury dice set I bought as individual dice, but gave away to stave off my Dice OCD.

I find Opaque dice boring unless black with red numbers or pips.

As for their Translucent dice, the Smoke and Teal sets both look interesting.

Under their Signature sets:

The Gemini line has quite a few nice sets. I like the looks of about half of them, so not going to list all of those.

Lustrous sub category the 'Purple w/ Gold' look great in person, A friend has that set.

Scarab sub category. Jade w/gold, Royal Blue w/gold, and Scarlet w/gold all look nice to me.

The Vortex set 'Burgundy w/gold' is also appealing.

As for my metal D6's I picked up the Antique Bronze 4pk back when that was $17.99. I'm presuming that specific set is not currently available as that specific set is now over $70 on Amazon, but other metal D6 4pks are still on Amazon for $16-$20.

Skull Splitter also has a bunch of very nice complete dice sets as well. If you use Metal Dice I highly recommend getting or making a dice tray. I made mine from a small black wooden tray that I lines with adhesive velvet from a craft store. Makes a great sound and was super cheap and easy. However there are a large selection of dice trays on Amazon as well.

I use this dice bag for my various Chessex dice. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F2YSPJ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

While I keep my Metal dice in one of these, although it was $17 when I purchased it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DN2B10E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Love both the bags.

Probably a lot more information than you expected, but that what I have in my rotation since I started playing in the mid 90's. I'll quite likely get a cube of the smaller D6 and a matching cube of larger D6 if and when I get back into playing Warhammer 40K. Likely one of the Gemini Sets that match my army like the 'Blue-Red w/gold'

I got a new dice bag and some new dice. Not just for Magic TCG but I hated having to sift through my old shitty bag.

https://www.amazon.com/Third-Die-Dice-Bag-Handcrafted/dp/B01F2YSPJ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480435203&sr=8-1&keywords=third+eye+dice+bag

Also, if you use a Crown Royal bag, you're a dirty savage.

u/brickfrenzy · 1 pointr/boardgames

I love the silly first player rules, but almost never use them. We usually use a set of Go First Dice to decide play order.

u/ironslinkey · 1 pointr/magicTCG

Foam. Dice. WITH NUMBERS. They're light, people are always confused, and they make super simple counters. Also you get 36 for like ten bucks.

Sure, some people might complain they're not perfectly balanced or some shit, but at FNM no one cares and they're fun to throw at your friends.

u/CalT2410 · 1 pointr/magicTCG

While whatever dice are the "official dice of the Magic Pro-Tour" (Side note, why is that not a legitimate product line? They'd probably sell.) is out there somewhere, they seem just like generic oversized dice with numbers instead of pips. Thus, I suppose something like this would suffice for what you're looking for.

u/kaithemad · 1 pointr/DnD

These dice are great. I have this set and a blue set and they're still good even after a few years.

u/Packrat1010 · 1 pointr/EDH

Make sure if you run stuff like that, you bring these along with you. They're a lifesaver for tracking a lot of +1 counters.

My favorite gift is the Sonic Screwdriver I got fro my birthday two years ago, from a young woman who is like a daughter to me. Something I've wanted for a long time, from one of my favorite shows, from someone very special to me.
