First: IANAL

So here's the thing: You're in Georgia. Georgia is, in terms of wiretapping law, a "one-party" state. What this means is this: In order for a conversation to be legally recorded, one party to the conversation must be aware of and consent to the recording. What this means is, yes, you should absolutely do all of the other record gathering and write everything down, but when you call loss-prevention, as long as the loss prevention is in your state, you are perfectly ok to record the call. If the loss prevention department is not in your state, but when you talk to them you get a little recording that says "This call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes" you are still free and clear to record the call. That means that the other end is aware the call could be recorded and you are giving consent by not hanging up.

Why would you do this? If you think it's a shitstorm if your manager isn't reporting your wages properly, imagine the shitstorm if you have a recorded instance of reporting this to the corporation, like you're supposed to, and they then fire you. Your next step is to report them to the state and federal labor departments (federal if the loss prevention people are out of state), or speak to a local lawyer and watch the dollar signs pop up in his eyes as he imagines the gigantic settlement they'll give you to keep you quite (especially if the loss prevention people are across state lines).

Failing all of this: if your loss prevention is out of state and does not record their calls (meaning that you can't legally record the phone calls), then write down the content of EVERY CALL YOU MAKE AS SOON AS YOU'RE DONE MAKING IT. This is not as good as a recording, but it should suffice.

If you're curious how to record the calls, assuming you have a smartphone, you should be able to download an app that can record calls. If you do not have a smartphone, you can get a digital recorder and a phone hookup relatively cheaply:

Hi /u/ButteryDankness - I will try to answer your questions and then make a recommendation.

> Is this actually true?

Yes, DSLRs generally have noisy preamps.

> Is there any way to get around this?

Yes, with an external preamp or recorder. The most affordable option is something like [this setup] (https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMDvb0xbkGpOvq6wJcd0chGbWC_Fpj7KKESJ2cj69vSPd12cuGBP8_ZfkoRnlWdUQ/photo/AF1QipOHKeyIf7heugShBrYyrivyYQ5OYcw3-2inF2UR?key=WTNZd3EyUUk0a0luYWZYS0NnSDNXT1dYMEV4ZGh3) mounted on my GH4 - with a recorder, shotgun mic, 8" cold shoe extension and a line level to mic level attenuation cable plugged into the camera.

With a $200 budget, I recommend:

u/provideocreator · 8 pointsr/videography

I would spend more on a good microphone instead of just a shotgun capsule for audio recorder. Just setup a Sennheiser MKE600 as your mic into a Tascam DR40, then use the rest of the budget for a cable and microphone stand. You don't need a boom pole, just a simple boom stand.

Normal LSD tested with Ehrlich's reagent. I think it was James Fadiman himself who said its most effective/efficient if you take it every 4th day, which is what I've been doing. I feel 15-20% of what I felt the day previous. I took my little sliver of a tab 14 hours ago as of this post, and while the effects are nowhere near what they were at the beginning, its still quite noticable. I'm much more in the moment... its just a lot of little things you begin to notice. Making people laugh, saying witty remarks, explaining complicated subject matters more easily, these things flow out effortlessly and you don't really notice it until the result/reaction from other people.

But despite the effects dropping a lot after the day you use it, for me it ingrains that pattern into me for the rest of the day, and then the days after. Imagine a drum beating steadily, and you get quickly used to it. Slowly and slowly it fades away; but even though the actual beat may be gone, your mind becomes so ingrained to that modality, the drum doesn't have to be there for you to "groove" to it. I hope that makes sense, I know it is rather abstract. Essentially, even though the effects of LSD fade away, those repeated thought patterns form strong enough neural connections where you can continue to work as you did.

I'm only making this observation from a few data points, but building on what I just said, perhaps once those connections are strong enough in your mind, you can wean off LSD and be just as effective. Perhaps some time in the future there can be some sort of structured "LSD therapy" where you take it until the thought patterns become ingrained enough in your head, and you can always take a "refresher" if you want to hone your skills or wish to improve further.

And as for the more stubborn cases people may have with wishing to change their thought patterns, I'm sure every fourth day can be changed to every third day, or perhaps every second day. You'll just get a lowered effect from the given dosage, and will need to have a higher dose to feel the same way. There needs to be some study done to examine the rate at which LSD and its metabolites leave your body, and from knowing that you can take a consistent dosage with as short of a delay as possible. Meaning instead of growing the dosage by 10-30-50% and spiraling up into very wasteful dosages day after day after day, you can perhaps take nug every 2 days with equal effects. Finding this out would be the answer to the most hardcore and efficient microdosing regimen you can take, which I'm sure many in the tech/academic fields could use for extended projects and such. Or finding out a way to flush it from your system much quicker to get the same effect, but that's outside of what I know.

Yeah, starting higher and working my way down made sense to me. I mean don't get me wrong, I've done educational things at 100ug, and it was incredible. I remember being in this hypnotic zombie state learning about fractals and Mandelbrot because I felt like it, and I wanted to share with my good friend how much my love of mathematics has grown in the past few hours. Well I called him, and even though there was so many things I wanted to say, I couldn't form one sentence. My mind was thinking so fast, by the time the first 2 words for the first sentence I said came out, I already knew what I was going to say for the second, third, fourth, and fifth sentence, and by then I forgot what the rest of the words were for the first sentence lol. I'm starting a small business, so I NEED to be able to communicate with people, and effectively, but at the same time I want as big of an edge as possible, so making a full circle back to my point, that's why it was more comfortable for me to start higher (which I'm comfortable with), and dialing it down to the right level for my application.

Going off on a tangent for a moment, but if you do ever take a larger amount and want to pull thoughts from your head for creativity, problem solving, etc, you NEED to have some way to get those ideas out of your head as fast as possible so your mind can continue to flow. Yes, at that point the largest bottleneck is the speed of your hands. What works best for me is a notepad and a pen, and a small voice recorder (here's what I use from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014658DS0?keywords=voice%20recorder%20olympus%20usb&qid=1453703746&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) Complete grammatically correct sentences take too long, I just say words and small phrases. Then when you go back and listen to yourself, you can chain everything together.

I hope I answered your questions adequately. I know my post is a little long-winded, but I hope someone takes the value in it and tries it himself/herself.

Dragon Professional Individual v15 is the only tool in the market right now worth buying. It has a transcription feature that allows you to transcribe what you've dictated into a digital recorder on the road. You'll need a good digital recorder as the voice recording you'll get from a smartphone will not be good enough.

You'll need something like this or another digital recorder from their hardware compatibility list.

The majority of my clients are automotive.

All the marketing directors I work with keep trying to do the same thing as you (purchasing gear to avoid hiring a professional videographer like myself). They always do one or two videos, realize it's a lot harder than they think, and end up calling me to do it. A few months later they buy a new toy and try again, only to fall on their face and calling me again.

At a BARE minimum, you should get a G85 and pair it with a great versatile lens that takes advantage of dual IS like this one. A great lav kit is needed for this type of shoot, shotgun mics are not your friend on a live car dealership set. Don't forget an external audio recorder, too. And a tripod with fluid head.

tl;dr Hire a local videographer with gear, then offer them a retainer guaranteeing him/her 20 hours a month. It's a lot easier and you'll probably end up doing it anyway. They'll take of everything for you and you can focus on bigger picture stuff.

Exactamundo! This one (Olympus VP-10) looks like a Sharpie marker and nobody will ever know! (the control panel faces inward toward your chest) Change the setting from stereo to mono so that the digital files are smaller, otherwise its memory will fill up in no time. Set to mono mode, you can get a couple weeks worth of full day's audio. It works on one AAA battery and if you get a good alkaline battery it will last the full day no problem; switch out battery every morning. Oympus is one of the big names in audio recorders; just check out their other models for proof of that.

Bodycams would be ideal if it weren't for their large size and short battery life and limited memory capacity. This will change someday as technology advances, but we're not there yet.

Rape accusation - it's a good start that OP is 1500 miles away. That is a relatively airtight defense.

However accusations still remaining include harassment, etc. The gf's MO seems to be to try to threaten things a few times before making good on the threats, so I would pick up one of these, or an equivalent phone app, to record all calls. If you catch someone threatening to make a false allegation against you, that goes a long way.

Answer to ?2: tascam dr-05 is a nice handheld recorder. You can record in the same bit depth as the Digitakt and you can use it in either stereo or mono. I use it in mono for the Digitakt.

I bought an audio recorder, and would drop the file into Microsoft OneNote. At that point I would look at the time on the recorder when its recording and make a note highlight with the timestamp of the recorder. As far as writing anything else, I can't do that shit either.
I remember in highschool writing down notes, and my friends were talking about pokemon. End of class went through my notes... half of it was about pokemon and I didn't realize i was even doing that...

Record yourself. Audio is all it takes although getting a buddy to film you is obviously better. You'll be amazed at the little things you'll pick up about how you're coming off. You can buy a recorder and mic on Amazon for less than $30 total.

Secondly, make sure you're being honest with yourself. Are you really that clueless as to what you're doing wrong, or is this just a defense mechanism?

u/vtandback · 3 pointsr/AskAcademia

I have this one which I've been using for interviews this year and so far I've been really happy with it. It's easy to use and the sound quality is good, especially compared to the simultaneous recordings I did on my phone for backup. It also has a built in USB port so it's dead simple to transfer files to your computer.

What state are you in? Do you have two party consent or singular?

Potentially you can record the conversations when he's out of the room to prove the situation is occurring. However, if you don't have the law on your side or if you think your husband might just ignore you.. then I don't know. Sorry your situation is so crappy, I feel for you.

Honestly. I have been where you are right now.

If you want to take this as seriously as possible and become a producer, the thing you need to invest in most is audio.

Cameras will come and go, but a great mic and recorder will go a long way to making your work so much better. I still use my t3i's in productions with my GH4. The t3i is an amazing little camera and you have the nifty figty which is the only lens I shot on for years.

If you want to get a really nice camera that will be a great investment I would suggest a combo of camera + a Tascam recorder.

I have this recorder and LOVE it.

and this Camera would be a great combo for you with the Tascam 70d.

I have the GH4 and it's amazing and the panasonic fz1000 is crazy good with an amazing lens.

Good luck!

Actually these days you can get flash memory based ones - though they maybe a bit smaller than an old cassette tape walkman. Tape may also be familiar to her.

Those devices would also record - so there may be a way to disable recording perhaps on that particular device.

I searched google for: amazon large buttons recorder flash

And got some links like these:

This one has large buttons:

Again these are mostly for recording, so have large record buttons.

Here's one that's just a player:

I was using a Sony ICD-UX533 dictation recorder that was pretty decent (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQ7WRAC/). As I've been working on relaxing my throat in my mixed and high range, I didn't like how it wasn't fully picking up the dark overtones in my voice (Contralto). I honestly always thought I was a "low mezzo" but I've since gotten feedback that nope I seem to be developing into a true Contralto. It's a great recorder though, comparable to the Zoom I think and a lot cheaper.

Anyways so I just started using a Roland R-05 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FGN0I0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage) and it's definitely better but I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet. I don't expect studio quality without a fancy pants microphone of course but still you want some sense of what your voice is doing.

Edit: I bought my Roland R-05 used for under $100, just saw Amazon listing it for like $1,000!! omg no. http://www.reverb.com often has them or you can look on ebay.

Edit2: uploaded a recording I made with the Sony ICD-UX533 of of me singing at a workshop I did this week so you can get a sense of what it sounds like (not making any great claims to fame here about my voice or singing ability, just sharing the recording quality): https://soundcloud.com/goeldvox-boom-chickachickachicka-wowow/beautiful-dreamer-song-studio/s-jP42Y I'll post something with the Roland to compare at some point :)

u/KingKane · 2 pointsr/SquaredCircle

I assume there's some indie promoters reading this. Presumably if you have a microphone, its going to some kind of mixer thing before going to the speakers. All you gotta do is connect the line-out or headphone jack of the mixer to a cheap ass audio recorder and you'll get crystal-clear sound to sync to your videos instead of this amateur echo-y mess.

u/tripacklogic · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

if you still have a 3.5mm headphone port

EDIT: I have a Pixel 3 and only a USB-C connection, but I assume you can use the adapter to 3.5mm.

Not sure why they disabled call recording, but it seems like Apple is doing the same. I think its insane.

I've used Olympus digital voice recorders in the past for ambient recordings and have nothing but good things to say.

This seems to be the most popular version and comes at a good price. I haven't used this model myself, though.

I'd recommend also buying an external mic just in case you hiding the actual device on your person is a lil too cumbersome. This might do.

Edit: Changed the external mic suggestion. (Links to an Audio Technica product on Amazon, about $7 more)

Can I use voice recorders (Dictaphones) which have a 3.5mm mic input for voice recording with a boom mic? Or a lapel mic?
How is the quality?
e.g. I can get this one even cheaper sometimes on ebay: https://www.amazon.com/Olympus-Digital-Recorder-WS-852-Silver/dp/B014658DS0/

u/Alphamous · 1 pointr/dawnofjustice

I already know about apps. I wanted a physical device.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Velleman-MK171-Voice-Changer/dp/B004XZQ6RE

I wanted the microphone to have cord and not be attached to the board.
I found some on eBay, but I think I'll go with the Amazon one and test it out, maybe I can do something if I have time with the mic.

Thanks for the suggestion.

This is a link to one of my videos where I use the mic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PFcBxADzeI&t=37s

You may not be able to see it (its clipped on my collar under my beard). I feel that it probably does work better clipped to a tie, but does the job for me.

Here is the link to Amazon for the mic:

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-ECMCS3-Omnidirectional-Stereo-Microphone/dp/B0058MJX4O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1551210188&sr=8-3&keywords=sony+ecm-cs3+tie+clip+microphone

And here is a link to the recorder I use, which I just shove in my pocket. (Cool thing about it, is it has as sliding USB end that lets me immediately plug into my computer rather than link it through cable or deal with memory cards):

https://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICD-PX470-Stereo-Digital-Recorder/dp/B06XTX2S2N/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1551210347&sr=8-4&keywords=sony+voice+recorder

Full disclosure, you might have to play around with the mic, as I noticed the volume will sometimes adjust on it, probably due to me moving around at times. It is powerful, though, as it will pick up anyone sitting next to me, and with the recorder even picks up ambient noise from downstairs.

Hope this helps.

u/JackNotName · 1 pointr/relationship_advice

Does your state have single consent recording laws? If so, buy a pocket voice recorder. (I had a lot of success with the Olympus VP-10). You want something that will fit in your pocket and can easily be turned to record without looking. Practice this.

Then record every conversation she has with you. You will end up with evidence of verbal and physical abuse. Next time she hits you, just call the cops. Get her arrested and ask for a restraining order.

Then file for divorce.

i ordered a board off amazon that's meant to be used as a custom sound greeting card thing. I ripped all the existing connections off and soldered an elastomer button, 180maH battery, female jumper wires that i plug into a small speaker. I used a battery from a kit that was meant to convert a playstation classic controller to wireless. I also trimmed the edges of the sound board to get a better fit.

Anything below $80.

Anyone know of a portable recording device that has a STEREO 3.5mm(1/8") input?

Something like this:

>1/8" stereo mic/line input

I don't need all the bells and whistles, no special EQ options and the like, I just need a portable device that will accept my 3.5mm stereo mic and preferably a low amount of noise. I took a chance and purchased a digital recorder, but the 3.5mm line was mono :I

For years, I've had to use this mic with a laptop, and it's not the best when it comes to portability.
