Does your friend’s dog have the “do not distract during job” or something like that service dog vest ?
My classmate had it and when I asked them about the effective of the vest and she said it’s worked fairly well expect for some children

I have the Ruffwear Front Range harness (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MZ9E1LX/ref=twister_B00MLXEVLS?_encoding=UTF8&th=1) for my shih tzu mix and I love it! I've been using it daily for nearly two years now and it's still in excellent condition.

It's awesome. I got it to buckle him in the car and have padding that covers more space to avoid injury should anything happen. Super heavy duty, seems very comfortable. My dog loves wearing it, but that could just be because it means a car ride

It’s a sling lift/harness made by Labra (purchased through Amazon) that we use mostly indoors to help him get around. Chance has developed DM in his rear legs over the last 2 months and needs extra help around the house, especially when going up the stairs. We’ve found it to work well especially because it’s a simple loop around his belly that’s easily attachable via velcro. Normally, he uses a Solvit rear harness that attaches more securely around his hips and rear legs and comes with a handle for us to use. This is more stable than the Labra harness and is what we use on his daily short walks around the neighborhood. Hope this answers your question! :)

You could try accessorizing your dog a little bit...This harness is a pretty nifty tool in my opinion. I work with shelter dogs and have "adopt me", "no dogs" and "caution" versions and it at least decreases our negative experiences if I have to put the dog in a bad situation.

First idea, if you see another dog coming, then have your dog sit and focus on you. You need to try communicating with the owner and can't watch your dog for a few seconds, sit will keep them out of trouble. If the owner sees you stopped, then they will be aware that something is up.
The message you want to send to other owners is that you're not ready yet. More people will respond to "in training and can't deal with you yet" than "get your dog on a leash, wtf are you doing?" You're not trying to berate people for being off-leash, you're just trying to take care of your fluff.

Another potential solution if you feel comfortable is to try and body block the incoming dogs if you can get yours to sit off to the side or behind you as both dogs and people will understand this as "hey, go away" and again communicate "hey, we're not ready for this."

Good luck! Thanks for taking on a challenging dog and keeping them exercised. Go you!! Hope it improves.

You can probably ask the breeder to measure for you and look for something adjustable to have ready.

My puppy went through so many harnesses, and it was almost impossible to find ones that fit a 2lb puppy at all, but this style has by far been the easiest to grow with for us.

Rabbitgoo Dog Harness No-Pull Pet Harness Adjustable Outdoor Pet Vest 3M Reflective Oxford Material Vest for Dogs Easy Control for Small Medium Large

I got it off Amazon and so far so good. It's got a clip on the back as well - so you can switch between the two as needed.

Also, the instructions it comes with shows it on backwards - just look at the pictures people post on there for orientation. Logo should be on their back, not the chest.

u/Cupcakeslie · 3 pointsr/childfree
u/cakesngiggles · 2 pointsr/reactivedogs

I got this one after my 55lb dog broke his basic pet store harness while bolting at an animal. I love that it has two clips (though the front one looks less sturdy) and is adjustable on the sides.

u/LaLaaLove · 2 pointsr/dogs

I use this TrueLove Harness for my 15lb miniature poodle:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B072FNQ7G5/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523582330&sr=8-3&keywords=truelove+harness+for+dogs&dpPl=1&dpID=51svE9S%2BdcL&ref=plSrch

It's super-reflective, light-weight, and there's an easy-grab handle which is great for the dog park.

We use the front-clip for structured walks and the back-clip for long lines or Flexi leashes.

u/gafana · 2 pointsr/Bulldogs

Thanks! And we've gone through several. Harnesses and this one is hands down the best. VERY fast and easy to put on and take off, very solid yet soft and padded, and everything is adjustable. Got it on Amazon.

Ruffwear - Front Range No-Pull Dog Harness with Front Clip, Tillandsia Purple (2017), Large/X-Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N21VWH7?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

u/SheytanHS · 2 pointsr/Dogtraining

There are "do not pet" vests, and if you leave your dog unattended and think she might bite, I would strongly recommend using one. It could save your own dog's life by avoiding a bad situation where she injures somebody, who then presses charges.

Vest:

https://www.amazon.com/Harness-Removable-Reflective-Patches-Purchase/dp/B00BOWR0L0/

Bandana:

https://www.amazon.com/NEED-SPACE-Bandana-Medium-Large/dp/B01AVJNNDA/

If I thought my dog was somewhat likely bite somebody, I would have every possible vest, bandana, collar, etc. available on him to warn others avoid that possibility. Heck I'd consider strapping on a speaker that plays "Do not pet, I may bite" over and over.

u/AbsintheDragonfly · 2 pointsr/Dachshund

We'd been using the Gooby brand, but our kids figured out how to escape from those, so I switched to Ruffwear, because it has a third strap which sits behind the rib cage. So far no Houdini tricks.

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N10GGKT/ref=emc_b_5_t

We got the XS size.

u/munkyyy · 2 pointsr/AustralianCattleDog

The harnesses dont fit properly if theyre slipping out, not to mention both of them. You need to get proper fitting ones and train like the other commenter recommended. Even if theyre not usually aggressive if theyre off leash and run up to another leashed dog and end up in a scuffle youre the one liable.

Ive seen this brand recommended on this sub quite a bit. This style should be good and the neck is adjustable, which should be helpful, if they cant get it over their head youre good to go.

Just got this and am a fan so far!

u/thereisonlyoneme · 2 pointsr/dogs

I joke that my dog has more gear than most people but it's not too far from the truth. I don't know about leashes with small clasps but my guess is the thinner the leash the smaller the clasp. We don't use booties. My boy is weird about his feet so I doubt he would cooperate for those.

We have a regular leash of course. A slip leash is handy when you don't want to put on a collar. Also it works well at the beach since sand would jam a clasp. I snapped up a reflective vest for cheap in case we ever hike close to hunting areas, but we haven't used it yet. He has a PFD for paddling and boating. It's good for safety reasons of course but also the handle helps me haul him out of the water. I recently bought a sleeping bag when someone here on /r/dogs posted an awesome coupon code. We haven't used it yet except around the house and he likes it. Also I have a doggie backpack. I can't remember the brand and I'm at work. I think it has been discontinued anyway. But if you are interested PM me and I'll look when I get home. Hope I haven't forgotten anything. ;-)

[This is the harness I have.](Authentic Puppia RiteFit Harness with Adjustable Neck, Black, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005CTGC6K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BFYNyb6CAHFJ7)

It's great as it adjusts at the beck and the waist so you can get nice fit on their chest rather than choke them.

u/ToneDiez · 2 pointsr/reddevils

The harness I got on Amazon, I found the patch on eBay.

As for United dog gear, not too sure where to find any; basically why I just got a patch and put it on this harness. Haha

u/dazdnconfzd · 2 pointsr/RunningWithDogs

For street runners you should definitely get a dog reflective vest and also comes in handy for trail running when your pup could be mistaken for a deer and it's hunting season...

Here is Java in his

u/MurphyTheMastiff · 2 pointsr/reactivedogs

I actually just order this Big Dog Harness. Seems to have decent reviews and has multiple leash connects. I also purchased a martingale collar. I want to be able to use both and not be limited to just one. Hopefully with training, that'll be attainable.

u/mijoli · 2 pointsr/dogsupplies

Yes. I'm in Sweden and ordered it from amazon.co.uk since it's not available here.

Edit for link.

u/lumaraiko · 2 pointsr/dogs

I can recommend this one from ruffwear
You can attach the leash at the front (his helps a lot if the dog pulls on the leash) or on the back.

u/thirty-helens-agree · 1 pointr/BostonTerrier

My Boston wears a size medium Puppia Ritefit harness. She's about 18-19 lbs.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but we have a Ruffwear harness that has clips on the front and the back. It's been super helpful, and it's padded so if he does pull, it's not digging into him and hurting him.

u/Theopocalypse · 1 pointr/puppy101

Get a harness with a chest loop. Pup won't choke itself and when it pulls will be spun back around to you. One of the best purchases I've made. I'd get an adjustable 15 to 20 foot leash for free walking as well as a 6 foot for quick trips out to potty and for training purposes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M6YASY1?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

u/sofonisba · 1 pointr/Whippets

I have a Whippet / JRT mix and she has to have a harness. This is what I have. It fits pretty good (a little big in the neck but not bad).

I go on several hikes a month with my Rottweiler and I can only recommend you what I am personally using which is this harness and this leash.

I like it. Currently have the large, fits snug, reflective, has a handle and two leash connect points.

u/chortlesandgiggles · 1 pointr/AskWomen

Here's the leash!

And the steamer It's more than $25 now...I guess I got mine on some kind of sale. There are plenty of them on there though for under $25.

u/FiveFourThreeNoseOne · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I hope this counts because he could really use it. Plus he'd look great in it, he looks great in everything.

They're usually like 50 on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/OneTigris-Tactical-Training-Harness-Coyote/dp/B00PZWDMSK

I almost got one for shits and giggles. I still might. My dog's current harness sucks.

u/Nosfurrettu · 1 pointr/Pekingese

I like this style of harness as it's great for when our peke pulls. It also won't choke him and make him gag. We've used this style for my last peke and pom as well. Even converted my mom's pom to one as she is a massive puller.

I use a Truelove Comfort Control Harness and a seatbelt clip. I have driven from Houston to Austin a few times with no issues.

Plus, Barley loves it!

Not sure what’s up with that link. Maybe this will work - https://www.amazon.com/RUFFWEAR-Front-Range-Harness-Medium/dp/B01N10INNX

You may want to consider one of these! http://www.amazon.com/CAUTION-Non-Pull-Approach-PREVENTS-Accidents/dp/B00BY9FOG6/
pay attention to the measurements for the pets, they come in different sizes.

What a sweet looking baby. Glad he kept you safe from this creep.

u/neilalicious · 1 pointr/germanshepherds

Not OP But I have the OneTigris and it fits perfect, doesn't leave any rashes or anything for long durations/hikes. It's designed so you can add any MOLLE standard equipment to it including pouches. Just go to your local military surplus store and you can get anything you need to add. The nice thing about that is if we're not hiking it's a good harness and if we're hiking I can load him down.
