Hey SCA! Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the users who helped me out when I initially posted about my struggles with chest acne. As you can see, it was terrible. I hated taking my shirt off and the thought of the summer, full of times by the pool and beach trips made me physically sick. Now, after listening to some great advice, I feel so much better about my body and I can't say thank you enough.

My (very simple) routine if anyone is interested:

AM: Apply Cerave sunscreen

PM: Panoxyl 10% BP Foaming Wash

So I'll give some general skincare advice and some acne specific advice since many of the posters here are dealing with that. If the acne part isn't relevant, you can skip ahead.

Acne

Acne is caused by sebum (skin oil), the oil clogs pores and attracts bacteria, leading to inflammation, which causes pus formation and pimples. Tendency to develop acne is sometimes genetic, but you can still kill it.

Get the sebum under control first. Make sure you're washing your bedsheets and pillow cases regularly (at least once per week).

Wash you face twice daily with a gentle, non pope-clogging cleaner. You don't want to use harsh cleaner with fragrances because it makes inflammation worse. I used Cetaphil Daily when I had acne, it works great. Wash your face morning and night with the cleaner using your hands. Every few days or so, lightly use a washcloth to aid in using the cleaner. You want to exfoliate dead skin and gunk, but not inflame your skin. Do not use astringent products, EVER.

After washing your face, use Persa-Gel on your pimples. The stuff is no joke and it's been proven for decades.

General Skincare

For people that don't have acne or have it under control, you want exfoliating cleaner and moisturizer. I only use two products.

Body Merry Glycolic Acid Cleaner for the face and neck. I use it once per day about 4 times a week, but you might want to start out twice a week at first to build tolerance, it's a gentle acid. You want to scrub the product on gently with your hands. This shit will change your game, trust me.

For moisturizer, I use CeraVe Lotion. Rub a small amount onto your face and neck once per day morning or night after your face wash. If you'd rather use it at night or you don't need the sunscreen, I'd recommend getting the PM formulation at a drug store because it's super expensive on Amazon.

Nutrition

Not only are fruit and vegetables good for you and alleviate depressive feelings, but people that eat more fruits and veggies are objectively more attractive. The pigments from the veggies/fruits deposit in your skin and give you a glow that's similar, but more attractive than tanning. You don't have to go crazy, but try and implement sweet potatoes, berries, green leafy veggies and other produce into your diet. Ditch the soda period. Stay hydrated. Pick up a nice water bottle and use it like there's no tomorrow. Stay away from refined sugar and white bread as well, these things cause inflammation. Whole grain bread is your friend (and will also help you lose weight if needed).

Also you gotta control the heavy drinking. And if you smoke cigs, quit ASAP.

Hopefully this helps. I'm not a doctor but I have a science background and a degree in biological science from a well regarded school. Also I have a lot of Asian friends and a family who care about skincare. Good luck to you guys and keep me posted with any progress :)

I have combination skin.

I wash my face with Cetaphil Cleanser in the morning and then I put Shiseido Matifying Moisturizer, after that I put Biore Sunscreen (I'm still new to this product, I've been trying out alot of sunscreen products because my skin has been overly sensitive and for some reason I might be allergic to sunscreen lotion T_T), before this I just use Skin79 BB Cream and an umbrella whenever I go out, after the bb cream I put on shiseido foundation and then mascara and lip gloss.

For night: I use Neutrogena make up remover wipes, and then Pond's Cleanser, Thayer's Witch Hazel Toner and then Neutrogena Moisturizer And then Shiseido Eye Cream.

I also use Pierre Cardin Peeling Gel maybe 3 times a week after cleansing my face and then I put on Neutrogena Moisturizer, Shiseido Eyecream and then finish it with a Collagen Essense Mask.

Before and during from Nov 24 to Dec 31 of this (past) year. That's what a month of spiro did for me! (I'd been on Pocketderm for a couple of months prior.)

Better quality shots from all angles: November 22 and December 30.

Just dealing with PIH and the occasional pimple now!

Edit: Another user requested routines from everyone posting pictures, so I thought I'd oblige!

I can only use small particle physical exfoliants, but I know that a lot of people can't even use those. I often see those people trying to say "all physical exfoliants are bad" or something to that effect. Just because it destroys their skin doesn't mean it'll destroy mine.

Like this facewash that I picked up from amazon. It has menthol in it and it looked like I had chemical burns after using it, but a lot of people don't have a reaction to menthol even though it's supposedly irritating on all skin types. It just feels mildly cooling to them.

Product name: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Product type: water-based, non-foaming

Price (range):US$8-15 (depends on size, varies from store to store) smile.amazon.com/Cetaphil-Gentle-Cleanser-Combo-Facial/dp/B000FFT8KS/ (US$9.52 via Amazon)

Country of purchase: US

Skin info: Normal to dry skin that's easily irritated, acne-prone, pale w/ neutral olive undertones (FItzpatrick III, Caucasian), Baumann DSPW Ingredient list: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben

Special info: Fragrance-free, comes in a pump bottle (that's important info to me when looking for products, anyway)

Experience & opinion: I love this cleanser. I was a complete CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser devotee but converted to this after buying the travel size on a trip. While I still do love the CeraVe, this also keeps my sensitive skin hydrated without any filmy residue - and I think it helps keep my acne at bay a bit more. I was worried about the SLS, but I haven't had any irritation from this at all - it's been a great product and I've been using it regularly for almost a year now. My skin is clean without feeling stripped.

u/felix-felicis45 · 9 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

This one is only 2.5% so it is so gentle, but proven as effective as 10%. It is a cleanser with minimal ingredients. I have very reactive and very sensitive and very allergic skin, and I love this one.

Your face is a canvas and the make-up is like paint. Think about painting in layers if that helps.

That being said, here's my recommendation. You skin is your canvas so you gotta take care of it. Pay attention to your body/skin, everyone is different so use what is working for you. Exfoliate regularly, exfoliating helps clear up pores and scrub away dead skin. I do it daily, again do as much as your own skin needs to. My pores tend to clog easily so I try my best to keep it clean. I use something like this, just a slightly rougher bath sponge, squeeze a little face wash on it and lightly scrub - again this is what I do, your mileage may vary.

Regardless of how oily your skin is, moisturize it. If you have naturally oilier skin like me, use a lighter moisturizer (it feels lighter on your skin not as thick or creamy). conversely, use a heavier moisturizer if you tend to have dry skin. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "face moisturizer" product, lotions work also i've noticed. The point of all this is you want a clean and hydrated skin, it looks younger and healthier. I use, Aveeno's Men's After Shave Lotion. It get's two birds with one stone for me, aftershave plus helps keep my skin hydrated and is on the lighter side (won't feel greasy when it dries.)

The next layer in the painting would be concealer and foundation. Concealers are more pigmented "cover up" work. Using me again, i have slight rosatia/pinkness, concealers help neutralize out the redness to a more even skin tone. Foundation is a less pigmented but does the same thing essentially. Go to a Walgreen's or any drugstore and just look at the color samples. You'll want to color match to your neck so that your general face color blends in with your neck. Taking care of you skin takes time to get but when you get there you shouldn't need much concealer or foundation to even out your face. I like BB Cream No. 23, Natural Biege, matches my color fairly well.

You can pick either of those up or an equivalent product at any drugstore. People won't give you any grief, it's not too common but some males do buy coverup/concealers for acne breakouts so it shouldn't cause too much fuss to buy in person.

As far as applying blush, eyeshadow, liner brows ... the works, it's hard to type out and is best if shown to you. Beating a dead horse, watch the you tube videos and practice putting them on. You WILL get better. I did a quick look through amazon, this Shany Set seems like an okay kit. It has a various color pots to play/practice with. (color pot, the little containers that the actual make up sits in.) Your small round pots are your eyeshadows and the large round ones are your blushes. It looks like it comes with the applicators too, the fancy q-tip looking things are for eyeshadows and the bristle brush for blush. It also has the standard black and brown pencil eye liner, a pencil lip liner, lipstick and some nailpolish.

When it's all said and done, you've read all that you can or watched all the videos you've cared to watch. My best advice I can give you is take care of your skin and practice. Keep putting it on, get a feel for it and learn how certain things get applied. Eyeliner for example, you need to get used to the fact that there's something that close to your eye when you're trying to put it on. With time and practice it gets easier, your hand gets steadier and your eyes don't flinch as much.

Not my best nor my worst, but here's where i'm at on a typical day. http://i.imgur.com/C1vPsxg.jpg

Lastly, baby wipes or makeup remover wipes is good for taking it all off and these on a cotton swab is good to remove eyeliner without any trace.

Here are some that I found but haven’t tried:

Hanalei Papaya Powder Enzyme Face Cleanser (not AB)

  • Amazon link/reviews
  • Looks like a possible dupe for the Tosowoong powder! pH 5.5
  • Ingredients: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Paipan (Papaya Enzyme), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Extract, Collagen, Pollen Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Allantoin, Betaine, Sorbitol, Isopropyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Titanium Dioxide, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA

Fleur de Lis Naturals Rice and Papaya Enzyme Powder - Unscented (not AB)

  • Amazon link/reviews
  • This one contains no detergents or cleansing agents of any kind, so I’m not sure how effective this will be? pH unavailable, but all the ingredients look super gentle to me.
  • Ingredients: Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran, Papaya Extract, Coconut Milk, Red Algae Extract, Milk, Green Tea Extract, Camu Camu Extract, Spirulina.

    Has fragrance BUT....

SRB Stabilized Rice Bran Enzyme Powder Wash

  • Amazon link/reviews
  • pH 5.5! This has fragrance but all the Amazon reviews say it smells like rice bran / Cheerios, so here’s to hoping it’s a very minimal and non-irritating amount.

  • Ingredients: Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Pollen Extract, Allantoin, Collagen, Betaine, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sorbitol, Isopropyl Prlmitate, Asocorbyl Palmitate, Titanium Dioxide (CI77891), Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Papain, Fragrance

I was referred here by r/skincareaddiction.

I am traveling for six months in Asia and am running out of face wash about halfway through the trip. I currently use this face wash.

Skin Type: Fair, sensitive, prone to breakouts because of hormonal birth control.

Question: I will be in Hong Kong in about a week and would like to pick up another face wash. Can anyone recommend a face wash I would be able to fairly easily find in Hong Kong that is similar to the one I'm currently using?

Thanks for any suggestions!

u/Scoutbaybee · 7 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Ponds cold cream. It takes off all of my makeup, I put it on then use a damp wash cloth to gently wipe off. It is one of the only things I have tried that doesn't seem to just dry my skin out. the one I like

u/Elendira · 6 pointsr/popping

Tips:

If you want to remove them temporarily but immediately, pore strips are a good start.

Getting an extractor is also a good idea, but you must use it properly.

If you have terribly bad acne, consider a face wash with benzoyl peroxide. I really like PanOxyl, but keep in mind this depends on your skin type. Benzoyl peroxide is very helpful in getting rid of my acne, but it can be drying. I massage it into (only) my nose for about a minute and have noticed drastic results.

Consider using products that are "non-comedogenic," or don't clog pores, but keep in mind that not all acne is caused by pore clogging.

I was about to start a thread for skin care recs!!! Thanks OP.

More specifically, I was hoping for some tips/recs because I'm interested in building a "skincare routine." My skin has been pretty bleh lately. I'm going through some big changes right now so I imagine it's partially the stress and frequent crying (lol) but also partially because I'm getting older and not doing much for my skin. Right now all I do is cleanse and moisturize because I honestly don't know what else to do. I currently use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser (what a mouthful) which I like. Then I moisturize with CeraVe AM/PM - these are fine I guess but I don't love them, I only keep using them because a lot of moisturizers make my eyes burn and these do not (I've tried figuring out the cause for years now with no luck, it's not like I'm putting things IN my eyes lol).

Some other notes:
- Combination skin, but leaning more towards oily.
- Acne-prone, but not overwhelmingly so.
- Uneven skin tone from lots of bad breakouts as a teenager.
- Not sure if age matters when picking products, but I'm 27!
- Sorry if this is too picky, but I really don't like using products you have to scoop out of jars/tubs. I have long nails and products just get stuck under them hahah.

Sorry for the entire novel on my skin. I know it's asking a lot but if anyone could recommend some things I'd really appreciate it!

Awww, I know that feel completely.

I've never tried any Tatcha products, however... I have been in the market for an enzyme cleanser lately, and the one I'm looking at is often cited as a great dupe of the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Cleanser in the Amazon reviews- the SRB Stabilized Rice Bran Enzyme Cleanser, $25 on Amazon or Peach & Lily. I first saw this in a Liah Yoo video and I guess due to the kinda bland packaging it's not very popular, but the reviews on Amazon and Amabie are excellent. Apparently the product is extremely gentle and the ingredients list is pretty short, so it might be ideal for you. :)

https://www.amazon.com/Rice-Bran-Cleanses-Brightens-Exfoliates/dp/B01DZDIJSS

Honestly, I'm kind of an AB noob myself, because although I research many products, I don't really have that much $$ to spend on products and try them. Since you have sensitive skin, maybe try a balm cleanser? They're apparently very nourishing and the Banila Co Clean It Zero Sensitive formula has great reviews. Renee from Gothamista has also recommended the Heimish Cleansing Balm (it has donkey milk and she's butter, oh my gosh) and I believe her skin type is also dry-sensitive.

Looking at the ingredients in the serum and cream, they seem somewhat similar to the Nature Republic Royal Ginseng line, all the way from the rice, royal jelly, ginseng, sodium hyaluronate, and silk extracts to the 24k gold. This line is very expensive as well, but may be less problematic to you.

The top, likely active, ingredients in the Serum are Algae Extract and Rice Extract and in the cream the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate is the number 1 ingredient, so I think you should start looking for serums and creams high in those actives, as those are the highest concentrated ingredients in the Tatcha moisturizing products.

I couldn't find much with Algae Extract that was a moisturizer, except one Nature Republic Eye Cream, the Collagen dream eye cream.

https://www.amazon.com/NATUREREPUBLIC-Collagen-Dream-Cream-Korean/dp/B00H4HD25W

The second ingredient, the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, is very interesting because it actually used to be the active ingredient of the famous SK-II Essence, before it was replaced by the very similar Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate. This Ingredient is likely going to be much easier to find in an essence rather than a moisturizing cream. I know that the Missha First Treatment Essence has Saccharomyces but I'm also including a link/list of SK-II dupes that contain either Galactomyces or Saccharomyces as they are very similar, and because many of the other SK-II dupes are actually cheaper (the Missha is around $50), including the CosRx Galactomyces which is only $15.

http://musicalhouses.blogspot.com/2016/01/sk-ii-facial-treatment-essence-dupe.html?m=1

https://sokoglam.com/products/time-revolution-first-treatment-essence

https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Galactomyces-Whitening-Power-Essence/dp/B00OZE57XW

The last ingredient, Rice Extract, is present in an insane 65% potency in the CosRx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Mask, which is also a cult favorite on Reddit. And, it's less than $15.

https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Ultimate-Nourishing-Rice-Overnight/dp/B01518D84U

Lastly, I saw sodium hyaluronate, or hyaluronic acid, in both the serum and cream, so if I were you, I'd invest in the cult favorite, Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion. I have the Premium version, and it really is wonderful and leaves your skin firm and hydrated, and is a great way to get in extra moisture before your cream.
Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist, 5.7 fl. oz. (170ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EZa8ybAC6S473

A final note: since your skin is sensitive, I would stay away from any artificial fragrance or irritants in any products. Hada Labo and Cosrx are both fragrance free companies that only use what they need to make the product effective. Again, check your ingredients at CosDna as well as reviews. Also many of these products are available cheaper on some other websites, I just chose who came up first. Generally, SokoGlam is a safer bet than Amazon because you won't get a fake product, but it's also slightly more expensive.

I know this is a long post but I also know how daunting the search for good, affordable skincare can be. Also, don't forget to wear sunscreen. There's no point in getting so many products just to negate their effects with UVA damage.

Best of Luck! <3

What I have learned is the safest, most hard-to-go-wrong thing you can do is go for as gentle of a formula as you possibly can. My boyfriends brother used to get really, really bad acne. Covered his whole entire face. His dermatologist told him to switch to a gentle brand of soap/clenser to cleanse his face daily with. He asked if Purpose by Johnson&Johnson would do: https://www.amazon.com/Purpose-Gentle-Cleansing-6-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B0009RFAPY

because it was already a gentle soap they had laying around the house. She said it would be fine, and it has been great for him compared to the other soaps he has used. Obviously thats not all there is to it when it comes to his routine (it takes a lot to battle skin like his: cutting out milk and sugar, regular exfoliation, perscription medication), but it does help him, and since your skin isnt nearly as bad as his I think using a gentle soap might be sufficient to make a difference for you.

anyone using panoxyl: i wanted to try it for my back but unsure if i should get the foaming wash or the bar, which is best for body washing?

u/kokomocat · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

My acne is not as severe as yours, so I don't know if what I do would help you but we can give it a shot, right?

  • I use CeraVe Foaming Cleanser in both mornings and nights to wash my face
  • I don't use a BHA anymore
  • I do use AHA, Alpha Hydrox 10% Glycolic in both morning and night
  • I use a Salicylic Acid Peel 20% once a week, so far it has helped, I've only used it for two weeks
  • After the peel, I use a MBD Black Pearl mask, mainly because it's soothing and very moisturizing, which is perfect after a peel.
  • I moisturize with Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. People here vastly recommend CeraVe Moisturizing Cream because it has ceramides and it's pretty good.
  • For sunscreen, I tried Cetaphil Dermacontrol, it's too oily and I didn't like it because it stung my eyes. I tried L'Oreal Ideal Moisture with SPF, didn't like it because it was heavy. I tried both Biore Aqua Rich and Biore Perfect Face Milk I loved both thoroughly; they are light, milky, smooth, they feel great on the skin and stay matte like it's nobodies business.
  • I use the Thayer Cucumber Witch Hazel toner. No reason in special for the cucumber aside from me loving how it smells. It has helped me some with redness and inflammation.

My routine is as it follows:

    AM

  • Cleanse with CeraVe
  • Apply Witch Hazel toner
  • After it dries, apply AHA, wait for it to absorb 20 min
  • Apply Cetaphil Moisturizer
  • Apply sunscreen
  • Makeup if any

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    PM

  • Remove makeup and sunscreen with Pond's Cold Cream cleanser
  • Wash with CeraVe
  • Apply witch hazel
  • Apply AHA
  • Moisturize

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Every Friday night each week

  • Wash with CeraVe
  • Clean face with rubbing alcohol (my face is super oily)
  • Apply Salicylic acid peel for 2:00 min
  • Rinse acid
  • Apply my beauty diary sheet mask for 20 min
  • Moisturize with Cetaphil
  • Apply thin layer of Aquaphor

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

And that's it, my skin has gotten way better and something that has also helped millions is that I went on the pill, since my acne is hormonal.

Remember to patch test and to not abuse your skin, the gentler the better!!!! There are things that might or might not work for you, it takes a while to find what's best for your skin. If nothing works, you can always try PocketDerm or a dermatologist around your area, don't be afraid to ask for professional help. Good luck!

u/Aevum1 · 3 pointsr/wicked_edge

First get rid of the Acne...

wash your face when you wake up, in the afternoon and at night, use a face oriented soap, if you have greasy skin a clay soap might be good, Clearasil is decent, Clinique is good but some people might feel weird about paying 13 bucks for a bar of soap Also the Tea tree oil clenser from the body shop is good.

A good moistorizing cream to reduce pore size after you wash your face, and a toner based on witch hazel,

With a good routine it should reduce your acne in no time.

I can't agree more.

Accutane is a calculated risk. The side effects can be really, really terrible for sure. I trusted my dermatologist completely because of his experience and I also read and weighed the consequences with my parents when I was 14 or so. I haven't yet had any lasting problems arise, but we'll see. It was a last resort for me.

Also, I cannot recommend this face wash enough:

Those are 2 different products, the first is from the Toleriane line which is meant for people with sensitive/reactive skin. The second is from the Effaclar line which is meant for acne prone skin.

I use the effaclar cleanser you linked and I love it to pieces as it has never irritated my skin despite the fact I have very reactive skin.

There are other Toleriane cleansers on amazon italia, if you want to stay within that line. https://www.amazon.it/Toleriane-Purifying-Foaming-Cleanser-Normal/dp/B01N34XW93 That was the one you wanted, but it doesn’t seem to be available and I didn’t see it on LRP’s Italian site so I presume they are no longer producing it.

Honestly, Shoppers Life Brand version of Spectro Gel is amazing - not drying at all and cleans well. I find Spectro has too much silica in it. For cleansing oil I like the Kose oils - this one is really nice, cleans well and rinses off well too.

u/kbtennI · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I would recommend Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser if you don't have any general problems with your skin. Its important to pick your cleanser and any other products based on your skin type (normal, oily, dry). The one I recommended is for normal skin and is very gentle. If you don't have many problems stay with gentle rather than something that can irritate your skin -- for you, you probably just want to make sure you get rid of the dirt from the day. Definitely don't overdo it with exfoliants etc. unless you Need that. Otherwise you will just irritate your skin and be prone to more breakouts.

But it seems your general problem is that one spot.. and I can't emphasize going to a dermatologist enough. If you're saying its been months, I'm going to assume it never comes to a head and drains properly... so its deep and you need something specialized. You can try anti-inflammatory pills (ibuprofin) or soothing materials (cucumber) to help reduce the redness in the meantime.. but those aren't going to get rid of it. Ask for an emergency appointment because I've waited months to get an appointment before and you want to bite this before you become lethargic again and cancel (I know the feeling)

Cetaphil also has a good spf moisturizer, and many people have different moisturizers at night than their spf daytime one, because the spf doesn't help at night

Ah I made a post but perhaps it is better to just comment here instead

I'm a guy in his mid 20s and my current routine is REALLY simple but has some problems and I would also like to expand it a bit...

Current routine:

AM - Wash face, Apply lotion, Put on tinted sunblock (need it cus of darker skin)

PM - Same as AM sans the sunblock and using St Ives exfloiating pad (AHA) before applying lotion.

So off the bat there are two problems with my routine. First is that there are days when I go to the gym mid-day which requires a shower. Problem with this is that I must wash my face 3 times on certain days (how else would I remove the sunblock?). Second is that I shave using a double-edge razor which actually serves to exfoliate the parts of my face that I shave so what ends up happening is that my entire face is not being exfoliated equally (my cheek look so much better than my forehead), I have no idea how I would go about solving this... It should be noted that I do not use the St Ives pads on night when I shave (I shave every other day).

I want to change my routine to account for these two issues while also expanding it a bit to lessen stuff like wrinkles and dark spots (my complexion sucks, esp my forehead).

I was looking at some products and found some that looks promising? interesting? but honestly, I'm not too experienced in this area...

For the eyes

For the wrinkles

Possible regular moisturizers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

You can see that I prefer gel moisturizers because I don't like that feeling of putting on lotion and my face being sticky even after like an hour (Aveeno does this).

Face wash - my current face wash isn't sustainable (kinda niche) and it doesn't wash away my sunblock all that well either... I had the same problem with SCA's favorite Cerave hydrating cleanser.

I can't say I've noticed real improvement from using St Ives's pads? Not sure if I want to try anything stronger though because I am bad with sunblock reapplication.

Even the sunblock is not the best because it has such a strong flowery smell. But I need a lightly tinted one to not look like a ghost... Hmm maybe this one?

u/iamlunasol · 3 pointsr/muacjdiscussion

I use vaseline to remove eye makeup. Extra bonus because it can help your lashes grow. For the rest of my makeup I use this cleansing oil. It eats through it all so fast.

I have Hashimoto's and really dry skin (my scalp is horrible, too). The digestive issues could be a factor, if you're not really absorbing nutrients properly. Paleo is good for you, in-general, but I think it moreso works with "clearing up" skin, like with acne, rosacea, and so-on. I recently started getting into Asian skincare, as they focus on lots of light layers of hydration. My skin used to scale and flake, but now it's nice and soft!

I use a low PH face wash only once a day. Too much cleansing can rid your skin of it's natural oils. I swap between this Cerave cleanser and this Hada Labo one. Then I use this lotion (which is more of like a serum) and this gel moisturizer.

I'd suggest reading into the science behind humectants, occlusives, and emollients. Example, you can use a lotion, but if it doesn't have any type of occlusive ingredients, the product and all the moisture will just evaporate/dissipate; it needs something to seal it in. And as much as Asian skincare seems like a million steps, you can really work with just 3 or so products.

Hi there! I also struggle with sensitive skin, and as a result I have problems with dandruff, oily skin (especially on the face), acne, acne scars, and eczema. Sensitive skin runs in my family (I'm Irish). So, I will give you a personal remedy that I developed over the last year that significantly reduced these problems.

I got some good initial information from this thread in /r/malefashionadvice. I use most of the products that he mentions there, my personal favorites being the cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash and the cetaphil dermacontrol moisturizer SPF 30.

For starters, it is important to get in a good skincare routine. I was always busy in high school and told myself that I didn't have time to waste taking care of my face. It wasn't until college that I realized my lack of skincare was really inhibiting my ability to feel confident, so that's when I decided I needed to get into a good routine. I started out by washing my face three times a day, and making sure I drink at least half a gallon of water throughout the day. Skin becomes oily when it is dehydrated, and drinking water is a good initial step to keeping it from being dehydrated.

I didn't really solidify my routine until I stumbled upon the /r/malefashionadvice skincare thread. It all depends on what works for your skin type, but for my oily sensitive skin, this is what I found works best:

  • I wash my face three times a day, once in the morning and afternoon each with cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, and before bed with the cetaphil dermacontrol foam wash.

  • Each time after washing my face, I also apply the Dickinson's witch hazel pore perfecting toner. It's a lot harder to find than the cetaphil products (I just picked those up from walgreens), but it is definitely worth it. I've tried two or three other toners and all of them left my skin very oily and irritated. It smells a little off, but it's not really a lingering smell

  • After the toner has set in, I apply cetaphil dermacontrol moisturizer SPF 30. I'll also apply this throughout the day if I'm outside a lot. It helps control the sheen of my skin by keeping it moisturized. Make sure you wash your hands with soap and water before putting this on because you do not want dirt getting into your pores!

  • To get rid of the stubborn blackheads that won't go away, I use pore strips about once a week.

  • I wash my pillowcase once a week and my bedsheets every two weeks. Every night sweat and dirt and dead skin comes off of your face and hair and goes into your pillowcase and bedsheets. Keep them clean so your face has a nice sanitary place to rest for 8 hours every night.

  • I also wash my towels once a week. I have four that I cycle throughout the week (one every two days). Washing your towels is just as important as washing your pillowcase/bedsheets because they are supposed to wipe away the dirt in your face, so if you don't wash them regularly, that dirt just accumulates and goes back into your pores.

After finally getting into a good facial skincare routine, I started having problems with excema and dandruff. I fortunately had a routine physical with my doctor where I asked him what I could do about these problems. This is where you may disagree with me, but he told me that I should not shower more than once a week. As I mentioned earlier, skin becomes oily/irritated when it is dehydrated, and one of the easiest ways to dehydrate your skin is excessive bathing. The doctor told me to shower once a week and more importantly to not use soap on areas besides the face, armpits, and genitals.

I told my doctor that I shower everyday because I go to the gym and sweat furiously. He told me to just take a quick rinse after the gym to wipe the sweat off, and to apply lotion daily. I apply Jergen's Ultra Healing lotion once every night before bed.

As for dandruff, this is where you may need to look elsewhere. While I do have dandruff, it's not much of a problem for me simply because it isn't very severe. I wash my hair three or four times a week with Dove Men + Care Sensitive Scalp. Since I don't shower, I usually just do this before bed by getting my hair wet in the shower, scrubbing the shampoo in vigorously with my fingers, then washing it out while also massaging my scalp. If that product doesn't work for you, you can't go wrong with some Head & Shoulders.

I hope this helps you, let me know if you think there's anything I left out!

    EDIT: added towel-washing regimen

Buddy, you need to exfoliate. Get a backscrub towel. I recommend using it with a salicylic acid cleanser like Neutrogena Salicylic Acid Wash. You can get both at any drug store, big box store or beauty supply shop

If your skin can handle it, I recommend the Korean Italy towels. Get them at a Korean store where they'll be way cheaper. These you don't use with cleanser. You use them after your skin has been wet for a few minutes, then you scrub away. You'll see bits of skin flaking off. But it can make your skin feel dry and itchy because you're taking off layers of skin. I recommend doing this only once a week and not before you'll be out in direct sunlight. You can make it a little less intense by adding a cleanser like the one above so it will be a little slippery.

Whatever method you use, don't scrub too hard.

Personally I use both methods. I had bad bacne when I was a teen, and if I don't shower immediately after a workout, I'll start to break out. These methods work wonders for me.

Hope it works for you, too!

I have sensitive skin so these might be too mild for you, but I wash my face with purpose gentle cleansing wash. I find a lot of face soaps are intended for oily or combo skin and irritate my face, but this one is gentle, does its job, and keeps my skin clear.

I moisturize every morning with nivea soft moisturizing creme I'm not sure if it will be hydrating enough for your case, but I swear by this stuff.

It might be worth putting on vaseline at night, as a lot of moisturizers have alcohol in them and can make dry patches worse!

EDIT: Forgot to include makeup I like. I really love Maybelline's bb cream, also their Fit me Dewy Foundation but unfortunately I am allergic to one ingredient in this foundation and it makes me break out. Might work for you! Loreal True Match Lumi is also a really good drug store foundation for dry skin, it's medium coverage though.

High end foundation I like is Lancome Teint Idole when I need lots of coverage or don't want to look dewy. I have to apply this with a damp beauty sponge though or it won't go on well. I use Real Technique's Sponge but most drug store sponges have gotten better in quality! I would recommend getting one of these and using it to apply every foundation you try as you will probably have better results than with a brush!

AM - Use any gentle face wash, however I recommend this Neutrogena one, works like a charm. Then I use my AM CeraVe Moisturizer and that’s it.

And in the PM - Use any gentle face wash, however I recommend this Neutrogena one, then I use my PM Moisturizer and a layer of Vaseline as an occlusive on top of that. I don’t recommend using Vaseline during your am routine unless you wanna be shiny all day.

My skin stays moist and never peels during the day, I recommend this routine.

Just realized this wasn’t a product recommendation thread..

I literally haven't been using anything on my face in the last month or two, I wash it twice a day once when I wake up and the once before I go to bed. I used to use This once a day and then moistrose after, but it just dried out my skin completly and made it tight and peeling.. I ordered from amazon today some benzoyl peroxide gel but now I'm not too sure it won't just do the same.

u/tangiblycat · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I use a generic version of the makeup eraser cloth. It works surprisingly well but you have to be careful not to scrub too hard. Use warm water and put enough water on it. I also use a cleansing oil to wash my face first, which claims it is OK for eye makeup but boy does it sting if I get it in my eyes. The washcloth is better at removing mascara and such anyways.

Seriously works wonders. But like pasadenawedding alluded to, it can be very drying so it isn't something I use consistently. I used to work at Walgreens and people came in all the time from the Dermatologist looking for this (and Walgreens has a generic one that is cheaper).

Not sure if I'm experiencing dehydrated skin or just oily skin- or both! I would appreciate some help figuring out some next steps for my routine. Concerns: I have large pores, a few acne spots on hairline/jawline, and a lotta oil on most parts of my face by the end of the day. I want to make sure that I am properly hydrated and reducing the oil.

Routine:

AM:

Cleanse with Cerave foaming cleanser- (lately it has been making me feel a little tight. Is the next move to go to a non-foaming cleanser?)

Moisturize- light layer of Cerave in the tub (I feel like this soaks in well, but I'm oily within an hour or so, does this mean I need to adjust moisturizer? Would this be a place to add a serum/hydrating toner?

SPF- currently none, chemical SPF hurts my skin and mineral all looks white. I also currently work inside and leave for work when it is dark and get home when it is dark :-(

PM:

If I wear makeup I will use Neutrogena Light Cleansing Oil- I really like this product!

2nd cleanse- Cerave foaming cleanser (this is the step when I have started to notice the Cerave feeling tight the most)

BHA- Paula's Choice 2% Salicylic Acid (I pat on with my fingers)

Moisturize- thick layer of Cerave in the tub, sometimes doubling up on my T-zone to make sure I'm hydrated

Based on this routine do you think my oily skin is still dehydrated? What adjustments can I make to reduce oil production? Thank you!

u/pinesapped · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Hello folks! I was hoping for some help on my routine. My skin is okay, but I struggle with hormonal acne, am 28 years old, and generally feel greasy at the end of the day. I don't wear makeup because it makes my acne worse, so I don't have to worry about that. I have combination skin (chin and jawline dry, oily everywhere else).

Morning:

Cleanser: Trader Joe's All-In-One

Toner: Witch Hazel

Serum: Birch Juice Hydro Essence Skin

Vitamin C Serum

Moisturizer: Trader Joe's Nourish Oil-Free

Sunscreen: Neutrogena Clear Face

Evening:

Cleanser: Trader Joe's All-In-One

Mask (2x per week): Aztec Secret (used with ACV)

Toner: Witch Hazel

Serum: Birch Juice Hydro Essence Skin

Retinal: The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane

Sheet mask (2x week when I use a mask): Whatever is hydrating at CVS

Moisturizer: Trader Joe's Nourish Oil-Free

I have done my absolute best to try to figure out if this is an okay group of products, but skincare is as incomprehensible as finances to me so some help would be appreciated!

My "progress" pics

I moved to Germany in August, in September I starting breaking out like I did at 14 years old, and in October I got serious about clearing up.

Morning:

Wash with Cetaphil

Moisturize with Mary Kay formula 2

Night:

Wipe with B. Pure Micellar Water

Wash with Cetaphil

Use Pocketderm

Moisturize with Markay

Take Yasmin BC

My mother is an angel and is sending some of my products from the USA. My Pocketderm is 4% Niacinamide, 1% Clindamycin, 4% Azeliac Acid, but my new prescription will be .018% Tretinoin, 1% Clindamycin, 4% Azeliac Acid.

Also, I think I start PC 2% lotion and switch to Cetaphil Dermacontrol Moisturizer SPF 30. The Mary Kay was just the first face lotion that I didn't hate, and I just got stuck on it.

I switched to Yasmin about a month ago from a BC that uses Nogestrel (ugh, how could I have been so wrong with that for so long), and started uses the micellar water about a week ago. I'm suspicious that Yasmin gives me the large cyst-like acne on my jaw and neck since it started about the same time as I began the perscription. I've always had pretty moderate to severe acne since I'm been a teen, but even this is unusual for me. I'm touching my face less, washing my bedding often with a kind of free and clear soap, picking
less* (guilty), and cutting out dairy.

I'm definitely going to stick it out and try to improve my routine, but I just feel like everything I knew about acne care was soooo wrong. I welcome all ideas, and even wild speculations, about what is happening to my face.

u/scarieb · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Well, everyone's skin reacts differently but I'll let you know what I've used and had success with.

The Face Shop Light Cleansing Oil - really great and affordable for starting out w/ a cleansing oil

Pond's Cold Cream - love but required me to use microfiber wash cloths and made too much laundry because it didn't emulsify and rinse easily

Fresh Seaberry Cleansing Oil - currently using but I bought some off eBay bc of the cost

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm - probably what I will try next; receives a lot of love around this sub

Yeah, it was a bit of a disappointment. I had high hopes :( I'm using [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Hada-Labo-Hydrating-Facial-Cleanser/dp/B00I4BUV06) version of the HL. I've read some people find it to be more hydrating, but I haven't tried your version so I couldn't really tell you if it would be worth a switch.

Another option could be the Hada Labo ES Foam Wash perhaps

Hi guys, I've been loving AB for about a year now but I haven't stuck to one routine for more than a few months at a time, mainly due to travel and addiction to trying new things 😅 I'm sorry for the epic novel to follow, skip to the bottom if you want. I'm just so tired of dealing with crap skin!

I've had a horrible breakout in the last few months on my back that I can't seem to shake. I don't know why. I got back on the pill after being off it for several months in the hopes of fixing the breakout; it's helping a little but I'm only just starting my second month back on the pill so it might take a while to see results.

Of more concern to me is a new cystic breakout along my jawline--I haven't had such sore acne in years. I'm 19 and I've gotten my acne a lot better under control thanks to the pill and PocketDerm (don't like the name Curology lol) but I've dealt with it in varying forms of severity since like 6th grade.

Before the cysts (bear with me here!) were all these closed comedones, as well as tiny white marks on my face--some raised, some not--which are either CCs or scars, I'm not sure. I plan to eventually get laser treatment because I hate the texture of my skin and all the PIH I have but I want to make sure I'm stopping new breakouts before I spend a ton of money on treating old scars.

So basically I've stripped down my routine to complete, tried and true basics in the hopes of not irritating my skin and making sure nothing's breaking me out. And yet I have like three whiteheads on one side of my face near my mouth and cystic acne on my jawline and near my temples. Nothing has changed in my lifestyle, I haven't added anything new to my routine...please give me any ideas or product suggestions!

TLDR my skin is somewhat freaking out, may be hormonal but I want help setting up a routine to help my moisture barrier, acne, and PIH

I bought it in Japan, so I don't have experience buying it online, but a quick search brings up some of the products on Amazon!

I have the lotion (there are 2 types but I only see one here), milk, and a sample of the foaming wash, and I highly recommend all of them!

I also started off with the trial kit before I bought the full sized bottles, it comes with smaller bottles of the makeup remover, foaming wash, toner, and lotion.

One of my favorites for marathon sessions is not actually a real lube, but it is a classic: Albolene. It is too expensive on Amazon (because it seems to be a weight loss rub in some circles). It is really just a moisturizing makeup remover. I usually buy it on sale from Walgreen's. Last time I bought four jars in a buy one get one and the cashier gave me a knowing smile. Coconut oil is good too, and smells fantastic. But for less than 40 minutes, I use J-Lube or Astroglide. They are water based yet don't dry as sticky as most water based lubes.

Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser is the one people refer to.

It changed formulation about a year ago and a bunch of people who used to use it have problems with it now. I personally LOVE it, have no issues, and I use it nearly every night in conjunction with Cerave cleanser as a 2-step cleansing to get my skin clean of makeup and sunscreen. But like I said, if you're acne prone, patch test the shit out of it. One cheek or part of your forehead or your chin for like two weeks, just to make sure.

Also don't use it as a leave-on moisturizer. Apply a layer, wait for a few min, then wipe it off with a damp cloth and follow with a cleanser. It can be used as a leave-on face cream but I think it's not very good for that use.

u/ms_kittyfantastico · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

neutrogena oil free acne wash I got it at target and it’s simple and been helping. It’s nothing fancy though.

u/spaceballsrules · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Once or twice a week, exfoliate your head/face/neck with St Ives Apricot Scrub (2% salicylic acid) in the shower and finish by toning with witch hazel. I use Thayer's, but you can get plain generic witch hazel just about anywhere, like Target. Just be sure it is alcohol free, and a little goes a long way. Exfoliating will clean out the pores, and toning will close them back up so that dirt can't easily get back in, as well as moisturize.

Other than that, just wash with soap and water 2-3 times per day, including shower. You may want to get a daily face soap, like Cetaphil.

u/PippyPeppers · 1 pointr/malegrooming

I'd drop shampoo altogether, use conditioner. Massage your scalp gently but thoroughly with your finger tips. If your hair is long, be sure to gently smooth the conditioner through it. As for your skin, try different body washes. I like: http://www.amazon.com/Body-Shop-Tea-Tree-Wash/dp/B002K8W1UC/ref=sr_1_26?ie=UTF8&qid=1319231490&sr=8-26 and http://www.amazon.com/Body-Shop-Clearing-Facial-Regular/dp/B002K8W58K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319231477&sr=8-1 . Look up the ingredients, they're pretty good. After you shower toss on some of this, http://www.amazon.com/Desert-Essence-Organic-Jojoba-4-Ounce/dp/B0000C0XL8/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1319231537&sr=1-1 . BarefootNick is also right, drink a lot of water. The less chemicals you toss in your body the better off you are. Good luck bud.

Edit: Also remember, everyone is different. What may help Derp may not help Derpina.

u/rudegirlmakeup · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Those should be fine to combine. If you choose to try multiple, you may want to stagger them out to get a feel for which works best for you, since everyone's skin is its own special little snowflake. Or you can YOLO it and pile them all on, if you want.

Vitamin C does help (I really like the OST C20), and AHA/BHA exfoliants help fade hyperpigmentation spots. However, you have to be careful with those because they can mess up your skin if you overuse them. So I wouldn't jump in with them until you know your skin's in good enough shape to take harsher products.

It's generally recommended to reapply sunscreen every two hours if you're getting constant sun exposure or being active. If you're inside most of the day (away from windows, or with coated windows) and not sweating a lot, though, you are probably okay.

Oh yeah, and wash your face at the end of the day if you use sunscreen. Sunscreens are formulated to stay on your face for a while, so an oil cleanser will break them down. (This cleansing oil supposedly has a whitening effect, but I don't see any ingredients that would make that happen.)

u/Icedcoffeeee · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

My skin is really sensitive too and I started treating my acne with "internal" products for this reason.

Birth control, spirolactone, doxycycline. I try to use a this BP face wash once or twice a week, it's ok since it's not a leave on product, but I can't use it often.

Hi there. So I would start really simple - cleanser, toner, moisturizer in the AM and PM. I can recommend you some products since I also have oily acne-prone skin, but the unfortunate reality is that what works for some people doesn't work for others. You're probably going to have to experiment with it yourself. Also most of the products I use aren't available in the US (German brand).

A couple of pointers when it comes to ingredients in those products:

- avoid anything with silicones (they usually end in -cone on the ingredient list)
- avoid non-fatty alcohols (usually it just says alcohol or alcohol denat. or ethanol in the ingredient lists). They're gonna be really drying.
- fatty alcohols (like cetyl alcohol) are good though
- avoid perfum (can irritate skin - sometimes it's hard to avoid though and personally it's not high on my priority list)
- since you have some acne and oily skin I would avoid oils and comedogenic ingredients such as coconut derivatives and butters

Since you don't have a lot of experience with skincare yet, I would keep it simple at first - if your skin doesn't clear up you might want to use a product with salicylic acid or other acne-fighting ingredients at some point, but as I said I would ease into it by just using a simple routine first.

For cleanser I would recommend first only using it at night. Only use it in the morning if you feel overly greasy, you don't want to strip your skin too much. Some cleanser recommendations from the wiki (any of these should work fine for your skin):

I've been having a good experience with Purpose Gentle Face Wash. I was using Neutrogena Ultra Gentle and Aveeno Ultra Calming, Olay Sensitive, but none of them worked really well.
I found most of them too stripping.

Purpose seems to be holding up really well - I like the feel of it. It's slippery/foamy, and slides right off my skin with no residue. It's okay at removing makeup, not the best, but it does the trick for my light foundation. Not so much for my eyeliner. I got mine at CVS, so I think its a pretty common facial cleanser for drugstores.

u/shelvedfiction · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have the same issues.

You listed that you do not use sunscreen, but if you wear make up, I recommend oil cleansing, that usually helps prevent your skin from over drying, or others have mentioned adding a small amount of oil to your cleanser.

You mentioned non-foaming, but I have heard others on /r/asianbeauty have recommended Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam or Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating cleanser and said these did not dry them out.

One's that I have tried and that did not dry me out:

Foaming-ish...more like bubbles (all have a ph around 5.5):
Eucerin Baby Wash
Cerave Baby Wash
Skin Fix Cleansing Oil Wash

Non-foaming/Oil Cleansers:

For your CC's, try an AHA, but I would be careful using is with tretinoin because it might really dry you out. You could use it just on the spots where you have CC's or alternate using it with your tretinoin.

A few more questions - is something labeled as a facial wash the same thing as a cleanser? For reference, I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Body-Shop-Tree-Clearing-Facial/dp/B002K8W58K/ref=pd_bxgy_194_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002K8W58K&pd_rd_r=6DD51VRF1XWWTHSSR5AV&pd_rd_w=j1PmK&pd_rd_wg=56bzD&psc=1&refRID=6DD51VRF1XWWTHSSR5AV

with the mattifying lotion also by The Body shop as moisturizer. Also, how important is incorporating sunscreen into your routine?

Me personally, I use cleansing oils. I used the hydrating makeup remover wipes from Neutrogena for years before I found cleansing oils. I tried micellular water and I’m not a fan. I don’t like the tugging feeling of cotton on my face and I didn’t feel like it removed all of my makeup.

Cleansing oils on dry skin followed by gentle cleanser has been amazing for me. I use the hydrating cleanser by La Roche Posay and it’s HG for me. Love love love it.

For cleansing oils, I’m still in the process of finding my HG. I have used the neutrogena one and wasn’t a big fan. I tried the one by Simple and also wasn’t a huge fan. So far Burts Bees oil has been my favorite. Trader Joe’s sells an exact dupe for $6. That one is nice too. Also, The Face Shop sells one that is really light. I got it on amazon and I’ve been using that for the last month or so. I actually just picked up a new one today made by Palmers. So I’m gonna try that out tonight. Links ;

Is Lauric Acid in skincare safe to use? Because on CosDNA it says it's harmful to acne. (The product I want to buy is the Neogen Real Fresh Foam Green Tea ) So I was just wondering..
Also please recommend any water based cleansers~ ;-; Thank you!

Since your already used benzoyl peroxide you know isn’t very drying, so a very moisturizing moisturizer is needed as well as sunscreen as benzoyl peroxide is photosensitive

So I'm still new to this stuff. Basically looking to change up my routine as it doesn't seem to be working. Recently my face has been breaking out more than usual and I feel horrible about it that I feel bad even leaving the house. I can't afford a dermatologist so I'm hoping I could get some help here.

I'm about 23/M and I started my small skincare routine about two months back with my sister's help.. I think I have a dehydrated & blemish prone skin profile (see pics below) :l

Pic 1 | Pic 2

Morning:

- Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

Evening: (before bed)

- Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser

- Perfectly Pure Rose & Witch Hazel Toner

- St. Ives Renewing Collagen & Elastin Moisturizer

Occasionally:

- Queen Helene Gentle Oatmeal 'n Honey Natural Facial Scrub (3-4 times a week)

- Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay (once a week)

Thanks in advance

Kind of a late reply here, but try the es version of the face wash: http://www.amazon.ca/Hada-Labo-Facial-Foaming-japan/dp/B003ZDPEXW It's formulated for sensitive/troubled skin typs and I found it tolerable, while finding the regular Gokujyun version extremely drying.

Oooo after getting engaged, I was finally motivated to "treat" myself to a skincare routine. Honestly the two biggest things have been lotion (CeraVe) and sunscreen (Watery Essence). The routine starts at "night" in my mind:

u/ders89 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

i have pores so large theyre visible from a decent distance away. Is there a way to decrease their size? I currently use Cetaphil Daily Cleanser twice a day. Once in the morning, once at night before bed. Both in the shower. I periodically wash my face throughout the day but if i miss once chance to get rid of grease i immediately break out within 12 hours. I've tried Proactiv a long time ago, I've tried Clean and Clear spot treatment, Clean and Clear oil absorbing sheets, which works pretty well, i just ran out. Sebamed clear face gel, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch Sunscreen, SPF 30, and even Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, For all skin types and theyve ALL made me breakout except the Cetaphil daily cleanser Normal to Oily skin...

Now i've used all these products at random times... not all on the same. I've really been actively trying to get this under control since late 2014. So each time something makes me breakout, i'll try a new product.. At one time I was using (per the suggestion of a beauty stylist) to use cetaphil daily cleanser, Sebamed face gel, and then Neutrogena Ultra sheer Sunscreen in the morning to get me ready for the day. Then use the absorbing sheets throughout the day to maintain a clean face. Not get any dirt in my pores.

So thats the story... if someone, ANYONE can help me, I would appreciate it so much. If i really need to see a dermatologist, i guess thats my last resort. I really like to try all options before seeing a doc. Please let me know if you can help out. It's greatly appreciated!!!

I have the same type of skin. Very dry and sensitive (I have eczema) and yet terribly prone to acne.

I use the most mild cleanser I can find. I've been using Trader Joe's Nourish All-In-One Facial Cleanser for a few years now.

Then I use the regular old Stridex in the red box, but only every other day AT MOST. (salicylic acid, not bp) It helps control my acne but is too drying when I use it more than that.

Then I alternate days with Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel and Paula's Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol. (I used to use them both every night, but recently learned that using an AHA and a retinol at the same time doesn't allow each to be effective. No, I don't know the science behind it, but I read it here or on /r/SkincareAddiction or something)

I moisturize with Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, which is a freaking miracle cream - I would recommend this to anyone and everyone - It's not greasy, it absorbs quickly, it makes my dry icky skin feel like velvet. And it's so mild - No matter how dry, cracked and broken my skin is, it never burns or stings.

If I'm dryer than usual, sometimes I use argan oil (plain, 100% argan oil with nothing added.)

Hope that helps.

This cleanser does a pretty good job with oily skin and doesn't leave the skin too dry afterwards.

Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser .

There are two versions, one is like a cream cleanser and the other is a foaming kind.

u/Netflix4lfe · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

I used to have the worst dry skin and honestly, some foundations do make it worse but if your base is good you can wear pretty much anything.

What changed the game for me:

  • Purpose Face soap, its gentle and it got rid of my flakes. I can hardly use any face washes, it was recommended to me and I feel I need to pass it on!

  • Vaseline at night! Its my jam! Its so slimey and gross feeling, but it "holds" in moisture over night and makes my skin feel wonderful in the morning.

  • Wayne Goss Method Basically, I do moisturizer (no primer, because my skin doesnt care for any I've tried, and this method does make my foundation last all day alone) then powder, then foundation. I think its really super for dry skin because a good moisturizer is a real solid part of this, and the foundation isnt really touching your skin (back to my, "use whatever you want" comment)
For the powder, I use WnW Reserve your cabana, it's a matte highlight but it's finely milled and having the slight highlight under my foundation makes me look really naturally lit from within. My husband noticed immediately and said I looked luminous; it's a pretty awesome thing to try.

To specifically answer the foundation question, I really like the original L'Oreal True Match in the little bottle. Its very smooth, its a rare yellow drugstore option (if you need that), and it looks really natural. I'm a convert, and it's cheap /shrug

New to Reddit so I apologize in advance if my post looks a bit off.

My first AB purchase was a bottle of Kose White cleansing oil on Oct 1st that I bought off Amazon from the seller Samurai Japan and it finally came last Tuesday. My bottle looks just like the Amazon listing picture.
https://www.amazon.com/KOSE-Softy-White-Cleansing-Pound/dp/B000V2FB7Y/
I'm having trouble getting it to emulsify and wash off clean.I apply 1-2 pumps dry as an oil, massage, and when I add water it turns into a sticky white mess. It feels like trying to wash off a thick layer of Vaseline with water. The only way I have managed to get it off is to wipe it onto a washcloth or a paper towel. I have tried wetting my hands to just add a little water to emulsify and I have tried going all in straight to washing my face both to the same result. I have also tried shaking the bottle. In addition, I have tried adding the cleansing oil to wet hands and it does turn milky and wash off but in between my fingers, which were not as wet, it became the white glue. I have pictures if it helps of my right hand when I applied it dry then added water and it turned white and sticky and of my left hand where I added the oil straight to wet hands and this looks how I believe it should look, milky and non-sticky.
http://imgur.com/a/1xPM0

I haven't been able to find other threads where people have had the same problem so are there any tips to getting this cleansing oil to emulsify, or is it because it spent too long in customs, or did I just get a bad bottle? Thanks for the help.

I use this Neautrogena face wash and love it - It's a gentle cleanser and gets all my makeup off / face clean with no bad side effects!

u/altthymes · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Hmm I'm not sure, but this is the one I buy. I have not noticed a strong scent and I am fairly sensitive to that. I couldn't use Neutrogena Gentle Foaming because the fragrance was too intense for me.

u/tlz81389 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Can anyone give me tips or advice on my current routine?

Morning:

  • in the shower i use this cetaphil oil control cleanser

  • Then after shower I use Burt's Bees tomato toner (contains alcohol)

  • Then I use clean and clear oil free moisturizer

The problem is that I'm still getting a lot of oil on my skin throughout the day. More than I'd like.

I plan to replace the toner and moisturizer with the Thayers Rose Petal Toner and Sebamed Clear face care moisturizer, respectively. What do you all think about the cleanser though?

    Night:

  • Before bed I use Burt's bees cleansing towelettes (I have tried the grapefruit and the peach one which says exfoliating) and then i do toner/moisturizer before bed. Any thoughts on these, and which may be best? they have a few diff kinds

Also going to keep my pillow cases clean and swap them out when they get dirty.

Thoughts/tips/critiques would be appreciated. I am a guy in my mid 20s, if that helps any.

Also I feel like the black heads on my nose can get fairly prominent, any tips for taking care of them? I have some of the clay mask stuff but i tend to forget to use it.
u/maebynotthistime · 1 pointr/Makeup

This stuff breaks down the heavy makeup: http://www.amazon.com/Albolene-DSE-HEALTHCARE063867-Moisturizing-Cleanser/dp/B000NLHXEC

I would use that before the cleansing wipes suggested to really get the makeup out of your pores. It's very gentle and I was able to use it for nightly shows without a problem. You do need some cleanser after it, so the wipes or your usual facial cleanser should work.

u/baronobeefdip2 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I did state that I have stopped using the BP until it came to inflamed and large bumps which indicated a developing blemish, after applying it to that it would slowly die and be there no more. I at one point tried the ST Ives green tea scrub which contained only a 1% SA concentration which didn't stop or get rid of pimps as much as it did just make things smoother. The clearskin with 2% SA started to make them go away but didn't make the skin moist enough to where it would make the rough and dry patch on my forehead just peel away like it is doing in this picture and this one. The second is less noticeable since I kind of already dried with towel and the loose skin came off, the fact that it's still there bothers me and the fact that the skin of my forehead is still rough and bumpy also bothers me.

When you say gentle cleanser what do are you recommending (ideally something that can be bought from a grocery store and not online where I have to wait for it to come in). I am in product limbo and these are what I have been using.

Hada Labo: Hydrating Facial Cleanser

CeraVe makes my skin pink and burns even when nothing else stings and my face isnt that dry.

They have a hyaluronic toner that helps anything you apply over to absorb faster.

Hada Labo has a few other products I think they have a standard face lotion. Now the foaming cleanser is a little drying I find.

u/buttercup_prncss · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I'll give some suggestions, but you'll have to look on your own for ingredients.

For cleanser, Clean It Zero or Clean It Zero Purity is something to look into.

Hada Labo, which you use already does have a range of other products, so you can look at those. They have a cleanser as well. Here's the US version. There's a Japanese one too.

You may want to look into the Innisfree Minimum line. There aren't a lot of ingredients. Do a search here for "minimum."

You seem to like the snail product, so maybe look into some other snail products. Mizon makes some popular ones. Benton may also be a line you might be interested in. There's an aloe BHA line and a snail bee line.

Some other brands that I have come across with a more "natural" focus are Boscia and Klair from Wishtrend. Here's a Boscia cleanser and here's their beauty oil.

Since you mentioned masks, here are some that look interesting. Klairs Rich Moist Mask

Here's another brand you might be interested in:
http://www.peachandlily.com/collections/cremorlab

Non AB, I tested a couple Andalou products recently and they were nice.

I have sensitive skin as well, but you have a lot of ingredients you want to avoid. It's going to be a little bit of a challenge. Just keep in mind that not everything that's organic or herbal is good for sensitive skin.

u/J-C-F23 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have quite oily skin and often get red inflamed spots and some puss filled pimples on my forehead and cheeks. My skin is also mildly sensitive to very harsh products.

I have been using these products as my skincare routine for about 6-7 months:

u/OriginalFatPickle · 1 pointr/oddlysatisfying

Tried everything as a kid, including aloe.

Only thing that helped was cetaphil and growing a beard. the beard probably helped keep my hands from touching/picking and spreading the bacteria.

Hi, my female friend made a skin care routine for me. No idea whether it is in the right order and whether what I'm using will benefit me, also what could be included in my routine. I finally want to have clear skin, I've been struggling with acne for 8 years now

I'm from the UK 21y male, still suffering from occasional acne but I think this time is the retinol and white spots. Mainly the issues are on my cheeks. This is how it looks right now. https://imgur.com/a/iA6aOYv I have been using this routine for about a week now and seeing little improvements. My skin type: oily
