Woah, hey! I'm always happy to talk about my PHB tabs :) Here's a quick breakdown behind my mentality of it and then my execution and some cons of tabbing:

Why?

From a new player's perspective (or someone who likes to loan their PHB to those who are new), the PHB can be pretty daunting to pick up and use as a tool at the table. The sections are huge, and the only way to tell that you're in one section versus another is some very light text on the bottom page corners with some (lacking) color-coding that doesn't correlate to the Contents page -- and the sub-sections aren't given any different kind of treatment so it all kinda blends together. I don't expect most people to read it front-to-back either, so needing to reference something quickly can be difficult if you don't have the muscle-memory down.

Additionally, there are quite a few pieces of information I need to look up with some regularity that aren't part of the Contents and aren't indexed well, so I needed a way to pick them out specifically and quickly with some kind of tactile solution.

How?

So I decided to just tab all of the subsections, then the smaller topics -- the sections themselves are already too large to bother putting an extra tab in for, and I can just use the color-coding in the bottom corner if I manage to get lost. I use vertical Post-It tabs for the subsections, and horizontal Post-it arrow tabs for the topics that match in color to the vertical subsection tabs (not only is it useful, it makes it look beaauuutiful!). It took me a weekend to do, but I didn't have a super well-planned tab structure in mind so there was a lot of redoing that took up extra time.

Pro Tips:

  1. Start with the vertical tabs as that'll define where you place your next vertical tab (beneath the first) and your horizontal tabs for that subsection.
  2. Make sure to get tabs that can be repositioned so if something gets out of place, it's not life or death.

    My PHB Tab Breakdown

  • pg17 - Ancestries & Classes [Light Blue]
    • pg19 - Dwarf
    • pg21 - Elf
    • pg27 - Halfling

    • pg105 - Warlock
    • pg113 - Wizard

    • pg159 - Food, Drink, & Lodging
    • pg161 - Trinkets (I never use this, it turns out)

    • pg217 - B
    • pg221 - C
    • pg231 - D
    • pg237 - E
    • pg239 - F
    • pg245 - G
    • pg249 - H
    • pg253 - I
    • pg255 - J, K, L (Single Tab)
    • pg257 - M
    • pg263 - N, O
    • pg265 - P
    • pg271 - R
    • pg272 - S
    • pg281 - T
    • pg285 - U, V, W
    • pg289 - Z
  • pg291 - Conditions [Light Blue]
  • Note: Gods and Planes aren't something I constantly need to know about since Matt makes up his own stuff, so I didn't tab this section.
  • pg305 - Creatures [Lime-Green] (I only tabbed this section since it's useful as a DM when I don't feel like peeling through my DMG or MM)

    ---

Obviously each PHB is unique to its owner, and any tabbing will reflect that; in this exercise I've already discovered tabs I never have needed to use, and there are whole sections I omit because it's not commonly needed for the games I play in/run. I do think that having alphabetized spell tabs has been the BIGGEST time saver out of everything, closely followed by the Classes tabs, so you may want to start there -- though that could lead to tabs not lining up nicely, so if aesthetics are important, just plan out your tab structure in advance then go for it!

    Cons

There's only a couple issues I've run into. One is that the tabs that stick out way further still have sticky backs to them and sometimes they get stuck to the other tabs or my arm/sleeves. So far all the tabs have stayed on really well, but it can be a little annoying to peel them off each other.

The other issue is that I have to be really careful with how I store my PHB now; I can't toss it into a drawer or with the tabs facing a surface it'll smash into, since I'm worried it'll mess them up. It's survived like this for at least a year now, so while it's not really inconvenient I just have to keep it in mind.

I have between 110,000 and 130,000 cards. My currently strategy should be scalable to about a million cards, and is totally overkill until you have at least 20,000 cards.

I use BCW 800 count boxes, hundreds of them: https://www.amazon.com/FIFTY-Bundle-Corrugated-Cardboard-Storage/dp/B0014179G2

I have cube shelves that hold 12 boxes per cube. The boxes are within a 1/4" of the depth of the shelves I use, so they rest flush with front edge without issue. There is just enough wiggle room on the sides to slide the boxes in and out easily. There is a bit more space on top, just enough for 1 inch binder (3x3 card/8.5x11 letter sized) or a pair of those thin ultra pro protector folio. The 4x4 binders won't fit in a cube with boxes cleanly, but there is plenty of room on top for those. I actually have 3 BCW 5k boxes for my basic land and tokens, these overhang on the front by an inch or two. I will be replacing these, because it is such a huge hassle to move them.

I got my cubes shelves on clearance at wal-mart for like $15 each, but you can probably get some from some place like wayfair: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/sb0/cube-storage-c1775228.html

Be sure to measure your boxes and use that to inform your decision on shelf purchasing. My shelf cubes are 13" x 13" each and most of my shelves have 2x2 or 1x3 arrangement of cubes. This allows some workspace on top for sorting and deck construction and the 1x3 fit nicely into corners.

With a setup like this you can continue to refine sorting as long as units of 1000 or so cards work for you. When I open boxes I sort it into "of interest" including foils, rares, cards with cool art, playable other stuff and then "chaff" which has my 1500 [[pearled unicorn]]s and [[cephalid snitch]]es.

The chaff goes in the bottom row. These cards are not often referenced and lower the center of gravity of the shelves. The boxes are labeled with set information, I rarely pull it out, but I can and have found commons I have few of despite needing to search 100,000+ cards of BS. The cards that are of interest go into binders or a set of about a dozen boxes that I use to hold highly playable cards for deck construction.

You could further sort down boxes by set if you want. I use old boxes from starter packs, pre-cons and sleeves to fill the ends of boxes so nothing slips around. You might use craft foam to do the same. More sub sorting creates more boxes that aren't entirely full.

For labeling I have gone through several systems. I have taped sleeves to the top face of boxes and used cards to indicate what is in the box. This requires a lot of setup and doesn't scale. It also requires pulling the box out to see what is on the label. I have tried cutting sleeves in half and taping the half height to expose side of the box. This allows snippets of cardboard or post-its to be used as labels, but again this costs time.

I think I will just start using sharpie on the boxes and not caring that bad labeling will cause me to throw out boxes that are otherwise servicable, because each box is like $0.50 to buy and my time is more valuable.

For dividing cards inside of boxes I use rubbish cards, like morph tokens or those stupid ad cards. Then I attach post it tabs: https://www.amazon.com/Post-Writable-Repositionable-Dispenser-686-PGO/dp/B00006JNMR

This allows my 5K box of sleeved tokens to be quickly referenced. I only use them for alphabetization in portrait layout, but they are movable (most are anyway), and they have worked for me in the in landscape layout. So they should be suitable for separating by set, color, rarity or whatever in normal 800 count boxes.

  1. If not everyone has a Players guide a few extras are nice.

  2. Some sort of dice tray Is nice, sometimes table space is limmited.

  3. Lots of mechanical pensils. Not a session goes by when someone says "where is my pensil?" or "You have a spare pensil?"

  4. Scratch paper to make notes.

  5. The more books to pull from the more surprises you can throw at the players, so if you have things bookmarked in advance it helps things. But Book tabs can be a big help if you take the time to label things. I have my Spell compendium devided alphabetically.

  6. A combat ninja. Designate one of the more experianced players or one that is not a combat intnsive character to track the initiative. On a dry erase board or a phone app.

Post-it Tabs, 2-Inch Solid, Assorted Colors, 6-Tabs/Color, 5-Colors, 30-Tabs/Pack

These are what I used.

Edit for disclaimer: the above is amazon link. It is not an affiliate link and does not benefit me in anyway. I posted it only so those interested could see what I used.

They offer the same product in one and three inch varieties for those of you who want them. I think I'll get some one inch ones and re do the Mm and do the spells section of the PHB.

u/amlija · 7 pointsr/declutter

I use something like this and just put it in the drawer where the rest of my files are.

u/yeti77 · 6 pointsr/BlueMidterm2018

As far as I know, they can send to every state. Maybe the rules don't apply since it's not from the campaign. You pay for the postcards

These are the cheapest ones I found.

You pay for the postage and decorate them however you like. Some people are REALLY creative with them. My Indivisible group is going to do a party to do a ton of them down the stretch of campaign season.

I will say, someone on here who works for the Conor Lamb campaign said that they would rather us not go through Postcards to Voters because if we send them directly to the campaign they can better target who they get sent to. There are plenty of Republicans registered to vote as Dems. Honestly, I'd still do it (though not for Lamb. I'd just send it to them to respect their wishes). PtV said that people LOVE these cards. During the Doug Jones campaign, it got to be a thing where people would bring their postcards to the campaign office and they started hanging them up. They had a wall filled with them.

I went through two Itzy Ritzy Tripple Threats before my son was a year old. They're beautiful bags but even with minimal, careful use they just didn't hold up.

For Christmas I gifted myself the JuJuBe Be Right Back Backpack and I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this diaper bag. Backpack is DEFINITELY the way to go when you have a mobile baby.

I use Planet Wise wet bags to organize everything inside the backpack and it's great.

In that photo (body of bag) you have wipes, diapers/wipes/chux pad/butt cream in the space bag, change of clothes/socks/mittens/beanie in the bear bag, snacks/pouches/spoons/table mats/bibs in the narwhal bag.

(Protip - get different prints for each bag. It's so easy to ask someone to hand you the bear bag or the space bag or whatever bag when your hands are full and they don't know what they're looking for.)

Not picture underheath the planet wise bags there's a bottom flap where I keep an emergency kit and a hard case with mum-mums (which I highly recommend or else these things break into a MILLION pieces and leave crumbs all over your bag).

Here you can see the back of the flap where I keep a pair of footie pajamas, a jacket, and hard sole shoes.

The outside of the bag has a space for my phone, my wallet, medicine, and my son's security blanket. I use the side bottle holders for his snack tower and his water bottle.

SO easy to find shit. It holds so much. It's easy to cart around. It's beautiful. 10/10

Congratulations in moving into your first apartment!

I would suggest in buying a few microwaveable tupperwares (or takeaway containers) for dividing up food when cooking to take to work/classes or for a easy quick meals at home.

Get a folder organiser like this to manage all the letters/bills you receive. Set up automatic payments if you can for things like the gas/electricity, internet etc and regularly check your bank balance online via online/phone app.

Set a day once a week to clean your laundry and other cleaning duties i.e. cleaning the bathroom/kitchen/floors etc.

This is great advice. I learned in AI that writing things down is one of the few actions we know helps form memories, as there is a sort of feedback loop created. Doing it more than once is a great idea.

Organization is also key as you mentioned. I used a simple organizer like this my last 2 years of undergrad and it really helped me stay on point. I also took notes on plain printer paper so I could organize what I wrote however I liked (landscape was ideal for math and physics, for example).

For postcards I use these ($10)

100 SUPER THICK index cards / 4"x6" / 14pt (0.014") 100lb / blank un-ruled / 97 white/note-cards post-cards flash-cards/extra heavy-weight duty, acid-free, 4 X 6 card stock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VW8RYCG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4phxDb25YKX0M

For postcards. I don’t need the back to be “formatted” like a postcard. I could add lines for the address myself.

u/StodRerling · 4 pointsr/youtubehaiku

Book flags are the way to go. You can still indicate what matters on the page, they're easier to reference, you can skim your easy-to-find flags later from a closed book as a content refresher, and they don't irreparably damage the book.

u/summerchilde · 4 pointsr/Journaling

You could just use any journal you like and add some tabs to section it. Like these.

u/projhex · 4 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

You need to have those little sign here flags pointing out their transgressions.

u/Areyouthready · 3 pointsr/CrossStitch

I use bags like these. They aren't 100% waterproof at the zippers, but I have never had a problem with my work getting wet. These ones are the ones I bought because it came with different sizes. I keep my thread in one, needle and scissors in another small one and put them and my frame in one of the larger bags.

u/LimeSoda925 · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

Of COURSE!

I got these little business cards: https://www.amazon.com/Fecedy-100pcs-Blank-Business-Message/dp/B01M9ANM0J/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1524834471&sr=8-3&keywords=business+card+blank

A cheap watercolor and paintbrush set: https://www.amazon.com/Watercolor-Variety-Quality-Brushes-Everything/dp/B01G7KHNWE/ref=pd_sbs_201_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01G7KHNWE&pd_rd_r=BCHHR7BDEC6BWT64H4WC&pd_rd_w=UiU2S&pd_rd_wg=5teXV&psc=1&refRID=BCHHR7BDEC6BWT64H4WC

The watercolors were super easy to use, they blend quite well on the paper cards. I would start with a lighter color and then add a few drops of a dark and smoosh it all together into a big blob. Some of them look better than others, but taken together when they are hung in the clip card holder I have, they look nice.

My sister in law did the writing, she used a brush lettering pen I think. I was going to try and do it, but she has nicer handwriting than me. :)

u/VirtuallyJason · 3 pointsr/Gloomhaven

A friend of mine has the Broken Token organizer, which is really nice. I didn't want to spend so much, so I went with a Plano solution. His setup is definitely faster than mine, but mine's not too bad. I also save a lot of time by using an accordion filer for the map pieces (I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0186K7ASK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but it's nothing special). The last thing that I've done to save time (and probably the most impactful) is use https://ninjalooter.de/gloomhaven for tracking the world and party state, and https://www.gloomhavenguild.com for tracking monster bits during combat.

u/McLaconicus · 3 pointsr/Gloomhaven

Totally agree mate. I’ve only had a handful of sessions but already been finding that digging out bags of monsters and tokens slows things down considerably! Thanks for the comment too.

  1. Snopake 15174 Eligo 13 Part Desk Storage Expander A4 Landscape Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0012334Z2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_aQxZBbNX6N9P9 Here is an example of what I mean. Just make sure to buy an accordion style one and not one that splays open from the bottom as It just won’t be large enough to hold everything.

  2. Exactly correct. Archers have one envelope, guards another, bosses another. Just sort the monsters out by their decks.

  3. I used probably around 2x a3 sheets. I recycled all of mine as tonnes of the stuff is wasted at my work. Check on trade websites too mate, I think amazon will be expensive for that sort of stuff. The foamboard architects use to make their models is exactly what you want. Mine was also 3mm thickness although the link I provided in another comment used 5mm thickness (I just accounted for the 2mm difference in my measurements). I actually think balsa wood would be perfect mate. It’s nice and light too although it may well cost a lot.

Hope this helps and if there is anything else I can answer then please ask!

I use these snap button document folders and puch holes in them to keep them in my binders. I have one for clothing and one for other projects like bags and quilts. What I like about these snap button folders is that they hold everything inside, even when I drop my binder (yes when, this will happen once a week or so). For every pattern I have the paper pieces and a copy of the instructions. I use pattern magazines almost exclusively and I store those in a magazine rack on the wall. The one or two pattern envelopes I have are stored in the binder next to the paper pieces.

Glad to answer:

Yes, you should hold some back for taxes. Since you are in a lower tax bracket, I would suggest you keep 20% of your earnings from your Uncle gig, or roughly $60 per month.

As a sole proprietor, you also need to be making quarterly payments in April, June, September and December to the IRS. You will be penalized if you don't. If you have not paid yet for this year, backpay what you should have paid.

In your case, I would make a $180 quarterly payment. You can do that here:

https://www.irs.gov/payments

Yes, you should be saving receipts and recording your mileage (use google docs). Use this to help you save your receipts:

Not OP, but I also use a clipboard and take notes on loose paper.

I have a ton of manilla envelopes I use to archive notes in a cardboard box. If I refer to the notes often (say, once a week) I'll put them in a poly envelope.

EDIT: I also digitize my notes.

u/eNonsense · 2 pointsr/Gloomhaven

Yeah. The game is a beast. The game's main appeal is also a big part of its annoyance. Every time you play you'll be embarking on a new dungeon with different features & different monsters who have different abilities. With that amount of variability, also comes the need to organize and set up new content every time you play. When I play with my groups, I ALWAYS determine our scenario path beforehand, and get everything set up and ready before people arrive. I have also bought a couple Plano organization boxes, An expanding file for the map tiles, CD sleeves for the monster cards, and small dice to replace the monster damage counters. That all helps speed up setup & play a bit, but it's not necessary.

What type of rules do you have questions about?

I highly recommend using the New Player content that's out there, such as the First Game Setup Guide and doing a search on /r/Gloomhaven to read a couple threads of frequently missed rules.

I have not seen one like that for a letter size, let alone top-bound design. Have you considered pad folios? Here's an example. If that's too thick for you, another option might be using a plastic sleeve -- not really a cover, but works well for protection. It's similar to sheet protectors but opens at the top and a side so you can slip your papers in and out easily. Here's an example.

Personally, I use the Five Star Flex 1.5" binders (https://www.amazon.com/Five-Star-NoteBinder-1-5-Inch-Capacity/dp/B00XLUNETA/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1483485208&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=five+star+flex+1.5+inch). They are flexible (so you are not stuck with a rigid binder), which makes it great for studying (I can flip the the front part of the binder under the rest of it for studying, this tends to break normal binders). I am in a very intensive science program, so I have a lot of notes.

In your case I would get 3 binders and put 2 courses in each one.
Have a single divider at the beginning of each binder and another divider that goes behind the last course (for a total of 3 dividers) and label each one with the title of the course and leave the last one blank. Behind this last divider I put some lined loose-leaf paper. If the prof provides lecture notes, the automatically go into their respective spot in order in the binder and I immediately use one of these sticky notes (https://www.amazon.com/Post-1-Inch-Yellow-Dispenser-686-ALYR1IN/dp/B00HNW7E84/ref=sr_1_4?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1483485771&sr=1-4&keywords=sticky+notes+for+binders). on the side of the I pick one colour for lecture notes, one colour for lab notes and one colour for tutorial notes and keep it consistent across all of my binders. If it is my first RARA lecture during the first week I write "RARA W1L1".

This system works well for me because I find I am more organized then before (I have done the whole one binder per course and also the notebook method) and my fellow students in my new program say I am the most organized. I used to lose lectures/paper etc all the time because I never wanted to lug binders with me, but these are so much lighter and bendable, so they are much easier to deal with

I use a small clear bag that I believe was part of a multi-size pack for traveling purposes. Let me find a similar one to link for you.

If you're looking for some tips, I always travel with hand sanitizer/antibacterial hand wipes as well. Comes in handy when you don't have access to wash your hands.

I use one of these, the exact sizing i'm not sure. I travel a lot and go to venues for jobs a lot so the clear bag makes it easier to find what I'm looking for inside it but also if my bag ever has to be looked through they can just see what's in it. https://www.amazon.com/JUSLIN-10pcs-Zipper-Holder-Travel/dp/B06ZYHMWCY/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1541869177&sr=8-19&keywords=clear+travel+bag

Ah, yeah, I get that. I've never found a backpack that I felt has enough pockets/dividers/sections etc. for all my smaller items. I have a Peak Design 20L backpack, and my workaround is to have smaller containers inside. So for example, the Tenba Byob 9 can actually fit some gear and fit inside my backpack. I also have some clear zippered pouches (a bit similar to this) for some items too.
