Whatever you do, please don't buy a bike from a department store. I would recommend something in the $300-$600 range. I ride a road bike most of the time, but for a daily commuter I would recommend something like this Critical Cycles Single-Speed/Fixie. It's simple and affordable, while not being a piece of junk that will fall apart on you.

This is with stock parts, so once I switch out that heinous yellow bar tape for something a bit more slick, it'll look even faster :P ETA and my leather Brooks saddle, that stock one looks like a pain machine (and not the fun kind).

If you don’t like the sizing options with that one, this one appears to be another great choice, and comes in a 54cm.

I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. Can anyone show me a bike that I could get for under $500 CAD better than this Regal? Local classifieds are bare and getting anything from the "$200-600" Guide would end up being over $700 CAD. This State bike appears to be only $299 CAD on amazon.ca. Does that look legit?

This looks like a good candidate form a simple build. Put a BMX stem and bars, simple battery and hub motor etc

Hi I decided to buy this bike instead

https://www.amazon.com/State-Bicycle-black-Label-Aluminum/dp/B07613WSTK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510088622&sr=8-3&keywords=6061%2BBlack%2BLabel&th=1&psc=1

let me know your thoughts what if I change out the saddle? and I put in a bigger more comfy saddle? do you think it will solve the comfort issue?

Also can you tell me what size to buy?

I previously had this bike the 18 inch

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/revel-3-2015

the top tube as you can see was a 22.8 inch.

Therefore looking at the state bike

https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0232/3305/files/BlackLabel2018.jpg

55cm has a top tube of 21.6 inch. So it has me wondering WHICH SIZE is right for me?

I am 5 feet and 11 inches with a 33 inch inseam. My old Giant bike was a 18 inch frame and was a perfect fit. The chart apparently recommends me a 57 cm but I dunno

BUT look how sexy this bike looks

https://www.statebicycle.com/collections/black-label/products/6061-black-label-v2-raw

too bad its super thin slicks dunno if it will support my lard 260 obese weight but I want it so badly its sooo pretty.

Cinelli Tipo Pista vs State Black Label

Ive done a lot of cycling, from BMX and MTB to Road Cycling, and its now time to get my first fixie.

I found that the Cinelli Tipo Pista has dropped in price significantly since its debut, 630$ for some colors: https://www.amazon.com/Cinelli-Pista-Bicycle-Touch-Medium/dp/B07FZQLBCW/ref=sr_1_52?keywords=fixed%2Bgear%2Bbike&qid=1559065900&rnid=2470954011&s=gateway&sr=8-52&th=1&psc=1 ($630)

Now its price is comparable to the state bike black label: https://www.amazon.com/State-Bicycle-Black-Label-Aluminum/dp/B07612WQF9?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_6948460011&th=1&psc=1 ($630-$660)

Which one would you recommend and why?

Edit: If it matters, I plan on using this bike to commute to work and school, so mostly for street. I like to go fast, and do a few tricks here and there (that comes from my BMX/MTB heritage)

Is your campus flat or hilly? If flat, lots of ok steel fixies on Amazon for under $200. Otherwise, bikesdirect isn't a bad option if a local bike shop doesn't stock used models.

Ok ~$200 steel fixies on Amazon (find the right size for your height):

I've had it for 2 weeks now and love it. I feel absolutely comfortable on it. Its sold as a fixie but its really just a single speed. Sorry for the confusion. I have both front and back breaks. I've already done around 15mile trips on it and love it. I've been fine in traffic too. I don't take the crazy roads like 4th street. Thanks though!!

150 is really stretching it, for that price go to Craigslist and find a used roadbike, that is possible and a good solution actually. This is the cheapest you could get on Amazon and if "kinda heavy" isn't too heavy it would serve you just fine, but you need to know it has only one gear, which is why this cheap is possible. I ride a singlespeed (Fixie Inc Floater, not available on Amazon.com though) that costs 300€ and it's a great bicycle and you might like the almost complete lack of parts that need to be maintained if you are just starting out. This one is about the equivalent.

I'm in a similar situation to OP, do maybe 200-400 miles a year. Is this a good choice for a flat commute?

Looking for advice. I don't currently own a bike and am in the market but have a very limited budget (think under $250). I live in fairly flat terrain and would be riding primarily on asphalt. Research so far points to fixies but want to know where to go from here. Currently looking at these two models: https://www.amazon.com/Fixed-Single-Speed-Urban-Fixie/dp/B018NVQ6VO?th=1&psc=1 ; https://www.amazon.com/6KU-Track-Fixed-Bicycle-Black/dp/B018NVR8IY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1 For reference I'm 5'2, 107 pounds (unsure if this matters).

u/Rjected · 1 pointr/ebikes

It just looks to me like a normal bike with a small battery and okay motor, I just don't understand who would buy it for $3000. A BBSHD 1000 and a battery of the same watt-hours together is $1100. The bike frame looks very similar to this all-aluminium bike, which is at most $430. Let's say there is $500 in labor costs and other expenses (just an estimate), that makes the total for the company $2030, leaving $970 in profit. That could make sense if those bikes are not predicted to sell well, but this estimation is using a BBSHD 1000 (1600W peak). I just think this bike is vastly overpriced, and it doesn't really target a specific audience (which would justify the price if it had special features). This looks like another overpriced ebike that will end up not doing much to improve the market for electric bikes. We'll just have to see how it does.

I live in Chicago and am looking at getting a bike for the summer. I'm a grad student so my budget is pretty limited. I was looking at something like this on Amazon. I've called lots of local bike shops and none of the stores that sell things new have options for me. There are some used bike shops I plan on hitting up but an unsure as to whether its better to buy used or get something new like shown above. Thoughts? I'd like to spend around $200 with an upper limit of around $250 since I also will need to buy a basket, helmet, etc.
