Wait what were these called again?

Edit: Hover disc

u/_Verz_ · 13 pointsr/Perfectfit

It's called Hyper Disc by Air Hogs (other variations may be called hover discs).

Here are four designs I found on Amazon:

[Air Hogs Hyper Disc, Dot] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQBB3PG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_d79hAbK6Y6PXC)

[Air Hogs Hyper Disc, Spiral] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQBAZRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_579hAbNHEG756)

[Air Hogs Hyper Disc, Swirl] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQBB3HE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_G89hAbM3MZ10Q)

[Air Hogs Hyper Disc, UFO] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQBB00Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_h99hAbG8CD33D)

Other than the classic 175g ultimate disc, you could grab one of these throwing rings from Aerobie, I believe it still holds the world record for being the farthest object thrown by a human.

u/lookatallthisstuff · 7 pointsr/ultimate

This is the best disc I've found. Holds the flight pattern of a Discraft while still being soft enough to not hurt my pup and it's also fairly indestructable.

u/_StatesTheObvious · 5 pointsr/videos

I am laughing at the objects he keeps pulling out.

For a more traditional disc that is durable, but flies relatively well compared to Hero Discs, I would go with a [Hyperflite Jawz] (https://www.amazon.com/Hyperflite-Jawz-Disc-4-Inch-Blueberry/dp/B002CM3O6G) disc. They are puncture resistant and can fly a lot further than the soft rubber or foam discs. They are also softer than Hero Discs, which makes them a little safer. They are more expensive than other discs, but I have had mine for over a year without any punctures holes. They are heavier than Hero Discs so they don't float quite as well, but they can carry some distance, especially compared to the Kong flyers.

Buy him a Franklin Starter Pack, as a joke, with a gift card hidden in it somewhere.

That looks like an Aerobie, I had one of those in the 1980s...

Getting it off the roof is easy though, as per the other comment try getting it off an electricity pylon.

Everything is 3/4" pipe. The total costs of the joints at Lowe's is $9.24:

  • 5 Tees, $0.47 each
  • 1 Cross, $2.37
  • 4 45-degree elbows, $0.86 each
  • 4 90-degree elbows, $0.27 each

For the pipe, you can get 10 feet of 200psi pipe for $1.51. This works fine for all the tubes except for the main vertical shaft. For that, you want to get the heavier pipe, so that it will make a tighter fit with the post on the basket. I think the heavier pipe is around $2.50 for 10 feet. All together, you'll be spending about $13.

The basket itself is $18.83 right now on Amazon: http://amzn.com/B000OWL0X0

The first design I tried was this. It's a few bucks cheaper, because it uses less of the 45 degree elbows, but would need glue to keep it from falling over in one direction. I started with edges that were 2 feet long for the base, and so when I decided to bisect them, I made them 11.25 inches (allowing 1.5 inches for the tee). When I went with the final design, I kept that measurement the same. Here's what I ended up for total pieces:

  • 8 pieces 11.25" -- for the base
  • 2 pieces 11.5" -- for the long diagonals
  • 2 pieces 8" -- for the short diagonals
  • 2 pieces 4.5" -- for the long arms
  • 2 pieces 3" -- for the short arms
  • 1 piece 2" -- vertical piece under the cross
  • 1 piece 27" -- main vertical shaft, holds the basket

Total length of tube needed: 173 inches. A single ten foot piece from the hardware store is 120 inches. So, you'll need two of them.

I marked the distances with a sharpie, and then cut them with a compound miter box saw. I didn't allow any space for the cut, since tolerances here are pretty lax anyway. If you don't have a compound miter box saw, you can just use a hacksaw instead, but it will take a lot longer, and you'll need to sand the pieces after each cut.

I didn't bother gluing any of this, but it's pretty sturdy. If you plan to use it a lot, it would be worthwhile to glue the joints, and spray paint it.

bestdiscgolfdiscs.com suggests a Valkyrie, Roc, and Aviar for 3 discs. They do use Amazon Pay but you can't use a gift card for that, which is why I assume you specify Amazon.

The problem with buying a set is they're just going to give you what ever they have but it will be cheaper than buying individually.

This Innova Set is decent, The TeeBird is my favorite Innova fairway drive and one of the best all around discs and it has a recommended Roc. I can't say anything about the Rhino but I think when you're starting out putters don't matter much. A similar Innoa Set This one is Leopard, Roc, and Aviar. So maybe this is a little safer as most players will agree that Roc and Aviar are solid discs. Then maybe throw in a GStar Valkyrie and you're just over $40 but you've got some solid discs.

This set of 4 Discraft goes right up to your budget but there's no listing of discs so it's a gamble. In the photo you see a Nuke which is a horrible disc for beginners.

This DGA set Is notable because they're all 150 class discs. Lighter discs can be good for absolute beginners but if you did play a little and can throw then light discs might be more of a burden. It all depends on your arm speed, I'd probably suggest this more for women and children. The Squall is a great beginner mid and the Reef is a solid putter. In normal plastic I'd say the Rogue is not good for beginners but being so light it might work.

I want to love it. Aeriobie’s flying rings are absolutely mind boggling.

I use a frisbee made by aerobie that is a ring type, the outer edges are rubber but the inner ring that gives the frisbee its shape is made of hard plastic. They aren't the most durable frisbee but my dogs use them daily and it stands up to their chewing and quick games of tug with it for about 2-3 months before needing replaced.

Chuck-it makes several types of fabric frisbees, but I've never used them so I don't know how well they would hold up.

He's just going to love it

u/futilehabit · 2 pointsr/SideProject

Seriously, I play frisbee golf and ultimate frisbee on a regular basis, I have used a dozen of these and own a few, what exactly is the improvement here? And what warrants the inflated $17 price tag?

Same thing, $5, after a ten second google search

Light and compact. Good way for a shy-ish person to hang out with folks and make new friends. Just start messing around with the glowing flying toy around dusk and odds are someone will eventually hands-up for a pass.

Funny story. My mom got it for my brother's kids. Some reason my (obviously anal parent with control issues) brother won't allow his kids to play disc golf. They're 10. and 8 yo. I don't know why... The worst part is, he has a disc golf course in his backyard. That's not an exaggeration, look at the hole #7 picture: http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=4731. The house with the white fence is his!

I guess after you've seen his house, you can tell what ideologies he probably subscribes to...

Anyway, he rejected it... I...The one who actually plays disc golf got it instead. This is it: http://www.amazon.com/Wham--Mini-Frisbee-Golf-Colors/dp/B000OWL0X0 just different colors.

u/jimmy1god0 · 2 pointsr/discgolf

If materials didn't exceed the price of [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Wham-Mini-Frisbee-Golf-Colors/dp/B000OWL0X0) then I'm ok with it.

u/Dudge · 2 pointsr/discgolf

While I understand your argument, it is kind of like saying that if someone orders a coke, they are definitely ordering a Coke. The language has developed to include some brand names as generic, like coke, frisbee, or aspirin (which used to carry a trademark from Bayer company). While I use Disc Golf, when I first learned about the game as a kid we always went folfing. The argument, that calling the game folfing is wrong, has confused me since I started hear a little over a year ago.

Also, WhamO!

Edit: Grammar and added Link.

u/phillium · 2 pointsr/theocho

Sure, they do! They just aren't very good (though they are PDGA approved). Though, I must admit, when I saw one of these (also PDGA approved) in a Walmart for less than $5, I had to pick it up. Glow in the dark center, rubber overmold outer edge, and a consistent weight (160 grams) show just how far ahead of the curve it is! Flippy, and not very durable, but a good conversation piece.

This to play with your dog or your friends :) It would last a long time and your dog would be so happy. You would both get exercise too.

I use that brand and theyve held up extremely well, one of mine is much like y'alls where half the time hed rather try to destroy it after fetching it.

u/tstandiford · 2 pointsr/discgolf

These are by far my favorite fetch discs. They’re light, understable, and just floppy enough to be safe to catch.

Insane amount of glide, too.

This light up frisbee is integral to my spirit, as it soars though the air like a bullet, riding the wind with precision and grace. My soul is a beacon in the dark, and stands as a guide for those who cannot see when all light is lost.

HI! my name is Samantha by the way, nice to meet you, i too am a princess.

Don't play with people who take it so serious. You won't enjoy it. Nor will they.

Also, consider getting one of these to keep up with any people you play with now who are better then you.

u/wbgraphic · 1 pointr/DIY

I had the same problem, but I think that's an Aerobie.

u/heart-cooks-brain · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

We're mid 30's and my husband just bought a mini Frisbee golf set up. It has been up in my living room, on my fireplace, for almost 3 weeks with no sign of it coming down anytime soon.

We're not in our 50's yet, but I think it's a good sign our inner children aren't too far away, either!

u/stoaster · 1 pointr/pics

I don't know if the one I had as a kid was name brand or not, but it was pretty much the same. I had so much fun with that thing, definitely prefer it over the more common kind of frisbee.

Link for those that are interested.

My only suggestion is to be an artist. Paperclips and all. You can buy these mini baskets but I'm sure this is to big for you fish tank. http://www.amazon.com/Wham-O-Mini-Frisbee-Golf-Set/dp/B000OWL0X0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343834440&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+disc+golf+basket

August is amazing as it is the container for the Perseids Meteor shower which usually kicks off and peaks around Aug 11-13th. It's one of the most active cyclical showers and there is nothing like a warm August night watching streaks of light repetitively shoot across the sky. We usually head out to a stargazing pad and spend a few hours out there just joking around and oohing and aahhing at the sky.

A badass night frisbee to play with my daughter during the 31 days of August.

In case of lazy

I have it, for the price its nice. If you have Prime it's 28ish bucks shipped. I got it a while back when it was like 19 dollars on prime (I had it in a wish list). My nieces love playing with it. video proof

It's not a black friday deal, but amazon sells 6 packs of ultrastars at a good price. plus it's amazon so shipping isn't that much, especially if you have prime.

Have you tried either the Zogoflex Zisc or the Hyperflite Jawz? Those two have held up very well with our Aussie, who shredded the Kong frisbee in minutes.

Edited to add: Looks like Leerburg still has the Chewber in stock

I made this thread for this kind of thing

https://www.reddit.com/r/food/comments/3vn0au/medicinal_food_my_superfood_supersmoothie_elixir/

Oh and i also recommend getting a flying disk called an Aerobie. It's astonishing, and so addictive. You can play with him in the park. I once lost a good 6 inches off my waste playing that thing for an hour almost every day.
