Go to your hardware store and get one of these.

https://www.amazon.com/CRL-Complete-Propane-Torch-UL100/dp/B00QL53S0W/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1549898608&sr=8-18&keywords=propane+torch

It's a much more sturdy, more powerful and more versatile thing than those butane kitchen torches.

Still perfectly safe to use (provided you're not an idiot) and safe for food.

Only need 2 bricks. and the burner is very affordable, albeit a little unsuitable. its the cheapest way to accomplish what he's trying to do. its like the definition of hobbyist tools.

Brush the stick toward the spot you wanna strike the arc, like you're moving a paintbrush across a canvas. If you're using a used rod, be sure there is bare metal on the end of the electrode by removing it from the clamp, tapping the end on a hard surface, or giving the end a nip with the welpers. Strike the arc onto clean metal, as clean as you can get it. I don't care if you're working on your uncle's tractor, this will establish a more reliable arc. Take wire brushes or wheels to stuff. Clean metal. Clean metal. No slag. No scale. Be fastidious about this, where you're gonna be striking an arc, Just be careful you don't chip off too much electrode coating, an uncoated electrode gives a poor result.
If you stick one, hey, for "#2" up there, you got it down as well as anybody else, let's face it. There's no really graceful way to unstick a rod. Just remember to breathe, be comfortable in whatever position you're being tasked to bind the steel in, and also, be comfortable. Did I say be comfortable? Take another five to twitch all the twitches you gotta to get all the right elbows in all the right places. This is welding. You're gonna rehearse this. Where are your hands gonna be when you're done with this arc strike? Is that sustainable in reality, for your wrists? Your back? Whatever? Without an electrode even in the holder, play-pretend to go all the way through this bead, where you want it. Rehearse. See any spots you need to adjust where you are.
Steel is very unforgiving. It demands a calm, careful, steady hand. Heed this not, and spend an obscene amount of time with your Angle Grinder.
For #3, it depends on a lot of factors. Just starting out, I'd be listening to every word every instructor said, writing it down, and applying it as precisely as possible.

I use this torch. I use it for silver but I do rather large pieces and have never had trouble getting it hot enough. The opposite actually lol I have to be careful not to melt the whole thing!

Basic components of a pressurized CO2 system:

  • Regulator -controls flow of CO2 gas into your aquarium

  • CO2 tank - consistent, pressurized source of CO2

  • Diffuser - breaks down CO2 gas into teeny tiny bubbles for plants to use

Regulators: there are many brands and components to a regulator. I recommend a regulator with a solenoid, and a bubble counter. The solenoid allows you easily control your CO2 using an inexpensive timer, or an expensive pH controller. A bubble counter is a simple way to guess how much CO2 gas is in your aquarium. You may want to shoot for 3-4 bubbles per second depending on lighting and plants. I personally recommend the Milwaukee regulator and have used one reliably for years.

CO2 tank: A 10 lb tank might last you 3-4 months before needing refilled. You can get a 20lb but they are huge and ridiculously heavy. On my 29gal, a 10lb tank lasts 6 months. Tanks ship empty and you have to find a local source to fill it with CO2. Try welding supply or home brew beer supply. You will need disposable seals too.

Diffuser: This is where you have a lot of options. Ceramic diffusers are effective on small-medium tanks. CO2 reactors and DYI options using your filtration system are effective on a large size tank. I can't give any recommendations on these 2 options, sorry, hopefully someone will chime in.

Other important equipment includes CO2-safe tubing, a drop checker, maybe a brass check valve if needed, and the aforementioned timer. Hit me up if you would like recommendations for these items.

I had to do something similar but I didn't want to cut anything so I bought a regulator and two different fittings so I could just attach it when I needed to cook at a lower temperature. Now I can cook bacon without burning the crap out if it. These three parts fit the Coleman grill I have and linked to at the end. I would assume all these types of stoves have the same connectors.

Industry standard is a "B" size nipple with a male "B" nut. The thread on a B nut is 5/8"- 18 but without a nipple it is not designed to seal. Look in the hole where the line attaches to the machine, you should see a conical seat at the bottom - that's what the nipple butts up against to make a seal.

Looks like this

3/8 npt is also 18 tpi and 5/8" OD but it is tapered and seals on the actual threads, not the seat like a B nipple. It's not the correct fitting for what you're doing.

EDIT: Oops! Missed the fact you just wanted a quick disconnect. THIS is the easy no-drama solution for what you're trying to do.

Here.

Just dress that up however you want. That's all this is.

In case you want this identical body, it's about twice the cost of the torch itself.

Well, I apparently over spent on this regulator because I see that there are others now for under $40. I can't recall how much the nitrogen costs. I want to say it's around $40 as well, but I have a terrible memory so I may be way off. The stout taps are a little spendy, but totally worth it if you're going to get the full nitro experience. So, it's around $100 for the regulator and the tap.

I just steep them in my regular mash kettle no bag or filter or anything. I usually do it on a weekend and whenever I pass by doing other things I give it a stir. It may not be necessary to stir that often, but it makes sense to me for full extraction. I dunno. When it's ready to keg, I leave it alone over night and the grounds settle and I siphon from the top as I would a beer. I set a fine mesh strainer on my keg to catch anything that does get sucked up in the transfer process.

Oh, you'll want to make sure you get some tubing that can handle that pressure. I've used beverage line for my CO2 lines, but you'l definitely want to make sure you use actual gas line for this.

They also have them with bottles, but I have my job supply any bottle that needs to be hydroed.

Basically same thing you were gonna buy but Victor which is what all the pro fab guys use. They have flashback arrestor at the handle instead of at the regulator.

Krep your rig in your truck. Some heat and cold wont bother it. Keep the bottles off and the regulator "closed" (handle loose) while not using it and the setup will last your for many many years. Plus parts (like hoses) are carried at every welding shop.

What about this one, the only issue is that they say it could be a choking hazard, Other than that it seems pretty safe, great price!

a set of torches is around $200 to $300 and where i am you have to rent the bigger tanks and i dont know what small tanks cost. go to a welding store and rent a K cylinder of oxygen, buy a set of harris torches and get a propane tip then hook the fuel regulator to your BBQ tank if you have one at home and you are in business. here are cheap regulators, dont buy used ones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HARRIS-Model-601-Regulator-Set-Oxygen-Acetylene-Cutting-Welding-Torch/163627986056?hash=item2618fcec88:g:8DIAAOSw3XZcokQO

you can buy some cheap chinese sets, they are probably fine. look on ebay. if you want to just cut and save money then use propane, acetylene is a rip off. here is a good set. https://www.amazon.com/Harris-Ironworker-Oxygen-Acetylene-4400366/dp/B01DN2OWIW/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=harris+torch+set&qid=1572326696&sr=8-2

I use this one and am also a beginner :) Been very happy with it, as my last one was very under powered.

u/darkon · 1 pointr/woodworking

It's a striker, or lighter. Used to strike a spark to ignite gas torches (often acetylene). Here's one for sale, or another, or another.
