Just realised that I've been using an epilator on/off for about 20 years. The new ones are much better than the old school [spring coiled ones] (https://www.amazon.com/Epilady-EP-800-10-Classic-Coil-Epilator/dp/B00B5ICA3G). They hurt! My best advice is to hold the skin taught around the area you're working on and move the epilator in circles. Keep at it and the hair regrowth with slow (I have bald patches all over my legs) and the pain will diminish!

Oh goodness, this reminds me of my stepmother. I am very pale, very dark hair. She refused to let me shave and when I finally got to an age where is wasn't acceptable for her to keep me from doing so anymore, she insisted on me only being allowed to used an Epilady (if you don't know what that is > LINK.

What the hell is with these women and their need to control other peoples bodies?!

Have you ever tried epilating instead of tweezing? It's a similar concept as tweezing - pulling out the hairs - but it's much faster. Something like this is an example of what to look for.

As for the redness, I usually take an antihistamine (like Benadryl, Claritin, or their generic counterparts) and slap on some calming lotion. I typically use the calming balm in this little set. My redness is usually completely gone within 20-30 mins. On a side note, you could also try out that depilatory cream. If you don't have very sensitive skin, it could work pretty well. Al you have to do it dab it on and let it sit for 10 mins, then remove with tissues or a washcloth. It never left my skin red or irritated.

I got mine in a two pack from Amazon.

There’s a few YT videos on how to use these and I highly recommend watching one because I couldn’t for the life of me figure it out on my own.

I have been using an epilator on my face for the past 5 years. I use a small one intended for the face. I love it! I use it about once every week. I honestly should probably use it every day because I start getting some hair growth on day two or three. It takes me about 15 minutes to completely epilate my beard and mustache.

I have not tried epilating other parts of the body, just my face. I usually just shave everything else. But I’m not as self conscious about the rest of my body as I am about my face.

Pros:
-Cheaper than waxing. I was to the point where I needed to wax my face twice a month.
-Easy to travel with (can take it on planes)
-Easy to use.
-Can find them battery operated or corded.
-There are some that can be used wet or dry.
-Area stays smoother longer.

Cons:
-Painful....but after a while you learn to manage it. I usually pause after a couple of minutes, taking a long breath before continuing.
-Red splotches. I’m not sure if this is just me, but my face gets very red in the area I epilate. Usually lasts an hour or so.
-Discoloration. Over time my face has discolored in the areas I routinely epilate. Not sure if this is common or just something that happened to me.
-Noisy. My husband doesn’t mind, but it does sound like an electric razor.

With all this being said! I absolutely love my epilator.

I use an older model similar to this.

It actually is pretty scary. It makes a noise like a mini lawnmower. VRrrrrrrrrHGGRrrRRRRR.

But I have this: http://www.amazon.com/Braun-SE7280-Silk-Epil-Xpressive-Epilator/dp/B0016GTOFY

u/black_rose_ · 3 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

I switched to an epilady years ago and never went back. It hurts the first time (like waxing) but if you do it once a week your legs are always smooth and it doesn't hurt.

u/asketchkid · 2 pointsr/feemagers

I found a razor where you just run it over your skin w/o shaving cream that works pretty well. I can’t find the exact one I use, but it is something like This . You do have to go over the area a couple times over to shave the whole thing, but it is a time saver for me personally because i take a long time shaving.

Painless Hair Removal for Women Wloomm Portable Waterproof Electric Facial Hair Remover for Face Lip Body Chin and Cheek Hair Pink https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077P3N23C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RnOYCbBNWAPQJ

This has been a literal life saver for me. I was a day and night shaver. It's completely embarrassing, but this gets almost as close a shave as a razor but you can't see the hair. Plus it's pain free and no irritation.

I don't have this specific one. There are others types too. Just searched painless hair removal on Amazon. Also if you may try a mens electric razor! They use it on their faces. Why can't we! 😂

Over the last couple of years, I've developed a serious chin hair problem. I was dead set against laser hair removal - it seemed drastic and I assumed it was ridiculously expensive. But I was so tired of shaving and feeling self-conscious that I eventually got a quote and it was not nearly as bad as I thought. Like, I assumed it would be thousands of dollars. It wasn't even $500 in total for all my sessions, and I go to a fancy place in an expensive town.

And as reluctant as I was at first, it's one of the best things I've ever done. It's such a joy not to worry about the hair anymore. I just wish I'd done it sooner!

If you just don't have the money, you just don't have the money, but if you might have the money it's worth getting a quote.

I haven't lasered my lip yet, though I'd like to - the chin was more urgent for me. In the meantime this stuff works well, but another blogsnarker mentioned that it's been discontinued :(

I use an epilator

Yeah if can hurt but if you can withstand waxing, plucking, threading it's just another thing that rips out hair. I do it in sections makes it easier to keep areas taunt and remove the hairs. Only thing is gotta wait a bit for it to grow back before removing again. Apparently you can do it in the shower/wet, I've just removed dry...easier for me to see the little hairs.

My sisters been getting laser removal but it's pricy depending on where you live... she's in a State where it's quite popular so lots of places have deals and packages. It would cost me more than double where I live.

EDIT: also I find if I use an oil/coconut based exfoliate on areas after it soothes it more. But that's just personal preference.

u/NANAs_Mic · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I'm not sure what they're called, actually. This is what I originally saw mentioned, I think. There are lots of variations, but the cheapest are about $1.

This is the specific one I got, though, and I think it's worth the extra cost. With the cheaper ones, you have to keep it bent against your skin, but this one holds the correct shape all on its own. I like it because I can just roll the thing over my face without even paying much attention to it. Like I was just playing with it while I was watching Project Runway, no mirror or anything.

Like I said, it didn't hurt for me at all--like a tingly prickle on my cheeks--but it probably would hurt more for coarse hairs. It works similar to threading or tweezing in that it's yanking hairs out by the root, but it's so much more convenient.

u/Ambanivolo · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

If you want to try a cheaper option and don't mind waiting for a month or so there are cheap Asian options on Amazon.

I bought this one ($1.95) and it works great once you get the hang of it.

I got really good at making sugar, actually, following this tutorial, so it's the only thing I've done for the past few years (always keep in mind sugar darkens really fast. As soon as those bubbles start to color even a little bit, turn the heat waaayyy down and pay close attention). I cut up old jeans for waxing strips and use an old steel toothless dinner knife to spread on a thin layer. If the sugar is cooked the right way, it should come away clean every time (no gooey sticky mess).

Waxing I did before and the easiest ones were probably those pre-waxed strips from Sally Hanson. Otherwise I used the Sally Hansen sugar wax kit (it worked... sometimes), but that sugaring recipe works waayy better once you get the technique down and is far cheaper.

Also, keep in mind some areas are easier to wax/sugar than others. For me, anywhere the skin is loose and the hair is coarse (underarms, bikini lines) is the easiest. The hair always comes away very easily and almost painlessly (bit of a tingle). If the hair is really fine and the skin is thin (like arm or belly hair), it hurts like a bitch for me. I end up with crazy amounts of ingrown hairs. Everyone's different though so ymmv.

I'm looking into getting an epilady soon though since my time has just been really limited lately. My mom uses one to great effect (and has since before I can remember).

For all of this stuff, if you've never dilapidated in this manner before (i.e. ripping it out in one go), then please note that it will hurt the worst the first time around. Hair grows cyclically and every hair is on a different growing schedule. After the first time, only about 1/2-1/4 of the hair will grow back at a time, so maintenance is your best friend.

This guy, seriously though, it hurts but you'll be baby smooth. I'm always careful to not pooch my lips out so I don't get pinched when doing the stache. I've never had it happen, but the fear keeps me cautious lol.

I've just bought an epilator, will report back on its usefulness.

u/badspyro · 1 pointr/Sissies

take one of these:

Philips epilator - I have one in purple

Which is a whirling set of mechanical tweesers, and pluck ALL THE HAIRS ^warning, ^may ^induce ^pain ^like ^never ^before ^the ^first ^time ^you ^use ^it ^^OUCH

u/KuriousGirl · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Trust me when I say it's a different kind of pain when it comes to waxing and plucking. My sister who is far more hairer then me and waxes almost every few weeks with no pain couldn't handle using the epilator.
I use this one, pretty simple and has great results -

Braun Silk Epil 1/1170 Epilator https://www.amazon.in/dp/B005GRH5M8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sk4DCb9B3FGH4

Here is another nice option
Braun Series-3/3270 Epilator https://www.amazon.in/dp/B006J1SA6A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pn4DCbHMA8HKN

You seriously won't need the million head options. So won't waste 140$ in it.
Hope my links open as it's Amazon India 😋

It's worth buying, period

I've been eyeing the Bundle Monster for awhile but couldn't bring myself to purchase it (I'm a super-cheap person)! Just pulled the trigger and bought these.

Anyone have experience with MASH plates? Better/worse than Bundle Monster? I'm assuming they can't compare with Konad's, but at this price, that's OK.

It looks like an older MASH set, currently out of stock on Amazon, has excellent reviews.

This is what im using and I think it's pretty awesome. I don't know if all the new ones are washable or not but if possible make sure you get the washable ones. When i got it, it came with a pack of wipes that you use before you use the epilator, and it helps a lot with the process.

I find that without the wipes, it's easier to get red bumps (that may or may not scar, i personally bruise and scar easily) from doing it too fast.

There is also this: http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=5952
which prevents ingrown hair.

u/Babybabybabyq · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If you’re gonna go for that, get an electric epilator. I got this one. . It hurts but nothing unbearable and you get used to the feeling with each use.
My hair has been permanently reduced by a lot, I would say 4/5 hairs follicles have been destroyed since I purchased it in September.

u/LurkLurkingstein · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

As for facial hair, have you tried Epicare? I'm not sure how effective it is, or if it's effective at all, but it looks easy to use. I see similar products to it in Wal-Mart all the time. Also, sugar wax. If this works for you, fuck yeah!

Anyway, I'm just like you. Tan skin with lots of dark hair. Light enough for people to see the hair, but too dark to get laser hair removal done. :/ The way I cope with it? I cover it up most of the time. I always wear pants and long-sleeved shirts because I'm usually too lazy, or can't be assed to shave/wax/whatever every week. If it's really hot outside, I'll wear a short-sleeved top, even if it exposes my arm hair. But it really kills my self-esteem when I see guys without arm hair, haha.

The Braun one does catch small hairs. Exactly why I like it. I use it for my upper lip too.
This one

Yo I’m from the Petscop subreddit stalking ur page LOL but I’m a cis lady with some horrible facial hair (my testosterone levels are twice the normal amount for a cis woman lol) and these are what I use:

Rechargeable Eyebrow Hair Remover Painless-Precision Eyebrow Trimmer Eyebrow Razor Tool For Face Lips Nose Facial Hair Removal for Men Women https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T6FMHDC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u8wQDbTZ3XQQ0

I have to use them legit two times a week because of how quickly my hair grows. The spring should get rid of the ingrown hairs!

Best of luck!

My legs are done with loofah + Soap mixed 50/50 volume with pumice then waxed with an epilator. the soap/pumice scrub exfoliates and removes all dead skin and opens pores. the epilator keeps a razor off my legs. this isn't for everyone, and i dare say it hurts a bit the first month or so, but totally worth it in the long run. besides all this, if you like having your legs clean and shaven, just keep the rest of your body hair to a minimum as much as you have time/opportunity to and shaved legs don't even register to people when you're pretty hairless otherwise. and if by chance someone asks me about my hairless self i just tell them that i think body hair is disgusting and i remove as much as can for cleanliness
