The reviews for this on Amazon are heartbreaking!

You have a LOT of options for this one, since it's pretty simple.
He has a little shine in it, so a water-based pomade/cream would work. I use this one per my barber's recommendation.
If you already have shiny/oily hair though, you don't want to add to the slickness. So use something with a medium hold and a matte finish, typically a clay or wax. I've heard good things about this one..
There's always American Crew Fiber too, if you want to keep it generic.
More importantly, not everyone can work this hairstyle. It's relatively short on top to be lying flat and soft like that; some people need more length to achieve that. If your hair is thicker/more rigid like mine is, trying this haircut will always fail and turn into a messy bedhead look to hide the cowlicks.
Ask your stylist if it's possible with your hair, and show them a picture of what you want.
My hair looked just like this when I was a kid, I feel this picture in my very bones. Her hair looks pretty similar to mine, so based on my experience:
Hope this helps!
conditioner
hair gel, 3 pack
olaplex
Edit: to be clear, olaplex is a one time treatment. Do it once. The rest of it is do all of the time stuff.
I use d:fi d:struct molding cream with Tresemme Tres two extra hold hairspray, then I just mess with my hair throughout the day as it gets greasier to mold it in a more natural way
I had this same problem and my hairstylist suggested Kevin Murphy- Easy Rider Cream
I’ve been using it for about a month and my hair is loads softer and no frizz. Definitely isn’t heavy and doesn’t add oil to your hair.
I only use about a nickel size amount while my hair is damp. But you can use it on dry hair as well. I apply it about three inches down from my roots to the ends. Bonus - it smells wonderful.
The whole container will probably last me 4-5 months. Maybe more.
here’s a good before/after of my hair.
I legit showed my barber this picture a few months back when I got my last cut. My hair is a bit longer than this. But you want to wash it, dry it (preferably blow dry) and then use a light styling cream. He gave me Easy Rider by Kevin Murphy. I've been blasting Kevin Murphy stuff on this sub recently because I really like his products. They're a bit expensive but they last a long time and work great. You may be able to find them cheaper at a high end salon, that's where I get mine. The Easy Rider cream doesn't offer too much of a hold but it will piece your hair together into flowing locks like this dude while keeping your hair looking natural and clean.
If you're having trouble with achieving the volume on top, I would suggest blow drying your hair once you've washed it, in the opposite direction of your normal hair part. Redirect the hair in the opposite direction and maybe use a bit of some fiber or pomade to style it in that direction. Continue drying your hair and try to almost lay it over in that wrong direction. After you've completely dried your hair and applied your product fully, swoop your hair back to its normal part. BAM! Your hair is confused... you just told it to go the other way for the past 15 mins! It's extremely voluminous and swoopy in the direction you like it! Use the Easy Rider cream to style and slick the sides as needed.
Your hair looks magical. Is this what you used?
I had hair down to my chin and had to clean the sides and back up for a new job. I did some research and found that the steps are: 1) Salt Spray 2) Blow dry 3) Paste / Clay 4) blow dry while combing back // I never had used product or blow-dried my hair in my life, but it does do wonders to get something like similar to this. I use the Hanz de Fuko Quicksand, and it works well.
Oh i think it will actually work if you delete the little ">" at the end. Like this. Hope that works
Sorry for formating, on mobile. Keep the comb over pompadour you got going on but do a really aggressive fade on the side. It will make your face look thinner and its a very good look. You can also go for a hard part if you want.
Examples
https://www.lustyfashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/pompadour-comb-over-fade.jpg

https://haircutinspiration.com/wp-content/uploads/comb-over-blackfishbry-500x649.jpg
Also have the fade go into your sideburns if you have them.
To do the hair up, blow dry out of shower to fairly dry. Apply gel (i like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F6IMIZG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_rwmUBb7N1A1BE ) and then comb into place and let set.
this stuff is all i use now.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005KL3B64/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1497735487&sr=8-1&keywords=redken+powder+grip+03
This is the magic fairy dust I use. it lasts forever. I have fine baby hair and most product weighs it down but if I sprinkle a bit of this into my roots and style it really adds lift. Sometimes I add it to loose makeup powder and use it as dry shampoo. If you have dark hair sub cocoa powder for the makeup powder
>Devcurl Ultra Defining Gel (mini) - I'm still playing with products now that my hair is curly (3A, I think? It just keeps getting curlier as I get older) and haven't tried a gel yet as I still have gel = awful crunch in my head.
I haven't used this particular product from DevaCurl, but I have used a LOT of their other stuff and I think it's all great.
That being said, LA Looks Sport Gel is a great gel for holding curls, and if you apply while your hair is wet and scrunch the curls around after your hair is dry you'll have minimal crunch to deal with. And of course it's waaaaaaay cheaper, which is a big plus for me.
I use DevaCurl Styling Cream. It's not too heavy for my hair (leaving in conditioner is as well as Shea Moisture products). It just gives my that slight extra push my hair needs. Not too heavy at all.
It's only $17 on Amazon. Really not that bad, consider the quality you're paying for. Also, you don't have to use shampoo much anymore so you save there.
Aww look at you. Told ya it'd be good! So much cleaner and you can see your face now. I use this to maintain a similar texture:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0050N4DLO/ref=pd_aw_sim_194_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51Gsw5VPB6L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C100_&refRID=14NJGXJASWWZ91EDJKCT
Again though, talking to a dude with curls so might not work as well! Got2bglued makes some nice inexpensive stuff too if you aren't as worried about natural (curls don't mix with silicone).
http://www.amazon.com/Moroccanoil-Curl-Defining-Cream-ounce/dp/B003RW2K0G> Moroccanoil curl defining cream
Is this the one? :)
Kevin Murphy Easy Rider has always worked well for me. I put it in, comb or push it back, blow dry for 30-60 seconds, and it looks natural and holds well.
This stuff is great, fantastic hold, matte finish and doesn't take much product at all to do its job.
Ok I was in the same situation. Work doesn't care about the beard, but I want to maintain a professional approach to work. So I heeded the advice of /r/beards awhile ago. Here's what I'll recommend:
Step 1 : Oil and/or Leave in conditioner
My current favorite http://www.amazon.com/DUCKBUTTER-Duck-Butter-Beard-Oil/dp/B00YZ5UWSQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449214132&sr=8-1&keywords=beard+oil+pack
http://www.amazon.com/Honest-Amish-Beard-Balm-Conditioner/dp/B009NNFB0O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449214332&sr=8-1&keywords=beard+leave+in+conditioner
On the days I shampoo and condition my beard I dont use the leave in. Other days I use the leave in. Oil everyday.
Step 2: Brush
http://www.amazon.com/Zeus-Bristle-Pocket-Beard-Brush/dp/B00LV31TVY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1449214502&sr=8-7&keywords=boars++hair+brush
Pick up a boars hair brush and get the product from step 1 deep in there.
Step 3: Paste
Current personal favorite:
http://www.amazon.com/Garnier-Fructis-Style-Clean-Finishing/dp/B0050N4DLO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449214605&sr=8-1&keywords=garnier+paste
This process leaves my beard straight and soft. I still have to deal with the odd hair sticking out, but it looks more professional.
I would recommend to stop brushing. If you really just want to brush, only do so when soaking wet. Apply your cream (and think about adding a gel or something to hold the curl better) to damp but not wet hair and diffuse or air dry and use a pick to help shape and get volume. As for sleep, try a silk pillow case like [this]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070U9GSU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or a hair buff to sleep in like this
ETA: My favorite products for my hair, which is similar to yours are Cantu Curl Activator and [LA Looks Gel] (https://www.amazon.com/LOOKS-SPORT-XTRME-HLD-Pack/dp/B005JT5XLI/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1518620771&sr=1-2&keywords=la+looks+hair+gel).
https://www.amazon.com/Devacurl-Ultra-Defining-Fluid-Ounce/dp/B01LBO9N7Y/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1524857578&sr=8-1&keywords=deva%2Bcurl%2Bgel&th=1 I believe it has wheat oats soy and hops in it but it also has a few other chemicals. Don't worry its paraben/sulfate/etc free.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KL3B64?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
This really really helps poof up my thin hair and lasts all day. It's awesome.
I'd suggest trying a few different products instead of the gel you're currently using. Play around until you find something you like. Most stores have great return policies, too. Here's some product suggestions: 1, 2, 3, 4
My hair has been pretty short since I was in middle school. In 2015 I stopped shampooing and straightening every day and would put coconut oil in my hair after every wash. Earlier this year I decided to grow it out, and this month I'm realizing that my old methods are no longer working with the length (the ends would look ok but middle and near scalp was poor)
I just ordered some;
They'll arrive on the weekend. I just used the last of my head and shoulders conditioner to practice a cowash and plopped my hair for the first time. My hair is super thick. I have a hard time dealing with itchy scalp and I'm worried that moving away from head and shoulders will make things worse. If anyone had any suggestions, please let me know
Here is a mattifying hair powder by Redken. I haven't personally used it, but the reviews are nice!
DevaCurl has a cream! http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006K26D9E/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
My latest thing is mixing it with the gel - 1 pump creme, and maybe a dot or two of gel. This gives it control without the crunch.
(I have a mix of 3a and 3b, with 3b on top)
If any one is curious I'm water only and I use a little bit of paste every morning.
I started the Boar hair brush the other day as well.
Thanks! I used a product that this guy recommended called Alterna Hemp Natural Strength Concrete. The stuff is amazing!
Maybe this stuff, it's all natural
Plus you can get it for like $3 at Target so it's not too big of a deal just to try it
https://www.amazon.com/Style-Sexy-Hair-Hard-Gel/dp/B00F6IMIZG?th=1
This stuff comes in varying sizes and has DAMN strong hold. I've run for miles in it and my hair has not moved; I have friends that use it before soccer matches and it keeps hair in place.
That brand ranks their hold on a scale of 1-10; that's their "10" hold product. It's a bit pricey, but it's a good brand and a good product. If you apply it to damp hair, you'll get a gelled, slick look. If you apply it to dry hair, it'll still be somewhat shiny, but will look more matte than otherwise.
GENTLEMEN, I know the answer: Curl cream. It keeps my curly long hair from being a fro while also laying with curl definition. It's better with long hair like http://imgur.com/IUyCRn9 but it all works. I also like Hair Milk.
Edit: correctly used the word 'definition'
If you're looking to splurge, this is the most bad-ass wax I've ever found. Beware-- it's practically cement. But I use less than a dime's worth for an entire day of styling, and it holds like... something that holds really well.
For days where you're not looking for cement so much, I love this by Garnier. Lots of tousle (even for my hair, which isn't nearly as short as yours) that holds while still being touchable. Smells amazing, too.
I use American Crew D:fi D:struct molding creme, and it has a surprising amount of hold. I have longer hair that falls down to just below my eye level with no product in, but this stuff manages to keep my hair pushed back and out of my face all day. I also use this sea salt spray sometimes.
Are you looking for /r/malehairadvice?
I'm no expert on hair but I recommend American Crew Gel IF you want to use products. Shuan White's hair looks like it pulls back alot, so try combing your hair back daily or just gel it back. You can also wear a beanie or hat or something in the morning to help pull it back
Other than that, your lengths are good, keep parting it like you do.
Honestly it looks fine man haha. Ask the guys at /r/malehairadvice though
Hi, fellow curlies! Long time lurker, but I created a separate account to show off my 3a/3b work in progress! I’ve divided this up into sections because it’s definitely of TL;DR length, so skip right to the routine part if that’s what you’re after.
HAIR STATS
Mostly very strong 3a, but there’s a good chunk of something approaching 3b at the crown.
Really thick, I can’t use small hair clips or ties, even with it being shorter. It feels like it’s become a tad less thick, maybe due to age (I’m in my 30s).
Last cut in March (8 months ago), it’s a shorter curly cut that’s growing out but still looks decent.
Highlights and color applied at last cut. The highlights were subtle, the color was close to my natural hair color to help cover the whites coming in.
No flat iron/high heat for the last 4+ years. Most heat I’ve used is a dryer on low with bursts of cold air.
No “bad” products for the last 4+ years. It’s only been curly approved products with no traditional shampoo! Only No Poo with the occasional clarifying shampoo.
Very dry climate. So dry here I have a sinus moisturizing gel I shove up my nose before bed to avoid nosebleeds. I know most curlies hate the humidity but I wish I had a little bit, I think my hair would benefit.
Hair washed once weekly, twice weekly at most. More often during the week if I’m exercising (which I haven’t done much of lately, hah), but coarse/dryer hair + very dry climate = fewer washings. I do a lazy pineapple to pin it up when I do quick body-only showers.
HAIR HISTORY
It’s a story that’s all too familiar here: My hair was NOT cool as a kid— the 90s were not nice to big hair, and I was also one of the only “ethnic” people in super white schools. When in its natural state, it was almost nothing but fuzz and it almost looked like I had an afro. Stylists had no clue what to do with my hair, so the cuts never helped. Of course, I hated it, and I spent my teens and early 20s straightening it, tying it back, or clipping it into this nasty rat’s nest on the top of my head to get it off my face.
I first heard about the curly method in 2009 or 2010. Even though that wasn’t THAT long ago, the spectrum of products we have available now versus then is night and day. With my limited hair understanding, I took the plunge and went natural, but it didn’t look so great. I stuck with it, though, mostly out of laziness because life got really busy and stressful. Straightening my hair literally takes hours, so laziness won. Used to use DevaCurl No Poo and One Condition in the shower before crunching in the DevaCurl Light Defining Gel. Never experimented with other stuff because, again, I was lazy and busy.
Recently, my hair was going limp and was feeling greasy no matter what I did, so I started reading through the links in this subreddit and experimenting with newer products now that my life has slowed down. I bought a few new products based on recommendations here, and what I outline below is after playing around with a few different things for the last couple of months.
NEW "ROUTINE"
“Routine” is in quotations because routine suggests I do this with regularity when this is the first time I’ve done this whole “routine” as outlined below.
I realized I last clarified my hair when my hairdresser cut it several months ago, so I figured it was time to clarify. The pics are from last night, a couple of hours after washing.
GOALS
I’m happy with my hair, but I have some things to work on:
Wow, that was a novella. Thanks for reading, and best of curls to you all!
I don't follow CG method but I use certain products to come up with my own routine.
Hair Wash Day-
Step 1: I comb through and massage my scalp and hair with Avocado Oil and use the Vanity Planet Scalp Massage and let it soak in for an hour. I specially use more oil on the ends.
Step 2: I use a hot towel to steam my hair a few times by the end of the hour
Step 3: Use OGX Biotin and Collagen Shampoo to wash off the oil.
Step 4:Condition with Cantu Hydrating Cream Conditioner
Step 5: Use a microfiber head wrap or a tshirt to remove excess water
Step 6: I then use a couple of dollops of Miss. Jessie's Pillow Soft Curl Cream and scrunch my hair .
Step 7, for the top of my head hair I use Frizz Ease serum and comb through and make it sit in place with Bobby pins(This makes the top part straight without me having to use heat at all)
Step 8: I let it dry naturally

Days following the wash:
--Post-Workout Care: I workout a lot and sweat in the scalp like cray-cray so I always wet my hair completely after the workout and use the already existing products in the hair to set it back, letting it dry naturally.
--Days after wash morning routine: I braid my hair at night and when I wake up the curls are almost always intact. But I do use a spray bottle already mixed with a few drops of Curl cream and re-scrunch the curls and let dry naturally.
--Next wash Schedule? -- I usually wash on day 3 with just Cantu's scalp rinse and use the conditioner. But like today if I don't have the time, I wet my hair completely by spraying water all over in sections and follow Step 6,7 and 8.

I do the deep oil conditioning atleast once a week. That is the only time I use the shampoo. For every following wash after the oil conditioning I use Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Conditioner instead of regular conditioners.
It was the LA Looks extreme sport gel. I'm using about a palm-full since my hair is fairly short right now.
Aquage transforming paste is the best product for hair I've ever heard of. One tube will last you for months.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E5JXYLO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AY7ANI2TLJEJ1
My hair is really straight. I've tried wax, pomade, and spray. Nothing holds my hair in place like Hard Up Gel.
link
I actually only shampoo about once a week. I use a little bit of American Crew forming cream for casual looks and sometimes add Aquage Transforming Paste and maybe some hairspray. Using a blow drier goes a long way as well.
http://www.amazon.com/American-Crew-Styling-33-8-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B002N5MIF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369085637&sr=8-1&keywords=american+crew+gel
What do you guys think about it? I don't see anything wrong with the ingredients and hair gels wash out well.
This is one of my favorite beauty items on Amazon. I have super curly hair, and this is one of the only things that can tame my lion mane. If you have uncontrollable curly hair, the above product and THIS work WONDERS
I LOVE painting my nails. I love playing with nail polish and being a total girl. Here are some of my own nail creations on my Pinterest :) I'm also a huge fan of bananas (and Peanut Butter).
Also, I'll totally give you my address as long as you don't like personally deliver it to me without notice...
Okay forgive me - cause this is gonna be a novel ha ha!
I, like you, HAVE TO work out in the morning or my workouts just won't get done & fought the same battle! I hear you!!!
Note: If you switch to a sulfate free shampoo you've got to wash your hair twice! That's the key or it'll end up looking just as greasy as before.
I have this same exact haircut except it flows to the left rather than the right.
I would actually recommend against American Crew Fiber pending on the hair texture. A friend told me to try it out because it can be so fool proof (and it really is at time) but was just too light to actually form the hair I wanted. My thicker hair needed more of a moose than a wax substance. My hairstylist handed me Kevin Murphy Easy Rider and it has worked fantastic so far. Doesn't require a lot to keep the hair perfectly smooth and still for 24 hours.
I use the Devacurl Ultra Defining Gel https://www.amazon.co.uk/DevaCurl-Ultra-Defining-Gel-355/dp/B01LBO9N7Y

The recommend gel in the quick guide is the LA Looks Extreme Sport Gel but in the holy grail product list on the sidebar that gel is colored yellow (a warning product).
Should I be concerned about using said gel? It has parabens in it, which I assume is why it is colored yellow.
I could use more product probably. I use this shampoo and conditioner.

My husband has had good luck with cleansing conditioners. Right now he's using this one from Carol's Daughter.
Jumping on OP's comment about how you style. I'm a fellow wavy and I just realized this last week by mistake that if I let my hair air dry for a while after a shower (I've started with 30 mins but plan to work up) before applying any products it seems to give my curls more time to 'develop' without product or water weighing them down...anyway just a thought! Also here's some links to the styling products I've been using for a while:
Gel
Curl Cream
Curl Cream #2 (I like to do a mixture of both curl creams because I'm not a fan of the first one on it's own but I do like them together.)
> If youre not happy with the result, try blow drying with cold air after application for a stronger hold.
So blow dry before and after? Or just after application?
Also, were you refering to this concrete or this one?
Yay! Then maybe if your hair needs clarifying from the water you could buy that other shampoo you found.
Last time I was in real humidity for an extended period of time I used this one. It was pretty good, but I was really on the go so I wasn't being super critical of my hair, so I can't give it a full review.
I was in a slightly humid place and bought the DevaCurl gel and it worked great! But it was more so drizzly rather than wicked humid.
creme does not hold up as well as gel does, but i think it looks nicer, on my hair at least.
Maybe you could find a picture of what you want your hair to look like to give me an idea? Like what is your goal, what would you want your hair to look like.
It sounds like you might want more...volume? Your hair seems more on the fine side and like a 3B/3C. I follow the curly girl method, you can learn more about that on the sidebar. I use Yes to Carrots Conditioner, but I'll be stopping that when the new formula makes it to the local grocery stores (they just started adding silicones, but old formula, which is still available near me, doesn't have that in it). And I use Curls Goddess Curls for gel. For creme, I use whatever I find on sale that fits curly girl friendly.
Gel is great for humidity, it also is lighter and helps curls curl better. Cream is heavier, better for dryer conditions because it adds moisture, but it's heavier and will loosen curls.
And you have to find the right balance of conditioner so your hair isn't too weighed down, but also isn't frizzy. For your hair, I'd think a poker chip size amount of conditioner would do and then half of that for the styling product.
shampoo balsamo e gel .
Shampoo e gel (300ml) sono durati forse 4-5 mesi mentre il balsamo (900ml) lo uso ancora ma ne è rimasto 1/10 (comprati un anno fa)
If you want something really infuriating of this nature, look up amazon reviews for the product called Hot Stampz. All of them say it's a total rip-off and the tubes are barely even filled with gel and the stuff that is in it is all dried up anyway.
Link for the lazy
The American Crew gel fits your needs; low shine, good hold, and easy to wash off. For this you definitely have to run your fingers through your hair after it dries. The hold is good but doesn't give much body to the hair. The OGX matte finish bamboo fiber has been my true American Crew Fiber replacement. Low shine, good hold (not as good as the gel I linked), and easy to wash off.
American Crew Firm Hold Gel
OGX Matte Finish Bamboo Fiber
Gel.
After it dries, break up the crunch.
True! Okay so i use OGX coconut milk sulfate free shampoo (when I need it) and conditioner, which I've never had a problem with before. And if I just use those, I'm okay. I use this sometimes, which before I had long hair was okay -Curls Goddess Curl Gel but sometimes I use Not Your Mother's Sea Salt Spray if my curls are more relaxed into a wave. I'm anywhere from a 2b to a 3a, just depends on what it's feeling hahaha. My curls get heavy really easily, so I try not to weigh them down besides the obvious of growing them out. I put either product in after I get out and lightly pat dry my hair, and kinda scrunch or whatever plopping motion that is to lightly distribute the product. I try to stay away from the hair under by my neck and by the edges of my face to avoid breakouts, but here we are. Haha. That's about it. They're fairly low maintenance curls/waves.
Baxter of California, it ain't cheap though.
It's what I currently use for my hair style. Try to use sparingly.
Before even using the clay pomade, it's ideal to have your hair the way you want it first. Try using something lighter before hand (a dab or more of pomade) in order to set up your hair the way you want it to, then use the clay pomade to hold it.
A blow dryer helps the process a ton (use it when styling your hair with the lighter pomade).
You can always search for hair styling tips on you tube if you want more help.

I may have been criticizing fellow barber texture paste, too much. It deserves considerable respect for being the best I've found yet. The only reason I don't think it's "the one" is because I'm still holding out for some miracle product -but that may just be unrealistic expectations lol
Without a doubt try fellow barber, you won't regret it. It gave my thin hair noticeably thicker, fuller body and the right amount of hold that kept the hair looking natural, but in place. Never had a product do all that so well before.
A big improvement came from using this shampoo/conditioner by Arvazallia. My whole life, every time I ran out of shampoo, I'd buy a different brand to test if it was better. The Arvazallia one I found by sorting Amazon results by highest rated. It's also the only shampoo I've gone back to instead of trying new ones because I liked the results so much. It's the smoothest my hair's ever been, but I wonder if it couldn't be fuller.
I just did some online research and purchased these to see how they help with thin hair, too:
HotStamps
I am still no poo. I mainly do the "water only" method. Every two weeks I wash my scalp with this shampoo bar.
I find that my curls have been more defined without conditioner as well. But once a month I use this Lush hair treatment.
For anyone interested my method is:
I love my hair now.
