Das gibt's wirklich: antistatisches Armband. Wird beim Löten von empfindlichen Schaltungen eingesetzt. (Z.B. bei Amazon)

I have an injury on my forearm that I need to wear something like an athletic wristband on for a few months. Normally I have no issue with that, but what about for business professional events? Is it better to wear the arm band or a more medical looking wrap so it’s more obvious that it’s for an injury?

I got DeQuervain's from at home work where I type on my computer all day. It's not from breastfeeding, but hopefully my experience helps a little bit. I ended up getting a wrist brace off of amazon so that I could put pressure where it hurt. And I wore that for like 2 weeks straight, even while I was sleeping, and eventually it went away. Sometimes my wrist hurts and I have to use the brace again, but for the most part it cleared it up.

This is the brace I bought: https://www.amazon.com/BraceUP%C2%AE-Adjustable-Wrist-Support-Black/dp/B00ZMZPGMK/ref=sr_1_8_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1510593340&sr=1-8&keywords=wrist+brace&dpID=410Sgr5vp9L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Question about wrist wraps, I've been using these https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Quality-Spot-Lion-Fitness/dp/B074CVNHL2 for my training, but they are not IPF approved. I'm looking for an IPF approved product similar to these. For those not familiar with this particular set, they are 18", the fabric is pretty cloth-y, which I like. I've tried the SBD stiff wraps before and those were ridiculously uncomfortable for me, to give you an idea of what I'm looking for. Thank you in advance

Rød grød med fløde.

This wrist brace is reasonably priced - infact it is the most inexpensive I have seen this style and for some reason I can't find it locally.

These links are all examples from a quick google search. I'm not endorsing anything in particular. There is a nice terse discussion of braces at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK279596/

There are rigid ( http://verinaegypt.com/shop/rigid-wrist-brace/ ) and soft/nonrigid ( https://www.amazon.com/Comfortable-Adjustable-Arthritis-Tendinitis-Compression/dp/B07PKBCD72) wrist braces. The primary difference is that rigid braces have plastic or metal stays in them to actively prevent the wrist from getting into a bad posture.

Rigid braces are generally bad to use while working as they prevent you from making normal motions that your job probably requires. So, you end up fighting with the brace (increased force) and get into an even worse posture trying to get the job done. Prolonged use of rigid splints also prevents you from going through the normal range of motion that your wrist needs to stay healthy! Only wear a right brace at work if your Dr has recommended it. Often rigid braces are recommended for night use to keep you from bending your wrists for prolonged periods while sleeping.

Nonrigid braces (or "wrist supports"), at least, don't fight you as much when you're moving your hand. Instead, they "encourage" a more straight posture. These are worn more during work.

Unfortunately, the cause of musculoskeletal disorders is generally overuse so getting better means reducing the exposure. "Overuse" here means spending a lot of time doing repetitive work in a bad posture and/or with high force.Depending on your job, doing some work to get a good ergo setup (tips: https://www.rsiprevention.com/rsi_prevention.php) can really reduce the posture/force exposures.

Unfortunately, once the wrist is symptomatic, it may take a while to "calm down." During that time, symptoms can occur with much less exposure. Even the squeezing of the brace on your wrist can exacerbate things. Computer users with symptoms on only one side

You can start with a simple wrist brace to help support your wrist. I've had wrist pain since high school and one like this give me enough support without affecting my throw.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JK7G72/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wDuMDb795AMVQ

The other thing is of course to take it easy when you do start feeling pain. You dont want to develop a chronic injury you're going to have to deal with for the rest of your life.

The other thing is to think about getting your own ball. Having one that is drilled for your hand really helps because you are forced to grip as hard and relieves some of the stress on your hand and wrist. You could move up to a 12-14 lb easily with one that is drilled for you.

Have a look at those: http://www.amazon.de/Durable-Handgelenkauflage-450-blau-5704-06/dp/B000KJKH4A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425234126&sr=8-1&keywords=durable+handgelenkauflage

Nich so weit von den Grifiti-Pads weg und leider nur in Blau verfügbar aber ganz bequem und haltbar.

I just use a basic wrist brace that I bought from cvs. Here's the amazon link: Futuro Energizing Wrist Support, Right Hand, Small/Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004LK2E90/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_l4xDybBS01ACN

It doesn't give a ton of support, but it's enough to make a difference for me and still allow enough movement that I can keep stitching while I'm wearing it.

I bought this one after not finding a right-y at my local drug store.

It’s comfortable but not helping my symptoms which is why I have an appointment with an ortho next week.

I don't get staph but I regularly get itchy, inflamed skin irritation from the gi rubbing against my skin. Not sure if it's a heat rash, eczema, or what. I used to get it in high school sports from the pads, now that I'm in my 30s I don't get it from anything other than jiu jitsu. And it's almost always limited to areas of exposed skin, eg. wrists, hands, feet. Here's what works for me:

Cover as much of your skin as you can. That means long sleeve rashguards and compression pants, and I also wear soft thumb braces on my hands because they cover the areas in which I get breakouts. Don't shower just prior to training (I've heard this washes away "good" bacteria that helps defend against infections) but shower as immediately afterward as you can.

As you said, lotion is a must for inflamed areas. I go through heaps of the stuff.

Good luck brother.

I got mine on Amazon for $17 and they have been great. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IJJXS4O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_S8CsEVecebexv

I have pretty bad pain at the base of my thumbs--the CMC joint. My hand specialist (orthopedic surgeon) said the pain is from joint laxity. It moves too much. The dr referred me to a physical therapist and I got the Push brace. https://www.amazon.com/Push-MetaGrip-Right-Relief-Osteoarthritis/dp/B00GTXCMCG

I'm still not used to the brace, but it's apparently very well liked by others.

u/genivae · 2 pointsr/knitting

Stretches and posture! A support glove helps, too. If I knit for more than an hour without these on, my carpal tunnel starts to act up. I think they just help keep good posture more than anything, but whatever works!

  • Change chair or table height

  • Get a chair with armrests

  • Get a wrist-rest in-front of the keyboard to minimize height difference from wrists and finger tips

  • Get an immobilizing wrist brace for when you sleep

  • Do hand exercises

All of these things have greatly helped me. Consult your doctor, too.

I suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome a few years back and had braces for night time use - so when I started having issues through this pregnancy (can't make a fist in the morning, numbness, pain, tingling...etc) I pulled out the braces and wear them at night. They've fixed most of the issue. I still get some numbness during the day depending on what I do but it is no where near as bad.

**EDIT - something like these - https://www.amazon.com/Support-Adjustable-Breathable-Arthritis-Tendinitis/dp/B00IJJXS4O/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468322660&sr=8-2&keywords=Carpal+Tunnel+Splints

I have preexisting tendonitis and just picked up these. It's light support but I have full mobility so it's a nice middle ground.

I busted mine in a crash last summer pretty badly and it swelled up nearly golf ball sized that day. Went to an ortho the next day for X-rays and had sprained the UCL pretty badly and fractured some tiny bones that don’t really matter. Sounds like mine was much worse than yours and they just gave me a brace similar to this:

CMC Joint Thumb Arthritis Brace - Restriction Stabilizing Splint for Osteoarthritis and Other Thumb Pain Relief - Small - Left Hand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGF8V8S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eVVSCbB2YD344

(Make sure you get the correct hand since it’s non-reversible.)

Just wear that nearly all the time (I showered with mine even) for a while (I think I went 2–4 weeks so probably not as long for you) and keep icing as the inflammation can sometimes further strain the ligament. Don’t try to see how far you can bend your thumb for a while.

I was riding my bike trainer with the brace on after a week probably and back on my MTB (after a few false starts) maybe a month and a half later.

Now nine months after injury and my thumb is still not 100% but continues to get better. I mostly just try to make sure i don’t do anything that pulls on it (phone typing can even be bad if I’m not careful). Hurts after rides and still throbs randomly at work or other places, but it works now.

Good luck — heal up and don’t push it!

Edited to add: if you’re not wearing a brace in everyday life and want to make sure you don’t end up pulling the thumb back just hold your hand in the “OK” position. That’s my default way of holding my busted thumb’s hand now.

u/YasianMaster · 1 pointr/Bowling

About 2 years ago I had CT in my non-bowling wrist. Funny enough, at the time, I bought a new phone and because of the shape and how I held it, I developed CT. I got the wrist support that stabilizes your thumb. Similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Thumb-Splint-Wrist-Brace-Immobilizer/dp/B07DXM7Y2F

Saw the doctor, took some anti-inflammatory and it luckily went away shortly after.

The past 2 months, my bowling arm wrist has developed CT. This one isn't as painful and it actually does not hurt while in the motion of bowling. It does hurt other times, a lot.

I can't bowl with that wrist support that stabilizes your thumb. I went looking around and found this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PFUPRQ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

I cannot say this is the answer, I am still using it, but the pain has slowly gone away and I do feel support when I bowl. Its difficult to 'recommend', but it seems to be helping.

u/kettal · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

I don't have any experience with those ones. I have used this and from the look of it is probably more secure. The velcro will still peel off if you bend it too much. If you are looking for something which won't come off at all then this is what you want, it has metal splints which can easily be taken out.

It's just a cheapo thing I got from Amazon: click me

I do like it quite a bit, however it seems a bit low because the keyboard is so high. I might elevate it a bit further using a mouse pad or something similar.

I got professionally fitted by my OT for my right and left, but could only afford 1 at the time. I’d highly recommend you size yourself before buying.

u/aolsux00 · 1 pointr/AskDocs

If you're really worried about it, just wear a brace while you play. I like this one the best: http://www.amazon.com/Futuro-Energizing-Wrist-Support-Medium/dp/B004LK2E90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426411356&sr=8-1&keywords=Futuro+Energizing+Wrist+Support%2C+Right+Hand%2C+Small%2FMedium

I wouldn't worry about it unless you feel pain or have numbness sometimes.
