We use this heater: Vornadobaby Sunny Nursery Heater https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PXH6PD6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fh2IAbNV5CY8V

No idea why it’s so expensive, right now. It has a switch on the bottom that turns it off if it’s tipped over and switches off if it gets obstructed. Our LO’s room is at the back of the house, faces northeast so it doesn’t get sunlight in the afternoon/evening, has only one vent, and has two outside walls. It does wonders, our girl is still in a crib though, but it has never felt hot to the touch.

If you don't have the wood yet you might be in a pinch. I burn wood to heat our house all winter, but definitely not anywhere near -30c. How much wood depends on the type of wood. Each species has a different BTU rating. Some burn hot and fast others are low and slow. I tend to use both. I like Poplar to get the stove warm and Oak to bank it all night.

I cut my own wood but if you don't you will need to be careful of sellers saying it is seasoned. A true seasoned piece of wood will be cut and split (generally) for a year. Some sellers will cut and split in the late spring/early summer and try to sell it in the winter. That won't cut it for most guys burning wood. I highly suggest investing into an inexpensive moisture meter. Split a piece of any wood that you are buying and test it. I try to burn at 20% or less.

Also, it might be really helpful for you to get a wall mounted propane heater. They are inexpensive (under $150 at the local big box store or on Amazon). Keep it on a thermostat to kick on if the wood fire goes out. Really helpful on punishing days. If you get the smaller 100 lb tanks you can take them to the filling station and have them filled cheaper than delivery.

Oh and get a carbon monoxide detector. If need to make sure you have enough fresh air in your house to support your wood burning stove and your ability to breathe!

I keep a couple of these in my rig. They work great and have no problem keeping All 31’ toasty. Dr. Infrared Heater DR-838 Family Red Ceramic Space Heater with Adjustable Thermostat https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015DZ2V6C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gNofAb77J7DK5

Sure, but it will void the warranty and you run risk of fire damage.

How much cheaper do you want to go than $135? Stop being a cheapskate and buy the proper thermostat for the product.

You've already paid way more than you need to have. Schluter has the same size cable for $200 less.

It costs $89.95. But currently its out of stock. If someone interested you can see more details here.

I can get the heat packs for MRE's for less than a dollar a piece so swapping out the meal for a pouched meal that could be heated would be as easy fix, and still have my cost at about $5.

Bottom line is the military pays massively more than they should for most things because it would be unpatriotic for anyone to question their budget. Eisenhower told us this would happen and we ignored him.

u/coredumperror · 2 pointsr/teslamotors

Great meme. :)

Shit, you're right. And the wasted energy goes to heat. I wonder what a 10-15kW space heater feels like?

It might also be pretty hard to make a rising charger, since these are often built in parking structures with not-particularly-thick floors. You might need to dig too much space out below the parking spot to make room for the riser mechanism.

If its broken and have to replace it, would this be a good solution?

I'm in USA just FYI

How about one of these glass panel heaters? I don't know much about the ones available in the US, such as the one I linked, but I've had pretty good experiences with similar products here in Europe.

For intermittent use (i.e. not leaving it on all day) - electric heaters are great: clean, simple to install, and safe. You just need enough wattage to make it work. Don’t bother with the 1500w heaters - you want 5000w minimum. I have this in my 2-car garage and it cost about $400 total (parts and labor):

I have something similar - they are covers for in ground heating via hot water pipes - the covers don't get hot during the winter but the pipes inside do and tot covers are def sharp -I've been also looking into how to deal with them. If I didn't rent and I wanted to actually improve the property vs living in a holding pattern to save money I'd look into these style covers ( https://www.amazon.com/Baseboard-Heater-Cover-COMPLETE-SET/dp/B0757YWJK9 )

that would stop baby fingers from gettign in there and trying to grab the radiator grills etc

However - what I will do is buy a roll of window screening and some painters tape and just cut strips of screen to tape over the holes for now so no fingers get in and no holes get blocked. that and make sure that I put furniture in the way so my twins can't get at them (two 7 month olds that are starting to roll a lot and will be into everything by the time the cold weather gets here)

I connected it to a 100lb propane tank on my back porch. Instead of renting it and dealing with having it refilled off a truck, I can just take it to my local RV dealer and pay around $50 to refill it.

Check out cartridge heaters, they are just a resistor but packaged and wired up for doing this sort of thing. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008SA7J08/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_R2RDwb1W3VDQ6

They also come in 12V-compatible varieties: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TD0MO7U/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_64RDwb0WWW7RD
