Hell yeah man. Not stupid at all. You should be proud of this space! And you fucking Tetris-ed the fuck out of that couch back there so be even more proud!

If I could suggest one thing, look into getting a little bookshelf for your pc and PS4. We have similar setups and I got a bookshelf to hold my PS4 and PC and it fits that case perfectly (fractal define r4?). Here is the link to [amazon](Winsome Wood 3-Shelf Wide Shelving Unit, Espresso https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NPTXNW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_K9iTybACJ6ZQ2)

Anyway, great setup and enjoy the space!

Labeled ziplock gallon baggies all thrown into a big plastic tub. Something like this rack
is what we use at my office for storing old servers/switches and our tubs of cables. We tend to keep all our replacement or backup parts like drives, mobos, etc in the boxes they came in or failing that a random cardboard box.

Here you go! There are several configurations to choose from!

Actually, this crap level of work comes from owner-influenced lowest level budgeting and my own lack of networking experience. Initially the owner wanted to use plastic gardening crates, but I helped swing to wire racks to avoid the massive fire hazard. I appreciate your comments.

Computers are wire rack mounted (like these http://www.amazon.com/Alera-Complete-Shelving-Caster-Anthracite/dp/B005SG1FE6). Try not to laugh. Racks are up against the side of the wall, holes are cut for individual components so they exhaust into the hot aisles. Exhaust fans on the exterior walls assist and create a vacuum so the hot aisles don't leak heat. Standard air conditioners in every other aisle. Please don't even mention the HVAC issues, I know. This is what Facebook might have looked like if Mark Zuckerberg didn't have financing or any knowledge of networking principles.

The only reason we haven't used patch panels is that we don't know how everything will lay out against the wall, and want to avoid a conflict of space, but I have to admit that they would look a lot better than having a tiny hole drilled out for each individual cable.

This is a high risk investment, so it doesn't really make sense to dump a ton of additional money into proper server networking solutions when functionally we can accomplish the same with a little more elbow grease and wood. If and when the money starts rolling in, the next stage will definitely take advantage of the comments I've read here.

Any thoughts? Still think I should just walk away? It's a long ways home from Japan.

I bought a few of these:
5-tier shelf
3-tier shelf

And you can combine and extend them however you want 🙂

You got it my friend!

Shelving - $90

Shelf Cover - $30

Landscape Fabric - $33

Storage Totes (6 pack) - $50

Local Temp/Humidity Gauges (12 pack) - $23

Incubation Tote Filters - $10

Sterlite Medium Stacking Basket (6 pack) - $15

Humidifier - $26

Standard Fan - Already Owned

Sonoff R2 Wifi Switches (4 pack) - $23

Sonoff TH16 Sensor Switch - $20

1500W Immersion Heater - $45

Standard Cooler w/ Drain - Already Owned

In total, it was a $350 project that could definitely have been done for cheaper, but I wanted to design it in a way that made it as painless as possible to turn my cardboard into mushrooms.

Also, I have an old space heater/fan combo that I intend to use when the temperature starts to drop. I plan to automate it with one of the Sonoff Wifi switches and control it with the Sonoff temp sensor.

As many have said, Baskets that are clear or where you can put a label would work well for miscellaneous items and items that group well together like sauces. I would use a can dispenser like this one since you have the room. If it was me I would definitely get a few roll out trays for a few of the lower shelves, that is if you can. It would make getting to the things in the back easier, specially for items you use almost daily. Clear stack-able containers are great for seeing what you have, I see you have one clear bin, those are good for pulling out things like spices and sauces. They make it easy for pulling out and putting back when your done.

From Amazon, I buy this: https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-UltraDurable-Commercial-Grade-NSF-Certified/dp/B00B7E8Y9M/

Then I buy another extra set of pillars and wheels and use the extra shelves to make another shelving stand for my other 2 Detolfs.

u/Skitch_n_Sketch · 3 pointsr/audiophile

Looks like the Pangea Vulcan in Rosenut. I can only find the espresso colorway on Amazon though.

Best thing I could find (10.7 x 18.4 x 8)

The only thing I would worry about is the little ones chewing on the coating, this size should cover 1/3 long ways.

Also you may be able to use the hooks on this not only as a stand but you could make very small holes and hook it to add even more room.

However if this doesn't work, you could add adhesive hooks so you can use cage hooking items like this

If the hooks aren't what you want then you can add items like these:

Best Option

Wooden Balcony

Platform

Platform and Swing

Platform and Swing - The Squeequel

I really hope this will help you and the little ones out!

Edit: Forgot to add this one

These ClosetMaid shelves would be perfect for your space!

They have little hooks that hook onto the shelf that’s at the top of the closet (they’re flexible so they can hook onto the bars even if they’re an odd width apart), and then they can also hook onto each other.

We currently have four of them hanging from the top wire shelf in our closet (one from the shelf itself, then three more extending down below that), and they’re great for open-front storage that’s easy to see and access. Ours our being used for clothes right now. I have them set up so that the side walls are vertical and not on an angle, but you’ve got options.

Just roughly eyeballing your space from the picture, it looks like you should be able to fit two rows of the hanging shelves side by side, if you wanted to (they’re 17” wide).

I’ve taken the ones I’ve got with me through the last four moves; most places have some type of wire shelving, so they’d be useful beyond just your current apartment. They can take a lot of weight (in one place I had them stacked four deep holding bottles of liquids, and they didn’t bend or break at all), and they nest neatly inside each other in a standard size moving box when it’s time to move.

There’s also a link on the Home Depot page to a similar type of hanging shelf that’s 24” wide, but it looks like it doesn’t have real side walls/a back wall. The ones I linked that we use are like baskets, so they’d be great for the papers/books/binders/office supplies you mentioned.

ETA: Looks like they’re a little more than $3 cheaper per piece on Amazon. The fourth picture on the Amazon listing is how we have ours set up, only with additional baskets below it.

Here is a run down that should be helpful:

  • My Figure Collection is the main site for keeping track of your collection and also looking up figures

  • Nyaa Figurines and Neko Magic are good for checking on new releases

  • The most popular case is the Ikea Detolf. As for bookcases/shelves, I would recommend these: Simpli Home Ladder Shelf, Winsome Wood Wide Shelf, Winsome Wood Narrow Shelf, and Furinno Corner Shelf

  • The Ikea Dioder LED lights are popular for lighting the cases, but I prefer these LED lights as they are stronger and cool white (even the multi-color Ikea Dioder doesn't do a true cool white)

  • The most popular scale figure companies are Good Smile Company (GSC), Alter, Max Factory, FREEing, and Kotobukiya; STAY AWARY FROM GRIFFON FIGURES!

  • I would recommend pre-ordering from AmiAmi, HLJ, or Hobby Search

  • For ordering already released figures, you can check the above sites and also Mandrake, Plamoya, and NY

  • If you can't find a figure on an English site, you can either use a proxy service or forwarding service to order from Japanese sites. Proxy services buy the item and then ship it to you. Forwarding services is where you buy the item and have it shipped to them and then they will forward it on; useful for sites that won't ship outside Japan. Big in Japan is good for these services.

  • As for wall scrolls, I would recommend staying away from eBay and Amazon, these are usually not official wall scrolls and the quality is a lot lower. I've actually been making my own wall scrolls and using this Custom Wall Scroll site to have them made. The print and material quality is really good and this way you can get the exact wall scroll you want.

Here is what I used. 2 wire shelves. 1 shelf holds 4x 8 card rigs (last rig sits in the front 'exhaust' area on top of a normal PC box). 1 shelf holds the fans that blow on the rigs. Air is blown over the rigs and to the front of the tent, and exhaust fans placed in that area for exhaust.

Aw mr zip is so freakin cute! :)

And dang now that I looked closely the living room looks tiny. I think a good entertainment stand would be some like this , you could mount it or put it on the stand but ideally I think the tv should be at eye level so you don’t strain your neck.

And as for rugs I would recommend a dark color. I would get a solid color personally but I understand that’s boring for others but something like this.

I think these shelves would help you out a lot.

And I honestly don’t know where I would put mr zip. Cause in the pics i can’t tell if you would have enough room there for him and the couch. Do you have a pic of the couch under the stairs? Like if you were to stand in front of it?

u/JustARogue · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

I just got another one of these for my brewing equipment.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005SG1FE6/

I have two more of something very similar for other garage storage purposes. They work great.

u/Bunnies-and-Sunshine · 2 pointsr/vegetablegardening

You could look into a metal tall-boy rack for placing plants on. They can hold quite a bit of weight and you can adjust their height to suit your needs. Usually these are used indoors because you can set up ballast lighting by wiring it onto the rack's shelves.

u/PrometheusSmith · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I use one shelf from one of these units to set the tower on. I have a medium pile carpet and it keeps it off and clean.

They are available at nearly all home improvement stores as well as Walmart.

u/kinenchen · 1 pointr/Rabbits

There's a lady who breeds lionhead mixes here in Miami who had a similar problem with her babies looking frail (and coming down with Coccidioides from soiled hay) until she started offering them fresh alfalfa every day in a basket she hangs on the side of their hutch. It's worth a try.

u/din_the_dancer · 1 pointr/curledfeetsies

Probably some sort of generic wire shelving unit like this

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

Utility shelf

Holds 150lbs per shelf though I question if you can fit a carboy in there.

My suggestion would be to build your own. You can use this or this aquarium stand as inspiration. All you need is some 1/2" ply, some 2x4s and screws/drill.

Depending on what you're going to do with your laptop (i.e. are you going to be watching movies on it, or coding while you walk?), you might be able to get away with using something like this, depending on the height of your treadmill. I only watch movies/documentaries on the laptop, so it doesn't have to be directly in front of me.

A guy I used to work with built a custom laptop holder that goes over his treadmill, and he codes while he walks.

u/hikelsie · 1 pointr/orchids

Depends on the size of the orchids. I have a wide variety: a small group of minis, a couple of whoppers, but mostly average sized phals. It holds most of my collection, about 30 orchids. The top shelves held my tall girls, like dendrobiums and oncidiums. The lower shelves were a little short for them.

If you were just doing phals, you could easily fit 18-25. Just minis, probably 27-35. Wide or large orchids, 9-12.

I also have another shelf that they sit on that holds roughly the same. I like them both equally: https://www.amazon.com/Costway-Multifunctional-Customizable-Utility-Bathroom/dp/B07C8FZQC6/ref=pd_aw_fbt_86_img_2/139-9207642-8168344?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07C8FZQC6&pd_rd_r=8b01c836-9dd7-11e9-817d-770b07e0fa98&pd_rd_w=tB2xR&pd_rd_wg=XE9EZ&pf_rd_p=3ecc74bd-d08f-44bd-96f3-d0c2b89f563a&pf_rd_r=XZYE38P2SSS16SPF0QRD&psc=1&refRID=XZYE38P2SSS16SPF0QRD

Hello! Thank you for hosting :) Here's my computer desk the doubles as a vanity!

http://imgur.com/a/nFLVQ

It's from Ikea, but I don't think they don't sell it anymore. I did however just buy a double kitchen shelf that I absolutely adore. I just put it together the other day! I have three mini acrylic organizers, two of which I got at Tj Maxx and the three compartment pencil holder is from target. One of my drawers also holds makeup, and I placed two organizer things that fit perfectly!

The nicest thing I've done recently, is pay for the dry cleaning of the person in line in front of me who ended up leaving their wallet at home. Brightened up my day! And I will link this to help organize my pantry a little bit! Thank you for the contest!

u/xgnarf · 1 pointr/homelab

I wouldn't lack rack, it works well enough for a switch or some other light equipment but the legs are hollow after 2" from the top and 1/4" from the bottom. Generally one could find a 42U rack on craigslist for ~$100 or less, frankly if thats too expensive I'd get this with the 'benefit' that you don't need/can't use rails/shelfs

u/Jcole429 · 1 pointr/Aquariums

I found it on Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/Edsal-Black-Steel-Shelving-Unit/dp/B01A87BPIU?sa-no-redirect=1

However, there seems to be nightmarish reviews about delivery and the condition of the unit

When I have time I'm just going to go to a lowes/home depot and see what I can find

u/floodingthestreets · 1 pointr/Aquariums

Models with a 4000 lbs total or 800 lb per shelf capacity can hold 40 gallon breeders. I've kept 4 breeders (stacked 2 high) on this shelf without issue.

The model you linked is available on Amazon with a 5000 lb total capacity.

There are similar looking shelves with about 250 lb per shelf capacity, which I wouldn't trust to hold any aquariums.
