My family has used the older version of this humidifier for 18 years

It's legit magic

Edit: for humidifiers, ceiling fan on winter mode and/or any fan at the lowest speed and make sure the door to the room you're using it in is closed if you live in a larger house. It'll help keep the air circulating better if a fan is on

u/HouseMonsters · 5 pointsr/functionalprint

Here is a link to the humidifier. Basically it’s a travel one where you can take any water bottle and fill it up as the tank. It can’t do a whole room but it’s good for bedside or cubical.

Static can cause significant damage to any electronic equipment - computers, printers, phones, network equipment, etc. I strongly recommend taking immediate action to eliminate sources of static:

Use a humidifier to bring up the level of humidity in your shop. The Lasko 1128 is an excellent and cost-effective choice for large areas. This humidifier has a massive 9-gallon water reservoir and drop-and-go refill canister which is extremely convenient, and has a built-in humidity sensor which allows it to automatically turn itself on and off as needed. You'll probably need to assign someone to make sure that this unit is replenished with water each day. You can avoid water deposits from contaminating the interior by using only distilled water, although tap water will work fine too. More importantly, be sure to use a water treatment product (see link below) to keep any mold or bacteria from forming, and replace the filter once a year.

You might also consider using a good anti-static spray on any carpeted areas to reduce static generated by walking. I've used both solutions with good results in arid static-prone offices. Good luck.

On the note of lounge access, check your airports for various amenities. Schiphol Airport and a lot of EU international airports offer a lounge of sorts. 15 euros at Schiphol gets you 45 minutes in a bathroom with full shower and the ability to relax after the trans-Atlantic flight.

For me, I try to travel as light as possible. To that end I have all my electronics down to USB rechargeable devices. Cellphones, Kindle, ect. 4 port USB charger with pretty much every wall outlet (I know somewhere, some country is going to have an outlet type that no one else does). It's also nice when you are in need of more outlets then the charging station has. I've had all four ports plugged in by people that I just met in the airport.

For reference here is the one I use:
http://smile.amazon.com/Lenmar-smartphones-interchangeable-international-Australia/dp/B001BWLA8W/

I've always found the US hotels are dry as hell, and to that end I keep a portable humidifier with me. Taking a hot shower only lasts so long and my sinuses are bad enough without help.

This is the one I use:

This is the one that I’m using. Full disclaimer, I’ve only had it for a day and a half now so I don’t know how it works long-term, but it’s been doing a pretty good job for the time I’ve been using it! It also has really good reviews on Amazon and isn’t too pricey.

I got my start mainly from Hank Shaw's awesome blogs entries at https://honest-food.net/ as well as

Wine fridges usually operate in a ~45-55 degree range which is a perfect temperature for curing meats

Add in a better humidifier controller such as

and an ultrasonic humidifier such as

I have had at least one of these diffusers fail, so I recently just ordered one that has a 5 year warranty:

Pure Enrichment PureSpa XL - Extra-Large Premium Aroma Diffuser with 2,000ml Tank - 3-in-1 Unit Also Functions as a Single-Room Humidifier and Intelligent Mood Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0774X5PTV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_hyRXDbJR8Q4J6

They are generally pretty good, and although I have not been using distilled water as is recommended, I still have one going strong after a couple years, even though it briefly stopped working. Another one failed after about a year (just after the warranty expired). I have dumped a variety of oils in the one that is still working, including undiluted vetiver, with good results.

I spent a long time looking for this unicorn of a device about a year ago, and ended up compromising.

I got a Crane Drop humidifier and plugged it into this humidity-controlled switch. The special switch is a bit pricey, likely because the manufacturer (Dayton) focuses on the industrial market with their products.

I got one for my son at Target. It's a cool mist humidifier. They also sell them on Amazon and have many different animals, too - http://www.amazon.com/Crane-Adorable-Gallon-Humidifier-Dragon/dp/B0015M7ZMI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322637762&sr=8-1.

Do you have a central furnace? My house has a humidifier that attaches to the central heating ducts and turns on with a humidistat in the winter time. Works great, according to the sensor I keep in the kids room. I know it can be added on but I've never done it. I would assume an HVAC can guy do it though.

I'm def happy with how it turned out. My second build and my favorite part is the ability to reverse the fans. Could turn them all into charcoal filters if the smell becomes an issue. So far, just one set of fans with activated charcoal is doing it. If i were to do it over, I'd probably skip the sidelights. It's a little overkill - there's 150w pulling in 2.5 sq ft right now

u/bloks1995 · 1 pointr/SavageGarden

I'm currently using this in conjunction with some hosing and fittings I got from Lowe's. If you are willing to look around, I found the exact same model at GoodWill for $5 (I bought it for spare parts). Only downside is that the way I use it, the tank has to be filled once a day, and it has to be cleaned out every week or so.

Alternatively, you could buy an ultrasonic transducer, large rubbermaid container, 12v fan, and appropriate tubing and make a fogger using that. I have no experience building something like this, but it is on my to do list when I have a bit more space to set up such a contraption.

u/reboog711 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

So, cheapest route.. if you have steam heat / heaters in every room; just put water in a pyrex ball on top of the heater.

Assuming that won't work; I use this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O3I2CG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Slight above your range;but it works great. It can create a lot of mist; and we use it near the lowest setting available or else our bedroom turns into a very humid rainforest.

It does need to be cleaned routinely and gets pretty disgusting if you don't--I've never had a humidifier that didn't have that problem. Unfortunately I've never had a humidifier that is easy to clean because of nooks and crannies.

I've never had a problem w/ humidifier leaks, though.

Very small footprint, uses a normal pop/water bottle as the reservoir. I put a 1L water bottle on it. The little output "nozzle" wouldn't stay up for me (kept falling down) so I stuck a piece of adhesive-back velcro onto it under the outlet hole, which stops it from falling down

I looked at buying an ultrasonic mist-maker element and building the humidifier myself, but this costs basically the same but without the time to build and debug a DIY version

I recently got this one off Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PSL92LK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I wanted to experiment with something inexpensive and see if it made a difference for the plants.

It’s not very big but it puts out a nice cloud of mist for about 8 hours before it needs to be refilled. It has increased my calathea’s happiness.

Aprilaire 700M Whole-House Humidifier with Manual Control. This is what I bought and it does my whole house, plus can integrate into your thermostat if it has the correct connections. It was easy to install as long as you don't mind a little plumbing and low voltage electrical.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/companyreviews

I bought a humidifier off Amazon last year. About a week of using it daily, I picked up the top plastic portion to refill it, and the plastic broke and shattered in my hands.

To contact Amazon customer service, you actually give them your number and they call you so that you don't have to be put on hold.

So I get a call from Amazon, asked the rep if the product was defective since it just broke in my hands - not really expecting anything since I'd used it for a week - and she immediately offered to send me a new humidifier, no questions asked. Too good.

u/Chocochip01 · 1 pointr/indoorgardening

I got this Pure Humidifier from TJ Maxx, but here’s the Amazon link. It lasts almost all day - or most of the work day - since my apartment is also very dry. It gets the air around my plants to about 50-60% humidity, and my plants seem to like it.

... also it changes colors. Not gonna lie; that was half the reason I got it lol

u/trinidadpena · 1 pointr/homeautomation

> Main disadvantage is you need some plants to get a comfortable moisture level inside otherwise all your furniture will zap you because of the static electricity.

If you have forced air heating you should be able to get a humidifier installed in the system, if you dont have central air heating, an evaporative humidifier is life changing.

I have this for my 1br apt and its overkill, i have to leave it on the lowest setting or it turns into a swamp in here.

u/crapshack · 1 pointr/Asthma

Yes, by allergy shots I mean immunotherapy. On the allergy tests, dust mites are my really big one. I think certain animals will trigger allergies more than others. I have 3 dogs in my house right now (dogsitting for my parents). My little one doesn't cause me allergies, but the two big ones are awful.

Yes it's really cold in winter. We got our first snow last night. My asthma also gets worse when it is cold outside. I think it's from running the furnace, and not opening the windows for fresh air. Your skin gets dry, and that dead skin is food for dust mites. Running a humidifier is helpful, or taking a hot bath with eucalyptus scented bubbles can help too.

When you're in that state you panic you need to try to calm down - breathe slowly, in through your nose (if you can) and out throught your mouth. I usually close my eyes. Get into the best spot in your house - for me it's the bathroom, it's cool in there and there isn't any fabric to hold dust or dander. I even tell myself in my head, "You're okay, just breathe slowly.." I also will use more of my rescure inhaler than the instructions say, if it's not helping. When I go to the hospital for an attack they put a mask on me that is a mix of oxygen and ventolin, and there's so much it makes a cloud around me. If the two puffs on the instructions don't help, I'll take two more, and 5 minutes later, two more. But if you're freaking out that might not be a good idea for you.

u/DarthElephant · 1 pointr/houseplants

What kind of humidifier do you use? I was looking at the VicTsing on Amazon. I'm just not sure if it's normal or expected to keep a humidifier running with a fan 24/7 but then again I'm not sure about much of this stuff yet! :)

Pricey, yes, but effective. We had a cheap Bionaire for a while and it broke after about a year, so we were willing to pay the extra for good quality. It seems to work much better, too, and measures/regulates the humidity in the area instead of just shooting out mist.

They also seem to have some more affordable options, like this travel one for $50:

I have found pebble trays to only work if they are quite large. Under my lights is a 4ft by 2 ft tray filled with 2 inches of LECA and that does certainly raise the humidity but I still use a humidifier. I would get a humidifier if I was you. http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-1128-Evaporative-Recirculating-Humidifier/dp/B00FGLPCN8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452806600&sr=8-1&keywords=lasko+humidifier+1128 I have this and I really like it. It has a huge tank so it rarely needed refilled and it circulates the water, which really cuts down on algae growth. Also, your roots don't really look that bad. They have some damage but they aren't rotted or shriveled so they are probably still working well for the plants. I would advise against dunking for watering. Its a good way to spread disease and pests. You can probably remove whatever is filtering the light if you are growing in a west window. They can take the light, especially now in the winter. I would just make sure it doesn't get too hot in the window in the summer. I have had good luck with seaweed extract. Also , the last plant looks a bit overpotted. With Phals, I usually pot into the smallest pot I can fit all the roots in after I have removed all the old media and trimmed the dead roots.

In the US I use a Vicks WARM MIST humidifier because it serves a multitude of purposes for me, but there is a cool/ultrasonic version here. I bought mine at Target, nothing special. I have literally the same humidifier here in Sweden (just re-branded as Honeywell) and it's great.

I will say this much: having a warm mist humidifier is a pain in the ass because you have to clean the mineral buildup off the heating element every so often and it's kinda gross.

I have this Sunpentown/SPT model. I use it at night in my room, during the winter months.

It has a large enough tank to last all night, or two nights on a lower setting. The motor noise is noticeable, but tolerable - a low-level white noise. The biggest complaint is that on higher settings, it creates a light, powdery coating on many plastic surfaces in the room.
