Go buy yourself a good foam pad. Not something for backpacking or the like. Something like this. Do that. Bring a couple of handwarmers into bed with ya, and you'll be amazed at how warm it will be. Not much else required, really.

Mattress protector/encasement: Hypoallergenic bag to seal bed bugs, dust mites, and spills in/out of mattress. https://www.amazon.com/Encasement-Waterproof-Hypoallergenic-Breathable-Protector/dp/B00Z06F2OI/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=Mattress+protector&qid=1562627220&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Mattress topper: Egg crate or gel foam that is placed on top of the mattress for extra comfort. https://www.amazon.com/Memory-Foam-Topper-Mattress-Sleep/dp/B01GICXDN4/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=Mattress+topper+twin+xl&qid=1562627405&s=gateway&sr=8-6

Mattress pad: Lightly padded/quilted but otherwise similar to a fitted sheet, placed below sheets to protect mattress & hold everything together. (Kinda like underwear for your mattress.) https://www.amazon.com/Gilbin-College-Quilted-Mattress-Polyester/dp/B00MGWK06E/ref=sr_1_9?crid=HBFAAZPF1KD5&keywords=mattress+pad+twin+xl&qid=1562627643&s=gateway&sprefix=Mattress+pad+er+twin+xl%2Caps%2C146&sr=8-9

Mattress protectors are a good idea if you have dust mite allergies, or have concerns about the cleanliness of the mattress. Topper is good if you are used to a plush pillow-top type mattress or find the mattress too firm. Mattress pad is really useful if you are using one of the other two things, or to add a little buffer if the mattress material is plastic or rough.

ETA: You can find combo protector/pads, topper/pads, etc. too. So many options.

i have that exact topper and it is amazing. I'm at 330 lbs at 5'7 for reference. i got it because i got a new mattress that was very firm (need it to be or it would sag horribly under my weight) and it is a godsend. I am a side sleeper exclusively.

it isnt noticably warm to sleep on, although i have a waterproof cover over it (like a fitted sheet with a rubber layer) and then normal sheets. but i do not notice it being warmer than a typical mattress.

it is very plush and it has held up extremely well to weight and body heat in the 2 and a half years i have had it. (using it at minimum 6 nights a week, usually all 7). it is noticeably discolored from heat in the apot i sleep on, but it is just as plush as it was when i first got it (i know because the other half of the queen mattress is virtually unused and flipping the topper feels exactly the same). i do not know if it absorbs body oils, and if that would make it smell, because like i said i use a water proof sheet to avoid that.

it did smell a bit funky the first few days but after a week it went away, and it was unnoticeable under the sheets (i used it for a month before getting the waterproof sheet, so that observation is through one layer of cotton sheets).

i definitely recommend getting the topper!!!!!

edit: sorry i have the 2inch one!!

I just use Amazon, something like this would probably be the best place to start, and if you still don't have enough squish you can get a topper as well. This will probably solve your issues on its own though.

u/Laliy55 · 2 pointsr/buyamattress

I found a good mattress store on amazon, maybe you can found one from it. People usually buy 8-inch or 10-inch mattress. This mattress i share you is a 10-Inch Gel-Infused memory foam mattress, or you can buy a 8-inch mattress like this, which is a innerspring mattress with soft foam layer fire barrier fabric. Hope you found what you want.

Hey there! I'm a transfer student who will be living on-campus in one of the apartments in PCV. I've gotten a bunch of advice from friends and parents with students already at Cal Poly (who've been there since freshmen year and who've lived in the dorms or apartments). All of them suggested getting at least 2 sets of twin XL sheets, a comforter set or duvet w/ down comforter, a mattress topper, and a mattress pad. They also suggested getting a mattress pad that's geared toward keeping bed bugs at bay since they're supposedly common in many college campus dorms and apartments. Hopefully this helps :) I linked a few items and searches to make it easier to find stuff!

I have had this about a year and love it

Pure Green 100% Natural Latex Mattress Topper - Medium Firmness - 3" Queen Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UYG8QWE/

u/Krysiz · 2 pointsr/Mattress

I got https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UYG8HRS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which is sold by Sleep on Latex via amazon ( https://sleeponlatex.com/pages/our-story-2 )- who is mentioned here frequently. The issue, however, is that they only seem to sell dunlop and from what I tried in the store I liked the bounce of talalay.

I got a 2" soft which will augment my mattress' current 2" comfort layer. I was going to go for a 3" but my wife is a back sleeper and so 2" felt like a good middle ground.

I also went with them because it ships via prime and reading the feedback they are responsive in case a return is needed and will help facilitate shipping back a giant king sized slab of foam. =)

I'm hopeful I can figure something out! My next step would be moving towards diymattress.net since they sell talalay toppers. Which on that note, I found their website section on how to build a mattress interesting.

You should read FAQ.

My website has alot of research and links about latex and DIY mattresses.

I went with the most expensive 3 inch topper on Amazon for this example. It might require some experimentation for the right feel. Latex feels very different than memory foam and I love it and the idea that latex will last for decades appeals to me. Ikea has latex mattress on display so you can test out the feel.

the herb Lavender is known to help with sleep a lot, you can burn Lavender incense like a hour or so before you go to bed, make some tea with it, make a dream pillow or ever buy a Lavender infused mattress topper like this.

https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-2-inch-5-Zone-Lavender-Mattress/dp/B01H2N2G3Q

note: I hear that Lavender tea can be very strong it might be best to mix it with something else.

This is the best thing I ever bought for my bed. Everyone that stays say it's like sleeping on a cloud, and it means I didn't have to fork out for an expensive mattress: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Double-Memory-Foam-Mattress-Topper/dp/B00LTQ46UO/ref=sr_1_7?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1478161227&sr=1-7&keywords=memory+foam+mattress+topper

So this isn't gel but if you can afford it or have really generous gifters I love Tempurpedic.

Here is an example of the gel and they come in all different inches.

Amazon sells 2 or 4inch thick memory foam mattress toppers for £30-40. When I get a Berlingo I'm just going to use them rather than foam cut to size. I currently use a 2 inch double folded over to sleep guests on the floor and it is fine. one with a thick sheet should be alright but you can possibly double up.

You can buy acoustic foam that's used in sound recording booths but it's fairly expensive. Egg crate-style bedding foam does not quite as good of a job at deadening noise, but is not very attractive. You can also get fiberglass insulation if you have just open walls in your garage. Ideally you may want both. If you decide to insulate with a surface foam treatment, it may be worth installing the foam at a 45-degree angle in the corners of the garage too, to minimize sound reflecting from the wall to the ceiling or from one wall to another and acting as a secondary resonator.

I use this one which is a bit on the higher end but it is so so fluffy. I have an awful time trying to get out of bed in the morning.

u/throsterial · 1 pointr/Mattress

That's a hard price. The cheapest that I can find that is better than what you have is the allswell, which is 315 for a full.

For a good mattress topper, sleep on latex sells a 2 inch full size medium firmness topper for 159 dollars on amazon.

I got a 4" thick twin sized memory/latex foam mattress topper on Amazon for less than a hundred dollars a few years ago. I highly recommend something like that.

This isn't exactly the same one I had (it's discontinued supposedly) but it's pretty much identical)
