A hammock is a horrible idea. Boom and boom. $132 for a not shit sleeping situation. And free mothafuckin shipping. Oh wait, you're feeling a little fancy? Take an $80 memory foam mattress. Why the hell are you on a hammock. Buy these now.

u/VodkaAunt · 54 pointsr/AskWomen

Not OP, but I love this one.

u/nope_nic_tesla · 35 pointsr/personalfinance

While I don't believe you would be able to stay on their Medicaid plan it is worth contacting the appropriate agency and finding out for sure. That could potentially be huge savings.

Some more things I thought of that might be helpful:

  • You will need furnishings in your new apartment. Buy as much as possible from places like Goodwill, Habitat Restore, and Craigslist. You can get basic appliances, cookware, plates, utensils, as well as furniture from these sources very cheap. You should be able to furnish your kitchen with the basics for a few hundred bucks. You can rent trucks by the hour from Lowe's and Home Depot for pretty cheap if you need to haul larger items from the store or to go pick up from someone. Inspect any furniture thoroughly for bedbugs, especially things like couches as that is not something you will want to deal with in the future and can be costly to fix.

  • That said, don't buy a used mattress. It's gross and you're unlikely to get a good deal anyway. Also don't go to a local mattress seller because their markup is insane. Buy a cheap memory foam mattress like this one from Amazon. Your back will thank you and you'll save a bunch of money.

Do some research before you go shopping.

Sleep Like the Dead is a really good review/research site. They cut across all brands in their reviews and they explain why certain beds are certain ways. For example it's really hard to comparison shop mattresses because manufacturers tend to make specific models only for specific stores. The insides may be exceptionally similar, but it's difficult to tell that at the stores and sales people aren't great about sharing that info.

I spent most of my life on a traditional innerspring mattress but recently (like a month ago) switched to one of the bed in a box foam mattress and I'm loving it. My hip and lower back pain has dramatically decreased and the price was sooo much better.

This is the mattress I got from Amazon. Slightly lower rated then the Caspers/Leesas of the world, but also a lot cheaper. I didn't want to invest a ton if I wasn't sure about the whole foam mattress thing.

I already had a box spring from my old bed that was still in good shape, so I didn't get a new one, but if I had, I'd probably go with something like a platform bed. There are really simple ones like this one that'll get the job done and let you have plenty of room for storage underneath. You can also get some that have drawers built in for storage which is handy.

Then, depending on your style, you could add a headboard to any frame.

$187. Amazon

u/jbaber · 8 pointsr/minimalism

I grew up sleeping on futons and mattresses on the floor, so I agree they're comfortable. But having to air them out, leave them in the sun, store nothing underneath, etc. turns out to not really be that minimalist (especially with your time). Get this minimalist bedframe and this minimalist foam mattress in whatever size you need. Feels like a futon without all the disadvantages.

The bedframe is particularly nice because it's all metal, so doesn't wear out like other platform beds that use wooden slats like IKEA's. I had to wrap the corners with duct tape because I keep banging my shins into them.

And just to illustrate, I have a pair of each of these for my “car camping” setup:

It’s a comically huge and ridiculously heavy setup, but for actual sleeping, it’s very nice.

On the mattress bit, no need for a van - just get a mattress in a box.

We got this one in Canada and it's unreal. There are probably cheaper mattress in a box vendors in the UK tho.

u/orangething · 5 pointsr/breakingmom

Here's a chart. Buy your twin mattress from Amazon! The boys fucking love those mattresses. It keeps them from sweating at night and even us adults feel comfy on it. I've napped on them many a time 😂 Also, Here is the mattress protector that I got... It's amazing and I can't believe it's so inexpensive.

Edit : woo! 7 years of glory!

u/HeyJustWantedToSay · 5 pointsr/malelivingspace

I can't imagine sleeping on an air mattress every night - I think I'd rather sleep on a stack of blankets and a sleeping bag.

Splurge on a $250 memory foam mattress on Amazon. I've had a 10" one for 2.5 years and I absolutely love it.

u/-FDT- · 5 pointsr/GERD

Hey bud - I hate to state the trite obvious but if you’re having those thoughts you may want to see a counselor. They won’t fix your GERD/LPR but coping with it is a life long process that they can help with. You CAN get it under control, but it takes work and its kind of a moving target (your body changes).

You still have options to fix this:

  1. Get a second opinion by a different doctor and tell them how significantly this is affecting your quality of life
  2. don’t eat 3 hours before bed
  3. give up all caffeine, soda, fried foods immediately (even if it seems like you can tolerate them)
  4. get a wedge that goes UNDER your mattress to put your body on a slant, keeping stomach contents down when you sleep (something like this helps me)
  5. lose weight if overweight
  6. schedule a therapy session, seriously, life is worth living, and this is treatable, you just have to find the right balance and hang in there and properly cope with it. I see a therapist and one of the things we frequently talk about is how GERD and medical issues affect me. Therapists are great and everyone needs one in this complicated world.

Hang in there and good luck!

Murphy bed!!! or this!

Composting toilet! Grab a bucket of sawdust to go with it.

Deflatable tub or portable Japanese soaking tub for shower!
If you need it... HOT shower!

Hand sink!

Camping stove that can be used indoors.

Water filter system for drinking and cooking.

Water storage!

For short term! ....just figure out how to secure it all! Fun! Fun!

I got my first apartment a couple weeks ago but my roommate went out of town shortly after and it took him a while to move in, but now he is and we have furniture! We have a complete cooking set and living room, now all we need are plates and silverware. I'm super excited. I also ordered my first bed. I've never owned my own bed before. I'm psyched!

Edit: Here's the mattress: [Zinus Memory Foam 6 Inch Green Tea Mattress, Full] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MT85NGJ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_F3kmzbQTPCW0R)

And here's my beautiful bed

I'm going to buy light pink sheets and I have a cream colored comforter which I've had since college. I'm also going to have a bench at the foot of my bed.

It's so nice to finally be feminine after so many years ❤❤

And I can't say enough about it. It's a little cheaper from the company site too. Plus delivered to your door and done!
I was worried about the mixed reviews but I find its firm and soft and my hips no longer kill me, my arms no longer fall asleep. And my husband doesn't toss and turn anymore. Woooo

u/brmomacct · 2 pointsr/breakingmom

My oldest did the thing where he would flip over and crawl until he hit resistance. I bought a thin mattress for the floor. We upgraded for this baby. I bought this. It's so freaking comfortable. He's one though. I'd go thinner for a younger baby.

u/fledglinging · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

I mean, I don't have any back issues or anything and don't suffer from insomnia, so it's possible I just don't know the difference between a good mattress and a cheap one, but I've slept (for multiple months) on super expensive tempurpedic mattresses too -- I would say the cheap Amazon one is a little softer / less firm (so if you need a very firm mattress it might not be the best choice), much lighter / easier to move around if needed (easier to make the bed, too), and just as comfy. I've had great nights' sleep on both. This is the specific one I've had since 2014: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GTCL480/

/u/zeropin answered your question pretty well, but if you're trying to get super fancy with this:

  1. full size 6" memory foam mattress

  2. 13 inch cooler

I work from the road sometimes and use this setup. I've cut the mattress to fit the back bed and it's ALMOST like sleeping at home as long as I find a flat piece of ground to park on. Currently driving from NC to Colorado 8 hours at a time while working from coffee shops.

The cooler fits nicely in the space between the folded down seats (with headrests removed) and obviously can keep your drinks cold with a 10lb bag of ice. Also, if I've got a guest, this setup will fairly comfortably sleep 2. If you need pics or further explanation please let me know.
u/HappySashimi · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

I suppose I should add that this centre pad folds into a couch.

u/FyslexicDuck · 2 pointsr/chicago

For a budged minded shopper, I highly reccommend memory foam mattresses. I got this one for $175 (full-xl size) and I like it better than standard mattresses. They make thicker ones too that are also very reasonably priced. I just rocked mine on the floor until I made my bed (I make furniture for a living).

I just noticed it's only $130 now. That is a GREAT deal. 25 year warranty on that bad boy.

u/bioblues · 2 pointsr/DIY

Yeah not a lot of research went into designing this, I just drew up the plans of the top of my head and I don't normally build this type of stuff. I didn't occur to me to put ventilation holes, but I am going to add them. It's memory foam but not a TempurPedic, actually it was cheaper than the bed frame! I found this mattress: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005A4OOWQ/ref=twister_B009YE2WO0 on ebay brand new with no box, and it happened to be local to me so I didn't have to pay the large shipping fee.

u/rednightmare · 2 pointsr/VictoriaBC

You can buy mattresses at thrift/second-hand stores. You can also get decent foam mattresses relatively inexpensively, especially online. Here is a queen size on amazon.ca for $400 with free shipping. and a thinner one for $300.

They also show up on Used Victoria frequently.

Okay so this probably sounds too good to be true but I decided to try a "mattress-in-a-box" thing too and my budget was a tad lower (by like 600 haha I'm a student) BUT I Think I've found the hidden-gem of mattress brands: Zinus. I got mine from amazon, and if you have prime shipping is free.

This is the one I have:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012H0JTMA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

Would give it 7/10 on the 0-10 Firmness scale (which is my personal preference), maybe 5/10 on that memory-foam sinking in feeling, and its held up super well, and only ~$250.

Total satisfaction out of 10 - I'd give it 9/10

Here are some nicer ones:

Also - if you don't already have Honey - it is the best app/add-on for coupon codes.. like for real I'm not a rep for them haha, just crazy good deals. It automatically tries a bunch overtime you're checking-out online. Link to that is: joinhoney.com/ref/bk7a4o if you wanna check it out!

u/bustedvocals · 2 pointsr/singing

Indeed. I recommend getting a wedge pillow or something like this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077KHHG7K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mDjlDbVB5G2D7) to put under your mattress and physically put you in an incline so gravity keeps acid down.

u/ductyl · 2 pointsr/TinyHouses

Well, Amazon has these Japanese floor futons that seem to get really good reviews, although they're more "rollable" than "foldable", they also have this folding mattress.

u/jassykangaroo · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Hello! I'm sorry you're sad, but I truly hope to help a little!

So, I really love finding furniture etc, and I can 100% stand behind the foam mattresses sold on amazon. I've slept on one for OVER 10 years, and they're SO cheap and SO comfortable. Zinus is the one but if you really want the premium version, I completely think the extra money worth this

In terms of frames, I have a soft spot in my heart for ikea frames.

u/chewmattica · 1 pointr/StPetersburgFL

I bought ours off Amazon. Love it and you'll save a bunch of money.

u/Fuck_the_police · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Yes, Ikea has a few, I have this one https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40228708/ . I use two 5 inch memory foam mattresses (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MF93DAX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1), so the twin mattress height is pretty normal at 10 inches, and king height is still a comfortable 5 inches. I would probably recommend getting two 6 inch mattresses, though, the twin mattress height is not a huge deal, especially with deep pocket sheets.

u/anhtm · 1 pointr/Mattress

I sleep in that angle too, the superman pose. Mine is a memory foam mattress that cost about CAD $250. Very comfortable and quite firm that it doesn't sink in but still soft when in contact with your body.

Here it is: Zinus Memory Foam 8 Inch Green Tea Mattress, Full https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00Q7EUZLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0LRVDbZQMR1RV

u/Parelle · 1 pointr/IKEA

I can't speak to those stackable beds (though I'm intrigued now for future room planning). That said, I've used a different brand of foam mattress on my kids' SVÄRTA bunk beds (though these have a metal frame) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GO8Y6BQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They definitely do sink down a bit when an adult sits on them, but they work pretty well overall and have held their shape in the past year and a half of use. They're not particularly heavy either.

u/yoshimeyer · 1 pointr/minimalism

I downsized when moving a few months ago and decided to try a foam mattress on the floor because they're cheap and arrive in the mail rolled up and compressed for easier delivery. Got this one for $180 Signature Sleep 8-Inch Memory Foam Mattress, Full.
Super comfy and when I vacuum, I just tilt it up to one side of the room to easily clean all around.

u/aksack · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I had one of these from Amazon and loved it. It's pretty firm so I would get one of the thicker ones with more foam.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GTCL480/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/hartscov · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

Sure thing - price went up $49 but still very reasonable. After un-boxing, it took about a day for it to completely puff up. You'll see comments complaining about a chemical odor, but I didn't have anything like that going on. This is a purchase I would make again for sure - this is a real mattress.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050JL5C8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/johniib · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

No opinion on the Ikea mattresses, and I'm not sure if this option will work for you, but I slept on this mattress for over two years and never had a bad nights sleep nor notice anything go bad. I prefer harder beds, but that one was still super comfortable (everyone loved it).
you WILL sink into this one, but still be very supported. I never felt like the mattress got overly warm, but I was in SF at the time so that probably limited how hot it could get. You don't need a foundation with that bed, so you could always get one of these.

After I moved I gave it to a friend and he thoroughly enjoys it.

u/TheKittenConspiracy · 1 pointr/Clemson

I definitely wouldn't ever take the risk with a street mattress because that is just asking for bedbugs. Nowadays you can just order mattresses online with free shipping because modern foam ones can be rolled up for shipping. DO NOT GET AN AIRBED! :-) You can buy a full mattress for under $200 in memory foam from a company called Zinus...they import from China but sell this mattress for almost what it cost to make it. Check it out at this link.https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Memory-Foam-Green-Mattress/dp/B00Q7EVAXO/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=full+size+mattress&qid=1562589505&s=gateway&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=8-5

After you look at that, THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO is shop at your local store and let them know you saw this product on Amazon and have them show you something comparable. It is very important that you try it out first in my opinion since sleep is a big deal and comfort is critical to getting that kind of sleep. Shopping local is a good thing to do and most of those guys can hook you up.

I am in the industry and DO NOT benefit in any way from the suggestion, just trying to help you out. I write a blog on the mattress industry at mquinn.com for industry people...just want you to know that I am credible. :-) Good luck.

Im moving to a new apartment so i just bought this today: https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B00NX8GDSE?th=1 I'd like the balance out all the $1k+ people with us normal folk. I'm on a super budget. Don't want to pay more than $200 for both mattress and bed.

Bought it used for $60. I wanted something that was eaasy to transport but still firm. I don't need some massive 12 inch spring mattress but i still wanted a Queen so this is pretty perfect. Plan to throw it on a nice wood platform bed when i can find one.

Can't speak too much on the quality but it feels great so far. We'll see how my back manages (history of lumbar herniated and bulging discs).

I live in similarly sized space and considered a [memory foam sofa couch](Milliard Tri-Fold Foam Folding Mattress and Sofa Bed for Guests or Floor Mat - Queen 78x58x4½" Removable Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NB2NPTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_9IdsybPA595QB). I like that it was washable, and multifunction however it is not the greatest looking thing.

For dining table I would suggest a kitchen island if you need more kitchen counter space that can double up as a dining table. If not the wall mounted foldaway table are great for saving space.
