I’d love to add the Vortex Optics Solo with Ranging reticle to my EDC.

But it’s too expensive to justify and a little too chunky for a pocket.

This is what I have.

I had previously tried a shitty monocular from REI, but it was total trash. The difference in quality is night and day.

Mine weighs 5.8 oz, and is very clear. Eye relief is great. I'd be wary of going with any higher level of zoom, as 8x25 is about what most people can hold steady on a monocular. You could go with the 10x36 to get a wider FOV to help with this, but that one is heavier as a result.

I will note that the focus ring on my Vortex came loose, so I'm currently getting it fixed/replaced under their lifetime warranty.

If you live in the US you can even buy most of the same electronics as well. Peltor ComTac headsets can be bought right off of their site or through Amazon.

For example AN/PVS 14's

> I'll have to buy a spotting scope, which seems excessive for such short distances.

Cease-fire, then walk down range.

One Two

Don't use the scope on your rifle to spot your hits. A ten-power or 12-power monocular is fine for zeroing and checking hits at 25m (or yards, or whatever). Get your initial zero at 25m. Then move the target back to 100m and 300m to verify.

I think I've purchased the Tasco monocular from one of the sporting goods chains (Academy, or Cabela, or something); they work just fine.

Inexpensive or compact or good for star gazing. Pick 2 ^_^

For inexpensive astro take a look at the Nikon Action EX 7x50. $76 and waterproof but weighs 1kg.

The Bushnell Natureview 8x42 is $107 and 654g. Haven't heard much about this model but on paper it sounds okay.

The lightest option that should be decent for star gazing is the Vortex Solo 8x36. Costs $100 and weighs an unbeatable 275 grams.

I'm basing "good for star gazing" on Schaefer's magnitude formulas. And this is the list that I was working off of.

sounds great, thanks for the reply!

have you ever seen something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Airsoft-Military-Killflash-Sight-Scope/dp/B008HUGEDM

My only concern is that it would pop out at the top since all the binding is on the bottom
