I use one:

My fav is still Kodi with the Jellyfin for Kodi add on or MrMC.

This is a misconception. The YouTube app on Android TV and the old YouTube app on Fire TV are nothing more than a browser view of youtube.com/tv, meaning you're just navigating an HTML 5 website.

When Google decided to hurt Amazon by "blocking" YouTube on Fire TV devices, Amazon just switched from displaying YouTube in a browser wrapper (like Google does for their own Andorid TV devices) to displaying YouTube in a fully functioning browser.

The user experience is exactly the same. The only difference is instead of opening an app and immediately watching YouTube, you now open an app, select to load YouTube from a bookmark, and then you're watching YouTube.

So it's just one more click. If that one click is annoying, you can get rid of the extra click by using a Bookmarker app that jumps you directly into YouTube, just like the old app. If you don't like that, the old app is still fully functional and can be installed in a couple minutes if you prefer to just stick to the way things used to be before Google and Amazon were fighting.

Still plugging my app na nasa Amazon App Store. Will upload to Play Store soon! Sa mga laging nakakalimutan kung anong episode sila tumigil sa pinapanood nilang series, this app is for you!

I use AirPlay on my Fire Stick, and it works really well. Depends on the app you use, I suppose, but I paid a buck for AirBuddy and don't regret it a bit. I'm honestly not sure where the bad reviews come from.

You can stream Shudder through our website, Apple, mobile Android devices, Roku, FireTV, as well as through Amazon Prime Video and VRV Premium. If you sign up via our website, you may use your account on Apple, mobile Android devices, Roku, and on Xbox One.

However when you sign up for your account, you must do it through a computer/phone

Download MX Player or VLC. Once you have one of them on the device, grant your kid access to it. The thing that's a pain is that you have to do the transfer of the movies while logged into the child account over USB.

The other option is to download GoToApp and then grant your child access to that. It's less secure because it basically breaks the Freetime restriction. The child can access anything on the device using it. GL - This is my biggest complaint with the Freetime setup.

u/santiagorook · 2 pointsr/tablets

Yup. Just download a good player https://amzn.com/B00UXKBKGK (my recommendation) and you're good to go

u/MainHaze · 2 pointsr/fireTV

I've never gotten the Firestick's built-in screen mirroring function to work with my phone, but AirScreen works pretty well!

This will allow you to mirror whatever is on your phone/tablet's screen on your Firestick. So, whatever you do in Sheets on your device, you will see in real-time on your TV screen.

u/edit4ever · 2 pointsr/PhiloTV

You can probably force the update through the app store...

You’ll need this companion app. Install it on the Fire Stick.

  • Fire TV: Yes
  • Chromecast: No, but the Kids app does (so you can watch Sid the Science Kid.
u/coherent-rambling · 2 pointsr/htpc

I haven't tried these methods, but from what I've seen you should be able to pull this off through either the Kodi machine or the Fire TV. There are apps/addons for both which claim to allow you to stream any video (same as a Chromecast would).

Fire Stick and tvplayer is pretty good for Live UK TV. You can also install Kodi and any other Live TV extensions (YMMV)

u/TraditionalEffect0 · 1 pointr/beermoney

No, there is only an app for the fire tv so far, here is the download. Hideout.tv said that they are working on a mobile app for Android here, but not for iOS.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K has Silk and Firefox browsers that I've used to stream direct from web site when app isn't available. Was able to browse tou.tv with Silk and played the ad for Le Monstre but then gave me the region lock message from USA but it should work for you though. App is also available (see link below). Don't know how close to the border you are but the device is on sale in the US for $40.

I use an Amazon FireTV stick and an old monitor with a pair of cheap PC speakers from Amazon. I have made a dumsterdivers Smart TV!

For like TV I use an app called TV Player https://www.amazon.com/TV-Player-TVPlayer/dp/B00G6H6BTA

If it's live on Freeview it will be live on the app.

The FireTV stick works well for Amazon, Netflix, iPlayer and other stuff I like to watch in my office while I'm at my PC.

u/AgentRev · 1 pointr/canadacordcutters

I took the infos from the description of their apps:

u/Marcellus111 · 1 pointr/fireTV

I assume you're not trying to sideload or anything? There are two Netflix apps in the Amazon app store. This one is for the FireTV: https://www.amazon.com/Netflix-Inc/dp/B00OGRMULA. This one is for Kindle tablets: https://www.amazon.com/Netflix-Inc/dp/B005ZXWMUS. If you're using the right app and not trying to sideload, I'm not sure what to tell you. Have you tried contacting customer support? Are you sure you have enough storage available to install the app?

u/Justified-n-Ancient · 1 pointr/amazon

Just guessing here, but maybe the problem has something to do with system requirements?

There are two apps in the Amazon App Store.

Try this link to deliver to your stick
http://www.amazon.com/ClockworkMod-AllCast-for-Fire-TV/dp/B00JHMPP9S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421193103&sr=8-2&keywords=allcast+for+fire+tv

Edit: it doesn't look like the videos work from the camera roll for the stick. Use Kodi's DLNA/UPNP client for that.

u/FalloutFan2 · 1 pointr/Roku

> Basing a purchasing decision just on this wouldn't make much sense unless you're looking for something specific.

Except the firestick and the roku streaming stick are similar prices so what else should I base the decision on? Which one has a better color scheme?

and amazon does have abc: https://www.amazon.com/ABC-News/dp/B008KPB8P8

and xfinity: https://www.amazon.com/Comcast-Interactive-Media-XFINITY-Stream/dp/B01DUQOSRQ

This is the one I use

I think it does video, but I haven't tried it. I bought this one because it had a good trial and was a $1 in app purchase. There's a few other alternatives but this one worked ok. I did have to fiddle with the bitrate to get it working with music.
