Have you got a Gameboy (or DS!)? Any Gameboy will do! You got it?? Good!! Now, depending on the generation of Gameboy in your hand, follow one of these links:

Original -> Pokemon Red / Pokemon Blue / Pokemon Yellow - Pikachu Edition

Gameboy Color -> Pokemon Silver / Pokemon Gold / Pokemon Crystal

Gameboy Advance -> Pokemon Ruby / Pokemon Sapphire / Pokemon Emerald

Nintendo DS -> Pokemon Diamond / Pokemon Pearl / Pokemon Platinum

Nintendo DS -> Pokemon Black / Pokemon White

... and sort your life out!

EDIT: As people rightly pointed out, no 3DS Pokemon yet, fixed it!

I just want a sequel to Attack of the Saiyans

Hey OP, I have some suggestions for you (these are on the DS side of things, as I don't have a 3DS yet because I've been mainly PC gaming). I copied this from one of my earlier posts on the same subject.

  • Elite Beat Agents - This is a rhythm game where you tap circles and draw lines while following the beat of a song, as secret agents dance in the background and try to save the world. I know it sounds kooky, and it is, but that's half the fun. The Japanese original, Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, was such a huge cult hit that they came out with the English version in Elite Beat Agents. There are a bunch of great songs on it, and the covers are actually decent (a couple are better than the original). Each song opens with a story that introduces someone in need of your help -- and somehow it's your dancing/cheering which pushes him/her to succeed. The stories are often hilarious, but there is one that will rip your heart out and make you teary. Absolutely love this game. (Screen protector strongly recommended!)

  • Rhythm Heaven - Another rhythm-based game, but these two are just really fun and I decided to recommend both. Rhythm Heaven is different from Elite Beat Agents in that it's more a collection of mini games you need to beat in order to advance. There are about 5 mini games in a collection (and around 8 collections in all, I think), and once you beat each one individually, you are given a 'recap' round that basically mashes them all together. This game looks deceptively simple but can be so damn difficult at times that achieving success is so satisfying! The beats in this game are very catchy.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - Lovely RPG. I thought the visuals were beautiful, and it was fun to play. Not much to say except it's a Zelda game, an awesome and fun one at that. The game makes use of the DSL's touchscreen. Controls may be kind of a bit hard to familiarize yourself with if you're used to normal console controls for Zelda, but after a while you get the hang of it and it's really fun to slash your sword around.

  • Advance Wars: Dual Strike - Tactical turn-based strategy game where you try to battle it out with enemies and crush them all. I didn't think I'd like it, but I'm SO glad I gave it a try. I remember staying up late into the night playing this. It's really addicting. There's a sequel, Days of Ruin, but I've never played that so can't give a personal opinion on it. It comes highly recommended, though.

  • Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon - Take the original Harvest Moon games that were about farming and raising animals and getting to know people in your town, and add in some RPG-ish dungeon crawling (where you can also tame monsters to help out on your farm), and you have Rune Factory. I will always have a soft spot for Harvest Moon games; this just adds another element to it.

  • Mario Kart DS - This is fun, and there's just something addictive about it that kept me coming back for yet another round. I liked this version, though some people do say the controls are a bit off, but I never experienced that.

Other games that have been strongly recommended by others (but I have not played):

  • Final Fantasy III
  • Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
  • Radiant Historia
  • Kirby Canvas Curse
  • Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Anyone remember this?

I'm not even sure it was functional.

u/VegettoEX · 5 pointsr/dbz

Yep, "Attack of the Saiyans" (which was actually branded under Kai in Japan, but DBZ internationally) is the most recent traditional JRPG for the franchise. It came out in 2009. The price jumped up for a couple years, but it seems Amazon found another random stockpile of the game, and it's available for $20 again. Definitely recommended.

The DS library for the franchise was hugely varied with everything from traditional fighting games (Ultimate Butoden) to free-flight fighting games (Bukuu Ressen / Supersonic Warriors 2) to card-based RPGs (Harukanaru Goku Densetsu) to action-adventures (Dragon Ball DS / Origins) and so on and so forth. Pretty much all of them are at least on the "good" spectrum, too! Crazy, I know.

The Famicom and Super Famicom hosted a ton of RPGs for the franchise, both card-based and standard turn-based battle styled.

I think should gift /u/Eezaa >.> because, after gifting soooooooo many people over the last few days it seems Kirby Mass Attack is a good choice :) to say thank you

Did you have an original DS/have you played any of those yet? The DS has a ton of great titles that you can play on your 3DS if didn't start there (or even if you did!)

Here's a long list of random games that you might enjoy:

u/snarkinturtle · 3 pointsr/aww

I don't think it was Halo. This maybe? I hear it can be quite frustrating.

u/ducksFANjason · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I don't think any of the games in the series stand out as more or less beginner-friendly. They all follow roughly the same mechanics so it shouldn't really matter which entry you jump in to.

As far as budget-friendly, I'm not sure you'll find anything super cheap. You can always look for a used copy of any of the previous main series games. If you have a DS, and $35 is within your budget, the first title can be bought for that price. Alternatively, the cheapest title in the series I could find on Amazon was Disgaea 4 for the PS3 for $15.

u/spencerkami · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

$10 and under - I want to suggest this Mango Chai Latte but I can't find anything like it on Amazon.com. It still remains my choice as it sounds awesome.

$10~20 - As you like Pokemon and there are a few Eeveelutions, this Vaporeon is absolutely adorable.

Over $20, I second Varasque's Flareon as that's been on my wish list for a good while. But to be different I also suggest both a Harvest Moon game as they rock, and this beautiful Crane table lamp

u/idk_sorry · 2 pointsr/dogelore

yeah I looked it up and you're right.here's the link if any of y'all care about browsing reddit or whatever on your ds

If you're limiting this to cartridge titles you're gonna' get fewer results, but I can recommend some:

Steel Diver, a decent submarine combat game from Nintendo.

Scribblenauts Unlimited - A good entry in a solid game series.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, a good strategy-RPG.

Also, regular DS games (which play on the 3DS). Unlike 3DS games, DS games are not region-sensitive, so you can play imports just fine on your US system, too:

Elite Beat Agents - Probably the best music-rhythm game on the DS.

Rhythm Heaven - Another very good music-rhythm game, albeit more in the abstract.

Sonic Colors and Sonic Rush - Surprisingly good Sonic games.

Mama's Combo Pack - I've never played Camping Mama, but Cooking Mama is a great series of food-themed touchscreen minigames.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies - A great space shooter

WarioWare DIY - A fun entry in Nintendo's "microgame" series, with a "custom build it yourself" twist.

N+ - A simple, but extremely fun and challenging, ninja platformer game.

Pac Pix - A fun arcadey game where you draw Pac-Man to eat ghosts.

Jam Sessions and its sequel - Not a game as much as a tool to create music. Still, very good.

Bust-A-Move DS - A surprisingly good version of this classic puzzle game series with touchscreen support.

Polarium DS - A good, if simple, puzzle game.

Touchmaster, More Touchmaster, Touchmaster Connect and Touchmaster 3 - Good minigame collections.

Pipe Mania - A decent take on the old "Pipe Dream" puzzle game.

Copying my comment from another thread.

>Do you live in Europe or North America?

>If you live in North America, Inazuma Eleven from the eShop is the only available title in the series. It's pretty much the same as the DS version, except it has better graphics and is optimized for the 3DS so no black edges on the top screen. If you finish the game and really enjoy it, you can easily import Inazuma Eleven 2: Firestorm or Blizzard. They're essentially the same game, besides a few differences. It's like choosing between different Pokémon versions. Unfortunately, playing the series gets much harder after this. The third game was originally for DS, but got ported to 3DS for the PAL release. If you wanted to play it, you can either get the Japanese version (playable, but you miss out on a lot assuming you can't understand Japanese) or get the PAL release (unplayable on an NA 3DS unless you have a region hack). The GO series are really fun too, but those are 3DS exclusive, and Galaxy hasn't even been released outside of Japan, so you would need a region hack to play them.

>If you're in Europe, you've got it much easier. Europe has actual amiibo stock almost all of the series available, so you should have no trouble finding the games. I would recommend release order, because the game mechanics build on each other, and it might be overwhelming to start a later game if you're new to the series.

>As for the series itself, I wholeheartedly recommend it. I'm a huge fan of the series, but I live in the US, where there are probably 9 total fans in the entire country. It's got well-designed gameplay with a blend of RPG elements with real-time strategy, a corny but fun story, and a charming cast of characters. The game has a steep learning curve, so it might seem difficult at first, but keep at it. Once you finally figure out how the game works and how to win matches, you won't be able to put the game down!

u/Yokuo · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken, and some garlic bread. Maybe a glass of wine. :) For dessert, cheesecake. Preferably with strawberries or cherries on top.

If I win, how about some Sonic action? Have a safe trip back!

Hello!
The reason I'm interested in this is because while I do have a handheld gaming console, it's a Gameboy Advance SP, which I don't think games are made for anymore (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this). I have a ton of GBA cartridges, and since the DS Lite can play those too, I figure why not? That way, I can play my old games, but get new ones too. Win win situation.
Also my GBA SP is Spongebob themed...which I was into when I got it, but am not as much anymore (don't get me wrong, he's great, I just don't want to carry a gameboy with me everywhere that has his face on it)

In terms of a game under $20...this would be pretty awesome.

Radler is rad!

u/DeeBeeR · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

Animal Crossing: Wild World: It's an amazing game and was one of my first games on a Nintendo DS. There's so much to do in the game and I would really recommend it. Also, the more recent Animal Crossing (New Leaf) is a huge improvement from Wild World. I would deeply recommend that aswell, but it's for 3DS.

Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands: Harvest Moon is a game that's similar to Animal Crossing but it's mostly about looking after your farm, growing crops, raising animals, etc. It's extremely fun and a huge time sink.

Pokemon Black 2: It's a Pokemon game, you can't really go wrong. It's like every other Pokemon game - Fun as heck! You can also buy Pokemon White 2 which is just about the same with little differences like the UI. A list of differences can be found HERE.

My list may not really be descriptive as they're my personal opinion on the games, but if you want to know more about the games, ask me :)

u/SubtleProductPlacer · 2 pointsr/pokemon

I remember when the Diamond and Pearl DS was released, back then it was simple, only one color was needed.

u/shyanide · 2 pointsr/gaming

Picross - puzzle game based on a pen and paper variation. Fill in the boxes of the grid according to the numbers on the side to make a picture.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - Donkey Kong steals Mario's new line of toys and its up to the plumber to get them back. Lemmings style puzzles.

Scribblenauts - conjure anything and everything anytime to solve these devious puzzles. Fun for ppl with large vocabularies.

Brain Age - use mini-games to train your brain to stay in peak mental condition. Plus, your grandmother plays this, too.

Puzzle Quest - match like-colored tiles to gain mana and defeat evil creature. This is what Harry Potter would play instead of Bejeweled. Highly underrated game IMO.

Hope this helps, good luck!

u/ty23c · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Wow, that would be awesome! And well my favorite game for it was Pokemon Diamon

u/cuntpuncherexpress · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

The Rocketeer is my favorite superhero. I love how retro everything about the comics and the film are :) The movie is ridiculously underrated, but I love it!

If I win, I would ask for the blu ray of the film, but I already own it :P How about this or this or if those are too expensive a gift card would be nice :P

Congrats!!!

I'm waiting to hear back on whether I will be spending my spring break traveling throughout Ecuador, rebuilding homes and replanting trees that have become endangered due to deforestation. I find out the (hopefully) GOOD NEWS in the beginning of November and I have never been so nervous!

This game is super cheap used and I freaking love Zelda. Zelda games always capture my interest for YEARS. I still play my gamecube so I can play Windwaker. Even after completing the games, they're not ruined to play again. Eggplant Wizard <3

u/catbots · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This.

While, I heard it's not accurate enough, it sounds like it would get me on the right track to losing the 50 lbs I need to!

u/MeghanAM · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Brain Age, used!

u/ShadwJ · 1 pointr/inazumaeleven

Yeah, the original DS is usually pretty cheap, I'd recommend the lite model since it has a brighter screen and longer battery life. They go for ~$50 on Amazon but you can also try your luck on eBay or craigslist for something cheaper. If you don't mind spending a bit more Nintendo has a refurbished 2DS with Mario Kart 7 for $75 in case you see some 3DS games you'd want to play too.

Now for the games, as of this moment Amazon has the 1st and 2nd game for $10~20 each + shipping in English, usually the japanese versions are a lot cheaper if you're up to the challenge.

u/downvote_every_pun · 1 pointr/gaming

I have Brain Age and Mario, going to pick up the other 3 on my list next time I fly home.

Brain Age
Super Mario
GTA Chinatown Wars
Final Fantasy IV
Mario Kart

Even though it is not a 3ds game, but still a really good game that if you like this type of game you can but many many many hours into this game

http://www.amazon.com/Disgaea-DS-Nintendo/dp/B001C4J62Q

Pretty much the TL:DR version is, you level up character, can make enemies stronger, level up characters to level 9999 then reincarnate them, they can keep up to 95% of their stats and then you can level them to lvl 9999 again from lvl 1, there are ways that you can reach that level in less then 5 battles. Just alot of fun

Not sure what style of games you like, but if you're into Pokemon, you may like RPG-style games as well. I suggest you check out:

  • Dragon Quest IX - Man what a great game. I probably dropped 120 hours into this one (though it's possible to beat in far less time, there's just a TON of side quests)

  • Radient Historia - Another awesome game with old school appeal and new trick to keep you from getting bored. Considered by many DS RPG fans to be the spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger.

  • Retro Game Challenge - If you are a late 20's - early 30's gamer or you just like old school gaming style, this game will be amazing for you. I loved it!

  • Disgaea DS - I will forewarn you about this game. If you like the collection aspect of Pokemon, you will get LOST in this. I must have over 200 hours in it and I easily could have put another 800 (no joke) getting my characters to level 9999 (yup, it's possible)

Anyhow, those are my faves. There are so many others to list, but those four alone would keep you busy for years
u/Justice_Prince · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Maybe they'll come out with a sequel to this

u/Dowre · 1 pointr/breakingbad

The Phoenix Wright games are pretty much a visual novel. The controls are point and click and the game itself is split into two mode: investigation and courtroom. In investigation mode, one will go to various locations looking for evidence and talking to witnesses, detectives, the defendant, etc. In the court room, one will be at the defense bench and find contradictions in the witness's testimony by using the evidence that the player has found during the investigation. It is a really great game and it is avalible for $5 on iOS and Wiiware. Good luck finding a DS copy though, the prices are ridiculous.

u/MegaPower124 · 1 pointr/gaming

Two of those three games have sufficiently better remakes, perhaps he will have the same feeling of missing out on something growing up if you give him an almost 15 year old console, instead of the new and hip versions of the same experiences. Remember parents/future parents, there's a purpose to remakes.

(By the way, said remakes are here and here you might also want to see this and this )
