It’s real rare that disc golf makes it on the front page, so I have to take this opportunity to try and grow the sport.

First of all disc golf is amazing. While you have to buy your own discs, you can get a starter pack for cheap. Courses are almost always free, and you can search your area to find a course that is close to you very easily. Its an awesome way to get outside and be active for the day, while having a little healthy competition with your friends. If you want to learn this guy’s YouTube channel has a TON of amazing tips and techniques. If you’re interested in watching the pros play (they are fucking incredible) check out Jomez Productions.

It’s an amazing game, and truly my favorite way to spend a day. If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me!

What he is using is a little foam Nerf boomerang. They are designed to be thrown indoors and cause relatively little damage. I had one as a kid, and as kids do, I did find a way to break things with it. But in teh hands of a trained astronaut I am sure they could safely use it somewhere like that.

These are probably a better investment than the Innova one based on the heavier weights they tend to come in. You'll still want to throw them if you get Into the game where you'll probably shelf the Innova ones for being too light.

u/lookatallthisstuff · 7 pointsr/ultimate

This is the best disc I've found. Holds the flight pattern of a Discraft while still being soft enough to not hurt my pup and it's also fairly indestructable.

u/chason_htx · 6 pointsr/discgolf

The Fade Crunch Box will fit that bill for around $30 (more colors around the net if you look). It's marketed as a 12 disc bag, and has a divider. I bet I could fit 10 discs in (2 in the putter pocket) and a six pack without much coercion. It's not insulated... but for the money, I'd just toss a few ice packs in there.

It's very well made, I routinely carry a 2L of water with me on the course, no signs of wear on the bag yet.

As for straps, I got the LC-1 H-type military suspenders for about $15 shipped. I can't justify spending $50 on straps... these do the job quite nicely.

For a more traditional disc that is durable, but flies relatively well compared to Hero Discs, I would go with a [Hyperflite Jawz] (https://www.amazon.com/Hyperflite-Jawz-Disc-4-Inch-Blueberry/dp/B002CM3O6G) disc. They are puncture resistant and can fly a lot further than the soft rubber or foam discs. They are also softer than Hero Discs, which makes them a little safer. They are more expensive than other discs, but I have had mine for over a year without any punctures holes. They are heavier than Hero Discs so they don't float quite as well, but they can carry some distance, especially compared to the Kong flyers.

Not a clamp, but these work great imo, multiple color options and fairly cheap.. though if your trying to light up a full course the cost will add up

bestdiscgolfdiscs.com suggests a Valkyrie, Roc, and Aviar for 3 discs. They do use Amazon Pay but you can't use a gift card for that, which is why I assume you specify Amazon.

The problem with buying a set is they're just going to give you what ever they have but it will be cheaper than buying individually.

This Innova Set is decent, The TeeBird is my favorite Innova fairway drive and one of the best all around discs and it has a recommended Roc. I can't say anything about the Rhino but I think when you're starting out putters don't matter much. A similar Innoa Set This one is Leopard, Roc, and Aviar. So maybe this is a little safer as most players will agree that Roc and Aviar are solid discs. Then maybe throw in a GStar Valkyrie and you're just over $40 but you've got some solid discs.

This set of 4 Discraft goes right up to your budget but there's no listing of discs so it's a gamble. In the photo you see a Nuke which is a horrible disc for beginners.

This DGA set Is notable because they're all 150 class discs. Lighter discs can be good for absolute beginners but if you did play a little and can throw then light discs might be more of a burden. It all depends on your arm speed, I'd probably suggest this more for women and children. The Squall is a great beginner mid and the Reef is a solid putter. In normal plastic I'd say the Rogue is not good for beginners but being so light it might work.

u/QueasySpartan · 3 pointsr/discgolf

Here you go!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005X97SHQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1521930208&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=disc+golf+bag&dpPl=1&dpID=413MiPM-KpL&ref=plSrch

It has held up pretty well especially for the price and it says 8 but it will hold 9 including the front putter pocket. I just took out my least used discs or the ones I didn't think would be good for the course.

u/DrMeat201 · 3 pointsr/woodworking

Your pouch mechanism is appropriate for a trebuchet, but probably not for a catapult. Maybe you should consider something like this rigidly fixed to the end? That would at least give you a more consistent release.

If you want to go kinda crazy with your torsion, you could also consider a ballista.

Amazon, Walmart, and some of the other big box stores sell them online.

In-person purchases are trickier. I've had luck with internet searching local disc golf stores but there are definitely areas where they really don't exist. Party stores, gas stations, media stores - it's weird who sells them and who doesn't.

Premium discs run about $15 a pop. Base discs around $8. There is a very real difference in the quality of the plastics here. A lot of people recommend DX plastic to start with because it's cheaper and easier to throw. Personally I found they went to crap waaaaay too quickly - big gouges and scrapes pretty much from the start.

This is the gold standard for starting:

https://www.amazon.com/Innova-Disc-Golf-3-Disc-Colors/dp/B000Q838XW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1506561217&sr=8-6&keywords=disc+golf+starter+set

Personally I like this set more from a mold stand-point (although the Escape is probably fast for a beginner).

https://www.amazon.com/Dynamic-Discs-Prime-Disc-Starter/dp/B00T6TBNX4/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1506561217&sr=8-16&keywords=disc+golf+starter+set

This set is pricier, but you'll use it forever. Plastic is darn near indestructible and they are useful discs at several play levels - you'll need an arm for the volt though.

https://www.amazon.com/MVP-Disc-Golf-Neutron-Straight/dp/B00OS9ZN4C/ref=pd_sbs_200_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KC5V01K22CEXT3DVJ35M

Personally though, I'd probably piecemeal one together for a starter kit. A 175g Judge Classic, 170+ E-Mac Truth, 170+ Neutron Switch or Lucid River, and then a light 150g driver like an Opto Air Diamond maybe.

u/greensmurf30 · 2 pointsr/discgolf

i have no idea! but hopefully people will be able to give some feedback about this one, the fade crunch box, as that is the one i am debating getting. some better pictures are on the fade website and some reviews are on amazon.

i don't really want to end up carrying a bunch of discs, and i just want something that can switch between carrying a full 12 discs, or a half load and some brewskis. what kind of bags are you eyeing?

I use a disc Gator, but even folded up, it's really a pain to carry around.

It's easily saved over a dozen discs so far, from water, from trees; once from on top of a dugout.

I can see where your 3-foot pole could be useful in certain situations, though. And easier to carry.

I was in the same dilemma and after long debate on which one I should buy I ended up going with the Innova Discatcher Traveler for $122 on Amazon and don't regret it for a second.

The quality is so much better than the Franklin Sports and it has real chains. Folds up nicely and includes a carrier bag and all accessories needed to set it up. Spend a little more, you won't regret it.

Just over $50 for everything you need on a 2 inch line, Slackline industries isn't top of the line but for basic learning this line will be more then enough.

u/Dalek_Genocide · 1 pointr/discgolf

I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Innova-Champion-Discs-DISCatcher-Traveler/dp/B008RU1UV8/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=innova+disc+golf+basket&qid=1566831074&s=gateway&sr=8-4

It doesn't catch as well as a normal basket but it's fairly obvious when you would have nailed a put on a normal basket and when you wouldn't have.

I like it because it folds up into just bigger than a camping chair. I like to take it camping or on family vacations where there is a lot of space so it fits easily into my van.

Any specific starter kits you recomend? I have been thinking about picking up the 3 disc starter pack on amazon, but the 5 and 8 disc have two of the discs you mentioned ( Valkyrie and Shark).

Money is a little tight right now, but I can put off getting a set if saving for the 5 or 8 disc is worth it. What would you recommend?

Also looking to hopefully get some friends into this. They prob won't have their own discs to start. Would I be better off getting 5 or 8 discs to play with 2-3 people?

A bag really isn't necessary for only 3-4 discs. It's just preference though. You can get a bag like this that holds around 15 discs for pretty cheap.

u/LeviathN- · 1 pointr/RingOfElysium

Add jumping stilts as a 4th deploy-able pack players can take: https://www.amazon.com/Skyrunner-Kangaroo-Jumping-Exercise-Bouncing/dp/B00M3Y8ZA8

These could allow players to sprint faster and jump higher, effectively being a middle ground between bikes and grapples without being quite as useful in their specific areas. Example, can jump 2.5 stories but not grapple to 3-4 and won't be as fast as biking.

Also, possibly mitigating falling dmg a bit? Whether by an overall decrease to dmg or increasing the height required to actually dmg you.

August is amazing as it is the container for the Perseids Meteor shower which usually kicks off and peaks around Aug 11-13th. It's one of the most active cyclical showers and there is nothing like a warm August night watching streaks of light repetitively shoot across the sky. We usually head out to a stargazing pad and spend a few hours out there just joking around and oohing and aahhing at the sky.

A badass night frisbee to play with my daughter during the 31 days of August.

Yaheetech Portable Disc Golf Basket - Lightweight Double Chains Portable Practice Target Steel Hole Disc Golf Goals Catcher https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071X8HYWX/

u/chefkeithallen · 1 pointr/discgolf

They are showing pictures of two different baskets. As each basket has different chain configurations. One just has 24 outer chains, while the other has a set of inner chains.

The one with inner chains, has heavier/beefier chains. Looks identical to an MVP Black Hole Pro. They retail for about $140.

The basket with just the outer chains look like the baskets sold under the name Yaheetech. They retail at Amazon for about $100 each.

I'm not sure I'd order 10 or more of these baskets directly from China. For 10 baskets, I'd expect shipping to cost $300 to $500, more than what the baskets are worth. Maybe if I owned an import business, where I had my own shipping containers being shipped regularly. Maybe then it would be worth the hassle and the wait.

Anyways, you could probably get the Yaheetech on sale for about $85. Black Hole Pros are sometimes on sale for about $120. These aren't very heavy duty baskets though, and probably won't do well, if you keep them outside in the elements. Guess that's why they are considered portable.

If you search and asked around locally, maybe you could find some good USED baskets. It just matters where you are located. If it's a popular disc golf area, you may be in luck, as some courses get new baskets every 10 years or so, and they sell the old used ones for a nice discount.
