300 bucks? Try 199 or less from amazon warehouse. And if you're willing to go the Craigslist route, I've seen people offer slim ps3s for a hundred bucks and fat launch model ps3s ranging from 50 to 80. If you really want to play a ps3 game, there are ways. You don't necessarily have to spend 300 bucks. And in the next 6 months, expect them to go even for less with people wanting to get rid of them to buy a ps4. I personally own 2 PS3s (one for me, one for the wife), and even thou we will also be buying 2 PS4s, I intend to keep all consoles since the ps4 is not backwards compatible, but not everyone thinks like me. Expect many people to get rid of their ps3s in the next 6 months.

> Here we have to pay anywhere between R$1000 and R$1500 to buy a new PS3 SLIM, wich amounts to something around US$350~500.

Actually, that turns out not to be the case. PS3s are expensive locally for me, too, but I imported mine and got a relatively good deal. Just for example, this PS3 is US$197 delivered - internationally - which is only R$630. That's just a random example for today - there are plenty of options, like this one for R$725 delivered, or sometimes there are good deals at Amazon.fr and Amazon.de (Edit: just to update, import fees are charged at checkout so you can see exactly what the total cost will be.)

The PS3 is broadly region-free and has a universal power supply - there's not really a good reason not to import. ;)

> After that, we still have to pay around R$50~R$450 for a game, depending on the game, wich amounts to US$16~150 (a new Record Of Agarest War 2, for example, goes for R$400, wich amounts to US$133).

Again, that's not true. Games are very expensive in my country, too - I haven't bought any games locally. I have mostly used PSN Canada, although I also got a good deal on Amazon.co.uk vouchers last year and got some credit for PSN UK. Sometimes codes for download games in the US are quite cheap, so I do have a PSN US account, too. The prices range from R$6-R$30 - just buy games when they're on sale, obviously! ;)

You can also get used discs delivered internationally - I've been taking advantage of the falls in the pound, for example, at Game.co.uk, where I got six games (the Resistances, Killzones and the first Singstar) for R$77 delivered, which is R$13 each. Just wait for their semi-regular Buy Two Get One Free promotion on used games.

So there's no need to arbitrarily limit yourself to local prices!

Source on prices: experience of importing games to a country where games and consoles are expensive!

So now you have to get a $300 console plus a $150 netbook. And it's still not as good as a $600 PC. And if it's a 360 there's monthly fee to play online... =/

And a $150 Netbook has terrible performance. It would be lagging watching 720p videos on youtube.

Edit:
>which console is $300? did they put something new out?

Sorry, $350 for a PS3 that don't have ridiculous hard drive.

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-320GB-System-Move-Bundle-3/dp/B002I0K956

Not mentioning the 360 since you have to pay every month to play online. In that case, just get a $800 PC to compensate.

> There is a newer version of this item

Or you know, you could compare the recent NA PS3 Slim instead of a random Japanese one

u/turtle_mummy · 6 pointsr/PS3

I'm not sure why you would want a used system with a small hard drive for close to the cost of a brand-new system with a bigger drive. Amazon currently has The Last of Us bundle with a 500GB drive for $270:

>PS3 500GB The Last of Us Bundle

>Link: http://amzn.com/B00IA2NYT4

I got a similar bundle on Black Friday for $200, though it was only a 250GB drive but also included Arkham Origins. If you don't have a PS+ subscription, you will absolutely want it because it's worth far more than the $50 yearly subscription cost and you'll start out with a ton of great games right off the bat (Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite to name a few). And those are likely a lot better than the "under $10" games that Gamestop is offloading on you. See /r/playstationplus/ for more details.

Also, if you're looking to save some cash, you can get a third-party controller such as this one for half the cost of an official DualShock3. I really like this one because it's a clone of the XBox 360 controller so it helped make the transition much easier!

Here's the same one on Amazon, $270 tax free with free shipping. If you're going to buy GTA V anyway, this is definitely the way to go.

u/PS3s · 4 pointsr/PS3

the only PS3 model to not come with a hard drive bracket is the 12GB model. If you are not seeing any 250GB or 500GB models for sale online, you must not be in the USA (and in that case, you should tell us a country). here are a few I found that are currently shipping in the US:

u/SneakyLittleNinja · 4 pointsr/breakingmom

Maybe look into one of the old Fat PS3 if you want a console. EBay may have better results. It plays PS1, PS2 and of course PS3 games. It's only the launch PS3 consoles that can do it. You can play games like Little Big Planet, Star Wars Legos, or super old games like Spyro.

If not, you can always connect your PC to your TV if possible and play steam games forever haha.

Greed

Definitely think I'll go with something super greedy there.

u/CaspianX2 · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

Regardless of what Gamestop is trying to pass for a deal, $249.99 is the standard price for a 500GB PS3 with a few games packed in (that one had Lego Batman 3 and the Sly Cooper Collection, and this one has Lego The Hobbit) nowadays. So not a deal.

If you want a PS3, by all means get one, but don't think you're getting a great deal just because Gamestop says you are.

u/Idrivethekrystalship · 3 pointsr/playstation

If you're looking for one just to play a couple games and blu-rays, I'd get the super slim.

u/CoreyClarkYC93 · 3 pointsr/PS3

If you're planning on getting a PS3, and you're okay with/want Move, buy the this one, it's the best bang for your buck.

Also, with rumors of the PS3 Super-Slim still floating around, I'd wait a little while before getting a PS3.

u/snowbell55 · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

You could still save a bit of money if you can cancel the ps3. Get the super slim (500 gb) for $220, then get gta v which should be $30 or so. That'll save you $50 you can use for games.

Congrats on getting a ps3 and welcome to the PS family. It's a great great system. Oh - one more thing: if you can get a Playstation Plus subscription. 2 (sometimes more) free games each month, for $50 a year, less if you can find a deal.

u/ChingShih · 2 pointsr/demonssouls

Not sure if you had time to check out PS3 prices, but while I'm hunting for Prime Day deals I thought I'd point these out. I'm sure ebay has a ton of options as well, but to navigate that quagmire you'll want to find the exact SKUs of the PS3 model you're interested in.

Refurbished (in box???) 2nd version of the PS3 fat (so limited backwards compatibility) for $150 on Amazon.

Used PS3 slims for $125ish.

u/Mistrelvous · 2 pointsr/PS3

I would honestly just purchase the 12 GB super slim and replace the hard drive with a Seagate 1TB 2.5" SSHD Drive. Hybrid SSHD drives are much faster than regular drives.

Total cost for both is CDN$360.18 with free shipping and it is so easy to replace the 12GB hard drive with the 1 TB hybrid drive, just look up the many youtube videos on how to do it.

Playstation 3 is the ultimate item. I want it only because all the cool games I want are not for my PS2, but I'd be okay with never getting one.

I guess I'm not a die hard gamer.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds....good song.

u/smarteepantz · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A PS3 bundle. I just clicked the GTA bundle because it's my brother's favorite game.

The reason I want this item is that I love video games but I have not owned a console since I got a Gameboy color for Christmas as a child. It would also be something awesome to do with my brother.

If I never got this item, I would be sad, but I'm sure I would eventually buy myself a video game console, but it wouldn't be for another fiveish years, once I have enough money for something like that.

u/BBQBaconBurger · 2 pointsr/PS3

Oh, I just made a new thread about this without seeing yours. Here's what I posted in that one:

I'm looking at buying another PS3 and I've been checking around online. The best deals on new Slim consoles I've found so far are these:

320 GB Slim + PS Move on Amazon for $300:
The price keeps fluctuating on this one, but I've seen it as low as $302 recently.

Target's 320GB + MW3 bundle:
$269

WalMart's bundle:
Select the 160GB w/ extra controller for $259 bundle, select one of the 320GB bundles (MW3 or Uncharted 3) for $50 extra. So it's a 320GB bundle plus an extra DualShock for $309, and you can add in some GreatestHits titles for $10 a pop.

Any other good deals on PS3 consoles out there?

It seems like the retailers might be trying to sell off their stocks. Might there be a new bundle coming out, or is the PS3 slowly dying? With so many primo titles in the $20-40 range, now's a great time to get a PS3.

u/exElder_Hawk · 2 pointsr/playstation

I would look at Amazon. They still see new ones.

u/bespinluke · 2 pointsr/PS3

That's an awesom find, I'd love to have this sitting on my shelf. fyi Amazon has them but they are overpriced.

u/jbigboote · 2 pointsr/PS4

you can get a brand new 12GB PS3 for $200. And it comes with a one year warranty. For some people getting a hard drive and a slot-loading drive might be worth extra money, but not getting a warranty tends to negate that when Sony charges $100+tax for almost any repair. I can buy a super slim hard disk bracket for $15 and add any SATA drive I have handy for free. or spend $50 and get a brand new 320GB drive (again, with warranty).

assuming both your controllers are OEM DS3s, the extra one would be worth $20 in my book. all the other stuff you have, the bluetooth remote, controller charger bay, texting controller add-on and 6 games are things you'd be better off selling separately. if you want to lump them in, I can't see them being worth more than $50 total (and that assumes the games don't all suck). So $150 for the console, $20 for the extra controller, and $50 for the other stuff puts you at $220. I think that is high, and if I was in the market for a PS3, I wouldn't even bother try to haggle with you on a $220 listing, even with all that stuff.

But that is the beauty of Craigslist, you can make a listing with everything for $220, and see if anyone bites. If they don't, relist with a new price. but if you are in a hurry, you will need to price it lower.

I don't think that there are any Bluray players that have a great reputation for their included apps, so it is going to be a bit of a dice-roll there.

My advice it to buy an inexpensive Roku and a refurb Bluray player. Quality refurb Blurays players can be easily found in Amazon.

Or buy a used PS3 for ~120 dollars:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00E369SDM/ref=sr_1_1_twi_gam_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1452698231&sr=8-1&keywords=ps3

I ordered mine on Amazon and it is currently en-route and should reach me today (Friday). None of the GameStops near me have it yet, but Amazon has plenty in stock.

u/CaliManRising · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I feel like you'd like the switch, and with the price if you want the games it'll pay off in the long run! But, if you think it'll be a tad pricey, the PS3 has Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (kind of like smash) and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed (kind of like MK and some people like it more but they are definitely two different games that tackle kart racing in two different ways -- I have played and loved both).

A cursory search shows that a basic New PS3, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed will cost about $225 and you also have the entire PS3 library at your whim whenever you want it. BUT the Switch will not only come out with newer games including Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Binding of Issac Rebirth+ but will also receive all the amazing, critically acclaimed Nintendo first-party titles. In my opinion the Switch will be worth it, but the PS3 is a cheaper and safer alternative even if you throw in a couple more controllers and maybe another game (especially because it doubles as a blu-ray player).

here's a good starting point. just look over the different bundles and compare each and see which best fits your gaming needs. like i said, i'd go small hdd and save money and use it toward a larger hdd later

like you said before. i'd wait until next week to see if they happen to drop the price at E3.

u/DrowningSink · 1 pointr/PS3

Amazon wasn't nearly as kind as I thought. Their only 160GB bundle that isn't exorbitantly higher than other retailers (seriously, how do they get away with this) is that Harry Potter Blu-Ray bundle, and the person I'd be getting this for would likely be very ambivalent about receiving that.

Persona 5 PS3 from Amazon

Playstation 3 from Amazon

---

Both new, not preowned.

Don't try pull that bullshit, the PS3 production may have ceased it's still perfectly feasible to buy the game and a new PS3 in the wild.

You might have an argument 12-18 months from now. But the emulation isn't being done in 12 months.

---

The game is also a digital download on PS3, so it's going to be a while before you can argue it's truly not available.

----

>I want a pc port. I will buy the game if its on my platform. They just dont want to sell it to me.

Which is irrelevant to that fact that you can legimately buy a new PS3 copy of the game to be a legally covered emulation. A copy which Atlus will see money from.

Your stance on this is the very reason why piracy gets emulation in shit.

Because you have an "I want it my way" attitude. And are looking for any possible excuse you can find to justify your actions.

Which is worse because emulation has provided you with a legally approved way of playing the game. Provided you go and buy a fucking physical copy.

Best bet would be to by a new one honestly. You can get the GTAV bundle for less than $300 so you get a game with it. Also the ps3 has a 500gb HDD which is great if you decide to buy PS+. There is also an Uncharted 3 bundle that has a 250gb hdd and a year of PS+ for $250 on amazon and im sure other places as well. Basically paying $170 for the ps3, $30 for the GOTY of Uncharted 3, and $50 for the PS+ subscription which will pay for itself in the games and discounts you can get. Amazon has them listed for less then 200$ that took me 30 seconds to look at. 1400$ is NOT a great deal. Not even a bit. Good for that pawn shop, or even a few. I had the same issue with mine. I kept it for years not wanting to give up on the save files on the hard drive. Decided to roll the dice the other week and bought a salvaged power supply off Amazon for $15, took 10 minutes to install after watching YouTube video (no sodering, just some screws) and presto! Things alive and I got all my save files back. It still runs really hot so I don't use it too often but it works and that's all that matters. You might wanna try the same thing. Maybe you'll have the same luck

EDIT: Here's a link to the part I bought

Hmm.... I’m just lost on this. It doesn’t bother me to have to load them onto the internal hard drive.. I’ll just keep them on my external and load the ones I want to access immediately..... my real concern is buying the right ps3. This one is very reasonable. Can you tell if it’s the type that can be modded. I’m not sure about this “standard” model.

grab a $6 hard drive tray, and your old PS3 harddrive, and you are set.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00E369SDM/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

you can get a refurb one straight from Amazon (no dodgy 3rd party bull) for about $110, though it fluctuates between $90-120 usually depending on how much Amazon paid for them at the time they picked them up.

also... if you want a NEW PS3... you had better act fast. This is basically as cheap as they will ever get. Sony already stopped production of new PS3s in Japan yesterday... so its only a matter of time before they stop all production of new consoles worldwide and the price for new systems will skyrocket. http://variety.com/2017/digital/news/playstation-3-production-halted-sony-japan-1202012032/

This is not a sale, but it's still a fantastic bang for the buck. If your son is mature enough and into the series, I would highly recommend the Grand Theft Auto V 500 GB PS3 bundle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DBKSN8M/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1377746159&sr=8-3&pi=SL75
After applying the value of GTA 5 and the 30 day PlayStation Plus membership, you are getting the console for around $200. In comparison Sony has recently released a 12 GB version going for $200 as well. For the same price you will have access to a significantly larger storage capacity. One of the greatest values to be found on the PS3 is PlayStation Plus, featuring tons of fantastic discounts for members and up to 64 free digital games per year! If your son continues down that road, he will definitely need the extra space.

P.S. sorry for the poor formatting, I am using my phone

The disc drive/optical drive or whatever has gone out. It was reading games, but not BluRay movies (idk, it didn't make sense) but now it's not reading anything. Just making some horrible clanking/grinding noise when I put a disc in and then sitting there doing nothing. I don't have the technical aptitude to be able to tackle it myself, and best I can tell it'd cost about $170 to send it off to Sony to get fixed since it's out of warranty (I bough it second-hand). So I decided I'll just save up $130 additional and buy this combo pack, either with AC3 or GTA V. It'd be a major upgrade as far as the hard drive goes, which is a plus since I've been using my PS3 a lot for movies lately.

If Amazon is anything to go by then you can sell it from £150 onwards since it's in near-new condition.

Not bad, I would have tried for one with a 500gb HD though. Here's the one I have, all I had to do afterward was buy the $6 mounting kit and stick my old 500gb hd in it.

Sell Xbox 360: Gamestop(last resort), Craigslist, Ebay

Buy PS3: Gamestop(last resort), Amazon(Brand new), Ebay and Craigslist

Cheapest: http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-3-250GB-System-Slim-Redesign/dp/B00AEX81SG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1371865059&sr=8-7&keywords=PS3

These slot loader types are the cheapest ones. You can usually find bundles and whatnot that around $250, but they are brand new. If you want used and cheap, you can try Ebay and Gamestop.

No it isn't. A brand new PS3 is literally 5 dollars cheaper than a new PS4. No one is letting a used PS4 go for $150 unless they're desperate, which isn't the norm.

PS3: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-500-GB-System/dp/B009DL2TBA/ref=lp_14210711_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1498080279&sr=1-1

PS4: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1498080299&sr=1-1&keywords=playstation+4

And seriously don't act like PS4 was $250 when it was new. They cut the price in half within less than 3.5 years, that's horrible as far as a loss goes for Sony. Both consoles were $500 new. You could build a better PC in 2013 for $500, and you can build a better PC now for $250, as well as $500.

Furthermore, stop acting like these consoles are sold at the price paid for the components. They aren't. The alleged cost to build an Xbox One was $471, which is total bullshit. If true, it means the components in these consoles are total trash or were supplied at a massive discount. A more accurate comparison would be "Build a comparable PC for $800 - $1000 and then just cut that price in half".

I just easily threw together an AMD system with better parts for $430, hell I could swap out the RX560 for a 1060 and it would still be under $500.

If you werent so fucking lazy youd could go to amazon and look for yourself. Jackass. Thats what you get for helping on r/gaming.

They are also three hundred brand new so by the power of deduction most people could figure it out. Now commence the down-voting because I actually gave a shit and answered the question.

At the moment the GTA5 500GB bundle starts at $360 (on Amazon). I'd say $269 is a price drop. 12GB systems go for $199 without a game (at Walmart). For $20 more and the price of a game you get much more storage.

So yeah, you could technically just go ahead and spend $199 on a 12GB system... but you'd eventually want to upgrade the HDD.

u/acepincter · -6 pointsr/buildapc

This will be ok for graphic design, and for non-intensive games with the detail scaled back to low.

If you wanna play hot games for a $600 build, I'd suggest one of these
