Ramekins for all of your baking needs. It's also fantastic to use for cooking (holding onto spices, separating eggs, etc.) and for serving dips.

I'm happy with my Atlas pepper mill. I like the traditional look and sturdy feel and the brass has picked up a nice patina over the years.

I just got one yesterday too!

White elephant huh? How's this for a white elephant? Haha, or this

I prefer good old classic pizza shakers: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007T40P28?keywords=pizza%20shaker&qid=1452969394&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

Cheap, no moving parts and easy to clean. The holes are large enough for flakey stuff or coarse ground salt and pepper.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/oglaf

Amazon says they will sell you one.

These don't suck, but they're not as good as an old fashioned pepper mill.

u/blaaaaaargh · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This is pretty fantastic. :D

If I win I'd love this, this, and this off my under $5 list!

IF I FITS I SITS

Thank you for the contest!

Most grocery stores sell a one time use pepper mill. Personally I invested once in a decent refillable one and buy peppercorn in bulk.

Something like this should do the trick. You can find bulk peppercorn online as well but its common in most grocery stores where I live.

I didn't get my package either 😭😭. I really wanted to show off my shark-eating-a-dude's-leg salt and pepper shaker set.

Edit: the piece of high culture in question

u/tppytel · 2 pointsr/Cooking

I researched the various options on Amazon a few months back and went with this one. I only got around to unpacking and filling it a month or so ago, so I don't have any long-term use reports. But it seems fine, functional, and inexpensive. I just wanted a basic, adjustable grinder where I could easily see what's inside (because I keep both black and white pepper around), and this one seems cheap and good enough so far.

Gandalf and Saruman salt and pepper shakers!!!!!! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. They are so cool and so quirky and they need to be in my house but my SO thinks they are a waste of money, so I haven't bought them for myself yet. When I was a little girl I wanted to be Gandalf, so there is some sentimental value there.

u/rahal777 · 2 pointsr/seduction

Buy a salt cellar (http://www.amazon.com/Ironwood-Gourmet-28221-Salt-Cellar/dp/B000EVIWS2) and fill it with nice sea salt. Not only is it just more fun to cook with, but it looks impressive as shit when you start seasoning things with pinches of salt from that thing vs. just shaking it into watever you're making.

u/exackerly · 2 pointsr/funny

You should exchange it for this

u/WhiskeyandKittens · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Holy smokes, Batman! This is a super cute salt and pepper shaker set!

u/hidden_zebra · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

I had an issue with fungus gnats my first grow and gave DE a try. I started using a metal pepper shaker to cut down on how messy it was. The shaker lets you evenly distribute with almost no mess.

And to fill up the shaker, you can just scoop it straight down into the DE bag.

I try to avoid being salty, but when I am, I put my headphones on and try my beast not to hear anyone. Like when people at lab don't pay attention and turn off the sterilizer when my things are still in it, and no one will fess up to say how long its been off.

Get involved in chat, daily thread, start discussions, and check birthday calendar if you want to be included in everything. I like to paint my nails when everything stresses me out. cats because the grey ones remind me of my cat. Something Interesting :P.

I'm going to link something from /u/tyara83 's WL. She sent me a git card today. Went to the front page of RAOA, and here she had done the same thing for 19 other people! The saddest (or perhaps, best!) part was, while her username sounded vaguely familiar, I really didn't know her at all.

This sub is growing sooooo quickly that even though I spend way more time on here than I should, I feel like there are so many awesome people I've barely scratched the surface of getting to know. So this contest (awesome idea, btw) was the perfect opportunity to learn more about her.

So Tyara has been here for just a little over a month, and has already been so super generous. Her Intro is freaking awesome, and that alone told me she's my kind of gal (another grown-up who refuses to act their age - lol). Then, I went to her WL and HOLY CRAP!! It is filled with so much fun awesomeness, including this freaking crazy cool Scooby Doo salt and pepper shaker set.

So thanks again for a wonderful idea for a contest, kirakaydawn, and tyara83, I am looking so forward to getting to know you better here! :)

u/kurvyyn · 2 pointsr/sousvide

This is the exact reason I bought this. Thing feels purpose built for sous vide to me.

Look for "kosher salt". It's not kosher, per se, it's used in koshering. Don't bother with pink and yellow and black salt or whatever, unless it's going to be seen. Salt is salt, and those "trace minerals" don't really impart any flavor unless the concentration of the fancy salt is very high (and even then, the thing tastes mostly just salty).

You can get a pepper grinder for a few bucks and then fill it with whole peppercorns at the grocery store. You can also sometimes get the peppercorns in their own grinder.

u/zombie_cyclone · 1 pointr/HotPeppers

Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZFWRY7

I usually just grind mine up using a coffee grinder and make powder or flakes.

u/happygodavid · 1 pointr/Welding

Hi folks. I need some help, and I am a total noob when it comes to joining metal. I'd like to add a handle to this salt and pepper tray. Something like a cross between this and this. I'd like to use either stainless steel rod or copper rod, and I'd like to bend it to the shapes I have in mind and join the rod pieces together. What would be the best way to do that? Any suggestions on stainless vs copper? And would a cheap soldering iron work (I've got one... just not sure if the cheap solder I've got would work...)? Thanks in advance for your help. :)

I spent so much on cheap ones, I should have just sucked it up and bought a really good one in the first place--it would have saved me money. I finally got an Atlas mill. It works better than any other one I've ever used. It grinds very well, and it grinds a reasonable quantity of pepper quickly. And as a bonus, it's gorgeous. The only downside is that it doesn't really do a coarse grind, only fine--but on the occasions when I need it ground that way, I still have my old mortar and pestle.

u/ChefM53 · 1 pointr/Cooking

for the french toast eggs and bacon, do you know how she likes her eggs cooked? If she is a scrambled egg person, then I would just scramble with salt and pepper, serve on the plate next to the bacon, the french toast I would stack and sprinkle with powdered sugar for presentation. Put the powdered sugar in a jar or container with a shaker top like this one

https://www.amazon.com/Update-International-SK-RPF-Perforated-Stainless/dp/B007T40P28/ref=sr_1_4?

You can get them or something like it at Walmart for pretty cheap.

or use an old salt shaker and only fill half way full. (also make sure you rinse it out, you don't want any salt in there.

for the Alfredo and salad. I would plate the alfredo in a large bowl, served over a plate or charger

here are some photos of ways to serve fettuccine Alfredo.

As for your salad if it's a side salad then I would serve it either on a plate or in a moderate sized bowl.

How about solid fish pellets in an electric pepper grinder? That will grind the pellets, and the amount dispensed should be fairly easy to control.

This painting is on my private wishlist. It is breathtakingly beautiful and I have it as a reminder to paint it myself. And Ticket to Ride is on my default. That game is so fucking fun.

It’s either gonna be the vampire and wife salt and pepper shaker set, or the holographic nail polish. No idea if you think they’re interesting, but I sure do.

u/PresentPicker · 1 pointr/Gifts

For the time being, I'd lean away from a heart or hearts theme. Might be best to be a little more subtle until you've identified where your relationship is going. You could take a more innocent angle with a Two Peas in a Pod Theme which could be taken as either "friends" or "more than friends".

Similarly, putting together a scrapbook of pictures, movie stubs, menu from your favorite restaurant along with hand written notes next to each of the items is a memorable gift.

Or something thoughtful, yet simple, like Custom Map Key Ring of her home city in Japan (if they are able to do international maps) or Birth Month Flower Earrings.

With her being from Japan, there are some customs she may follow...

  • If she gives you one chocolate for Valentine's Day, that is seen as a obligatory gift for colleagues and other male friends; however, if you receive more than one chocolate, then she (if following custom) considers you more than a friend. In the latter case, on March 14, then you should give her more expensive chocolates.
  • Gift wrapping should be taken seriously
  • Custom says that gifts should be given and received with two hands.
  • Avoid the numbers 4 or 9 with your gifts as those numbers are considered unlucky. Though, items in pairs or with the number 8 are considered lucky.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

I'm actually in the middle of writing a cookbook about pizza right now, designed to take people from absolute beginner to master :-)

Dried onion I'd just buy. You can get it as powder or as flake depending on the texture you are after.

As you guess you can just combine and stir up when everything is dry. For something like this powder you could probably just put it in a shaker to use as needed. Something like this, though you may need one with larger holes; http://www.amazon.com/Commercial-Stainless-Pepper-Shakers-Dredges/dp/B000JUTCEQ/ref=pd_sim_k_1
