I fucking hate that, especially since I don't like most of those "girly" colors. I hate that nearly all of my skiing gear is purple for this reason. I needed to buy goggles - the men's model of a particular brand comes in black, gray, white, red, orange, yellow, light green, dark green, blue, and a few random patterns.

The women's. Black, white, baby blue, and multiple shades of both pink and purple. Thanks. And that's on Amazon where every color is available. When I bought the goggles in person at a store, all they had were black, white, and purple. I bought the white ones... which still had the logo stitched into the band in purple.

(I tried the men's model but they were too big for my head.)

Hmm, many many moons ago I managed a Sportchek. I certainly didn't have the latitude to make a pricing system change to bump up any SKU from $99.99 to $129.99, so unless it was manually adjusted up to $129.99 every time one came to the cashier (and I really doubt that the average Sportchek manager has the time or inclination to hatch this scheme in the midst of a Christmas rush, all the cashiers would have to be in on it, and for what? Clear out a bit of stock and make an extra few hundred in sales?), I suspect that this is a system-wide thing.

But I agree that it seems pretty damn shady. Are you absolutely sure that you paid $129 for the Item #: 331856964 version of these and there isn't a red lensed version of the Item #: 332129363 version that you ended up with?

EDIT: fwiw, there seems like an awful lot of color options in the more expensive version, including red, so I'd make sure before I call interpol or whatever.

Protip though: When I worked there, the trick to getting whatever the fuck you want at SportChek is to ask for the regional manager's phone number. If it's still the same system as when I worked there, the regional manager really doesn't want to deal with this shit, and the store manager knows that the regional manager doesn't want to deal with this shit, and he knows that the regional manager will just tell the manager to give you whatever you want no matter how wrong and how ridiculous you're being, so the store manager will just cut out that whole headache and give you a set of $400 goggles for $50 or whatever if you play that card.

Try to recycle as much stuff as you can. If you do other sports/athletic things, I'm sure you own dri-fit (or similar) t-shirts/shorts/underwear. Use that as a base layer.

For a mid layer, a fleece/synthetic hoody would be ideal, but eh, if all you have is cotton, that's fine too. It's a mid layer, it's not supposed to get wet.

For a jacket, you can just buy something cheap and reasonably waterproof, no need for expensive membrane fabrics. Personally, I'm partial to Columbia stuff. Quality is passable, and I've often found last season's jackets or pants for $50 or less.

For pants, you should consider renting something nice (Gore Tex or other membrane fabrics). As a beginner you'll probably spend a lot of time on your ass on wet snow, so...

For gloves, just anything cheap (~$20). Or maybe you'll want to rent something nice too, since you'll be touching the snow a lot. I'm personal to FreeThePowder if you want to spend a little bit more to buy, but keep in mind that leather isn't waterproof unless waxed.

Wraparound sunglasses work in a pinch, but goggles are highly recommended. These Chinese goggles are pretty good - probably the best thing short of spending $150+ for the goggles they copied. https://www.amazon.com/OutdoorMaster-Ski-Goggles-PRO-Interchangeable/dp/B014XKTFI0/ref=asc_df_B014XKTFI0

Socks - wool/synthetic for sure. Generally I tell people to use the sock to compensate for the rental boot fit. If you have narrow/lower volume feet, wear a thicker sock. If you have wide/high volume feet, wear a thin ski sock. But always wool/synthetic, never cotton (this is so much more important than for base layers IMO), and never double up.

I use this mask https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ZG7RF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_onhaCbP7A07EY

With this helmet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KGBWK8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2ohaCb41FZT1K

With these Goggles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PCJW3Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9qhaCbSV89JDR

I don't really have a problem with any fogging unless I'm putting my head down.

The facemask has a vent area for your breath.

Looks pretty good together imo: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Bf4BDSiibV8fp9ew8

I think it looks like an Electric Visual EG2 Snowboard Goggles in Freak Out-Matte / Bronze Red Chrome. http://www.sunglassgarage.com/Electric-EG2-Snow-Goggle/Freak-Out-Matte-Bronze-Red-Chrome.html Finding an exact pair with the Freak Out-Matte is looking to be difficult since the websites I found that used to have them are now out of stock. If you aren't too picky about the Matte, here is a selection from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Visual-EG2-Snow-Goggle/dp/B00LGYYZ2S Edit: I also found a website that provides replacement lenses: https://store.prolens.com/electric-eg2-replacement-lenses-p165.aspx Edit 2: grammer.

I use these. I have one clear pair and one tinted, switch it up depending on the weather etc. They work pretty damn well with 3/4 and full face helmets that I have.

Asking for these for Christmas. Are these a decent pair of goggles (Anon M2's for those too lazy to click link) or is there a better pair in the same price range? For the last two years I've used a shitty $20 pair so I'm sure they're an upgrade but I'm looking to get money's worth. Thanks.

Looking to buy a couple pairs of goggles, one for day one for night. The following sets are on sale on Amazon so I'd like to take advantage of that but I'm not sure what to look for.

Goggles I'm looking at so far:
