Well I'm not going to nice guy or whatever but what are you looking to improve upon? Or in another way, what do you need motivation to accomplish?

Edit: I'll just post what I do for everyone -

Starting with Branch Chained Amino Acids (BCAAs): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branched-chain_amino_acid - and here is the important take away: "BCAAs promote protein synthesis and turnover, signaling pathways, and metabolism of glucose." So what does that mean exactly? Well "promote protein synthesis and turnover" means you’re going to recover faster AND build muscle faster while also burning fat faster, why? In non science terms when we work out we are tearing our muscles apart and rebuilding them, we're pumping protiens into our body to repair the muscles and to make them prepared for the next time we do that particular exercise. The BCAA accelerates that healing process thus the "recovery" part of BCAAs, even better they allow the muscles to absorb new protein faster which makes the workout more useful. Not only that but BCAAs will also prevent muscle loss when you take breaks, or help maintain gains, I take it every day regardless of if I'm working out or not. I use a powder, Cellucor, https://www.amazon.com/Cellucor-Supplement-Tropical-Punch-Servings/dp/B00CX98ULW/ref=sr_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1518185581&sr=8-8&keywords=bcaa%2Bcellucor&th=1 it doesn't have any BS in it like caffeine or sugar, it's just 10gs of BCAAs. It's not a hocus pocus stimulant or any other BS, it's the real deal. You can also get it at GNC.

I put one scoop of powder in with 20oz of water and drink while I'm working out, I do caution you, if you drink it fast it might make your skin tingle. I tend to work through 10oz and then refill my bottle trying to get 30oz of water in me while I'm working out.

I take creatine directly after my workout, I like the Cellucor brand, it’s no nonsense and works great: https://www.amazon.com/Cellucor-Micronized-Monohydrate-COR-Performance-Unflavored/dp/B01BVRO7T0/ref=sr_1_9_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1518186558&sr=1-9&keywords=creatine&th=1 There are 10 bajillion people who will tell you take it before, during, after, whatever, it’s one of those thing.. Personally I take a scoop of flavorless creatine in another 20oz of water directly after working out. So within that time line I’m downing 50oz of water with both BCAAs and creatine to great effect. When I travel I keep Ziploc bags with this stuff in it and an empty water bottle so I can hit the gym in hotels. Creatine is also great for losing weight, it’s not just for bulking up, that’s more the job of protein. Here is a copypasta “Yes! Creatine helps you gain and retain metabolically-active lean muscle tissue, which makes it an indirect fat burner. Put simply, the more muscle you have on your body, the harder you can work in the weight room, and the more calories you can burn both during and after your training sessions.”

Protein. I use a vegan powder, no nonsense, no BS, no added crap, here is another copypasta saying it better than I could say it: “As you are losing weight, your body loses both muscle and fat. During this process it is especially important that you continue to eat enough protein in your diet. Having adequate protein coming in from your food fuels fat burning while preserving calorie-burning lean muscle. I use: https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Organic-Protein/dp/B075KGR37C/ref=sr_1_5_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1518186788&sr=1-5&keywords=vegetable%2Bprotein%2Bpowder&th=1

How much protein should you have? Copypasta! “Protein intake around 30% of calories may be optimal for weight loss. This amounts to 150 grams per day for someone on a 2000 calorie diet. You can calculate it by multiplying your calorie intake by 0.075.” For me, I try to take in about 175 grams of protein a day which frankly is a challenge. For reference I’m 5’11” and bulked weigh 170, when maintaining I’m around 162, with 24g from the powder in the morning, about 25g from a salmon sandwich for lunch, 50g combined from vegan sourced powerbars, then I try to squeeze in another 75 through dinner or other methods. If you’re trying to lose weight it will fly off – those BCAAs – now you’re using them right, packing protein into your system, burning fat, and packing muscles full of what they live on.

This is starter information and I caution you on cheap supplements. The reason I go with Cellucor is because look at the reviews and ratings. It’s no BS, and I do vegan for protein because it’s planted based. Cheap or dodgy looking supplements that promise crap won’t deliver and can even cause health problems. You can start researching this stuff and get into a good rabbit hole to find out even more information.. what else.. As you go further down the path and want a 12 pack or whatever you’ll need to learn about cutting and bulking. I’m cutting right now and almost down to 155, over the course of the next 6-9 months I’ll add 15 pounds of pure muscle. That’s 2 pounds a month which is about as high as it gets.

Ok! Let’s workout. Weight is based entirely on you and what you can do. You’re not working to failure you’re working to almost failure this is called “volitional fatigue” and what the means is that by the end of 3 sets the last 2-3 motions should be quite hard and the last should be almost impossible. During the first set you should feel quite tired and the last motion should be hard. So if you’re slinging around a 10 pound weight and it’s easy, it’s pointless, jack it up to 15, try again. This is a learning process for you. I keep a printed piece of paper with me every time I work out and keep track of my weight class as I bulk up so I’m going from 20s to 25s to 30s to 35s throughout months of training.

We do a set and we rest for 90 seconds, keep a watch or clock around, if you ever wondered why there are clocks in gyms and people are staring at them, this is why. So I’ll say 1 set of 8, rest 90, means do 8 repetitions of this exercise then rest 90 seconds, then do set 2, rest 90, then do set 3, now rest 2 minutes. Now start the next exercise.

Day 1 – Phase 1 – 3 months. - I warm up by hitting the stupid elliptical or stair machine for 5 minutes, or row for 5km on the machine. It get's the body ready for what you're about to do to it.

Dumbell curls – Biceps : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av7-8igSXTs – 3 sets of 8

Goblett squat – thighs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIrcxSkwui8 - 3 sets of 8

Half getups – upper abs and back - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVP8ul6vRVM – 3 sets, complete entire cycle 20 times, yeah 20! Burn those abs baby!

Wide grip pull downs – back and lats - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gL2XgHghLY – 3 sets of 8

Triceps kickback – triceps of course - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO81bExngMI – 3 sets of 12 – you should be burning by the time you’re done with this, use enough weight.

Dumbell press – chest, different part of tris, bis, back, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3YrlBmjWrY – 3 sets of 8.

Chest supported dumbell row - bis shoulders back, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl2MnK1i504 – 3 sets of 10

Reverse crunch - lower abs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyv14e2QDq0 – 3 sets of build up, I do 3 sets of 150, I don’t suggest doing that day one. Go until you can’t anymore. Rest 2 minutes, do it again until you can’t do anymore. You want a V? This is how you get the V! BURN!!!

Ok So I’ve giving you the youtube links for day 1, y’all can search for these. This is day 2.

dumbell upright row – 3 sets of 8

machine crunches – 3 sets to fatigue, I do 150 per set

dumbell double standing row – 3 sets of 8

cross-body hammer curl – 3 sets of 8

cross-bench dumbell pullover – 3 sets of 8

lying leg curls – 3 sets of 12

side jack knife – 3 sets to fatigue, I do 50

dumbell front raise – 3 sets of 10.

I do day 1 Monday, day 2 Tuesday, rest Wednesday, day 1 Thursday, day 2 Friday, Saturday I ride my bike about 20-30 miles depending. Rest Sunday. If you do this for 90 days send me the progress pic because it will be amazing, this is my “get ready for the beach!” workout routine. I start it in January, ending in March, then I start my phase 2 routine which is summer body! The concept is to work out different muscle groups, the body gets used to different motions, so swap out routines by the day and then by the quarter. Any questions send me a note.

This is a great rice/pea/hemp blend https://truenutrition.com/p-1169-vegan-protein-optimizer-formula-1lb.aspx and you get a discount with the code "5PERCENTOFF"

The NOW plant protein complex is good and cheap, too https://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Plant-Protein-Complex/dp/B00NIJ01FO

So you need an ice cream maker, but that's it for special tools.

3 scoops of Isopure 0 carb protein powder (this is how you pick your flavor)

1 cup equivalent of sweetener (I like EzSweets liquid splenda, but you can use whichever sweetener you like)

1/8 cup of Food Grade Glycerine This is your softening agent.

1 pint of Heavy Cream (the lower carbs the better, but don't worry if you can't find one that lists 0, as that is a rounding thing)

1 cup of Califa Farms Unsweetened Almond Milk I have tried others, but this one gives the best texture. I'm not sure why this is the case. I personally like the toasted coconut one because although you can't taste the coconut, the resulting ice cream it has a creamier texture than the normal one.

That's it!!

Put that stuff into a blender and blend it GENTLY. Add the almond milk, the protein powder, the sweetener and the glycerine first, blend it up (will be crazy thick) and then add the heavy cream and GENTLY blend that smooth.

If you put it on high and just let your blender run, it will spin the cream into butter forcing you to put everything onto the stove to gently heat it and re-emulsify it. It's a pain so just don't overblend it.

Once that is done, you just pour that into your ice cream maker and let that work it's magic. The ice cream will be soft and flavorful and creamy and amazing.

It isn't low calories, and it actually is super nutritious from the IsoPure protein powder so it is usable as meal replacement Ice Cream (yea that's apparently a thing...)

If you use the Strawberry Cream IsoPure then it comes out kind of like the ice cream version of Strawberry Fluff. It is an amazing dessert.

If you like the cocoa, try it with a scoop or two of "Vanilla Ice Cream" (that specific flavor) whey powder from Optimum:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GISTZ4

Makes it tastes pretty close to Nesquik (well, it's still Soylent...lol) & adds 24 grams of protein per scoop. Bonus, if you chill the chocolate soylent in the fridge first & then blend in 2 scoops of the vanilla whey powder, you not only get a total of 68 grams of protein in your drink (20g Soylent + 24g whey scoop + 24g whey scoop), but it actually makes it pretty tasty! The Optimum powder isn't gritty & that specific flavor actually tastes good (not like chemicals, like a lot of the other flavors). I use a motorized blender bottle (PROMIXX) to mix mine on the go.

u/techjeep · 5 pointsr/keto

After having the same issue, and asking around, I ended up getting Isopure ZeroCarb protein powder and moving it with unsweetened almond milk. I do 16oz of almond milk and 2 scoops of powder. Zero net carbs and 50g of protein with 1g of fat. You can put a tbsp of MCT oil in it you want to add some fat.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E8ZJH2

The best way is fish... High protein, no carbs. But I can only eat so much fish.

u/QueenAnRevenge · 4 pointsr/lowcarb

Isopure vanilla the 7.5 pound jug on amazon is $83. In my opinion this is the best for overall taste and quality at $11 a pound I’m comfortable with the price.

TWO POST THURSDAY.

I splurged the other day and bought this protein powder. It arrived yesterday and it's pretty good. It's subtly sweet, tastes like they just used cocoa powder, mixes well with water, and is thin (for my preferred chugging method). That's really all there is to my review. I wish I could tell you how this protein powder made me able to think for myself, but, sadly, protein powder is incapable of eliciting such emotions from sentient beings.

u/dizmo · 3 pointsr/vegetarianketo

The protein powder I use is http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Best-Isopure-Strawberries-3-Pounds/dp/B000E8ZJH2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420551597&sr=8-1&keywords=isopure+strawberry which is 0 carbs.

High sources of protein I keep around are cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs, & peanut butter.

u/sliverdragon37 · 3 pointsr/FODMAPS

If you're strictly vegan and looking for low fodmap protein, there's protein from:

  • Peanuts (https://smile.amazon.com/Premium-Powdered-Peanut-Butter-Farms/dp/B00NQLE5JC)
  • Brown Rice (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0787ST38Q)
  • Homemade Seitan (if you can tolerate gluten. I happen to not have issues with gluten. I have recipes if you want)
  • Well rinsed, canned garbanzo beans. I can tolerate some limited beans, and I have pushed that up by eating a bit every day. Start with 1/4 cup once/day, wait until you stop farting up a storm from that (usually a week or two), then increase quantity slightly until you can handle more.
  • Quinoa (not really itself a good source of protein, but when used as your carb for the meal can up the protein content a bit)
  • Tofu (extra firm, rinse well, pat dry, start with a little and work up)
  • Pea Protein Isolate (Personally this one is a no-go, but I've heard some people have some luck with it. Handle with care)

If you are just vegetarian + low fodmap, but not vegan:

  • Whey Protein Isolate (https://smile.amazon.com/d/Whey-Protein-Isolate-Powders/Nutricost-Whey-Protein-Isolate-Unflavored/B01HOPJAAE)
  • Quorn Grounds (The only quorn I've found which doesn't have onion or garlic)
  • Eggs (I have quite a bit of trouble with eggs whites, but some don't. You can take 1 tsp baking soda and dissolve it in water to counteract your bad reaction to egg whites a bit. FWIW I have no problem with egg yolks, only the whites)
  • Skyr (I eat a lot of Siggi's plain 0%, or Icelandic Provisions plain skyr. It's like greek yoghurt but with more protein)

I haven't tried a lot of protein powders but I have a tub of this kind and it's working great for me. The only thing that bothers me is how sweet it is. The sugar content is actually very low but it's too sweet for me. I confirmed with my nutritionist that whey won't bother me. It's the yogurt I have to worry about, thank god for lactase pills!

u/zo1d · 3 pointsr/Fitness

What do you dislike about using 2 scoops? Is it the additional calories, or value for money? Because I just compared it with 4 other random protein powders on Amazon (on the first page of results), and at current prices, you get considerably more protein per dollar than the others.

protein per serving * servings per container / price

EAS: 49.8
BSN: 26.4
MusclePharm: 32.5
MyProtein: 22.7
ON: 30.6

Edit: For the record, the place I've been buying EAS from sells it for $40/5lb bag, so I've been getting about 37.7g/$

u/JustarianCeasar · 3 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

Simple and easy way to get more protein into your diet. When looking at the nutrition label, if it says "Nutrition facts" the contents have been verified by a relatively strict process. if it says "Supplement facts" the actual content is allowed to vary a lot from what's listed on the label.

If you're looking for a meal replacement, I've found that Muscle Milk brand powder works well. If you're just wanting a protein supplement, I really like the flavours of Optimum Nutrition and they're relatively low carb. If you're trying to lean more towards the vegetarian side of things, Garden of Life is an excellent option as well. Although I personally think the texture is pretty "gritty" the flavours aren't bad.

Regardless of what you choose, if you do some price comparison among top brands, you'll find it to be a fairly good deal in price/calorie compared to pre-packaged foods. Almost all of the powders are going to be a healthy option for adding to your diet. For myself, I've found protein shakes to be the best small meal replacement for when I'm trying to cut weight, and a great source for extra calories to add between each meal if I'm trying to bulk up.

u/artyboi37 · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I'm planning on stocking up on protein powder again, but what I usually get (ON Whey Protein) jumped in price a bit, and a different protein (MET-Rx Whey Protein) is about $20 cheaper. Is there any reason I shouldn't get the MET-Rx over the ON?

It’s usually easier to make them yourself than buy them at a store—that way you know what goes in them! F28, 6’5”, 215lbs, 107lbs lost TD.

Here’s what I use:
-24oz cold water

—1/2 scoop micellar casein powder, unflavored
(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002PYLOX6/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_i_wMD9Ab1QNAETY)

—1/2 scoop 100% whey protein isolate, choc.

If you want to kick it up a notch, add in:
—1 tsp Matcha Green Tea Powder, vanilla
—1 tbsp Bulletproof Brain Octane

All of these items can be purchased on Amazon, and since they’re in bulk, they last a good while. The brands in the links for the protein powders are cheaper per pound, and have less than 1g of sugar, as well as low-carb (0g for the casein and 2g for the whey).

Been drinking this mixture for 2 years now, and it’s still as good as it was then for helping me maintain by weight. If you decide to go with the add-ons too, it will add extra fat burning assistance and increased mental focus/clarity (and digestive regularity).

If you have any questions, let me know! Good luck.

u/frecklesonmynose · 2 pointsr/gainit

This is true. I talked with my coach about it, though, knowing that I needed to add in protein if I really wanted to see gains and he suggested the hydrolyzed whey isolate, as it is lactose reduced/lactose free. I buy this stuff and it doesn't bother my stomach at all. Most paleo people I know are only about 80% paleo so I am fine with 95%!

Thin Mints were once my downfall too! When I was in the market for some protein powder, someone recommended to me that the Chocolate Mint flavor from Optimum Nutrition tastes just like Thin Mints.

I've used it ever since -- it's like getting to drink a Thin Mint after a hard workout :D

At 235lbs, 16% bf, your lean mass is 197lbs. 197 * 0.68g = 134g protein. Or are you using a different calculation?

I just eat beans, nuts, seeds, fruits, and grains like oats/wheat/buckwheat throughout the day. Beans, nuts, seeds, and a lot of grains have a good amount of protein. I also add a scoop of protein powder a couple of times a day. I really like vegan protein optimizer. It's the cheapest I've found ($9/lb) and a good blend of just hemp, rice, and pea. You can save 5% with code "GOVEGAN" too. Orgain is pretty cheap and I hear it tastes good. NOW plant protein complex is fairly cheap, too.

u/OTTERSage · 2 pointsr/Fitness

If you're talking about this product right here, 23g protein at 130kcal is about 40 calories of other unnecessary calories. Not favorable for keeping calories in check and for quality.

https://www.amazon.com/MET-Rx-Natural-Whey-Chocolate-pound/dp/B0017HYOQG/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487224309&sr=1-1&keywords=met%2Brx%2Bwhey&th=1

Compared to what I'm referencing, which is also 130 calories, but 27g of protein, less expensive, and more servings. And also is even cheaper, marginally, at Costco.

Exactly. I just bought 2 pounds of ON Vanilla for $22 total (amazon link) and it's very tolerable. I buy frozen fruit from the grocery store and pack the blender with it, a rounded scoop of the protein, and 6oz of water. It's pretty easy to slam it down.

u/beltwaytr · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

Been struggling with this for years. Here is how I finally beat it.

First start small! The number 1 reason people fail at a diet or exercise plan is because they are trying to change things up too fast and they can't adjust accordingly. Think of it as going cold turkey as a smoker.

The easiest thing to work on is increasing the amount of exercise you are doing. Start working out everyday for 21 days straight so you wire your brain to do it on autopilot. Don't worry about time, reps, etc. Just work out. There are plenty of websites that can provide you with simple work out routines you can do at home that can get your body used to the change.

The next thing you will want to do is start curbing your eating habits. Note I said curbing, not stopping flat out. Start reducing the portions of junk food, breads, pastas, and sugars that you care currently consuming. Increase portions of meats, vegetables, and fruits so that your body can adjust to a proper diet. If you aren't going hard core you can leave the bread in but above all else lose the sugar. That means cakes, pies, soda, and flavored juices. Those must be replaced by water! Water does so much for weight loss it's incredible.

Doing this for about a month with mentally and physically wean you off of your current eating habits. After a while you'll start to lose interest in all the junk food and focus more on keeping your body in a good place. Also invest in a good Whey powder to cut down on downtime. If you've done the whole exercise thing before then I know you've worked out one day and I have been so sore you can't do it again. Getting a high quality protein powder helps muscle recovery and cuts down on soreness by a large margin. I got optimum nutrition gold standard powder off amazon last week.

It's been great so far. I picked up 2lbs just to test it out and see if it was worth it, but they do have smaller and larger sizes available. I got the vanilla ice cream flavor and it's great. I recommend mixing it with cold milk. Fantastic stuff. Also if you don't have any laying around the house pick up some 10 to 20 pound dumbbells or a resistance band. Hope this helps you, don't give up!

u/atetuna · 1 pointr/Fitness

I doubt your whey in bulk costs less where you are than where I am. Chicken could be cheaper though. I can get boneless/skinless chicken breasts for $1.66 a pound. Less if I'm more aggressive about looking for sales and using coupons.

Compare my chicken to the cheapest stuff on Amazon.
Chicken provides 57 grams of protein per dollar. The BF provides 46 grams of protein per dollar. I get 25% more protein by going with chicken.

Do you have a link to cheaper bulk protein that I can compare?

BF is incredibly cheap and has much less protein than they claim.

Could someone shill and post something like:

> I only use OverpricedProteinX from ShadyVendor.com

If the answer is "yes", then it would be against the rules of the sub.

If it's just the brand, it's probably OK.

> I like ON Gold Standard whey

or even

> I like NOW Food Whey. You can get it at Amazon.

is OK.

Items more directly related to AAS such as prohormones, cycle support, pct supplies will still be against the rules even if they're available through Amazon or another approved vendor.

u/1Operator · 1 pointr/Fitness

My 1st priority is ingredients - type & quality (too many additives and/or artificial stuff = no purchase for me).

Then I compare on price per gram of protein:
number of protein grams per serving
X (multiplied by)
total servings in the container
= total protein grams contained
&
price of container
÷ (divided by)
total protein grams contained
= price per protein gram

...For example:

Dymatize ISO 100 Gourmet Vanilla - 5 lbs. (hydrolyzed whey isolate)
25 protein grams per serving
X (multiplied by)
77 total servings in the container
= 1,925 total protein grams per container
&
$72.70 price of container (at this retailer, at the time of this writing)
÷ (divided by)
1,925 total protein grams
= $0.038 per gram of protein (approximately)

IsoFlex Vanilla - 2 lbs. (hydrolyzed whey isolate)
27 protein grams per serving
X (multiplied by)
30 total servings in the container
= 810 total protein grams per container
&
$44.99 price of container (at this retailer, at the time of this writing)
÷ (divided by)
810 total protein grams
= $0.055 per gram of protein (approximately)

...In this example (at these prices & quantities), the IsoFlex costs around 45% more than the Dymatize (and the Dymatize costs around 31% less than the IsoFlex) per gram of protein (not including any applicable taxes & shipping fees).

...And if you haven't already seen it, MusclePharm (among others) was recently targeted in a lawsuit for "selling products where the protein content falls far below what's on the label."

This is the protein shake I'm currently using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QZORGK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Seems like it has low enough carbs

u/throw162534 · 1 pointr/asktrp

I use Isopure Zero Carb. 2 shakes a day is 100g of protein and only 400 calories. Any other protein you have from eating should be enough to hit your requirements. Other than that just eat whatever gives you energy and try to stay low carb. Focus on lifting more than cardio.

u/BigTexan5606 · 1 pointr/keto

I do the Isopure zero carb thingy from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8ZJH2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

I eat 150 to 200 grams of protein a day, so these work for me. If you go over on your protein it won't be terrible, just don't go too far over the number. But, it has 50% magnesium and 20% potassium and I get the remaining potassium through food. Hope this helps!

u/Maldrantus · 1 pointr/crossfit

As someone who just started last week, I showed up with a water bottle and some shoes recommended for CrossFit. You don't want to wear regular running shoes because the heel will push you onto your toes when lifting.

You'll want to get some good protein powder as well. After reading a bit on this sub and online, I just purchased this brand. They have a lot of flavors, too.

I assume other CrossFit gyms are the same, but mine has me spend about a month learning proper techniques, form, and lifts before participating in the main classes. Since my gym is relatively small, this means I basically get one-on-one time with the gym owner for about an hour, which is super helpful.

u/MrSwarleyStinson · 1 pointr/1200isplenty

Taste-wise, my current strawberry protein is the best I've had so far

u/BornOnFeb2nd · 1 pointr/keto

I use this stuff(CreamyVanilla). 7.5lbs is the best value, and contains 55 servings (each serving = 2 scoops = 50g protein 210cal, and a whole mess of vitamins), but starting out you'd probably want to get 1lb (you might hate it). I've found it locally, but they tend to carry it in 3lb jugs only.

It also mixes really easily. None of this fighting to break the lumps up BS. Nope, you dump it in, spoon it around for a few seconds, and you're done.

I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but the first time I mixed it, I drank it immediately, and it was....not good. Was like drinking cloudy salt water. However, now I mix up the shake first, set it aside, scramble up some eggs, eat the eggs, THEN (after ~20 minutes have elapsed?) drink the shake. Haven't had that reaction since.

u/GayBroTie · 1 pointr/gaybrosgonemild

A bit of both. I never read their diet guide or bought their recovery formula: I had 2 pounds of protein powder my French teacher from high school gave me years before that I decided to use, and eventually buy as it's cheap and super good (as you can clearly see from the results) Link

I didn't have much choice as to what to eat here at college, so I chose to daily eat whatever the healthiest thing Sodexo had to offer was (which was usually salad, veggie burgers, or turkey burgers). I cut out extra meals slowly "Do I really need that bowl of soup between choirs? No.", I started eating bigger breakfasts, and semi-calorie count (I try and do about 600 Calories a meal with 200 left over for excess or healthy snacks.

I also try to snack regularly so my body doesn't go into a hunger because that's just as bad as being stuffed.

No though, I never followed their diet. Definitely never drank soda or coffee. I stopped eating as much breads and sweets. It worked out.

It has been about two months. Here is my routine, goals, and my plan. Looking for advice / other paths.

25/M/5'11''.

What I Started with

I started out at 207 pounds around July 1st. Decided I needed a change. Drastically changed my diet and started going to the gym 3-5 times a week. Working on a calorie deficit cutting weight. I would say around 1300- 1600 cals a day. I had a rolling two day routine.

Day 1

Chest / Triceps

Bench 3x10 Standing cable chest flies 3x10 Tricep 2h pull downs 3x10 Incline Bench 3x8 (Never did this before) or Hammer Strength Incline 3x10 Decline Bench 3x8 (Never did this before) Dips 3x10

Day 2

Back / Biceps

Shoulder press / shoulder dumbbell press 3x10 Lat pull down behind the head 3x10 Pull down bar in front 3x10 Curl bar or single isolated dumbbell curl per arm 3x10 Row Machine 3x10 Dumbbell back flies 3x10 Cable 2h bicep curls 3x10

I would throw some crunches and random ab work in there on random days. Also ran a mile or so randomly. Did this for about 5 weeks, dropped from 207 pounds down to around 188.

What I am doing now

About three weeks ago I changed my routine up. I started going to the gym more, about 5-6 times a week now with a different routine. I added legs and am now on a three day rolling list and added an ab routine to everyday. Diet has stayed the same, calorie deficit probably around 1400-1600 cals a day.

Day 1

Chest / Biceps

Run 1 to 2 miles. Bench or Dumbbell Bench 3x10 Standing cable chest flies 3x10 Incline Bench or Incline Dumbbell Bench 3x10
Hammer Strength Incline 3x10 Decline Bench or Decline Dumbbell Bench 3x10 Curl bar or single isolated dumbbell curl per arm 3x10 Cable 2h bicep curls 3x10 My ab routine (crunches, leg raises, plank, superman, reverse crunch with a leg raise extension, toe touch while laying on my back)

Day 2

Back / Triceps

Run 1-2 miles Lat pull down behind the head 3x10 Pull down bar in front 3x10 Dips 3x10 Tricep 2h pull downs 3x10 Row Machine 3x10 Dumbbell back flies 3x10 My ab routine (crunches, leg raises, plank, superman, reverse crunch with a leg raise extension, toe touch while laying on my back)

Day 3

Legs / Shoulders

Run 1 mile Squats 3x10 Leg extension 3x10 Leg curl 3x10 Shoulder press / shoulder dumbbell press 3x10 Dumbbell Shoulder Raises 3x10 Shoulder fly machine 3x10 Hammer strength shoulder press 3x10 Dead lift 3x8 (JUST started this week on this). My ab routine (crunches, leg raises, plank, superman, reverse crunch with a leg raise extension, toe touch while laying on my back)

After about 3-4ish weeks of this, I am down to 183 pounds. I am seeing little gain in some of my workouts, with more gain in others. Not where I want to be.

My overall goals / long time goals are: To lose weight, get bigger (like upper body muscles) and get stronger. Want to work towards a 6 pack and bigger muscles. Pretty much I want to look real good, and be stronger.

I have many questions and am not sure where I am going to take this for my goals. Any advice on what I should do?

I am thinking about cutting out the running and changing my routine up to kind of be like SS. Lower reps and adding weight with more rest in between. Once I kind of plateau I was thinking about moving to the PHAT routine.

Should I stop doing abs on the same workdays that I lift?

Would gearing my previous workout towards a SS kind of routine be a good idea before going into PHAT for my current goals?

Also I will be getting some protein, creatine, and a carb loader here in the next couple days. My plan is to have a protein shake in the morning, a little bit of the carb loader before the workout, and creatine post workout. Once I am happy with my weight loss I was going to up the carb loader and take some post workout also. Thoughts? This is what I have coming:

You are just starting, don't try to run faster. Try to run at a comfortable pace during a longer period of time (more than an hour). Also, instead of a protein bar it is better whey powder. It has less calories, and the proteins and carbs you need.

Musclepharm combat protein powder was always my go to, followed by Optimum Nutrition.

I'm lactose intolerant now, so I can't drink whey - so my go to now is Dymatize ISO-100. Little more expensive, but good tasting protein and it's hydrolysed. However - haven't worked out in about a year and my tub has just been sitting in my pantry, wasting away.

u/GhostOfTheNet · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Shitty milk? Skip the milk. Just drink water.

For protein, look into this, MET-Rx Natural Whey. I like it because it is very pure. I highly recommend it, but check it yourself. Add the MET-Rx Amino 3000 to get total to about $55 with auto $15 off, so about $40-something total.

Just to make sure, are you all talking about this product...? the tasteless is only 29, how long does one last you? And is it awful in taste?

u/motfok · 1 pointr/Fitness

Yeah, its still a pretty good deal. 3.5 pounds of primo protein for 11 bucks?

The same amount of the same protein is 56 dollars on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Platinum-Velocity-Vanilla/dp/B002QZORGK/ref=pd_sim_hpc_6

Make sure you're getting at least 1 gram of Protein per pound of lean body weight of yours - or aim for 1 gram of Protein per pound of lean body weight of your goal.
For example, I was aiming for 160 lbs at 10% body fat, so 160 * (1.00-0.10) = 144. I aimed for 144 grams of protein a day.

During the workout I only drank water, and after the workout I drank a protein drink that was around 480 Calories (36g fat, 29g protein, 7 net carbs).

I made my shake with:

  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Natural Peanut Butter
  • 1 Scoop ON Whey Protein
  • 0.5-1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 2 Tbsp Heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Stevia sweetener

I normally did 3 meals that were around 300-500 Cal each (normally closer to 300) and had snacks like Almonds or String Cheese between my meals. I only had the protein shakes on workout days - I did not have them on Recovery or Rest days.

I have some progress pics, but I don't think my resting physique changed much. If I flex my abs, I can see some nice definition in abs - I was never able to see them before. My friends say they think I look a bit more bulky/built now.

The only advice I have is to keep pushing through the workout (unless you feel injured or REALLY strained). Most of them are 3 sets per circuit - take the first set fairly easy to get the form. Second set to go at it, and Third set really push it - take it one rep at a time.

consider dropping nalt and using l-tyrosine as nalt may only have 30% or so efficacy as l-tyrosine and l-tyrosine has more data (but probably wont do much in any case)

consider now foods whey protein isolate, 5lb jar, chocolate. it is CFM microfiltered with the immunoglobulins intact. do not get the now foods whey protein blend.....may SURE it is the whey protein isolate

http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Protein-Isolate-Chocolate-5-Pound/dp/B0013OXOKU/

if u take alot of it, consider 10lb bag

http://www.nowfoods.com/Whey-Protein-Isolate-Natural-Dutch-Chocolate-10-Lbs.htm

i think the 10lb bag can be picked up for like $100 delivered

but seal that bag good.

Amazon Sample Boxes! $8 and you get an $8 credit to use towards an eligible purchase. There's usually at least one fitness one, currently they have a Glambia box with a lot of Optimum Nutrition products to redeem it for. I got a Mr. Olympia one and redeemed for a bunch of Vega samples.

You can get grass fed whey for relatively cheap, its minimally processed, uses monkfruit, and comes in decent tasting flavors.

Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Levels-Chocolate-Grass-Protein-Undenatured/dp/B01JNUHA5A/ref=sr_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1520897961&sr=8-5&keywords=grass+fed+chocolate+whey

Cashew milk is pretty good priced sometimes. It can be like 2.99 for half gallon or 4.99 depending on a sale. Mackrel and sardines have a lot of protein, calcium, and other nutrients. It's not just for omega 3.

And cashew milk lasts for like 2 weeks opened and like 4-6 months unopened. I think.

u/fernly · 1 pointr/soylent

Search Amazon for "plant protein", you will find a number of products that combine brown rice, pea, hemp, quinoa and sometimes chia seeds. In a quick search only this one seems to list the amino acid breakdown on the label.

u/Battleofthebogs · -2 pointsr/nutrition

Soy milk has pythoestrogens. Also, that's quite a bit of sugar you're ingesting. Buy a grass fed 5 lbs drink from Amazon and it will last you the whole month.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JNUHA5A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

If you're small you don't need that much protein, but protein is incredibly important and this gives you that. Along with a good multivitamin and an omega 3,6,9 pill, you'll be okay for a month or so. Though...fiber, and antioxidants are hard to get in liquid form so, maybe add a drinkable fiber supplement to it and some fresh orange juice? Maybe add some frozen fruit to the whey protein drink?
