Do you have a model number?

Edit1: here is a nice square digital one

u/conchata · 9 pointsr/Watches

You'll find that it's quite common.

And those six are mostly off the top of my head. So many brands have their own version.

u/susuhead · 9 pointsr/Watches

Is this going to be a dressy watch for formal/special occasions? Or are you looking for a daily wear watch?

If the former latter, then perhaps a hard-wearing quartz is a good idea. If you want something special, but that you'll have to take care of, then your budget could easily allow you a dressier mechanical watch (auto or hand wound).

In fact, fuck it, here's a list of shit I dug up. I love internet-window-shopping:

Young-looking Seiko automatic diver

Hamilton Khaki

Another (larger) Hamilton Khaki

Khaki Pilot (very diver/aviator-esque look)

A Tissot auto chrono

A fairly dressy Hamilton

A nice and clean sporty Tissot

A rather large but eye-catching Hamilton

Yes, I know I went kinda overboard on the Hamiltons, but I was working off the impression your watch example and fondness for divers gave me.

EDIT: got my former/latter mixed up. I blame Mr. Walker's magnificent amber restorative.

Check out Casio Pathfinder watches.

I've had one for 6 years now (as of next Tuesday, checked my Amazon order history), it charges from the face with solar, updates from the atomic clock, give me sunrise and sunset times, digital compass (works great), barometric altimeter (works OK), thermometer (doesn't work for shit while you wear it, shows body temp, but great when I take it off and hang it outside my hammock while I sleep), backlight, alarms, waterproof enough that I've worn it SCUBA diving 100ft+ deep in salt water. Never had a battery to change, rugged as hell (broken three straps now, but while some of the exterior markings on the watch are worn, everything still works great), and I've never had to correct the time.

THIS is my specific model, but they have others with slightly different features.

u/biffnix · 5 pointsr/Referees

The Casio RFT-100 was developed for the 2006 World Cup, and is a solid referee watch. Pre-programmed halves, tilt-night glow, vibration-only operation (selectable), made for soccer. The only downside is that over time, the spring bar that holds the band to the watch can pull through the plastic. I've broken one with a ball to the wrist, and the band pulled the spring bar loose. Because it's plastic, it scores the watch, and the spring bar will pull easily from then on, and can't be repaired.

I've been using a 1st-generation Spintso referee timer and it's quite good as well. While there are no pre-programmed times, it's built for one-touch operation. Once the times for the halves are programmed, all other operations are one-touch. For example, once you set the halves for 45-minutes, and, for example, select 10 minutes for the halftime break, you just use one button to start/stop for anything after that.

The workflow for the Spintso is like this:

  • Set duration of halves
  • Set duration of halftime break
  • Long-press start/stop button to start match. Begins counting down from 45mins to zero on one timer, and match counter begins counting up from zero.
  • Long-press for any stoppage (injury, time-wasting, etc.) Watch automatically begins counting stoppage time. The stoppage time indicator begins climbing up from zero. Watch vibrates every five seconds when stoppage time is enabled to remind you that match time is stopped.
  • Long-press start/stop button again to end stoppage time and resume match. Stoppage timer stops, and match timers resume (1st period timer decrements toward zero, match timer increments from zero upward)
  • When the half expires, the watch vibrates. The stoppage counter shows you how much time to add. The match time automatically adds the stoppage time, and vibrates to let you know that the half, plus stoppage has expired, and begins the halftime period timer.
  • When the half-time timer expires, the watch vibrates to remind you to start the second half. It waits for you to start the second half - you don't have to start right when the halftime timer expires. Just long-press the start/stop button to begin the second half.
  • Just as in the 1st half, long-press the start/stop button anytime you need to add stoppage time (injury, time wasting, etc), and the stoppage time increments, the match half timer stops, and the full match timer keeps incrementing. The watch will vibrate every few seconds to remind you that you are in stoppage time mode. Long-press the start/stop button to resume match.
  • When the halftime timer decrements to zero, the stoppage timer begins displays how much time to add. The match timer increments to the half duration plus stoppage, and vibrates when that time expires. End the match.

The cool part is that it's all one-button operation once you've set the halves and halftime duration. Takes some getting used to, but it's very easy once you've done it a few times. It has three modes - the regular watch mode, which displays the day of week, year, month/day, time (with Daylight Savings mode with one press to switch modes) (hours/minutes/seconds). The second mode is game mode, which displays Time Zone (you can select any time zone in the world), hh:mm:sec, month/day at the top, am/pm, which period you're in (1st or 2nd), minutes remaining in half, then the bottom displays total match time (incrementing from zero), stoppage time.

When you enter halftime period, the halftime timer appears, and decrements from whatever duration you've set.

The last mode is stopwatch mode. It just starts/stops a timer from zero.

    Hope that helps!

Cool! We wear the same watch! Casio AE1000W-1B. I fly in the military and it's been great on deployments! I love having all the world time zones and saving four zones to instantly switch between (UTC, local time deployed, local time back home, and usually Hawaii or UTC+3 for Middle East). The strap is not really that great and it's a cheaply built watch overall, but for $12 you get a lot that other watches don't have. World time zones, stop watch and timer down to the hundredth of seconds and 5 alarm settings. I've never had the watch itself break or die, but when the strap broke I just bought another for $10 on Amazon at the time.

Try here.

You can generally change the band on a watch btw.

u/Zimek · 3 pointsr/Referees

your choices, basically:
-any old cheap timex with any kind of timer function will suffice, and last for a good long while.
-a nice watch made for reffing, often with vibrate features. Spintso watch or this one is what i use, personally. Spintso is expensive, but I've heard you can often find last year's model for a decent price if you know where to look.
-a smartwatch. Something that can pair to your smartphone, or a fitness-centric model like something from garmin or polar. these typically offer less soccer-specific settings, but allow you to track steps, heartrate, and all sorts of things like that.

u/lulu_l · 3 pointsr/EDC

If you want different design check the DW9052 or the DW6900

If you want something a little cooler looking the GA100 is abiut 50% more than the ones already mentioned..

Link, for those asking!

u/kurazaybo · 3 pointsr/Watches

I don't own that model in particular but I am familiar with vintage japanese watches and I think the polygonal bezel gives it a subtle yet distinctive touch.

I am somehow reminded of this other Citizen. It does feature a scratch resistant sapphire crystal but I am not sure the style and band match your taste.

I'd say the shape of the bezel has hardly affected how a watch feels or works for me, even when they are square.

For a young man with your requirements I would go for a more peculiar style, like this (I am not sure how you are supposed to read the chrono, but it sure looks fashionable). Somebody recently posted here the all silver version of this model and it was really good looking and versatile for dressing up or down (I did not find that version on amazon, sorry).

A variation that adds some interest to the face can be a different style of calendar and I think the leather strap looks better with a suit and may be more comfortable. Keep in mind you can choose from several color schemes.

If I was young and my sight was what it once was, I would probably go for one of the all black styles like this or maybe this for an everyday watch, but the canvas strap and more busy dial won't work with a suit.

Eco Drives are great watches at very good prices, hard to go wrong with one of them.

u/soowanbag · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

You can call it theft, copy, or replica. I'll call it an homage.

If you're referring to how similar the hour hand looks to a Rolex Submariner, I can tell you that many watch makers make diver's watches with similar hour hands:

u/ordash · 2 pointsr/Watches

Then take the black version of Seikos "Sea Urchin" . Best Submariner-on-a-budget that has enough of its own character to not just look like a rip-off.

u/pnothing · 2 pointsr/Watches

Up front: I'm not a watch expert like many here... by here are my thoughts anyway.

I like it. Ive never owned a Bulova as well but I've thought about it.
This one does look a big thick though (personally I have a small wrist so I take that into consideration).
Considering what you are looking for I would also consider this Tissot: http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-T0394171105700-Black-Chronograph-Watch/dp/B002IVGKJY/ref=sr_1_12?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1348266013&sr=1-12&keywords=tissot
Its about twice as expensive, but its a great watch. I bought one 3 years ago and I've had a good run with it.

u/confused_critic · 2 pointsr/Referees

Casio RFT-100
I got this watch for my birthday last season and I would highly recommend it.
It's the smallest and lightest watch I've ever worn yet the numbers are large and easily readable with a quick glance.
It's got many different options, all of which are simple to use. The preset halves are especially useful.
It's a bit more expensive than most digital watches but trust me, you won't regret buying it. Although I'm not sure if they make them anymore so get in quick!

I want some new watches but I need to sell a few to be able to justify it to myself. I'll pay the shipping cost to COSU and the paypal fees with reasonable offers.

First up is the ever popular Orient Blue Ray EM6500CD. 41mm case automatic with a 22mm lug width, perfect for all those Natos you all love so much. Comes on the original strap with the original box, papers, and hanger tag. There is a mark on the crystal between the 10 and the 11. Looking for $125.

It's a 3 sensor watch styled after the suunto but not a direct copy. The altimeter isn't accurate and I have had to recalibrate it several times in the 6 months I've had it, the compass is off a bit, and the thermometer isn't accurate unless you take off the watch and let it acclimate away from your body. That having been said, it's a 3 sensor watch for 50 bucks and it works fairly well.

Skip the armanis. they are cheap "designer" watches. basicly they make the case and drop a citizen movement inside (if you´re lucky. you could find a cheap generic chinese movement inside)

the Victorinox is nice becuase it carries a ETA movement.

you can also have a citizen eco drive one which are pretty reliable and solar powered. Citizen movements are a dime a dozen and half the non swiss made industry uses them, but if you buy citizen directly insted of a 3rd party that using citizen movements, you usualy get a better movement at a lower price.

Or if you want swiss you can have a nice tissot V8 for cheap.

u/tomchuk · 2 pointsr/Watches

Work Watch: Any multi-sensor (Pathfinder, Suunto Core, etc.) watch is going to be way to big on you (~50mm). Even most G-shocks are probably a little on the big side. A step down as far as size (but a step up in finish and functionality) are the Tissot T-touch watches: time, date, chrono, altimeter, compass, barometer in a 43mm titanium package. They do have short lugs which would make it more manageable on your small wrists than other 43mm watches. After that, there may be a few Citizen Eco Drives that suit you, but you're not going to get much more than time/date/chrono.

Dress watch: Just get something manual wind, without a date complication, and setting it won't be a hassle when you choose to wear it. I love putting on my manual-wind watches sans date - there's just something about putting on a nice watch, winding and setting it that makes you appreciate the whole experience and appreciate the watch more. Get a Stowa Antea, you won't regret it.

u/Xubh · 2 pointsr/Watches

The titanium should be the same - but I was looking at the two watches on Amazon and the shade looked a bit off. I did a visual tab change comparison (not the most accurate comparison, I know) and noticed the difference in the shade.

SBDC029

SBDC007

I also noticed that there is a difference in the gloss of the black bezel - Is there an actual difference when you see it in hand? or is this just the Amazon lighting during the shoot?

Also the price - Why the price so different? Is it the finishing of the watch? is it the feel in the hand? why is there such a huge disparity in price between the two?

u/southern_bhenchode · 2 pointsr/Watches

These are quartz watches. How about a DW-9052 G-Shock, GR-8900, or even the classic DW-5600.

u/notcalpernia · 2 pointsr/Watches

Lots of brands do it. Orient Submariner homages are revered in this sub, but Invictas are somehow a knock off. I can't tell the difference between them.

u/ledit0ut · 2 pointsr/Watches

Any $40-$50 g-shock is pretty durable. I had this when I was in the marines. Even though it's not exactly pretty I like this one because you can take it off and lay it flat on the floor for workouts when doing timed planks and such. Looks wise I would go with the classic squares.

I wear a Casio Pathfinder PAW2000 on a daily basis. Aside from the obvious time/date/alarm functions, it has a built-in compass, barometer, altimeter, is waterproof to 100m, is atomic (auto-syncs time based on region in the world), is solar powered (never need to replace/recharge battery), and has a stopwatch/countdown timer at the touch of a button. I've used all of those functions numerous times in just the past month.

A cellphone is not solar powered, does not have barometric sensors, isn't waterproof, isn't atomic, and takes too long to open/use the stopwatch/countdown functions. Cellphones are great multifunction devices, but are clunky to use in certain situations. I can glance at my watch every 2 seconds, even with both my hands occupied. A good watch is indispensable.

Too soon to say for sure. I love how it looks, which if I'm being honest is usually the driving force for anything I buy.

At the right angle I can see the digits perfectly. But they're still pretty small. Granted I'm coming off wearing a Suunto D4i and a Timex Expedition Grid Shock watch which both have huge digits and faces/dials.

About the Timex... I really loved that watch, but when it broke it was completely unfixable. The slots on the body of the watch that held the band pins basically dry rotted out and broke. I wasn't going to drop another $60-ish on a watch that was going to break again in 2 years. I went with a G-Shock because they have a reputation of lasting forever.

The glass it like a flippin mirror though.

I haven't dug into the atomic feature to sync it with whatever antenna is within range of my location. When I set the time I just picked the first city that show my local time.

I don't hate it but I don't 100% love it. I'm actually look at other watches already, but I'll probably talk myself off the ledge before I actually commit to another buy.

Here's what I decided on based on the features of the watches these guys picked. I would've gotten one of the ones they did, but this one has a vibration alarm function, which a couple of soldiers in the review section thought was great. It's pretty big, but the rectangular shape should make it look a little smaller than the usual wrist-mounted tactical wall clock.

u/trueguardian · 1 pointr/Watches

Bulova is a pretty well loved American brand (like Hamilton) known for innovation. They are now owned by Citizen so I would put their movements on par with something by Orient (who is owned by Seiko). Correct me if I'm wrong here /r/watches. Note that that particular piece, though nice, is even larger than the Hamilton that you posted. You can't really go wrong at that price point though!

I reckon the Hamilton has the highest quality movement out of the ones we've discussed in this thread, but at the end of the day it's worth going for the one that you like the looks of the most, because you're the one that is going to be looking at it 90% of the time!

Edit Just as an afterthought, have you considered something from the Hamilton Khaki family of watches? I pined after a Khaki field for the longest time but then found the 2013 Maratac Mid Pilot and was swayed by that.

Edit2
It's kinda heresy on this sub but at your price range, have you considered getting something with a quartz movement? That opens up the world to a lot of design choices! My daily wear is a Tissot V8 which is quartz powered, and it is super accurate and low-maintenance.

u/spedmonkey · 1 pointr/Watches

Also, there's no such thing as a completely waterproof watch. There's watches that are water resistant down to absurd depths, like the Rolex Deepsea, but even that is not wholly waterproof. The Orient Mako might be a good choice; there's 50% off codes all over the internet for that website. You also couldn't really go wrong with another Timex. Either way, you're almost certainly looking for a diver watch. That link should be a good start.

edit: and if you don't mind spending a little bit more money, you could look into the famed Seiko Black/Orange Monster. I don't find them all that appealing myself, but there's tons of people out there who swear by them.

edit #2: I'm ashamed that I forgot all about the Vostok Amphibia. Those fuckers are indestructible, and way more unique than anything else you'd find on Amazon.

The new one is the exact same watch except it's been rebranded under the [PROSPEX] ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015ZBZFK8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jozPAbEE00JQS) line.

I saw two Orients that fit your description. The Championship and Disk. They're relatively inexpensive, so you can save your folks some cash (or spend the remainder on another watch).

I also searched Amazon for a black metal band + automatic movement. Here's a few results: Seiko Men's SKZ329, Orient EM65007B Men's Ray Raven, Seiko Men's SNZJ67, Android AD563BKK Armor 50.
