Popularity of face masks started with 3rd base and pitchers and slowly grew around the infield. Been catching on for the last 10-15 years or so. I have a pitcher's mask for slow pitch softball which is basically a skateboard helmet with an old school catcher's mask screwed to the front.

Worth Legit Slowpitch Softball Pitcher's Mask, Black https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B012TEXB7I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_J8C5CbC1EH9RV

Worth every penny the first time you take a 100+mph line drive off the face from a over zealous gym rat trying to relive his glory days from high school ball in beer league softball using a modified bat.

Worth every penny. You can search around and might be able to find them cheaper elsewhere.

If your pitcher wants the least obtrusive mask possible (it sounds like they do), then I'd recommend something like THIS

If safety is the number one concern, I'd recommend something bulkier. I personally have the Easton Mako 2

Full mask helmets are definitely heavier, and cut off some of your field of view, but they protect you from side/rear impact.

They make sliders. That might be the best option.

I have compression braces for ankles, knees and elbows, all of which I bought with approval from my therapists (OT and PT) from Amazon (link, link, link) They help me feel more stable without limiting my RoM too much. I also have hard braces for wrists that OT made for me, I'm hoping after my tendinosis heals a little that I can switch to something softer like a compression glove or something.

I'm in my late 30s, and attempting to learn aggressive. Right now, I'm just getting used to ramps and bowl carving, still not grinding stuff yet.

Always wear a helmet (this is what I use). Knee and wrist guards are also pretty much mandatory. Elbow pads aren't as mandatory, but they can help. But hip/butt pads are really handy. I use these crash pads. They've saved my tailbone a few times. I like these knee pads a lot, they're quite durable. Others like knee/shin guard combos for aggressive skating. /u/lawpower runs the Back to Blading channel, I think he's using these G-Form pads - they're quite a bit pricier than most, but no one like slamming their shin into a ledge after missing a grind.

Wearing pads is just half of the equation. Knowing how to fall properly is arguably just as important.

I would highly recommend watching SkaMiDan's youtube channel. He's got a ton of tutorials, including aggressive tutorials, and focuses on teaching skills and techniques to help you overcome fear and apprehension. Shaun at Shop Task is in the middle of making a series on park skating. Acosta Blades is another good channel for learning aggressive.

Get used to getting to skate parks early, especially in the summer time. It's not just the heat, the park near where I'm at is a zoo after 11am. Almost wish summer was over already and those kids were back in school... almost...

Maybe you'd be more confident wearing a fielder's mask? Does anyone on your team wear one?

You should look for something like this. They're pretty easy to find online and I think k other brands have something similar.

Been using these since I started

The reviews say that the compression shorts are shoddy, but I've been wearing them for 2 years and change with no issues.

I wear a rip-it as well. Definitely the go to pick if you're looking for a sleek, less-cumbersome mask. Basically just protects the front of your face and not the top or sides of your head. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00345HHJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_S0.UAbGQVTG08

Text from the other post:

Hello everyone, first time posting here. I do HEMA and recently came into possession of a great helm, specifically this one:

As you can see from the second image, the chin strap and inside padding has all been removed.

I want to upgrade the inside of this helmet to be wearable again, and if possible make it comfortable to wear while sparring. Right now my thought was to buy some MICH helmet pads and an MICH helmet chin strap, pad the inside of the helmet and attach the chinstrap inside. Anyone done something similar to this? Any pointers or suggestions?

EDIT:
Right now I'm looking at:

I recommend checking these out!

Being a goalie has destroyed my knees. I can't imagine how bad they would be if I was a catcher. My buddy is a catcher and he uses these to ease the stress on his knees. Apparently they work wonders
