Yea, it’s a monorail crane that would have a trolley
on it with a load rated loop and you could attach a chain fall come along
to that to lift and move whatever you needed.

Put some hooks on one of these. You can put it into the cupboard horizontally, as close to the corners as possible, so it pushes on studs (if it is a stud wall/drywall). If it is a brick wall, then no issues at all.

These can also be used vertically, but you need longer versions obviously.

Ikea had a similar system with hooks, but it has been discontinued. It was discussed in another thread

Sure, according to my Amazon history it's a Gladiator GAWB04HWEG Adjustable Height Hardwood Workbench, 4' the vise is whatever brand they sell at Lowe's and the light is a Brightech LightView PRO LED.

They do make synthetic rope which has a few strands of conductive material through them. They are a lower cost alternative to aluminum wire for things like electric fences. So these may be for lightning protection.

All WorkMates are NOT equal. You want a WM425 or better if you're going to try to do any serious woodworking. It's far more substantial and stable than the lesser models.

amazon link for the WM425

Or the WM1000

Or best of all, find a GOOD one on craigslist from the 70's back when they were built like monsters.

A good alternative is the Gladiator workbench:

I have a 6' and 4' -- they're incredible

So we got one of these and some of these and it pretty much solved our storage crisis.

It depends what kind of space and budget you have but these were great for us, specifically the bin-box cabinet. We just labelled and put everything in it's own bin. We also put cables on the doors, each in their own tiny bin, so we have 2x5 rows of display port, 2x5 rows of vga, etc.

winch is a cool idea..not sure if the stop and start will be instantaneous or will it just pull into the ceiling too tight...that is my only concern.....

I've found

Which should work well.

Was hoping to play around a bit with a RasberryPI and make it work by voice and iPad/Web so that is what I was looking at motors.

Get one of these to move the panels with, cheap and made it so much easier.

Could start off by getting one of the cheaper Sjoberg workbenchs. There is a $354 shipped bench that is MDF laminate or a Birch version for $429.

Of course you can always make your own, but Sjorbergs is top quality, those prices include shipping, and you can set it up our of the box when it gets there, since you have limited tools and space to do anything at the moment.

Once you get a workbench set up, you'll probably want to lay something down in your work area on the floor. If you have some sort of hard surface, you're going to want to protect it from anything you might drop and if it's carpeted, you'll want a nice hard solid surface to work on. Maybe get some of those piece together puzzle type gym mats (don't know the real names for them).

If you stick with hand tools (chisels, hand planes, hand saws) you can really minimize the saw dust that will be floating around everywhere. For clean up, you can pick up a small five gallon shopvac from any big box store or even walmart for around $30.

I wouldn't call that "safely". At least, not with any come-along that I've ever seen. Have your hand slip on the main handle while the safety latch is disengaged and you're going to have a very bad day.

Agree with /u/bobeboph, a chain hoist with a level handle is the way to go here. Something like this

How about a "Right Tool, Wrong Job" theme? Pick a tool, such as this super duper handy Rubber Bench Block (from my Metal Working Tools wishlist) and come up with a very unusual use for it.

For example, even though it's designed to protect your metal piece and work surface from being marred when hammering, you could instead use it as a heavy duty shin guard for the edge of the coffee table that I keep running into even though it's been in the same damn place forever.

I've been wanting to get this:

Apologies for the links, on mobile. I'm currently overhauling my entire gun room and used three of these in a row along one wall:

Stack-On WB-382 Steel Reloading Bench https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004EYTD56/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_MVb5wbTSY7XWW

I'm mounting a lot of this stuff over and around it as well:

Wall Control 30-P-3232BU Blue Metal Pegboard Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001J7OR5M/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_GYb5wb2CHQXRP

The benches are lag bolted directly in studs, which as others have noted is a must. Given how narrow these are it's especially true. The one thing I'm going to change is to surface it in some kind of laminate to preserve the MDF, which chips and flakes really easily.

I almost bought that kit, heard great things. Ended up with a great deal on this https://www.amazon.com/BenchPro-Roosevelt-Heavy-Garage-Butcher/dp/B0041HH2D6?th=1 i got it on Jet for around $130 with a coupon.
