This has been mentioned somewhere on beyondthebump before, but invest in a Contigo travel mug! It keeps your coffee hot for (no joke) 6-8 hours. Plus, the lid locks so you can't spill it on your LO and you can throw it in your diaper bag or even tip it upside down and it wont leak.

I swear on my life I will never buy another coffee mug in my life. Here's a link on Amazon. Only $15!

u/drivenlegend · 9 pointsr/Coffee

The Zojirushi has been bulletproof for me over the years. I have the metallic dark brown color. It locks securely and the 12oz is perfect for me. You can get bigger ones of course. Mine has been dropped, dropped, and dropped some more and still works great.

u/muzeofmobo · 9 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

What you need is this plus this. (Car-powered water heater and a French Press coffee mug.)

Carry a 5 gallon jug of water and a can of ground coffee around with you and you'd never be without morning coffee again.

u/psycoologist · 9 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Seconding the contingo! I have this contingo thermos and it's amazing! I've had it over 2 years now and it hasn't ever leaked, the auto seal is great, it holds a good amount of drink and doesn't condense or appear wet!

I didn't know I needed this. I need this.

The best two, in my experience, which you have to seriously abuse to break :

  • Contigo (Also available in a two pack at Costco for a better price, I may have also seen them a London Drugs.)

  • Zojirushi (Also available at T&T for around the same price.)

    .

I love my Zojirushi most of all. Put boiling water in it, burn yourself 3 hours later when you open it. It's insanity.

I prefer these Zojirushis to Hydro Flask:

Well, to be fair, it sounds like the basis for the complaints ultimately traces back to the fact that DrinkTanks is suing Growlerworks/uKeg for patent infringement, over a patent that probably shouldn't have been granted in the first place.

Of course, anybody sued for patent infringement is going to argue that the patent being enforced is invalid, but I think they've got a case here. Basically, if you can point to any container invented prior to a couple years ago that meets either the following sets of limitations, the patent (as issued) is invalid:

> A beverage storage system comprising:
> a container body comprising a vacuum sealed metal vessel having a rim which has a non-planar surface;
> a lid having a threaded portion and a gas inlet valve; and
> an annular elastomeric seal interposed between a bottom surface of the lid and the rim and configured to seal against the non-planar surface of the rim.

or

> A beverage storage system comprising:
> a container body comprising a vacuum sealed metal vessel having a rim which has a non-planar surface;
> a lid having a gas inlet valve; and
> an annular elastomeric seal disposed in an annular channel in the bottom surface of the lid and configured to seal against the non-planar surface of the rim;
> wherein the container body includes a generally cylindrical neck region and the channel includes a sidewall configured to abut an outer surface of the neck region.

So basically, they've managed to patent any metal vacuum-insulated beverage container that has a lid (with a threaded portion anywhere on it) that creates a watertight seal against a curved rim using an elastomeric gasket, where the lid has a gas inlet valve. Here's an example of such a container (depending on how you define "gas inlet valve.") I bet you could find a soda siphon that fits the bill, too.

Keeping your pack light is what's going to be the issue. Here's a few items that I've starting hiking / camping with since kicking off keto:

  1. Precooked bacon - The link points to one as an example. Try to find a package that contains several smaller individual packages because once the plastic is opened you'll want to eat it that day. It's not as good as fresh out of the skillet at home, but 15 miles of trail tends to be a pretty good seasoning for me.

  2. Eggs - Eggs aren't likely to go bad in 3-4 days, even at 30+ degrees. I wouldn't leave them in the sun or anything, but I keeping them covered while at camp and in the center of your pack while moving and you should be fine. If you're really nervous you can look into ways to recreate an artificial "bloom" to protect the egg from bacteria and/or make a sleeve out of Reflectix for your RIGID egg container.

  3. Precooked Chicken - It's not certainly not fresh-off-the-grill chicken, but it's 50 grams of protein. I usually either add this to boiling water with veggies (mushrooms, carrots, onions, and garlic) or throw it on top of anything green and leafy that I bring with me.

  4. Cheese - Other folks have said it as well but cheese is freaking awesome. Get something hard that will last longer like a Jack or Cheddar. There is a ton of protein and fat in cheese and it can be eaten alone or added to everything else you're bringing. It's a force multiplier.

  5. Olive Oil - I usually bring a silicone bottle of Olive oil with me. This is like the cheese in that you can add it to almost everything and you're getting about 15 grams of fat (120 calories) per tablespoon. Use this to saute your veggies, or as a salad dressing on some greens.

  6. Fresh Veggies - Heavy compared to rice / pasta dishes but way more versatile. You can make a soup, or saute them and make a messy camp omelet. Hell just chop them up, use some olive oil, and put them in a foil packet for the fire. Easy and delicious.

  7. Protein Powder / Heavy Whipping Cream - Something that I've been doing is using protein powder and a thermos of Heavy Whipping Cream to supplement any food I bring. Both are fairly calorie dense. Even if you don't want to do the protein powder, just making a cup of coffee / tea with a 1/8 - 1/4 cup of HWC can give you a ton of calories to start your day with. Using Keto Chow and a reliable water source I can survive fairly well on less than 400 grams of 'food' a day.
u/themonkrat · 5 pointsr/BuyItForLife

The Corningware one is a piece of crap. It's meant for soup and even then doesn't do a good job. I don't reccommend it at all. (Source: used to work in a Corningware store.)

Perhaps a lined metal bottle? I had a Laken brand aluminum bottle and because it had some sort of lining, my water didn't taste funny after a while. I assume it would work well for coffee as well.

David's Tea has a glass travel mug that's leakproof.

Starbucks has a ceramic travel mug (stainless steel on the outside) but it has a lot of bad reviews.

I bet you'd find something that would work for you at a Homegoods store. They seem to have lots of random stuff that might fit the bill.

Honestly, this is the travel mug I use and it's amazing. I lived in Chicago during the coldest winter most of the midwest has seen in over twenty years. It got down to -40F and that was on a good day. With this mug, my tea that I made in the morning was too hot to drink even hours later unless I opened the bottle and let it cool down at work. And I commute by bike and train. So I'm out a lot.

I know way too much about travel beverage containers for my own good.

u/xenarthran_salesman · 5 pointsr/bicycletouring

You could take clarified butter with you. Without the milk proteins, it will last a lot longer, its way easier to cook with as the smoke point is like 450F.

You could store it in one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Cool-Gear-Silicone-Containers-Assorted/dp/B006ZTBVX0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1406293020&sr=8-6&keywords=squeezable+tubes

[The Bubba] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0186EP0JW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is what i use and its great. It has a ceramic coating on the inside and its great at keeping heat in.

Edit: The Zojirushi is the dankest of the dank at keeping coffee hot for the longest and has a lock on the cap so you can keep it in a bag and not worry on it spilling.

u/kzoostout · 4 pointsr/Homebrewing

I have two Fifty/Fiftys, a Kleen Kanteen, and and two un-insulated Stanleys. I would give the Kleen Kanteen the edge over the Fifty/Fifty just because I like the clasp top and I think the narrower opening pours a little better. I got mine on a killer deal for Amazon Prime members a while ago. I don't know if I'd shell out $50 for one.

If I could only have one growler, it would be the insulated Stanley. The handle on the Stanley makes pouring sooo much easier. I can't speak to the insulating quality of the Stanley, but I always bring my un-insulated growlers when the weather cools down.

u/mcroro · 4 pointsr/curlyhair

I just squeeze what I need into these things: https://www.amazon.com/Cool-Gear-Silicone-Containers-Assorted/dp/B006ZTBVX0. If it's a long trip, I figure I'll need to check a bag anyway and can bring full-size products.

u/poeticrubbish · 4 pointsr/tea

This mug holds heat very well (up to 5 hours) and has an infuser attachment. There is a lock feature that can definitely withstand throwing into a bag, and a button to push when you would like to take a drink (which is how it retains its heat).
It looks like it might be cheaper if you buy them separately, so here you go!

Contigo travel mugs are the best I've ever used. They're metal with a plastic lid that has a nifty auto-seal feature so its spill proof.

u/Sonny_Crockett123 · 3 pointsr/Homebrewing

I have more growlers than I can count (both 64 oz and 32 oz) so I always do that for parties, homebrew club meetings etc. I recommend getting the swing top ones that are insulated. The Stanley growlers are fantastic. You can fill it off you're keg and it will stay cold all day.

Another option is using carbonation caps to fill 1L or 2L soda bottles. If you hit it with CO2 it will stay good for at least a few weeks without opening. I drink a ton of seltzer water so I always have 1L plastic bottles around.

u/panafoot · 3 pointsr/CampingandHiking

My husband and I both love our Zojirushi thermos. They call it a "mug" because it is easy to drink out of. It keeps beverages hot for a long time. I make my morning Chai tea in it the night before and enjoy it comfortably hot about 10 hours later.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm really getting sick of my metal walled travel mug, too.

u/false_parallax · 3 pointsr/CatsandCosmetics

So, because biian's bag comment inspired me, I was thinking of some non-makeup stuff that'd I'd love to buy if, you know, I had no debts and an unlimited budget. These are things I love even though I don't have them :P

  • The The OMG tote I mentioned in my comment-on-her-comment.
  • This Rose-Gold watch from Fossil. I love Fossil; they gave good bags, but because I'm not into bags, I'd rather have one bag that can be professional if need be but fine for casual use too, hence why I'm not pining after one. That said, I FUCKING LOVE my Emory Clutch
  • I drink coffee and tea, and currently have a double-walled Tervis tumbler to bring it with me in the mornings. That's fine for one cup. My office's office is swill, so I'd prefer to bring more and keep it hot. This thermos from Zojirushi is a thing of beauty is is also apparently a boss at keeping things hot for a long time. Here are other colors!
u/jfb3 · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife
u/wgstenjuls · 3 pointsr/forestry

I have a good-quality vacuum-insulated thermos that does the trick (like this one). I keep tea or soup in mine, and it will stay hot from about 7:00 AM to about 4:00 PM in -20 degrees C. It gets colder faster the more you have it open and the emptier it gets, so if you want super hot coffee at the end of the day, you might want to make it in a moka pot or something.

u/Bleepity_Bloop · 3 pointsr/AskCulinary

My Thermos brand thermos is advertised to keep liquids hot for 12 hours and cold for 24. While I'm not going to stand 100% behind those numbers, it at least shows that the thermos keeps liquids cold longer than it keeps them hot.

100% agree with /u/GardenerSpyTailorAss that there's a reason good thermoses are more expensive. The cheap ones generally suck and don't last.

Here's the one I've been using for a few years and it still works great: https://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Stainless-Compact-Bottle-Midnight/dp/B0017IHRNC/ref=sr_1_4?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=kitchen&srs=2530615011&ie=UTF8&qid=1502196151&sr=1-4&keywords=thermos+beverage+bottles&refinements=p_89%3AThermos%2Cp_6%3AATVPDKIKX0DER

u/MsAnthropic · 3 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

> I need a lunch or bentobox that can last for 12 or so hours with up to 4 small meals (there can be multiple of 1 item)

Zojirushi insulated bento. Kleen Kanteen also has food canisters but I personally like the option of being able to microwave the lunch container if need be.

> I need a light-weight thermos, preferably one that won't sweat/condense on the outside

Insulated Kleen Kanteen.

> An ultra warm, compact jacket (would this be synthetic down? I'm not sure)

I've personally been eying North Face's Thermoball parka, but it depends how warm you really need.

> A bag to put all of this stuff in? I have a timbuk2 bag that I got on sale, but I don't expect it to be the end-all-be-all

I recommend a backpack, but I'm old and have shoulder/neck problems.

> A wallet that I can use my RFID-enabled BART card with, but that isn't 2-3" thick (I currently use a clamshell wallet that I picked up at Ace Hardware, lol)

I like keeping my commuter card on a lanyard looped to an outside strap of my bag so I don't have to dig through pockets for it -- I just yank on the lanyard to pull it out.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/Coffee

Bring a kettle and french press. I always pack a kettle, always. You can get small travel sized ones and as for french presses- I travel with a plastic/metal one, that you can then drink out of.

Like so: http://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Double-Wall-Stainless-Travel-Coffee/dp/B004AUDLRU/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1342969181&sr=8-16&keywords=french+press

I asked room service to bring me a kettle at one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. They brought me a Keurig coffee machine. I was despondent. And since that day, I've never not packed a kettle. If one of the fanciest hotel chains can't get me a kettle, I'm not taking my chances anywhere else.

u/SteakAppliedSciences · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

If you want the name brand go for one like this.

If you don't mind a Stanley version grab this one.

Edit: I have to mention, when you first buy a thermos boil a pot of water and pour it into the container, close it and wait 30 minutes. If you can feel ANY heat, return it and get another one. It should not radiate heat at all.

u/_McAngryPants_ · 3 pointsr/Portland

$23.30 if you have Amazon Prime and you don't mind your 5050 growler being white.

edit: white ones cheaper

u/ElectronHick · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Love these cups.

Ruined one too many mornings by Spilling one too many travel mugs on the floor of my truck.

These put an end to that! Thanks contigo.

Edit:Amazon.uk 2-Pack

You can probably find them locally, they are sold at Costco if you have one nearby or know someone with a membership.

They aren’t cheap but they are seriously the best cup you can get IMO. I have a total of 6-7 of them, i pick em up when they are cheap or on sale, get some as gifts because I honestly preach about these mugs all the time.

u/taegan- · 3 pointsr/ketochow

i have this 2 QT (64 oz) Stanley thermos and like it a lot. its huge so a little unwieldy and hard to clean, but keeps stuff hot or cold well with a huge capacity.
i use it for an electrolyte soup thing i drink during fasting though.

for ketochow i bring a concentrated mix of 2 or 3 servings in one blender ball container. and i have another container for my coffee.
so i drink the coffee then i pour 1/3 (if it was 3 servings) of the concentrated ketochow mix into my coffee thermos, add more water, shake it up and drink. this is easier for me than bringing 3 blender bottles (or even my giant stanley) plus coffee thermos.

if you want a ~40 oz thermos stanley has a 35 oz and 45oz. I have no experience with the one you linked. good luck

u/MNichols45 · 3 pointsr/camping

Second this comment. I bought this five years ago and it still works great to this day. I snatch it off the kitchen counter when I go camping so it's my daily French press.

u/Lurkndog · 2 pointsr/bugout

I like the 32 ounce single walled stainless steel nalgene bottle. The one with straight walls is best because it nests snugly in the GSI/Walmart steels cup. Because it is single walled, you can boil water in it with a campfire. It is also the exact right size for a single dose of water purification tablets if you don't want to boil it.

It is hard to find now, Nalgene has switched to a tapered design closer to a tall coffee cup. That one rattles around in the GSI/Walmart cup, but apparently fits snugly inside the Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Kit.

u/RschDev · 2 pointsr/solotravel

I understand, it sounds like you've taken the appropriate precautionary measures given your startup budget. I look forward to this kickstarter!

BTW, do you have full dimensions of the mug? Wondering if I could fit this into a bag I have, which can fit a breakfast burrito or a 12 oz water bottle but not this.

The stainless one here I think is dishwasher safe (not the blue one, for sure). Both lids are safe. The third picture shows you how it opens right up for better dishwasher water jet access.

This little guy has saved me a fortune over the past few months. I use it for soup, or leftover dinner from the night before. Wee bit pricey but you'll make that money back in a week!

u/RRjr · 2 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

Did that, too, but I found that frothing the juice up with a milk frother a few times and then putting it in my trusty old thermo bottle with 60° celsius water for some 4 to 8 hours creates some really damn good juice and consumes no power aside from boiling up a little water.

My ultrasonic gave up third time around. Seems like the cheaper ones aren't made to run for long stretches. It's probably why they're programmed to 3 or 5 minute cycles.

The bottle keeps water hot for a long time. Some of my juices take a little longer until they taste their best but it's no problem since you can just refill some boiling water to bring it back up to 60° (using a thermometer).

I like this method more than ultrasonic since it's so lo-tech. Just dump the juice in the bottle, close it up and go do whatever. No powergrid involved so there's nothing to worry about. I wouldn't wanna leave the house with an ultrasonic or crockpot running.

u/TuguMonas · 2 pointsr/Coffee

The same thing I experienced with this Thermos brand

Have been thinking to do this for a while because I did made a huge mess for pouring too fast, definitely gonna do it soon thanks!

Oh don't get fooled by the Camelbak Forge DIVIDE. Its plastic on the inside, thus the reduced price.

They're pretty indestructible and you can have hot food where ever you are. I used one for several years and it would keep food hot for about 6-7 hours (fill it with boiling water for 5 minutes before putting your food in). Living off takeaways and supermarket sandwiches is not healthy and gets expensive.

A very powerful, small torch is a must have and a good investment.

Get used to sleeping with earplugs in. I use Moldex Sparkplugs and found they are one of the most comfortable and cheap if you buy 100 pairs at a time.

Make sure your family are aware that you need to sleep until late afternoon on night shifts and that being woken up at 2pm is not good.

And if you really want to look after yourself, take up Karate or Krav Maga or something. Officer safety training (self defence) is a joke and will not protect you in a proper fight.

I have two of them, they are great. They drop below $25 pretty frequently. I think I got one for $18.

The Zojirushi insulated tiffin came to mind. I have one from the same brand, but not this model. The "soup bowls" it comes with will not leak. And because it's insulated, you won't need to reheat your food if you heat it in the morning. As for pickle, you could get one more very small box and keep it inside the "side bowl".

I have travel mugs from David's tea. They have have the ones that unscrew on top, or flip open. They have kept my tea and other drink hot for hours and icy cold for just as long.

I would also recommend Zojirushi tumblers (like this one), they are excellent as well, or Thermos tumblers (like this).

Just decide on what kind of design you want, flip open or screw open top, and then which size fits you better, as in 12oz or 16 oz or 20 oz. Most of them are stainless steel inside which is excellent and most tops are easy to clean.

I would recommend travel mugs from any of those brands, as me and my family have used them, and the only reason i ever get a new one, is because i want a different color or different capacity.

Ive had been using this CamelBak Insulated Mug for a couple of years now for my coffee, going strong so far.

Also have a Zojirushi Insulated mug for water that I have had for half a year, seems like excellent quality too. If I had to redo the zojirushi, I would definitely get a bigger one than a 16oz.

I really like these Stanley insulated growlers and they keep things hot/cold for 24 hours. When I've camped I usually use them to fill up with water and it's so refreshing to drink that I actually stay hydrated. Warm water in the heat is kinda gross. They're also great if you go to microbreweries. You can find some cheaper ones but this one has a nice handle and an easy open/close lid

I am a huge fan of the thermos brand double walled stainless french press. I feel you could bludgeon someone with it and then make a very satisfying cup of coffee.

I'm another big fan of Contigo mugs. I have several dedicated to tea only and I use their infusers in morning where I'm in a big rush.

I like gifts that help people "go green" because they're both practical and often something they were meaning to get anyway:

I picked up a 30oz stainless vacuum RTIC at a thrift store for $4. Had some company's logo on it.

For 64 oz all at once, your option is to drink straight from something like the 2qt Stanley thermos. https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Classic-Vacuum-Bottle-Hammertone/dp/B000FZX93U/

u/PictureofPoritrin · 1 pointr/rickandmorty

I was serious about the tea infuser.

They're life changing.

(And now you have all the fun of selling your E&Es on amazon :D)

I'm pre-cooking all of my meals for the week on Sunday. Baked chicken, pan-seared green beans, and baked sweet potato. Have one of these for water, and a (much) smaller one for coffee. Bought a five pound bag of pistachios at Costco for light snacking in between meals. And while I know it's not healthy, it's tradition - a case of Bawls.

I only managed to pull two days of vacation, though... so will only really be able to get ridiculous Tuesday and Wednesday.

u/lol_fi · 1 pointr/financialindependence

For coffee, I know bodum makes travel french presses. https://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Insulated-Plastic-0-45-Liter-15-Ounce/dp/B008LWVI6E
I have had one for years, because the office has keurig which is just gross.

You might want to consider getting one, and just packing extra beans (grind them in the morning - ok it's not the exact same as grinding them just a few seconds before but it's better than starbucks) and just pour hot water in and wait for it to brew. You will probably save $2-4 this way.

u/restless_wandererrr · 1 pointr/CasualUK

This one for food.

There are cheaper and smaller ones too, with wide mouth.

u/tuturuatu · 1 pointr/DealsReddit

Glass French presses are such a scam. Get a stainless steel vaccum insulated one. It'll keep your coffee warm for much longer and is basically break proof. Doesn't change the taste of the coffee at all.

This is what we own.

u/major_works · 1 pointr/Coffee

It's a Bubba brand thermos. Says "HR-1" on the bottom. I can't find a link, sorry. As I'd said, the liner is steel but it's coated in ceramic so that liquids don't pick up any metallic taste.

Wait... found it:

I can vouch for the Thermos Stainless King Food Flask (470ml).

My old office had a no microwave policy (they took it away after someone heated up a fish curry which stunk out the whole office floor for 3 days or something) and this was a lifesaver. I microwaved the leftovers in the morning (7-8am) and they were still really hot by lunch (12-1).

u/FatZombieMama · 1 pointr/xxfitness

Bento boxes! This is my favorite (fits a TON of food, mostly leakproof unless you really shake it up or something) but one day I want to spring for this baby.

u/Drumfool56871 · 1 pointr/tea

Hey guys. I just recently discovered this thread and thought I'd post my question instead of starting a new thread.

I recently ordered this and this. I am looking to wean myself off of coffee and have always enjoyed tea. I mostly drink green tea hence the amazon order. Does anyone have any recommendations on other/better brands?

I'm also looking to get either this addition to my Contigo mugs or just another mug for tea.

u/hewasajumperboy · 1 pointr/portlandstate

that is completely lame! Usually they're completely chill about getting something cooked for me late at night. I haven't been to PSU at 7am in about 3 years except for the odd all nighter in lab.

Like a counter top french press? I was talking about a french press travel mug (the link is for reference, i know most students don't have $140 to drop on coffee). I was partial to brewing in my dorm when I was on campus and I wish the Aeropress existed when I was still on campus.

u/mersop · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I've had a Zojirushi travel mug for over a year (slightly different model). Been very happy with it. I chuck it in my bag filled with tea on the commute to work, and it does not leak. Once I didn't drink my tea all day at work, and the following day when I went to empty it out, the liquid was still hot. Also the design is gorgeous, if you care about that.

This Bubba mug allows my coffee to cool a bit more quickly than the full stainless steel Thermos that I've used in the past. It also has the benefit of being ceramic-lined on the inside, so if you're averse to having your coffee making contact with stainless steel due to flavor changes, then that's another plus. It's also 100% leak-proof when the lid is closed. The only thing I'd be wary of is that it's a bit wider than some other mugs, so it may have an issue fitting in some car cupholders; just take a measurement ahead of time to know if it'd be a problem, though.

u/I_Submit_This · 1 pointr/mflb

i have a nice, glass 8 cup, but the one i use most is this one. i like to make a fresh cup, instead of letting 7 cups sit around, since it takes me awhile to drink the 16 ounces this one makes, and usually it's just me for most of the day.

u/mikesweeney · 1 pointr/StLouisBeer

Clearly not a brewery-issued one, but I have this one and it works great. Also only $27 from Amazon right now:

You could go with something like this or just a pot that is not a mug. You can buy some beans in the store and grind them there. Then you don't have to commit to a full bag unless you really like it.

If you want a good cup of coffee on the go, I recommend a french press plus a travel mug or a travel french press.
