This is what I use at home:
Indistinguishable from movie theater popcorn.
The popper isn't terribly cheap, but it's worth it if you make a lot of popcorn. The popper isn't really the most important part, though. The oil and salt are what makes the theater popcorn so damned good.
I am here to help!
50lb bag of popcorn!
Here and Here
I used one of these back in high school, when I ran then Sno-Cone/Popcorn stand at the local minor league baseball stadium. The popcorn is pretty damn good.

Flavacol and coconut oil will get you the closest to what you would expect to get from a machine like that. You only need a little bit of salt at a time, so that'll last you years. I like the Orville popcorn topping, but couldn't find it cheap on Amazon. Anyways, this is a good set so you don't have gallons of stuff in your house, but still get authentic movie theater taste.
I'd be interested in these volumes of write-ups about the butter.
Honestly I thought regular, straight butter was fine, but now I'm questioning this notion. I have a commercial counter-top heated butter dispenser for my backyard movie nights that has worked great, but I have to shorten the pump range to the smallest setting because too much real butter ruins the popcorn and people aren't used to this.
Also, just for the sake of an alternative to those mentioned, I buy Snappy Popcorn from Amazon. Iowa business. It's pretty good. Coconut oil. About 95% pop ratio.
That's A LOT. Get an air popper or one over the stove with some olive oil and get this:

THEN THE FUTURE IS NOW!!
Not actually kernel-less popcorn (obvi), but there is popcorn that is considered hulless. You get everything you love about popcorn without having it get stuck in your teeth or cutting your gums!

Just this and this with a little salt is all you need. Splash in a little of this with regular oil of your choice for buttery goodness.
like this?
If you hate those kernels in your teeth give mini popcorn a try. Little to no husk.
