Mike's Grand opening online sale event starts tomorrow night. Upon reviwing the deals, many people agreed that the RX 580 Nitro+ seems to be one of the better ones.
I am curretnly working on my first build, and it's coming together well but still have the more expensive parts coming up. I will be going with an RX 580/GeForce 1060. The Nitro+ seems to have one of the best performances overall, and also does well with temperatures and noise.
Now the question is, according to the link above, it will be on sale for $330 at the sale event tomorrow night. Am I missing something? Why is everyone saying it's such a great deal? The products is, but is the deal really that good? It is curretnly for $350 at [Mike's shop itself] (https://www.mikescomputershop.com/product/8382159) and [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B071QX74F9/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&psc=1).
If anything, the Pulse seems to be a better deal money and discount wise. What's the big promotion here besides $20 off? Is it a must buy for someone in my position, or is it a passable deal and I could gamble on something better in the next few weeks over those $20 off?
[Here's a link to the Amazon listing you mentioned.]
(https://www.amazon.ca/XPG-GAMMIX-512GB-Gen3x4-AGAMMIXS11P-512GT-C/dp/B07KZXJTLN/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=SX8200&qid=1565098144&s=gateway&sr=8-8asd) Much better price. Thanks!
I'd like to note a better deal for $/GB, though: The SX 8200 is pretty much an identical drive for a great price- $150/TB. This is the Amazon listing.
I'd like to note this technical info from AnandTech. These two drives use the same controller and similar NAND. They're effectively the same drive, just the SX8200 is much denser for your money.
Which of these motherboards is the best for the value for a i5-6600k build in my case? This is my first time with a k-series Intel CPU and I'd like to try some overclocking. I don't really care for the audio/video features on the boards, but do appreciate USB ports and general performance. M.2 and USB Type-C are nice but totally unnecessary for me. Motherboards are my weakness, don't really understand why one can be so much more expensive than another.
Anyway I've been looking at these 3 at the moment:
AsRock Z170A-X1, $80
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3, $108
ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming, $140
Obviously the AsRock board is pretty attractive to me due to the price, but is there a reason for me to get the more expensive boards?
Thanks!
BF will indeed be your best bet indeed since a most of those monitors are models that have been on the market for a couple of years.
This one is a classic pick for a budget 144hz 1440p monitor and often go even lower with Dell promos : https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-27-gaming-monitor-s2719dgf/apd/210-arcj/monitors-monitor-accessories
It's a TN panel tho, so it might not be the best depending on the taste of your friend. On that note, I suggest he reads up a bit on the different panel type and try to choose one that fits its needs, therefore limting your potential choices.
As a rule of thumb, TN has better response time, IPS has better colors and VA is a kind of a happy middle of the two but with some problems regarding ghosting in dark scenes (also the only ones that can be curved if I recall right). Keep in mind it's still dependent on the panel the monitor uses, but this gives you a rough idea. Pricewise it's like this TN < VA < IPS
If he's ready to extend his budget, this one would one of the best pick available and might see some discount on BF even tho it's a new model (it has already been discounted in the last couple of weeks for some reason) : https://www.amazon.ca/LG-27GL850-B-Ultragear-Compatible-Monitor/dp/B07TD94TQF/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=lg+ultragear+27&qid=1570634749&s=electronics&sr=1-1

> SSDs also have more space than you have access to for maintenance and caching (ex. Replacing data on a completely "full" SSD still works because the controller can read the bits it wants to write over, store it in the cache that's unavailable to you
Is this why I see "500" GB SSD actually only has 480GB usable capacity for me to store stuff?
So is Adata being more honest by putting down 480GB as the storage capacity rather than Samsung's 500GB? Or is the Adata drive even less at 460 GB usable capacity?
Going back to what you said about the QLC. So Quad (4x) layer cells in terms of durability < TLC < SLC?
> Most drives are T(riple)LC, the super high end ones are M(ulti aka two, because marketing)LC.
So does MLC fit in between TLC and SLC where it looks like QLC < TLC < MLC < SLC?
Thanks. I've learned a lot from you.
Don’t feel like finding the link since I’m on my phone but staples, best buy, amazon, memory express, Canada computers all have it. Unless of course you specifically need m.2.
Edit: y’all downvoting because I didn’t link or something? There’s a search bar for each of these stores, come on. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0781Z7Y3S/?tag=pcp0f-20 Here, happy?
I don't know about VA, but I think 144 hz IPS would beat a 144hz TN in picture quality and the difference for gaming would be marginal at best with a higher response time but identical refresh rates. I don't think anything below 5ms response time is noticeable, so a monitor like this acer is what you describe. I might hold out for one like that personally since I like to keep my monitors for 5 years+, and TN isn't new technology. Current ones are going on about 9 years...

Edit: cleaned up that link since it upset the mod bot. That price on that acer monitor is the lowest it's been on amazon, and it's the same at Best Buy. Might have to pick that up instead.
Morning everyone!
Every once in a while I like to come in here and ask what everyone's thinking of buying.
Nice to get an idea about things that I might be interested in grabbing or something that I should get for some peace of mind.
Earlier this week, my CyberPower UPS arrived in the mail (delivered by UPS. Coincidence? I think not!) and I can rest easy now. We've had some power surges, brownouts and blackouts recently.
With a $450ish budget I bought an AOC Agon AG271QX. Nowadays not a great value for a 27" 144Hz 1ms TN but I'm pretty happy with it, not sure what the prices are like on these. Might be worth looking out for the 144Hz 1ms IPS panels. LG's recent launch is currently sitting at $699 on Amazon.
I bought a "CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA GreenPower AVR LCD UPS System" back in March 2009 from Canada Computers for $260
Then, I bought "1 of Set of 2 - CyberPower RB1280X2A 12V 9Ah Compatible - Replacement Battery by UPS Battery Center" in October 2017 from Amazon for $83 shipped to replace the initial batteries.
The unit + replacement batteries are still going strong and have protected me from so many power issues!
Just to be the only one in the neighbourhood with working WiFi during a power outage, it's 100% worth it.
With only modem + router, I can last easily 4 hours (longer outages are rarer, or I'll just go to bed and wake up with power). With my NAS, modem and router, I'm looking at about 2 hours of video streaming during a power outage. With my desktop, monitor, nas, modem, and router, I still have between 5 and 15 minutes of uptime depending on what I'm doing.
Actually, one time I got 16gb of DDR4 ram for $80 when it was going for $150+ because the seller wasn't using an UPS like this, had burnt his computer in a thunderstorm, and was selling his parts for his new build to afford replacement parts instead. So I can say that others not having UPS devices actually made me richer ;)
These days I'm actually looking to buy a 2nd unit, but in the higher end CP1500PFCLCD version for my more sensitive devices (I have a korean UW monitor with mild flicker issues).
I highly recommend using an UPS on all your electronics and computers!
This is what I got when they were down around $130. Amazing sound clarity, and they come in open and closed-back versions. Super comfortable for longer usage, too.
I wouldn't recommend BT for gaming or watching videos, either. It's hard to control the audio latency.
I've never used this headset but from skimming through reviews I've seen some people having issues with the mic and earpads, as a general rule of thumb having your microphone separate from your headphones is the way to go because in the event of one of them having issues it's much easier to just replace one rather than having to buy a new headset.
If you have prime there's good deals on the 598 SR, Blue Yeti and AT2020USBPLUS, I haven't used these microphones but I can recommend the 598s.
Amazon (PRIME) has it for $349.99 as well
https://www.amazon.ca/Sapphire-11265-01-20G-Radeon-Backplate-Graphics/dp/B071QX74F9

How good is this card? I've been looking to get a 1060 6GB OC, but this looks as good or better for roughly the same cost?
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07LCFY3PS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_DZflDbEH7SXV0?th=1
Best deal I've seen - but it's 32" which is a bit larger than I would like. I use a 27" 144hz 1440p monitor which is the perfect size:resolution IMO.
My hard drive is on its way to dying and would love some recommendations at good (but budget friendly) SSDs. I don't really know much about them, so I'd love to be pointed in the right direction.
I'm taking a look at this specific one from Amazon. This a good deal?
Gaming headphones are a gimmick. You can have better quality headphones for the same price and buy a $10 mic to clip on it.
Probably the best value you can have regarding headphones are the Sennheiser HD598 or the HD558 depending on your budget.
1MS Response time and good brightness. Great deal tbf
Anyone have thoughts on this UPS?
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00429N19W/ref=gbmh_mob_s-3_3da4_179e402b?m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&dealid=179e402b&pf_rd_p=6a2ae07a-6047-492d-8b7d-1765bf213da4&pf_rd_s=slot-3&pf_rd_t=35801&pf_rd_i=22&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_r=BVYQKNC8W0P4ABYBSHGD
It has great reviews outside of Amazon and the specs are great, but based on other sites, it looks like the seller jacked up the price and then put it on sale so that the savings look bigger than they are.
I have a 650W PSU and an Acer X34 - will this do the job? Might throw my network peripherals on here too.
This is perfect for my LDR, thank you so much for posting this! :)
Edit: This is also the price on Amazon CA if you'd rather buy there!
First one that pops up when you type Corsair 3200.
Sure it isn't RGB, but the trade off is RGB from another tier brand vs non RGB of one of the best tier ram
https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-Vengeance-3200MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0143UM4TC/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1542201383&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=Corsair+3200&dpPl=1&dpID=410ZIrDj5cL&ref=plSrch
Holy frick that is so much cheaper than the Cyberpower one I was going to buy (two of!) from Amazon.
Thanks!
Edit: Oh, it's cheaper because, despite APC's claims of PFC compatibility, it's a stepped sinewave output. Rip. Thanks anyway!
Which additionally you can get for a pretty good price as well right now too https://www.amazon.ca/Logitech-Prodigy-Gaming-Performance-910-004796/dp/B01KUAMCV4
Looking for a SSD on BF!
I checked the best buy flyer plus another offer that was posted on this subreddit earlier, which one do you think is better?
Samsung Evo 850 EVO vs. Crucial MX300
The samsung is more expensive and has slightly less storage so im kind of confused because that was my original option, do you think I should buy the crucial one instead then?

AOPEN 31.5in 2560x1440 4ms Freesync Curved Monitor $319.99
This seems like a great deal for gaming 1440p?
$8 more bucks, and the FTW3 on "pre-order" over at amazon. I got one on preorder as well but it took like 3 weeks to ship. This used to go on sale for $960 + a game so often :(
PS - Amazon orders that are Temporarily out of stock allow you to pay now locked in at this price, and get it when its in stock. The down fall of this is there is it could end up being a very long time or canceled. I've personally never had one canceled though.
Since I've bought most of my new parts its down to this;
Do I splash out and buy the Z170 Pro Aura from NCIX: http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-z170-pro-gaming-atx-c9-135130.htm?promoid=2235
which apparantly has never been lower that 159.99 after MIR, or something much cheaper like amazons: https://www.amazon.ca/Gigabyte-2-Way-CrossFire-Motherboards-GA-Z170-HD3/dp/B012AQGKXC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1480428768&sr=1-1&keywords=z170+motherboard
I like the minor RGB on the Asus, but its not a deal breaker, and it seems to have gotten generally good reviews. I'll be using an i6600k with 16gb RAM, a Hyper Cooler EVO and and EVGA G2 550W PSU with a Gigabyte gtx 1070 if it makes a difference.
I feel like for the extra $10 it'd be worth it to go through Amazon Canada for the prime shipping and not having to deal with exchange rates.
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_KasSAb5TA9D8B
If it breaks and you bought it through Amazon UK, will Amazon Canada deal with any returns?
I'm putting this here because I don't want to flood the main sub with what I'm able to find. So here goes:

The RAM you have listed is waaaay too expensive for the speed. You can go with 16gb crucial value ram on Amazon for $103 or look for faster RAM (~3000-3200mhz) for the price you're at. Supposedly faster RAM helps with ryzen.
Edit: $103 https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00MMLUYPG/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1493304156&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=crucial+ddr4&dpPl=1&dpID=517rjqIRSPL&ref=plSrch

Actually they go on sale at the same place, picked mine up for just over a hundred on amazon.ca around Christmas. Also the big brother to these headphones, the 598s, are actually on a better sale than these.

game bundle shouldnt be included, beats a 15% ebay sale anyway & ebay wont have code either, i never looked up how much people sell their codes for
Probably this Pixio PX7 is about as cheap as it gets (you pay somewhat more for IPS vs TN), there's other brands like LG which have IPS, 1440p, 144hz, 27" but cost more too.
EDIT: I think this ASUS monitor is on par with the Pixio and ASUS is the better brand.
Go for it. These are great. Don't get closed-back it makes the sound stage sound way smaller and makes the music feel less full. Closed is only really good if you don't want to annoy people in the same room as you while you listen.
HD 558 and HD 598 are almost identical sounding but 598s are more "premium". You can decide which one you want for $50 more.

Damn thats a good deal. Unfortunately a little low on the wattage :( Anyone know of any good PSU deals at a higher wattage? i.e. 600W and up?
Edit: Ended up buying this guy for a pretty good price.
Looks like Amazon wants to get rid of the stock on the 598SE as these have been on sale twice in the last month, and usually don't go on sale that often.
It looks like there is a new SKU that came out recently, the HD 598SR, which looks like the same headphones but with an updated look to match the 598CS styling.

2 questions, Amazon rebates and a mobo
building my first build (kickstarted by that 6600k sale lol) and trying to figure out a decent motherboard
got to Gigabyte-Z170-HD3 at $134
Im buying it off amazon but i found that it has 2 MIR for february. 10 and [15] (http://www.mirhelp.com/2017/02/gigabyte-ca-cad-02012017-02152017/), pushing it to $109. But does the MIR work because im buying it off amazon?
I`m kinda hesitant because i dont really need a bunch of features on my mobo due to cost, is this okay? I only really need my mobo to have these features, overclockable, 1 HDD + 1 SDD, 2x8 16GB RAM ddr4, usb3, 2 monitors support.
Any thoughts/reviews on this mobo mobo? What is a typically a good deal for a z170 board?
It's going for $960 on Amazon right now which appears to be a record low on 3camels.
Also you've got Amazon's extended holiday return policy and the ease of Amazon returns in general going for you if the price does later drop over BF / CM.

$606 for a New GTX 1080ti is ridiculous...
Bought this full-size keyboard with Outemu Reds almost a month ago. Keys feel somewhat mushy compared to my Gateron Blacks and there is a "break-in" period (like how new shoes get molded to the shape of your feet over time) with the switches before they start to feel less mushy and more responsive but it's an okay keyboard for $63.
Just dropped to $62 CAD on https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B006JH8T3S
Pretty much the same price when accounting for currency conversion.
https://www.amazon.ca/Sennheiser-HD-598-Headphones-Accents/dp/B0042A8CW2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1499366631&sr=8-4&keywords=sennheiser
On the amazon app, they are $150. Worth it?
Good deal on a 1080TI, I ended up going with this one yesterday.
If you're in the market for a monitor and you can swing the price tag then this is the buy ATM
https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-bmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B06ZXZ3QBD/ref=lp_20706194011_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1573309182&sr=1-7
I don't know if you'll get better on BF
The 580 8GB Nitro+ will also be available for $430: https://www.amazon.ca/Sapphire-11265-01-20G-Radeon-backplate-Graphics/dp/B071QX74F9/
Is that a good price?
Or this one, not sure which is better: https://www.amazon.ca/EVGA-Modular-Warranty-Supply-210-GQ-0650-V1/dp/B017HA3SQ8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1543242195&sr=8-6&keywords=EVGA+G3
I have been looking at This
And This
But I'm not sure what the difference is and why the Asus one is $100+ more expensive. Is it just a ROG tax more or less? Or is it Actually better?
It's actually only $20 off if you look at other vendors like newegg or amazon.
Still like the look of this better:
TN 144hz, 1080p @ $150 (You will want to buy a displayport cable though)
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07JK6XMSN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What a coincidence. Was looking at this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00429N19W
Then my power shut off lol.
Depends on if you fear Amazon Warehouse Deals or not.
If you don't, you can go as low as 300$, with a bit of luck and wait. (ex. this AOC monitor for 337$)
If you do, the Samsung CG52 tends to go on sale for 380$ from time to time - worth keeping an eye for I believe the AOC AGON does too, but that is a 24" monitor as well.
Does anybody think it will go lower than this? Or should I just pick it up now. This is the exact card I’ve been waiting for.
Edit: It’s also $315 on Amazon right now.
They also mention the 2 free games promo which I didn’t see on the eBay site.
https://www.amazon.ca/Sapphire-11265-01-20G-Radeon-Backplate-Graphics/dp/B071QX74F9
Yes, this .
Just a heads up, this is the same price on Amazon and they are apparently restocking on the 10th. I ordered from there instead, Ebates and holiday return policy make it more appealing for me.
On mobile so hard to find on amazon app, but here it is a full size, rgb, red switch.
https://www.amazon.ca/Redragon-K582-Mechanical-Keyboard-Anti-ghosting/dp/B07KCRTN9Q/ red switches for $63
Drevo's Tyrfing V2 goes for $68 after a coupon though in TKL size and I think it comes in blue, red and brown. Literally searched in amazon "mechanical keyboard"
They company does make them but they seem few and far between in Canada
Here's an Amazon link with Red switches
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07KCRTN9Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_4-WWCbKDFR7MD
Edit: this is the 104 key version just to show company does make other key variants
I was gonna grab one but they told me mike's wasn't available for the stepup program
Side note: Preorder from amazon for $1108 - https://www.amazon.ca/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-GDDR5X-Technology/dp/B06Y15DWXR/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1519145913&sr=8-1&keywords=1080ti+ftw
It's possible I screwed you a bit here. Best deal on the 598s today is:
http://www.amazon.ca/Sennheiser-HD-598-Headphones-Accents/dp/B0042A8CW2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1451156752&sr=8-2&keywords=hd+598
On sale on amazon.ca as well - Logitech C920 Webcam HD Pro (960-000764) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_zK3oDbKSPX5QB
Not sure why OP showed amazon.com
Seen this posted here before CAD dropped, so I figured that it might appeal to some were I to post it. According to a price tracker for Amazon Canada, this is the cheapest it's been since last June (though the differences in pricing in recent history is off-set by the decreasing conversion rates of CAD).
I would say spend $10 more and get the evga 650w gq 80+ gold from amazon
edit: nvm they upped the price to $120
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B017HA3SQ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got it from amazon, here, when it was on sale for $41 CAD.
Amazon has pricematched this as well.

Now also same price at Amazon, prime-only. https://www.amazon.ca/Sapphire-11265-01-20G-Radeon-Backplate-Graphics/dp/B071QX74F9
$230 on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.ca/AMD-Ryzen-3600X-12-thread-processor/dp/B07SQBFN2D/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B07SQBFN2D 229 on amazon right now
Well said, also on a sidenote, this is my first post, and I'm not quite sure if the link is attached to the post, just in case here it is:
https://www.amazon.ca/Crucial-MX300-275GB-Internal-Solid/dp/B01IAGSD5O/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511324342&sr=1-3&keywords=ssd
Not worth the price hike.

Decent usb microphone worth 20$-30$ will out perform it.
Tempted with the G403 for $39.99 (despite the Hero version recently being launched).
Edit - and even then... nothing really jumps out, as per usual. Shame.
Was in the same boat. Amazon has the EVGA 650 GQ for $100.86 and by all accounts it's a very solid model.
You could stand to go much lower than a 650 though.
Something like this or this would be a better choice in my opinion.
$119.99 ADATA USA Ultimate Su800 1TB 3D Nand 2.5 Inch SATA
$94.99 Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" SATA III 500GB Internal SSD
$449.99 Garmin Fenix 5

All on sale with similar specs (from my knowledge, but different brands)

The Redragon K582 is going to be a lightning deal tomorrow. It was on sale 2 weeks ago for $50. I might grab one to try if it's on sale.
